Make sure you go to Franklin BBQ. Get there early (930-10am), have fun, wait in line, have a beer, make friends...and enjoy the hell out of that brisket. Get a pound - 3/4 fatty, 1/4 lean, and get a sandwich too if you want, but get that shit - DO NOT make it the first BBQ you try in the city though because it'll ruin you for life.
Best fried chicken in the city is at Max's Wine Dive. Many will tell you Lucy's, which is good, but Max's is the spot.
Hit up the Rainey St. bars for some unique experiences.
I also highly recommend canoeing on the lake down there.
