"new here, but a few observations......."

Mostly toward "qoolquest".
Ok, a brief piece of history of my work in the industry, over the past 5 years i've worked as an A&R and head of promotions for various record labels, Universal and BMG as examples, and i presently produce, most notably, tracks for Rascalz, Channel Live and Shabaam Shadeeq.
That had nothing to do with anything, but just to let ya'll know i'm not typing here as a fan, or someone working at a label, but as someone with knowledge of both sides of things.
I noticed, Quest, your use of the word "ignorant" to describe alot of the cats who challenged you, for the most part i agree alot. Asking 5 - 10$ for a concert is unheard of in Hip Hop. People don't understand that in this industry the labels KNOW Hip Hop is the most popular music in the world, therefor there's ALOT of money with the people who will come to concerts.
But back to the "letter". The entire thing was focused around The Roots going to perform at a 21 and over club, rather than an under-agers club. Alot of people missed the point, and side tracked it.
I don't see why the Roots shouldn't perform at an all-ages gig. Or any Hip hop act for that matter. In the industry we know the Hip Hop "buyers" demographic to be in the teenage years. Why should they miss out? It's a given that the promoters have "deals" with 21 clubs (and the alcohol makes alot of money for them), and generally under-ages clubs are more costly to hire. But, labels like your own, MCA/Universal put money into assuring concerts go ahead where the demographics are at their highest. It's also a given that there will be "pc people" who dance around saying "you can't say that word infront of my childs face!", and that's the main obsticle.
I hate punk, but i won't go there. The reason rock/punk acts do "cheap" shows is not because they're "do it yourself" groups or performances, it's because the music isn't selling to the level Hip hop is.
Now, the biggest problem i had, "qoolquest", was with this "established" artists shit you were trying to pull. Which is it? 6 albums or gold albums?
In both reasoning, Gangstarr was never "established" until last year. EPMD are yet to be "established", as with Brand Nubian, Kid Frost, King T, Just-Ice, Alkaholiks, M.O.P, the entire B.C.C and Beatnuts.
You're not established in industry terms until you release your first album on a major label. Eminem was not "established" until he released his album on Aftermath. Cru were not "established" until they did their thing on Def Jam.
In conclusion, i feel "qoolquest", you need to be more direct in your responses, not all of us are ignorant to the industry. And none of us need to be treated like we are. If you don't attempt to educate us, how are we gonna know? Or do you want more letters requesting your performance at underager clubs?
And, to the rest of you on this board, and others. I don't mean to be some "evil man from ruin your life land" or anything, but why are ya'll so strung up on "This group is gods gift to my life"? "qoolquest" is out for loot, like everyone in Hip hop is. He just happens to love what he does to make that loot. Standing behind him begging or standing up and stating what's on your mind, and letting the man defend himself and attempt to justify his actions and thoughts don't change him. And they shouldn't change him. Can we have an indepth discussion on issues surrounding the industry relations with "fans" without the "oooohhh i just love your group"? or the "fuck your group cause i said so" shit?
Peace.

i in no way referenced dick riders, or the opinions of others, or names people called others (other than 'ignorant'). So what the shit are you typing about?
Ignorance is not knowing something (not everything) about a certain topic. I addressed the FACT alot of people here from what i had read ARE ignorant to the workings of the industry and tours. I addressed the FACT that "qoolquest" needs to educate first, rather than continue the on-going fight he will have trying to reason with these people who feel his responses are not good enough.
I understand Broke's ideals that by shutting out an audience who appreciate and artist/artists there will be a backlash and the artist(s) must deal with that, however i do not agree with the means "qoolquest" is using to do so. Perhaps one fan isn't much to him, but then it's the entire "underage" fan base that gets discouraged.
If you do not agree with me (or anyone else), it does not make you a "dick rider" so please, do not put words into my mouth. You obviously thought you read something that was not there, judging from your post.
Until you (or anyone else) can have a debate or discussion without trying to insinuate a person was refering to him/her or you with a general-open ended statement, you're not going to achieve anything what so ever. This is the internet, need i remind you. And if i had a problem with an individual and their postings i would call them out and request that they take the time to elaborate or explain themselves, as i'm attempting to do with "qoolquest".

Yes. I bet people get upset because you said ?uestlove wants to make money.
I know so many people are going to reply to the first post with anger. How dare you even, respectfully, question something ?uestlove says or does?
People jump to his defense as if he is not a grown man and cannot defend himself. I've seen some of the older okayplayers say that is the reason they avoid this board and I have to tell you, on the outside looking in, it looks quite scary to we newbies also.
The cycle seems to be: someone disagrees with ?uestlove, people defend him as if he were their father or best friend, ?uest comes in and disses person who orginally disagreed and crowd cheers.
I've restrained myself from jumping in and disagreeing until now, because I felt like I was the only one who saw the "talking down" and accusations of ignorance that you speak of.
I'm not just talking about Seattle. It's happened before over lesser issues.
Even though your post is respectful, I'd be willing to bet that you get a great many replies defending ?uestlove before he even has a cnance to post.
I repeat: I bet people get upset because you said ?uestlove wants to make money. Rational people think: Who doesn't want to make money at their job?
But some (not all) of the people here will think that's a dis and say "he's doing it for the love!"
and the real point of your post will go unheard, for the most part.
Just know you have one person who has been standing by and agrees with you.
Let's all end this game of sticking up for people who can stick up for themselves and bring some real conversation in. I don't
>mean to be some "evil man
>from ruin your life land" or
>anything, but why are ya'll so
>strung up on "This group is
>gods gift to my life"?
>"qoolquest" is out for loot, like
>everyone in Hip hop is.
well the truth is.............well i don't wanna tell you the reason because i heard that all former promotion guys are ex drug addicts anyway. just fustrated artists, not smart enough to hold a real white color job. so no need in wasting your time, will you shoot that needle in your arms.

>He just happens to love what
>he does to make that loot.
if you must know yes i need money to survive. ut how much do you think i have samrty?

> Standing behind him begging or
>standing up and stating what's on
>your mind, and letting the man
>defend himself and attempt to justify
>his actions and thoughts don't change
>him. In response to Reply # 5

?uest although you asked JDEE...
I'm gonna butt in a give an answer, being that I've been on the promoter side of the house.
The main reason why most promoters choose 21 and over venues is because of cost.
For example The Showbox in Seattle, which is 21 and over can run you from $250 to $700, whereas DV8 or RKCNDY which are all ages can run you anywhere from $1000 to $1500. All of these venues are approximately the same size BUT, the venues owner can afford to charge you a cheaper price for the 21 and over venue because he can make his money at the bar.
Parent issues and so forth run a distant second in this issue.
**Note: The the Hard Knock Life and Bad Boy Tours played areans with just as many profanities spit in a regular performance and some of the concert goers were much younger in comparison to your average all ages concert.

I know this subject has been bitched about a lot but I know I have the right to say this so I am going to say it.
I am 20 not a teenager anymore but still cant do anything different than when I was 19 and you know what I deal with it. Now I hang out a lot with my brother and his friends who are all over 21. They take me places that I usually have to sweet talk the bouncer into getting into. If I dont get in we go somewhere else the point people is we deal with it.
To all those people under 21 your time will come soon. Just think about it like this no one turns 21 and decides let me go to a club everyone at one point could not go somewhere they really wanted to go. Its one of those things in life. Your time will come. Now Im 20 and sometimes i could revisit 10.
Siena Blaze
"I do not pretend to be a divine man, but I do believe in divine guidance, divine power, and in the fulfillment of divine prophecy. everyone has jumped on my boy Broke and said something to the effect of "Well, I'm under 21 and I live with it," or "I had to do the same thing when I WAS under 21." So, just because thats what you did means that's what he has to do? Let me answer for you...the answer is "no". Unless there is some sort of pecking order to this like "you can go to the Backstreet Boys now but you can't go see the Roots until you are 21 and are a big boy." They work directly with promoters through their own label to organize concerts.
>label's deal with records, "agents" deal
>with concerts.
>
>
>
>>It's also a given that there
>>will be "pc people" who dance
>>around saying "you can't say that
>>word infront of my childs face!",
>>and that's the main obsticle.
>>I hate punk, but i won't go
>>there. The reason rock/punk acts do
>>"cheap" shows is not because they're
>>"do it yourself" groups or performances,
>>it's because the music isn't selling
>>to the level Hip hop is.
>>
>>Now, the biggest problem i had, "qoolquest",
>>was with this "established" artists shit
>>you were trying to pull. Which
>>is it? 6 albums or gold
>>albums? In both reasoning,
>>Gangstarr was never "established" until last
>>year. EPMD are yet to
>>be "established", as with Brand Nubian,
>>Kid Frost, King T, Just-Ice, Alkaholiks,
>>M.O.P, the entire B.C.C and Beatnuts.
>> You're not established in industry
>>terms until you release your first
>>album on a major label.
>my friend you are sadly mistaken. the
>"established" thing was a footnote. a
>mere side order in a bigger
>point that i was trying to
>make. i will re-define what i
>believe this term to mean. being
>part of the roster at william
>morris talent agency (which controls 70%
>of the entertainment industry)in the department
>of music (namely hip-hop) there are
>2 different catagories: 1) artists who
>are able to sell out a
>venue between 2,500-and 5,000 seats. 2)
>and artists who don't.
>sorry but when on the phone with
>my agent and a promoter that's
>the paraphrased term we used to
>describe an act that has strong
>power on the road. however there
>are artists that are our favorites
>that can't fill that slot just
>yet.
- In that instance, your term for "established" doesn't stand, you should have used something along the lines of "popular" blah blah blah.
>in 96 prior to "the score" the
>fugees were not able to do
>the "Ready or not" tour in
>the northwest section unless the roots
>were on the bill. of course
>it was a whole new song
>once the album got in everyone's
>system.
>so at wma the idea is to
>put an established group with 2
>non established. i wasn't being condescending
>when using titles. just understand that
>the laws of relativity work strong
>in the concert stage. sure we
>can be "established" on a certain
>level. but in lauryn's eyes busta
>is more established because of his
>media exposure.
- When did i mention Lauryn's eyes? I mean, if you make a statement, back it up. Don't twist and turn words to suit the occassion.
i'm not in the
>dark. of course i know gang
>starr is etablished et al. and
>gold dosn't mean that you are
>not established. just ignore what i
>said, i'm aware what an "established
>artist is.
Point is, you typed it, why can i not address it?
>
>
>
>>Eminem was not "established" until he
>>released his album on Aftermath.
>>Cru were not "established" until they
>>did their thing on Def Jam.
>>
>>In conclusion, i feel "qoolquest", you need
>>to be more direct in your
>>responses, not all of us are
>>ignorant to the industry. And none
>>of us need to be treated
>>like we are. If you don't
>>attempt to educate us, how are
>>we gonna know?
>again money, you are concentrating on a
>footnote, a side comment. something not
>at all i was even thinkin
>would get dissected once i said
>it.......but "qoolquest" is more than capable
>of effin up specially when all
>my posts are done in between
>4am-6am.
I'm sayin though, why are you trying to attack me through your own faults? your statements are bold, as are mine. I expect retort, why don't you?
> Or do you
>>want more letters requesting your performance
>>at underager clubs?
>>And, to the rest of you on
>>this board, and others. I don't
>>mean to be some "evil man
>>from ruin your life land" or
>>anything, but why are ya'll so
>>strung up on "This group is
>>gods gift to my life"?
>>"qoolquest" is out for loot, like
>>everyone in Hip hop is.
>well the truth is.............well i don't wanna
>tell you the reason because i
>heard that all former promotion guys
>are ex drug addicts anyway. just
>fustrated artists, not smart enough to
>hold a real white color job.
>so no need in wasting your
>time, will you shoot that needle
>in your arms.
Another bold statement, i'm sure Brim and the T.S promotions crew would be interested in reading.
>
>
>>He just happens to love what
>>he does to make that loot.
>if you must know yes i need money to survive. ut how much do you think i have samrty?
Funny, cause i was justifying your stand on this whole concert thing, but if you wanna try to attack me by re-itterating what i already typed previously, but adding snide comments, so be it. you're making yourself out to look worse.
>
>> Standing behind him begging or
>>standing up and stating what's on
>>your mind, and letting the man
>>defend himself and attempt to justify
>>his actions and thoughts don't change
>>him. And they shouldn't change
>>him.
> can't be helped. i'm hopeless.
> i'm sure by this point you
>are either very shocked, or pissed
>by the previous statement. if you
>are human i hope so, so
>know you know what that shit
>feels like. the truth is, you
>do not know me, or the
>reasons behind why i do shows.
>so that statement is none too
>bright to say unless you happen
>to be in the room next.
Exactly what i typed, but to everyone else on this board, perhaps you need to stay off the drugs you're on. They're making you paranoid. As i stated previously, not everything in my post was directed at you.
>
>
> Can we have an
>>indepth discussion on issues surrounding the
>>industry relations with "fans" without the
>>"oooohhh i just love your group"?
>>or the "fuck your group cause
>>i said so" shit?
>>Peace.
>well, you seem to have all the
>answers so imma ask you since
>you say that we are esteemed
>collegues in "the industry"
- I don't know you personnally, i'm not your collegue, and personnally anyone associated with Universal/MCA needs their heads examined.
you tell
>me the reason why most promoters
>choose to do 21 shows. and
>no it's not alcohol loot either.
>i need to know. thanks.
- I already answered that question, under age clubs cost more, you know why? Sure you do, come on, think hard. It'll come. Don't strain too hard though you might pop your brain cell.

> "....start your own company??!? your parents
>don't have enough money to buy
>you a company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Rawkus records kinda proved that one wrong, huh?
It's true that I got here through listening to The Roots, but okayplayer.com is much larger than just a fansite. It's people from all over the globe interacting, it's hiphop (the way I see it).
>"qoolquest" is out for loot, like
>everyone in Hip hop is.
>He just happens to love what
>he does to make that loot.
You're out for loot,
I'm out for loot,
those children in Indonesia making sneakers for Nike are out for loot too in a certain way,
so what's your point ?
I see a difference between
a) people seeing 'money' as their primary goal and then finding a way to make lots of it,
b) and people with a certain talent, trying to see that talent rewarded. Money is not n1 in their lives, but ...
in this money-oriented society we all need some to survive, I'm just happy someone can do it in a way they're able to express themselves.
That doesn't make ?uest a better person, but noone has ever said he is. The reason why he gets props over here is cos of thousands of other small things he's done (there's too many to name), that all add up. Same story with YaYa, NewGuy, donwill, Nesta, GoldenWon and hundreds of other okayplayers. People are judged by their actions here, come off with something negative/stupid, you'll get a similar reaction.
>Standing behind him begging or
>standing up and stating what's on
>your mind, and letting the man
>defend himself and attempt to justify
>his actions and thoughts don't change
>him. And they shouldn't change
>him. Can we have an
>indepth discussion on issues surrounding the
>industry relations with "fans" without the
>"oooohhh i just love your group"?
>or the "fuck your group cause
>i said so" shit?
That is a HUGE stereotype. Like as if there's 2 opposite sides/camps. The situation you're referring to had a person coming off rude and disrespectful.
People told him in a polite manner, fact is he never really tried to understand, so there was NO in-depth discussion, and he reaped what he sowed.
See, it's real easy to start beef on these boards if you want to (cos some people might take it too serious), but then again : other people don't respect the fact that okayplayer is that important to some people. If I wasn't in love right now, or unemployed and without music as a hobby, I'd be here all the time too. I don't judge people becos of their choices, since I don't know people enough to understand.
It's much harder to keep these boards nice, humorous, touching, sincere and ill (all at the same time), but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.
Some people got a bad temper, others are more chill, that's OK. If the world is effed up, okayplayer is gonna reflect that sometimes, cos we all live in that world.
take care y'all,
krewcial
http://urgent.rug.ac.be/vinylators<;/a>
'pardon my expression, but I'm a tear shit up'-Kane
there is one thing I do have to disagree with you on. When Broke posted his statement, people didn't come back at him politely (I know he didn't come off politely too though) and that's what got this "back-and-forth" debate going. First of all it's hard for some people to reply to something disrespectful in a respectful manner. I hope we can agree on that, or at least understand it.
After all, he said 'Fuck The Roots'. You can't do much better than that
Now, some people tried to explain why The Roots don't have COMPLETE control over where they perform, in a polite way. Others were rude, because they felt it was way out of line to say 'FTR'. Both are human reactions, depending on your persona, the way we are as people.
The point is : if you get a disrespectful response, ask yourself why those people react that way (three options : a) they have a serious problem, b) you caused them to react that way by not thinking before you posted, AKA their reaction was more or less justified, or c) a mix of both).
My IMPRESSION when rereading the thread is that option a) has been the only answer to broke, he never seemed to consider possibilities b) and/or c). So he replied to the hostilities with even more hostility (which is understandable and human too), but it caused people like me to become hostile ourselves, cos there was no discussion, and the guy blaming other people for cursing him out didn't seem to take the time or effort to consider the possibility that he was partially responsible for this chaos.
Some people say that we don't really know the people on the boards. I feel it is NOT true.
We do know each other, but only through what we post here AND the way we do it.
You have to consider that when posting. If I hadn't changed my ways, I'd probably still be known as the 'Angieee stalker' today.
I changed my operating mode and now I think before I post. Not cos I'm afraid of possible reactions, but because I understand that I was acting stupid before, and that's what caused a natural reaction.
but that's just my impression,
take care,
krewcial
http://urgent.rug.ac.be/vinylators<;/a>
'pardon my expression, but I'm a tear shit up'-Kane
In response to Reply # 7

you just repeated what i had typed.
I know everyone is out for money, that's what i typed. That was to get around Quest's fans stereotypical response about "he does this for love" aswell as the people who support broke talkin about "do it for the love, not the loot".
The point of life is to find something you like doing and make it pay-off for you, Quest is doing that, The Roots are doing that.
As for the over-patriotic fan thing, it was a stereotype, that was the whole point of it. It was to provoke thoughts that "maybe we should be a little more impartial and think for a change" I'm just going on what i've read here since yesterday, and alot of posts are stupid as hell. Alot are very intelligent and have very strong points.
I was ever hopeful Quest would offer something substantial in retort to my post, but i was let down. I could care less. I can see he doesn't want to educate his "fans" on things, no disrespect to him. Perhaps as an artist he didn't want the responsibility of the things he's facing at the moment with letters such as Brokes, and posts such as Marc's.

but I think what he meant was if (now that this all has happened) Quest took the time to explain how it works, it won't happen in the future. I thought i made it clear enough, but for someone, i guess not.
It's not Quest's responsibility to educate people on anything, but if he continues to complain about "i don't need this" and wanting people to smarten up, perhaps - i feel anyway - he should show initiative and educate people so incidents like the one he had with these people out in Seattle doesn't happen, instead of his "mere side tracks" that are pure oxymorons, through his own admittance.
Thanks for re-itterating my points to that kid.

25. "Reading Comprehension"
In response to Reply # 14

I never fail to be shocked at how little people comprehend what they read on the Net...hey, folks, Quest HAS attempted to educate folks on the music biz. When quesioned about the Seattle situation, he explained it thoroughly, he also went in depth and explained the definition of an "established artist" in the world of concert promotion. Are you all blind? Also, further on the educational tip, Quest started The Lesson section of the board for educated discourse on music and it got virtually no replies (I'm as guilty here as everyone else). So, with that kind of response to attempts at intellectual discourse, what motivation does he have to continue educating folks about music and the business of music?
Peace,
Spirit
http://amphibians.iuma.com<;/a>
http://infiniteloop.iuma.com<;/a>
DC hip-hop is on the rise...
"High grade when I create beats/if I don't get signed/I'ma be the most dope bum that ever walked the streets" -
Aychell (HL, of Khemystery)
"If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck, it's probably a tool of the conspiracy" - unknown

when he threatened to punch people from Seattle? or when he decided to say "I don't have time for this"?
And about the "established artists" is bullshit. How can anyone sit there and say the likes of Alkaholiks are not established? None of their albums have reached gold (one of the pre-requisites in "qoolquest"'s mind on what an "established artist" is) and they don't have 6 albums out (the other pre-requisite he mentioned). An ESTABLISHED ARTIST IN the industry is an artist with an album out on the shelves. Don't believe me? Ask someone in the industry.

>when he threatened to punch people from
>Seattle? or when he decided to
>say "I don't have time for
>this"?
No when he explaining the booking agency view of "established artist". Because the experience you listed did not include working at a booking agency, perhaps you should have taken heed from a man who makes his living doing tours...
>And about the "established artists" is bullshit.
>How can anyone sit there and
>say the likes of Alkaholiks are
>not established?
Did you read the definition of "established" that Quest gave? The Alkoholiks cannot go anywhere in America and fill 2000-5000 seats. The Roots can. That's the difference, PERIOD. I love the Liks too, but as a promoter i would never pay the same amount, or even NEAR the same amount, for the Liks as I would for the Roots, because I understand the Roots are ESTABLISHED and are GUARANTEED to pack the house if the show is reasonably promoted (hell, I've seen em pack the house for badly promoted shows! I *never* get fliers for Roots shows at 9:30 Club, but they always pack it...).
None of their albums
>have reached gold (one of the
>pre-requisites in "qoolquest"'s mind on what
>an "established artist" is)
You really didn't thoroughly read Quest's reply, did you? I will post it again for you below...
>>being part of the roster at william morris >>talent agency (which controls 70% of the >>entertainment industry)in the department of >>music (namely hip-hop) there are 2
>>different catagories: 1) artists who are able >>to sell out a venue between 2,500-and
>>5,000 seats. 2) and artists who don't.
Quest admitted that including "gold record" as part of the criteria was incorrect and then posted the above. The Liks fall into category 2 when touring outside the West Coast or NYC. By the way, Quest meant HEADLINERS who can pull in 2500-5000 people...that means that folks see the flier with just "alkoholiks" on it (and probably a lesser known opening act) and 3000 people show up. Outside of Cali and NYC, that ain't happening for the Liks. And you say you're in the industry? You must not be paying attention...few, if any, of the Liks albums broke 150,000 in sales...they also don't tour nearly as much as the Roots (as headliners).
Also, I noticed that you don't have a profile attached to your posts. What are you, the anonymous industry poster? Hi, I'm Alan Page, video show producer, former show promoter, emcee, co-owner of a very teeny teeny tiny indie label, and all around nice guy. What's your name?
Hey while I'm at, let me address a few more of your replies to Quest...
>>but in lauryn's eyes busta
>i>s more established because of his
>>media exposure.
>- When did i mention Lauryn's eyes?
I couldn't believe you posted that. In fact, I was aghast. "In Lauryn's eyes" is a figure of speech and Quest only included it as a further example of "established artist". I am curious as to why Lauryn would think Busta has more media exposure than she does...considering she has been on the cover of many, many national magazines, while I have never seen Busta on the cover of anything non-hip-hop related (i.e. general interest magazines like Newsweek).
Peace,
Spirit
http://amphibians.iuma.com<;/a>
http://infiniteloop.iuma.com<;/a>
DC hip-hop is on the rise...

I
>*never* get fliers for Roots shows
>at 9:30 Club, but they always
>pack it...).
- What's the point in promotion then?
> None of their albums
>>have reached gold (one of the
>>pre-requisites in "qoolquest"'s mind on what
>>an "established artist" is)
>You really didn't thoroughly read Quest's reply,
>did you?
- Yes i did.
I will post it
>again for you below...
>>>being part of the roster at william morris >>talent agency (which controls 70% of the >>entertainment industry)in the department of >>music (namely hip-hop) there are 2
>>>different catagories: 1) artists who are able >>to sell out a venue between 2,500-and
>>>5,000 seats. 2) and artists who don't.
>Quest admitted that including "gold record" as
>part of the criteria was incorrect
>and then posted the above.
- after i questioned him.

The
>Liks fall into category 2 when
>touring outside the West Coast or
>NYC.
- Debatable.
By the way, Quest meant
>HEADLINERS who can pull in 2500-5000
>people...that means that folks see the
>flier with just "alkoholiks" on it
>(and probably a lesser known opening
>act) and 3000 people show up.
>Outside of Cali and NYC, that
>ain't happening for the Liks. And
>you say you're in the industry?
- Yup.

>You must not be paying attention...few,
>if any, of the Liks albums
>broke 150,000 in sales
- All have.
...they also don't
>tour nearly as much as the
>Roots (as headliners).
- Yes they do. Maybe not across the nation, but they are most definatly more world friendly than The Roots.
>Also, I noticed that you don't have
>a profile attached to your posts.
- another pre-requisite i wasn't included on?
>What are you, the anonymous industry
>poster?
- i'm JDee.
Hi, I'm Alan Page,
- Hi Alan.
video
>show producer,
- Poor you.
former show promoter,
- Lucky you.
emcee,
- I'm glad.

>co-owner of a very teeny teeny
>tiny indie label,
- Called?
and all around
>nice guy.
- By who's standards?
What's your name?
- Been told you. Oh wait, you wanna know my "history" like you told me yours? Um ok. I ran promotions outta BMG from '94 - '96 when i won a regional DMC and started producing, have done for the artists i listed previously. Founded a clothing label and artist management group (ironically called WritazBlok), specifically relating to international distribution and internet marketing/relations the same year. A&R for Universal/MCA from end of '96 to the Polygram take over.
>Hey while I'm at, let me address
>a few more of your replies
>to Quest...
- Why? they weren't addressed to you.
>>>but in lauryn's eyes busta
>>i>s more established because of his
>>>media exposure.
>>- When did i mention Lauryn's eyes?
>I couldn't believe you posted that. In
>fact, I was aghast. "In Lauryn's
>eyes" is a figure of speech
- Ha. I didn't need to know that, i knew it when i read it. The point was, i don't give a fuck about Lauryn, i'm speaking impartially. He's speaking biasedly.

>and Quest only included it as
>a further example of "established artist".
- No, he included it to split hairs betten artists and "fans" differing perceptions
>I am curious as to why
>Lauryn would think Busta has more
>media exposure than she does...considering she
>has been on the cover of
>many, many national magazines, while I
>have never seen Busta on the
>cover of anything non-hip-hop related (i.e.
>general interest magazines like Newsweek).
- Who cares? Not me. All i want is an answer to why The Roots and other MCs tend to tour in the U.S and North America at 21 clubs, but when it's international it's all-ages. Even though i've already answered the question.
>Peace,
>Spirit http://amphibians.iuma.com<;/a> http://infiniteloop.iuma.com<;/a> DC hip-hop is on
>the rise...
>"High grade when I create beats/if I
>don't get signed/I'ma be the most
>dope bum that ever walked the
>streets" - Aychell (HL, of
>Khemystery)
>"If it walks like a duck, quacks
>like a duck, and looks like
>a duck, it's probably a tool
>of the conspiracy" - unknown
- Obviously you're from D.C? no? As an artist he must face it. If he can't justify his actions, that's his problem. But when it comes to shows he has to consider more than just himself. Hence why Broke's letter was very relevant. Impartial?
Never once did i disrespect the roots. Never once was my personnal preference in Artists an issue. Who answered the questions this "qoolquest" couldn't? Me.
Who offered people insight into the Hip Hop industry when this "qoolquest" wouldn't? me.
My intentions were to start shit? Let me guess, you're another psychic who hasn't managed to get the right numbers for the lottery yet, right?
As i typed previously, being a Roots "fan" isn't a prerequisite on this site, or any site. If you wish to ban me of if you wish for me to be censored, so be it. Then the administrators of this board will be no better than eMpTy-V, B.E.T, the Radio and the government.
If you have a problem with what i type, point it out. So far you're just trying to get points you can't score with the admins of this board. you're right about 1 thing, there are 2 sides, that's why i'm impartial. That's why i said i didn't support all of Brokes issues, and that's why i stated i didn't appreciate the way "qoolquest" responded to those issues. Be real or don't be at all.

"You're blind baby, you're blind!" - Flava Flav.

I was invited here to read Broke's letter, i did so. In turn i also read the responses by people on this board, some in support, others against Broke's letter. I decided to convey Broke's question in a "nicer" way, and got no where. Instead i got 3 differing responses from the same person and a bunch of people jumping to his defense when there's still nothing to defend except his ignorance. Don't like it? too bad. It's nothing to do with personnal preference. It's to do with getting an answer to a question which is simple.

> If
>>you wish to ban me of
>>if you wish for me to
>>be censored, so be it.
>>Then the administrators of this board
>>will be no better than eMpTy-V,
>>B.E.T, the Radio and the government.
>-this is not going to happen, but
>see if anyone takes you seriously
>in the futur okaykarma.
- so far, i've posted the only serious post on the board that i can see.
>
>>If you have a problem with what
>>i type, point it out.
