"?uestlove Brainwashing"

I think that some of the okayplayers have been so taken in by the opinions of ?uestlove (aka Music Soulchild's older cousin who used to eat his butterscotch tastycakes and drink his strawberry quik) that they have lost their goddamned minds....see the overabundance of Jay Dee is God posts. Now I would like to know how you exert such influence and how much it it? and please inform when you begin claiming Black Thought as the best emcee so I can make sure not to check the posts for a little bit. Also please inform your worshippers that the spaceship that will transport them to a higher plane of existence is arriving soon, where they will revel in the sounds of producers that negatively affect the sound of legendary groups....and receive acclaim for producing groups with wack lyrics.

"I don't give a fuck about your keys of coke, gats that you claim you toke, lyrics that you say you wrote or even if you slit your throat." Kriminul (Jigmastas)

Yeah, Questlove is evil.

Motherfucker has me not ONLY drinking Kool-Aid, but whenever he's in town I dress up as the Kool-Aid man and follow him around. Then when someone disagrees with hi I bust through a wall, slap the dude in the mouf and scream "Oh Yeah!!!."

Interestingly enough, while I agree... I disagree too... What I have noticed is that people blindly take his opinions as law... recently he and I went back and forth on here about Prince and his influences. While I definitely agreed live he wore his influences on his sleeve, it didn't start until the Purple Rain tour with his James Brown and background band countdown thing. Before that it was just Prince. This Motherfucker tried to tell me that Prince's recordings sounded like JB and Little Richard. Again, I disagreed, he didn't start doing this until 88 moving forward, before that, while I'm sure they were there, it was still strictly Prince. I was suprised at how people took his foolish rantings as law, me being a fan of music myself, I knew he didn't know what the fuck he was talking about even with all his so-called background information. Wasn't impressed. However, he has been apart of some of the best (note I did not say greatest) recordings of the nineties and the turn of the century but I'm also slightly convinced that it was all in a effort 'to be apart' of the hottest things going, D, E. Badhu, Bilal, Com, Slum, you name it. At the same time you have to respect that. The reality? Black music is a fucking shame right now, all we have is this bullshit of people using legendary techniques in performance (biting Prince's and James' DICK!!!) and recording (Oh Jimi, where are you when we REALLY need you) into their desired affect. They will redo some corny ass lyrics (see Bilal for that) and then call it that new shit... it's one part talent, two parts gimmick (see D'Angelo for that) and ultimately the light will come through. Do You Want More, Illadelphhalflife Volume 1 was that shit, no doubt, and during that time period they were the illest live act to catch. Now? It's all bs, they could use a facelift for real! What I have also noticed is to make up for their shortcomings or lack of talent Quest issues his propoganda posts to make them legendary, bugged out ish like "D is the new Prince" (laughing over that one man), or "Bilal is this or that" (I saw the Jay Leno performance, he needs to chill with the crack cause money can sing, and is ill, but he just seems like a damn clown)... as oppossed to just allowing us to feel the real. We know fake from real, and the realist thing poppin is E. Badhu's Momma's Gun, so the question becomes who's the real genius behind these projects, Quest or James Poyser. (poyser)
Quest or JD (hmmm... Slum or the Roots, depends, recording wise, Slum every time, live? The Roots hands down, but just like all great bands their peak was 93-96... no doubt...) Peace.

You would take Slum over the Roots recording wise? Why? I want your opinion, not attacking. I just think that people on the board should be more opinionated than to simply accept someone else's theories without thought, but Im sure it feeds is ego. And we all know that the Big Momma's House Sdtrk is the real ish right now.

well, maybe I will retract cause as I mentioned Do You... and Illadelph... is good, damn good, but the best from the Roots as far as I'm concerned, however, Slum is ill... I was fortunate enough to have the original bootleg release which is ten times better than the final. It's just gritty, off the cuff, funk, the Roots get to the point sometimes where they sound contrived, or even... sloppy. The second half of Things Fall Apart, falls apart. I know it's early to count on Slum and I hope JD's solo effort isn't any indication... we'll see. Live is another story all together, can't front on the Roots, even tho they now suffer from DeLA itis, the same damn routine since 96???? What is wrong with these cats!!!

so if I am to understand your silly ass, your basically saying that Quest love is the end all, above all, answer to music? what your basically saying is beyond this little fucking website...
that's it? No great music beyond Quest? No great music beyond the Roots? Please, I would show you how to get to my higher ground, but you would lose your grip and fall to your death...

i judt don't say "BILAL IS THE SHIT SO LIVE WITH IT SUCKERS!!!!!!!"

i at least back my shit up with some sort of theory. (I AM ?UEST STUFF WAS HUMOR BEFORE YOU START)

but unlike me i would like you to explain your second half of TFA falling apart...

-love of my life
-100% dundee
-diedre vs dice (interlude)
-adrenaline
-scratch vs. ? (interlude)
-you got me
-don't see us
-return to innocence lost

that is the second half.

now with half the TFA mail i get mofo's say that "love" touches them deeply.

"100" and "adrenaline" according to "them/yall" is some hyped ass lyrical shit with riq and malik on point as always. i've not met one person mad at beans' verse either.

"you got me" well cry "pop" all you want (and it's not pop because it barely cracked top 40) we still can claim title as one of the first groups in mainstream hip hop to fuck with drum and bass. and then to up the ante, fuck with drum and bass playing it live. even bilal's drummer had to record 4 tracks on "hand me down". so we got a hit, and did something ground breaking at the same time. half of my compliments from non roots fans are "yo! that drum shit on that erykah song is off the hook!!!!!!"

i like "dont see us". i think the jawn is funky and the lyrics are on point. i've heard various opinions about this one. i dig it.

and "return" while not a gangbang classic that snuffed you earlier, is still a touching piece. (i think the music is my scariest work)

do being though this is our best period yet. can you count how many groups that made thier debut in 1993 are still here?

snoop?
jay?
kast?

to the contrary. as long as we want to make records, we will still be here. and not on some run dmc past their prime shit. i'm talking about still relevant here.

how bout them apples?

that's kinda shady...i'm not on RUN DMC, but why'd u have to throw that name out there...damn...:O besides we all know the cliche about opinions. rather than be an a-hole about anything, it is more of a learning experience to try see the other persons perspective. i've been called a great hater over the years because of my opinions on hip hop and music in general. i don't care what you think but if you can present a legitimate of somewhat logic oriented presentation of your feelings then fine. i don't have to agree with you and vice versa. for example, i have every album the Roots have put out on either vinyl or CD. i actually became interested in the group in '92 when a fellow mc i was going to college with put me d. he had a tape from WPRB when they still had the hot underground hip hop show Raw Deal. ever since i've been checking the group. i don't like the albums to the point where i listen to them everyday. there are even musical issues i have with the group production-wise. whatever. that is my opinion. i have it and i express it. why does it have to be an argument? one more thought and i'm out, b4 this becomes a book. over the years i've heard many hip hop conversations where people compare artists who really are not similar. for example, KRS and Rakim, there is almost no comparison lyrically, yet i have heard the argument. if having an opinion means being an a-hole then i'll being sh@ttin' on a lot of people..

"we still can claim title as one of the first groups in mainstream hip hop to fuck with drum and bass"

How can you even say (type) that with a straight face?

I noticed you threw in "mainstream" this time, which is the arguement you're going to use if you respond, a la "I didn't say we were the first group to do it, just the first..." So just because you threw in some speeded up drums at the end of the song (where is the bass at anyway?), that means you're responsible for exposing the "mainstream" hip hop masses to drum and bass influenced hip hop? I know you'd like very much to "have your hand on that torch", but it's not yours. When I first heard the track, I thought...okay...well at least he's trying, but the shit ALMOST sounded forced. "Sounded forced" in the sense that one day you would be just barely be able to justify making a statement such as the one above.

(where is the bass

that you hear NO bass within the last parts of "you got me".

Hub's timing along with ?uest drumming is the essence of a basic drum n bass beat. You can argue all the other points, but you honestly hear no bass?

maybe it's your little sony "my first radio" that can't play lower ends of your cd.

you would have to have a basic working definition of "drum and bass" for anyone to agree on that point. and the definition of any given music genre is pretty broad. (1) what's your definition of "drum and bass"? (2) on what authority is that definition based? (3) you realize that any strict limitations on the nature of a genre constantly evolves as time progresses, right?

not that i feel as though i need to explain myself.

but while doing that joint, indeed i was thinking about living in london the early half of the decade. listening to shit that dego would play us long before dnb became more popular. and how could i put my twist on it.

while yes "mainstream" is looked upon as something bad, we are not exactly the best kept secret anymore. so while we are still not hot 97 material like jigga, we are not exactly low profile.

now you say this "straight face" shit like we failed or something. obviously we didn't bring shit to the level that tricky, or 4hero, or goldie, or prodigy for that matter did, but i felt as though i executed the initial idea in my head which was: "what can i add to this song that in have yet to hear my peers in hip hop do?"

the jazz breakdown has been done......we tried the tired and true dub thing (jah-faking)...rock shit....name it. at that point in the summer of 1998 i have yet to hear anyone in hip hop really fuck with drum and bass (timbo would flirt, but whenever i asked him he'd had a confused look on his face "dego who?")

not tribe
not gang starr
not outkast
not epmd
not pe
not digable
not 3rd bass

i havn't heard it. and if it did come out, i wasn't aware of it.

enlighten me then. take me out of the dark please.

perhaps krs did some shit and i missed it.
or maybe rae and ghost had a hidden track on cuban links.

straight up.
straight face.

As far as 'hip hop' is concerned, if you're not checkin' for MC Conrad's with the likes of LTJ Bukem, Goldie, Grooverider, etc, nobody's fucked with it till "you got me"

BUT, I would possibly argue that "Brown Paper Bag", a Roni Size single was released February 10,1998. (beating out Things Fall Apart by two weeks) It did get 'mainstream' radio play and it had a video. (I believe MTV's AMP actually helped this video get mainstream love)

This is all null and void because I think y'all were talking about within Hip Hop. The version the radio played was without an emcee. And I would also like to show to the jury, evidence B, Brown Paper Bag did not win a grammy for hip hop duo or group. Although this (soon to be) attorney would like the record to show that she very much likes Roni Size, especially live, and is not trying to belittle his success in any way shape or form.

Much love,
Kyle

roni size dosn't count cause he is in that calliber of artist that i would consider drum and bass anyway. he is a drum and bass pioneer. matter of fact. it was a remix i did for him that got me open into doing such a thing in the first place.

i too was speaking in terms of hip hop.

perhaps the initial "whoa guy" poster thought i was trying to take credit for inventing drum and bass. sure hope people read again before they write. cause i swore i said nothing to get that response.

Actually Quest, KRS did do some shit with a guy named Goldie, a spell before Things Fall Apart was released. Goldie's from London, maybe you bumped into him while living abroad. The track was called "Digital". Let me know, I can email you a copy of the MP3 if you'd like. (we can milk this for as long as you'd like...)

Just to clear it up, IMO there hasn't been a mainstream rap act or artist that has brought drum and bass to the forefront of MAINSTREAM hip hop. Artists (The Roots, OutKast, Timberland, etc) have used elements of drum and bass, but no one has successfully created the hybrid everyone's been waiting for. I don't think mainstream hip hop is to that level yet, assuming that it ever will reach that level.

When BOB first came out, what were the first reactions to the song?

Average independent minded hip hop listener - "Oh snap, Outkast is on some drum and bass shit for the lead single off their album! Have you heard the track yet? It's off the hizzy!"

Trainspotting backpacker / anyone who hates the fact that OutKast has BROUGHT IT musically AND lyrically on all of their albums, flipping their style more successfully than the Roots ever will (or will they?-pointed finger-) - "On no, that's not drum and bass, it's just speeded up drums, which technically is not a drum and bass song. Actually, if you break down the drum patterns it's more along the lines of a booty song."

It's the second of the two responses (not that either were gospel)that stuck with me for a while and began to make me bitter towards your sometimes arrogant, elitist attitude (n.b. - I am not referring to specific posts / statements made by you, but rather the attitude that you have implanted into some of the impressionable minds that frequent these boards).

"not tribe
not gang starr
not outkast
not epmd
not pe
not digable
not 3rd bass"

What's the point here? You wanted to beat these guys to it? Who gives a shit? I thought the Roots were about making excellent music at their own pace. As was the point in my initial post, the Roots have not exposed mainstream hip hop to drum and bass, as you claimed. And they won't, because they are too afraid they will fall on their face (or will they? again - pointed finger-). And by the way, the above mentioned artists have all have made their permanent mark in hip hop. They are not worried about what they will be remembered for. Chuck D is not on his website claiming that he was the first rapper ever to expose mainstream hip hop to "political" rhymes, if you catch my drift.

There is one song that I can think of that used drum n bass. There was a remix of Choclair's song "What it takes". It's pretty hot. But the song was not mainstream and he's from Canada so the US didn't play it at all.

Okay. Anyway, this post isn't about who's the best producer. You ain't gotta show love for Jay every time out. You do enough of that on the lesson.

Well I agree that the jockridin is annoying. Jay Dee is the best producer? Have you even heard ANY beats by premo???!! I agree about D and Bilal, and that Things Fall Apart ..fell apart (I actually posted about The Roots slipping weeks ago but everybody was in disagreement). And I have to say, although Okayplayer is great when we live in this Nsync, jiggy ice, TRL, fake thug, sorry excuse for "Rhthym & Blues" WASTELAND.. some of this crap is overrated. I don't like ?uest's attitude on this site, but I guess he's just irritable since he's on tour a lot. This site seems to be "falling apart" itself, as I am seeing more and more ignorance by the people who post.

And yeah, Dilated doesn't really fit in. I think Mos, Erykah, dead prez, and others should have been OkayArtists all along too.. cause there aren't that many artists up here to be honest. I dunno about OKP anymore.. it's getting real dull and boring. I'm still gonna support this, but for now.. I think it's time to click the "X" button on this site.

Peace

I agree with some of the things you and peoke said. You got a lot of fanatics on here and they're gonna take whatever Quest says as gospel. I don't care what his credentials are or what songs he's produced. I don't agree with some of the shit he says(Jay Dee is the GOAT,all that D'angelo shit, etc). A lot of cats on here need to learn how to form their own opinions. I ain't really see people mentioning Jay Dee until Quest started hyping him up. Now he's everyone's favorite producer. You can't blame Quest for that though but there are some lemmings on here..

sometimes make me feel guilty for agreeing w/?uest. Like, is it possible for me to have my own opinions? And is it possible that those opinions agree w/his? And maybe he just posts them 1st, or posts them better than I?

But then I remember the main reason I started fucking w/these boards was b/c I found a group of ppl who shared some of my views on music. So of course it's gonna be a semi-regular thing for me to agree w/another OKP.

LIL’ KENNY

He was a down low rapper, lonely and po rapper
A wearin’ same pair of jeans, three days in a row rapper
Picked on, kicked on, every day was a test
Confidence would go down like the sun when it headed the way of the west
His main meals were food for thought, he tried to supplement these
Wit’ powdered milk, powdered eggs, and even government cheese
Never smoked cigarettes, he wasn’t into puffin’ disease
Never joined a gang, his mother told him not to be fuckin’ wit’ Gs
On average days, you’d find him up in the trees, head in the clouds
Thinkin’ about what bullshit lies ahead of him now
In a world of savages, everyone else was an antagonist
And little Kenny was too skinny to be anything other than a pacifist
Far less than ghetto fabulous, dreams comin’ to life would be miraculous
But most days would end up disastrous, ‘cuz ghetto life was hazardous
Tryin’ to dodge shootouts, but that wasn’t even the half of it
It was pitiful how he’d get ridiculed, and could nothin’ but try and laugh at it
For Kenny, the world held no logic
Findin’ the answers were like tryin’ to keep a full stomach wit’ empty pockets
Felt like he was on a plane takin’ a nosedive, and he couldn’t do a damn thing to stop it
And he really couldn’t put his faith in any prophet
When he tried to get ahead, seemed like an obstacle was always there
He had to try and collect his thoughts, sittin’ on pissy hallway stairs
Dreamin’ of things like flyin’ away on golden wings
Lil’ Kenny realized why the caged bird sings
He sang, Maybe one day I’ll be on top of the world
Tryin’ to keep focus, but it was bogus, how he never got noticed by girls
All Kenny ever wanted was a piece of the pie
But he started feelin’ like bein’ an outcast was a good reason to die
Too much rejection, and livin’ life without anyone to give direction
Kenny felt like he was a loser in the game of natural selection
‘Cuz all the world did was take, even though he had nothing to give
But they wanted him to give more, so what the fuck did Kenny have to live for
Not enough friends, too many motherfuckin’ enemies
All this shit was givin’ Kenny suicidal tendecies
But after a failed attempt, he went to the mirror and looked himself in the eye
And realized that he didn’t wanna die
He would try to learn from this lesson, that life was indeed a blessin’
Kenny was overjoyed to know he was ready for whatever was destined
He walked outside the door, where thugs were in the middle of a war
A stray bullet meant that Kenny didn’t have to think about the future anymore

Lil’ Kenny lost the game of life just tryin’ to get a little somethin’ in this crazy world

You should only feel guilty if you follow what ?uestlove says without discerning the content of his arguments. Now there is NO reason to become defensive unless you are one of those people. If you find yourself agreeing with ?uestlove and take the time to investigate what he says. I did not directly aim the post at Wally, although he is guilty of atleast one offense, there are plenty of others. And as far as how long I have been a member, I was a member in Summer of '99, didn't post much b/c I was finishing up school and now Im posting again, as if that should matter. I do not understand why people are getting so defensive, if they are confident in their own views, then so be it. As far as what DO I like, I like plenty and if you check my posts in the Lesson, I am not always hating on others.

Look man, understand that not everybody on these boards is a twenty/thirtysomething music lover fully into his/her own with well-developed, air tight opinions on shit. Some of these young heads actually look up to him as a successful musician, unofficial music 'historian' and all round music lover.

Other people just share his opinions on music, and post because of it.

I honestly don't think ?uest is laughing over the computer, rubbing his hands together at how many okayacolytes he's just brainwashed into submission. While he's probably aware of his influence (how many of you bought Slum Village because of his review, fuck the @@@1/2 from The Source said?), is it brainwashing to know a lot about one subject and then share your opinion?

Or is it brainwashing when a group of people all believe something that you don't?

Man when you're sixteen you don't know jack. So why not learn from someone you respect? Hell I'd go crazy if I was a sixteen year old on these boards chatting about music with one of my favorite artists. If he says Welcome 2 Detroit is ill and some kid buys it and thinks it's ill, does that mean he's brainwashed? If you can't at least value the opinion of someone who probably knows more about music than you, who's opinion can you value?

Obviously, when you're interested enough in an artist, you're curious as to what music they dig, what music inspires them to make the music you like. So if Prince gives out props to Jimi Hendrix and Joni Mitchell, you shouldn't be called a dick rider for being interested in Jimi Hendrix and Joni Mitchell.

All of this nonsense about brainwashing and the even more eloquent "dick-riding" is very unnerving at times.

Please, let other people's opinions be other people's opinions.

(or maybe I'll just get another big "F U BigWorm" for taking time out to reply to another "pissed off guy speaks up" thread)

BigPerm

In response to Reply # 36

Speaking for myself personally? I change my opinion, or at least contemplate changing my opinon of nearly every artist on OKP, or every artist that is talked about on OKP, because for the most part, people do a good job of making strong, convincing arguments one way or the other when they post. When someone says the Roots suck and gives me a convincing reason why, it makes me think of something that maybe I had never thought about before. Same thing when someone posts about how BT is the best MC ever, or how ?uest is the coolest guy they've ever met or whatever. I dont think its dickriding, I dont think anyone is taking a famous person's opinion as fact, I think OKP just has alot of smart cats on it, who are eloquent in expressing their opinions. Sometimes that causes disagreement, but y'all need to chill the fuck out on all this dickriding and "everyone follows
?uest like blind sheep" shit.

Bitching about how its the cool thing to like Jay Dee just 'cause ?uest says so? That isn't any better than accusing everyone of being dickriders and shit 'cause thats the cool thing to do around here.

There are some poseurs(sp?) on this site, and it ain't the one's coming up with their own posts or the ones who change their opinions because they read a convincing post by another OKP, its the ones who respond to everything with "follower", "dickrider" and ish like that.

I was not criticizing people who take another person's point into consideration and then formualte their own. I was addressing those that follow ?uestlove's simply because of his status and perceived authority. And you cannot tell me that there are not people on this board who will make the claims that he does and either not back them up with evidence or will provide the same examples as him. I made the statement in a crass way but things must be said like that sometimes to get dialogue started and obviously people have feelings on the subject. I am not attacking The Roots or ?uestlove's knowledge or anything like that, so I do not understand why people get so mad and defensive. If you know that you do not simply follow his opinions blindly then there is no reason to get upset nor respond to the post. I am commenting on those that do appear to follow him or use his opinions as buttresses for their argument, as if what he says should be used for someone else's argument.

i mean, does that affect your opinion? i mean, i can see it affecting the quality of discussion..but so is filling up an initial post with curses and extremes...basically masking what u really mean since u know immediately people are going to attack the semantics, and then u turn around and criticize them for not thinking outside the box..its a tried and true formula. if u feel someone's opinion isnt validated enough, ask for more detail and proof..it is a discussion board..if they cant...write them off as whatever you'd like them to be and ignore them on the next thread. i mean, are u ridding the world of okp dickriders? would u like to call them out? start a database of them? is this a public service announcements of sorts? well...the dead horse of this kind of post is so beaten, its mush now

i agree with this Bigworw cat so i guess that makes me a "dickrider". hehe.

anyway, 1st things 1st:

dickriding can go both ways. as a young boy when i told someone to "get off my dick" that meant to also stop fucking with me and keep my name out of there mouth. some of y'all cats act like y'all want to be put in a steel cage match with this Ahmir cat.

hollering on cat about how he ain't God all the time just makes YOU a "dickrider". that is an ol' school definition that some of you young cats might not be up on. y'all call it playa hatin', but it IS dickrider. you 'member how Dres said if he dick was on your mind and shit...well, you get it.

2nd things follow:

i don't think that Jay Dee is the GOAT. i just thought i would throw that in there.

3rd things 'cause i got a few:

people can share similar opinions w/o jocking someone. republicans and democrats do it ALL the time. when was the last time you heard someone say that so and so was a Clinton dickrider.

4th things must come also:

the whole idea of of rambling about this Ahmir cat thinking he is God seems silly. the idea of trying to break on people who share opinions is kinda weak as well. it seems as though the poster is making an attempt to position themselves in that Godlike position and dethrone this Ahmir fellow. i guess it is best to ask "what the fuck makes YOUR opinion so valid?" in short, these are ALL opinions; mine, static (sp?), poeke (sp?) and Ahmir. so why even bother. you can disagree without (clearing throat) "dickriding".

go see somebody about your issues with the boards and people sharing views. it'll help you...

one.

so little time. Why do some people spend gigantic amounts of time hatin' on others? Where is your CD? Why haven't we heard of you? ?uestlove and Co. are and have been the "GOAT" in their field, people are just not catching on.......Organix....etc...is some groundbreaking stuff. If you are too stupid to read posts and take them as God's word, then that's your problem. I just saw Roots perform @ House of Blues in Chicago and once again, I got my money's worth and my spirits lifted. There is no other band in the universe right now that can take you to church, make you shake yo azz, and hold hands with stranges like the Legendary Roots Crew. You are a hater, plain and simple.

...and probably follow. I agree wit what a lot of y'all are saying, but what you need to realize is that its pointless. Some people form their own opinions...others blindly follow mess and act like its theirs. What do you think the whole problem wit hiphop right now is? People put out stuff commercially, and the masses jus eat it up. People watch videos and start rockin clothes like the rappers got in the video...usin the same words...buyin the same jewelry...it happens all the time, and its not jus isolated to music. How you think they got suicidal cults and whatnot? All I'm sayin is that people think and say what they want...so why do you really care if people adopt someone elses opinions, its bound to happen. Quest says whats on his my mind, and madd people agree...it aint his fault. Only dumb people get "brainwashed"...let them be fools. Don't get all heated...you gonna bust an artery or something.

On the whole producer tangent. Jay Dee is nice...one of the illest right now...and he's been around for a looong time too. He's no Premier or anything...but they're different and dope in their own right.

And Go buy Cannibal Ox...its too nasty for words...and cuz I said so.

>You don't even know me... so
>fuck you

Question: Is the above quote something you would say in a face-to-face conversation? I see a lot of profanity and aggressive language in your posts and I don't think much of it is necessary to making your point. Using language like the above isn't going to further any understanding...and if you're not trying to get people to understand your point, what's the purpose of communicating? Consider choosing your words more carefully.

examples?

i think you must be misreading quest's posts. whenever i see the guy arguing with someone who i would just ignore, i think "well, he's going out of his way to keep the dialogue going" often in situations where i'd just shrug my shoulders and walk away. after all, he isn't obligated to respond to any of these posts...and when he does so, generally he does so with diplomacy. Look up a few posts where you ask somebody "so will you stop being a bitch?". I don't have any recollection of Quest using language like that towards someone on the site. That right there is an action which I find offensive...I don't think Quest has ever said anything on that level. Many of his posts are archived...please post some evidence of this "offensive" behavior.

> all I'm saying
>is we buy the records,
>we support the shows, we
>follow these cats, if it
>weren't for people like us

sure they would. they'd just have a different job.

>don't wait until your heydey is

>in the crowd like "Whassup?

Quest is actually a pretty social guy with the fans, I understand. I know he hooked me up with a concert ticket once when the venue was sold out and that guy doesn't know me from Adam.

>and if you are going to
>be a asshole, please be
>on point...

I don't know, chief. Disagreeing with Quest is one thing, but are you basically trying to say that money isn't knowledgable about music? I would have to disagree. Most of his opinions are informed, even when I disagree with them.

that's not what I'm saying... bottom line, he and I had a discussion and he got out of line... I don't mean to shatter everyone's perfect picture of the man, but he was wrong... I'm not questioning his music history background, but I shouldn't take offense when he questions mine on the heels of giving out wrong dates???(Pertains to arguments) and for the record, HE RESPONDED TO ME JUST NOW, I NEVER ASKED HIM TOO... so the argument this time started there... yeah I know he's diplomatic at times, and at times he can be a real dickhead just like anyone else... I won't give examples cause everyone else is talking about this more than I am... doesn't make sense how everyone else discusses this (haven't been on this post in weeks) yet in discussing it they will say "ah, there he goes again..."... please...

Thanks for the apology and likewise...
I have read your posts in the past and they seem like they come from a level headed individual, let's chalk that up to poor communication...
I brought that up because I have noticed how he takes the 'know it all' stance on everything. Now that he is getting called out he is trying to be a little more humble, which is all anyone ever wanted cause, his history isn't always on point (several examples of putting 'his theories' in on what 'actually' happened. Plus, instead of adding to the countless posts of hear-say, I decided only to speak and defend what I know to be true. That way, I can never be called a liar. For the record, I know you don't hate the brother for real, and neither do I, but these cats are trying to act like their this day and age's Miles Davis, Coltrane, and Prince, and believe me, they are anything but. One.

I mean c'mon, hundreds, possibly thousands of posts are posted daily, and all the times Quest's name get mentioned he doesn't respond, even when they are direct legit questions... he chose to respond this time cause he knows exactly what I'm talking about whether he wants to admitt it or not... doesn't matter to me nor do I care (just like I told him)... I'm definitely not the Quest groupie or anyone for that matter... but no... I wasn't trying to get him to speak up... he has no problems doing that for self... One!

because you said his name. people respond when they're being talked about.

one other thing you should learn is that this is an open forum, anyone can respond to anyone.

jeez that took a long time to read

and i've come to the conclusion that

if u admire someone and u express admiration
u r suckin their dick

if u r rude ignorant and unduly sensitive
u r a free thinker

well well

i guess i must be a homosexual
i have to tell my mum she'll be pissed off tho
and although i thought i was a free thinker
i can't be cos i have respect for other peoples opinions
and sometimes i even agree with what they say

i must go now and grow a fleece and practice my baa's

oh and i changed my mind about what i said about ?uests drumming on nikka costa not being that rocked out. i went away listened again (to the whole album this time not just my fav tracks) and i will readily admit i was wrong. the drumming on a couple of the tracks on nikkas joint is way more rocked out than badu's penitentiary philosophy it was the double peddle thing in that song that got me tho at least it sounded like a double pedal

by the way

anyone wanna start a pino palladino appreciation post
just a thought

now i suppose that must really make me a dick rider
i'm even trying to see if i can work with pino next time he's in the uk

not becos i think he's an amazing talent or anything
it couldn't be becos of that

it must be becos i'm a okayrider

(ya two bit twat)
