Actually, I was, but you're quite right that it wasn't via the pastor. This being a Jesuit run Catholic parish, there were a handful of priests in residence, one of whom was nominally in charge. There was a priest with whom I was very, very good friends there at the time as well, and I kind of felt as though I was deserting him when I left the parish, but I had to do what I had to do. Sadly, up until the year before the parish had been run by a different priest, who was very cool, and his immediate assistant was a priest who reminded me of Henry Fonda in one of his sweet roles...
