I mean, someone got in his ear and finally convinced him to cut his hair off and that seemed like it was never gonna happen at one point. Surely they can talk him into releasing those vault tracks, lol. Anyway, I'd pay good money for that box set.




Since 1976

One thing I can say about Prince
Although it was unintentional (so he says), we have heard a lot of what is in those vaults from the 80's.
Aside from those teases from a few years ago, we have no clue what Stevie has locked away.

Both are MAJOR blockheads when it comes to letting that music go.

I like Stevie & Prince but to me Prince had albums I liked more even though Stevie has had way more albums cause he's been around since he was a little kid, but I've never cared for Motown's catalog so until he got older is when I started to pay attention to Stevie and after he did the "Woman In Red" album.

Prince has been making banging albums from his first to when he left Warner Brothers after that it's been kind of a rocky road cause certain albums being good some wasn't and then getting ahold of the NPG stuff that wasn't released in stores.

...it comes off as you including their entire catalogs. This poll is limted to 70s Stevie and 80s Prince. Mentioning things like 60s and 80s Stevie defeats the purpose.


Since 1976

Prince ruled the 80's even though I love 80's new wave more but I come back to him as the one person who kept together while others were one hit wonders, then you got Stevie, while in the 70's tunes I enjoy jazz & funk groups more than just his whole 70's catalog cause he was putting out a lot but half was filler more than Prince's catalog was but I understand Stevie had a lot to get out, he wasn't holding back, if he wanted to put out a few double albums, so be it but I could easily condense it down to one album.

Both are talented in their own right, I was just never big on Stevie.

But some of his experiments fall flat
or seem meandering.

Innervisions and talking book are his only perfect albums.

Music of my mind is not the most focused album in the world.

Prince has more flawless albums than stevie imo.

Dirty Mind, Purple Rain, SOTT, Parade.

1999 would be perfect if not for "fres". But that's still less duds than SITKOL.

this is timeless and fit for any time.
You gotta pull the best songs from Prince's first 5 albums to even have an album on par

just as miraculous as stevie wonder,

As we have debated on here countless times, SITKOL is an imperfect masterpiece. Sign of the Times is flawless... A rare feat for a double album.

You call an album with "It" on it flawless? "Slow Love" wasn't really that good either..and Stevie Wonder is on his 3rd leg tour for SITKOL.. decades later it came out. how many times has Prince toured for Sign of the Times?
The impact SITKOL had and still has is on another love than Sign O the times
and the quality too..
Even his biggest fan Prince knows this

Even if it were, we've also discussed here plenty of times how many of yall can't

I mean u can roll with Stevie and u wouldn't be wrong....But come on...lol....Prince's was def. in Stevie's league as a songwriter...

You can go back and forth on his "singing" and say that he wasn't as strong vocally as Stevie....But songwriting? Anyone that could go from penning a "Head" to "Little Red Corvette" to a "Manic Monday" and then knock out a "The Ballad Of Dorthy Parker" was def. running with Stevie....

U mean he didn't come up with something as "black" as "Tell Me Something Good?" All I know is Prince could go from "777-9311" to "Nasty Girl" to writing a groove for a fucking Stevie Nicks hit ("Stand Back") cranking out a bluesy church joint for Patti Labelle ("Yo Mister") and then do some poppy R&B for Tevin Campbell....He didn't need to make a "I Can't Help It" (which is fucking brilliant BTW...My favorite song on Off The Wall...Stevie was on some other shit...)....He could knock out a "Glamorous Life" for another artist and then make a "Ballad Of Dorthy Parker" for himself, which is every bit is dope as "Tell Me..." or "I Can't Help..."

U could make a greatest hits out of the man's Vault outtakes....

As a singer Stevie indeed beats P...But after that the battle is fierce and close.....I think it's a wash on songwriting....Production, I give a slight edge to Stevie because P usually dominates his aura and sound on other acts while Stevie is more subtle.....

But I'll take P's overall musicianship and prime stage show over Stevie's....

To me they are 1a/1b....U can't go wrong with either one....

But I'm giving u the side-eye for your "hate, hate, hate" Maxx impersonation....I laughed though....

I'm talking about songs written for other established artists not for the proteges. Prince has written songs for a lot of talented artists from Celine Dion to Chaka to No Doubt yet most of them didn't stick. You think if Stevie Wonder had written an entire album for Chaka it would've been as bad as what Prince did with her???
Stevie got a better track record with writing songs for established artist without even trying as often as Prince
and "I Can't help it" is better than anything Prince wrote for anyone imo

Battle fierce and close in the singing category?? You're probably in the minority here
and which music aged better Prince's or Stevie's to you?? be honest
As for songwriting.. Prince always been stuck in Prince world writing his songs. That's why a lot of his songs don't resonate with the masses... Stevie on the other hand saw the world better than Prince despite being blind and wrote songs that more people could relate and connect to. Even his former engineer thought Stevie was a messenger and said he may be the greatest songwriter of all time.

That's a though one which is why I haven't said anything about Stevie being a better musician.. but if you want to compare with each instruments...
Guitar : Prince wins easy of course
Drums : Stevie wins easy
Piano and Synth : Stevie
Bass : probably Prince but they both have different style of bass playing
even in this departement I'd go with Stevie after comparing but you can't go one way or another.. it's close
As far as live performing goes.. that's dosen't really have much to do with the topic and Prince got an advantage there because he's not blind
