"So Cheetoh paid $750 in taxes the year he became pres? SMFH"

TL y'all probably DR: *Their* president is going broke, according to NYT

Started swiping but its long as hell, but this mf.....

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/09/27/us/donald-trump-taxes.html

THE PRESIDENT’S TAXES
LONG-CONCEALED RECORDS SHOW TRUMP’S CHRONIC LOSSES AND YEARS OF TAX AVOIDANCE

The Times obtained Donald Trump’s tax information extending over more than two decades, revealing struggling properties, vast write-offs, an audit battle and hundreds of millions in debt coming due.

Donald J. Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes the year he won the presidency. In his first year in the White House, he paid another $750.

He had paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years — largely because he reported losing much more money than he made.

As the president wages a re-election campaign that polls say he is in danger of losing, his finances are under stress, beset by losses and hundreds of millions of dollars in debt coming due that he has personally guaranteed. Also hanging over him is a decade-long audit battle with the Internal Revenue Service over the legitimacy of a $72.9 million tax refund that he claimed, and received, after declaring huge losses. An adverse ruling could cost him more than $100 million.

The tax returns that Mr. Trump has long fought to keep private tell a story fundamentally different from the one he has sold to the American public. His reports to the I.R.S. portray a businessman who takes in hundreds of millions of dollars a year yet racks up chronic losses that he aggressively employs to avoid paying taxes. Now, with his financial challenges mounting, the records show that he depends more and more on making money from businesses that put him in potential and often direct conflict of interest with his job as president.

The New York Times has obtained tax-return data extending over more than two decades for Mr. Trump and the hundreds of companies that make up his business organization, including detailed information from his first two years in office. It does not include his personal returns for 2018 or 2019. This article offers an overview of The Times’s findings; additional articles will be published in the coming weeks.

The returns are some of the most sought-after, and speculated-about, records in recent memory. In Mr. Trump’s nearly four years in office — and across his endlessly hyped decades in the public eye — journalists, prosecutors, opposition politicians and conspiracists have, with limited success, sought to excavate the enigmas of his finances. By their very nature, the filings will leave many questions unanswered, many questioners unfulfilled. They comprise information that Mr. Trump has disclosed to the I.R.S., not the findings of an independent financial examination. They report that Mr. Trump owns hundreds of millions of dollars in valuable assets, but they do not reveal his true wealth. Nor do they reveal any previously unreported connections to Russia.

Barr was going to take down Trump like some convoluted movie plot the next

I've never wanted someone so clearly out of touch and uninformed to by right so much...even though he was oddly a condescending asshole about it.

He went into hiding for months...probably should have just gotten a new login.

he either bout to start snitchin..or he know he safer in the hospital or both.

Former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale hospitalized following reported suicide attempt

https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/27/politics/brad-parscale-hospitalized/index.html

(CNN)President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Brad Parscale was hospitalized Sunday following reports of a suicide attempt at his Florida home, CNN has learned.

According to Fort Lauderdale Police Department Sgt. DeAnna Greenlaw, Fort Lauderdale police officers responded to Parscale's residence "in reference to an armed male attempting suicide." Officers later identified him to CNN as Bradley Parscale and said his wife had called the police.

"When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with the armed subject's wife, who advised her husband was armed and had access to multiple firearms inside the residence and was threatening to harm himself," Greenlaw told CNN in a statement. The officers determined the only person inside the home was the adult male.

Greenlaw said officers contacted Parscale, "developed a rapport, and safely negotiated for him to exit the home. The male was detained without injury and transported to Broward Health Medical Center for a Baker Act."

Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Karen Dietrich told CNN over the phone there was a concern that Parscale may harm himself, and his wife reported there were weapons in the home. The SWAT team responded and after a short time Parscale surrendered to police, Dietrich said.
"He came out and we got him some help," Dietrich said.
Parscale was demoted from his position this summer after Trump's rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Though he maintained a senior position on the campaign, he was rarely seen inside the headquarters following his demotion.

Tim Murtaugh, the Trump campaign's communications manager, told CNN in a statement, "Brad Parscale is a member of our family and we all love him. We are ready to support him and his family in any way possible."
The Baker Act is a Florida law that enables families to provide emergency mental health services and temporary detention for people impaired by mental illness, according to University of Florida Health.

Trump is not going to prison. No matter how much we want it, it isn't going to happen man. just stop.

Plenty of "career criminals" have never seen the inside of a jail cell.

And the US isn't going to put an ex Pres in jail.

You're wrong. You've been wrong. Wrong and loud. But, shockingly wrong.

Just take the Ls and stop now.

If I'm not mistaken, Leticia James already stopped Trump Org from operating as a non-profit because it was revealed they were pretty much a slush fund for the family. I could be mistaken.

with the general public or just be another fading storyline in an election where the sides are already baked in.

but it just dropped and i already see it everywhere. music message boards, ig stories, etc.

i checked my fake right wing social media accounts and there are some folks over there def calling his behavior shady/questionable (a lot of folks still defending him too obviously).

im not expecting it to be a game changer. but hopefully it can help squeeze out a few more votes against him in those battleground states like the rust belt.

He’s a fraud and he’s scheming the US tax system

He’s president and still making money through shady foreign connections

The bullet points just have to be very alarming and in caps lock and so simple that a 5 year old gets that he’s a boogeyman and a clown

Then maybe, probably not, but maybe

I read the whole piece and I think they did a great job laying out a massive body of investigative work in a clear and level-headed fashion, there’s nothing hysteric about the way its written and that makes it even more venomous imo

I've been a one W2, one tax filing guy my entire life. You always hear about how taxes can actually be a special kind of intense - my mom caught me off guard when she told me she was leaving the bookstore she'd been working at part-time on the side of her full-time teaching job for over two decades not because she didn't enjoy it anymore but because she was actually losing money keeping that job now that she was retired from teaching.

The idea that you could have more total income by working LESS is bonkers to me, but here I am reading this fucking thing like...

"Mr. Trump had paid no income taxes in 2008. But the change meant that when he filed his taxes for 2009, he could seek a refund of not just the $13.3 million he had paid in 2007, but also the combined $56.9 million paid in 2005 and 2006, when “The Apprentice” created what was likely the biggest income tax bite of his life.

The records reviewed by The Times indicate that Mr. Trump filed for the first of several tranches of his refund several weeks later, in January 2010. That set off what tax professionals refer to as a “quickie refund,” a check processed in 90 days on a tentative basis, pending an audit by the I.R.S.

His total federal income tax refund would eventually grow to $70.1 million, plus $2,733,184 in interest. He also received $21.2 million in state and local refunds, which often piggyback on federal filings.

Whether Mr. Trump gets to keep the cash, though, remains far from a sure thing."

Money is fucking pointless.

No one is trying to get his base to turn. That's a lost cause.

It also has a ceiling which he's hit.

The point is to get people who didn't vote or voted R in 2016 but are not his base.

The point is also to continue to unveil him and his family's laundry list of crimes so that they sooner or later something hits that they can't wriggle out of.

So yes, it does matter.

Fatalism and "Politics of Eternity" helplessness is not helpful

No, he literally lied about a disease that has killed 200,000 people - if anything could possibly matter it was that.

Before this news who DIDN'T know he was a criminal? Every single person - supporter or not - knew he cheated on taxes. All of them. There's no new information here.

I think he's beat in any fair fight, the issue now is the levers of power that he can use to cheat.

His job performance and policies are the issue.

Literally anyone with ANY brain KNEW he was doing this. This is old old old news.

The news about him knowing people would die from a deadly virus and choosing to do less than nothing is the issue I'd expect people to care about. I was even a little shocked.

But maybe your right? Hammer him for doing something (not paying taxes) that 50% of the country would do if given the chance - sure, that's what's going to take him down.

While I agree that his utter failure as a president and his sadistic policies are crucial...

His job performance and policies and his body count are as much of an issue to the people you mentioned above as his taxes. In short, not at all.

You think these same people you're discussing wouldn't either tacitly/actively participate in the extermination of people they feel are undesirable?

Your argument is nothing matters except for stuff that actually matters. I agree with you that with portion of the population ~30-40% percent NOTHING matters. 30% of the population is predisposed to authoritarianism which is why his ceiling is what it is and his floor is what it is.

Of that 50% number (we're going ahead and using for east) there's a significant chunk of people who want to cheat on their taxes but don't wan't other people to. Those people matter.

The point isn't to get flip people we can't. It's to get people who didn't participate last time. And if they sat out last time they weren't really paying attention and were swayed by both-sides-ism etc.

Also, if you want to talk policies a tax cheat who's only achievement was signing his enabler's tax cuts for the rich isn't a good look. Neither is the fact that person is doing everything in his power to eliminate healthcare.

It's not old old news. The tax returns are new news. They provide confirmation and they provide a way to begin a reckoning. They didn't fight tooth-and-nail (in and out of court) to hide them because they don't matter. Also, in a week that saw their Trumped up Biden Republican-led investigations fall apart actual, digestible evidence of his own criminal behavior couldn't be better timed.

If we pre-emptively say "these things don't matter" then they won't. We must make them matter. If people can make people believe that Donald Trump was sent by Jesus to stop pedophiles despite being an actual pedophile sent straight from the pits of hell, then we can make sure people whose brains and hearts aren't rotten to the core understand who he is, what he has done and what he will do if he succeeds in stealing this election.

Also, we have someone in this post in the year of our Lord 2020 asking if he's not really a billionaire so it's not like everybody 1. Has been paying attention 2. Is media-literate enough to make sense of the information they might have been paying attention to.

The fact that a quarter million of people died because of a deliberate, coordinated campaign on the part of the administration.

Also you're allowed to do whatever you want. I'm not the one telling you what you're arguing 'won't/doesn't matter' Nowhere did I argue that his financial crimes were as or more important.

Remember people could have cared when dozens of children were getting murdered in schools and the Republicans thwarted any and all efforts to stop it. Or post-9/11 when much of the foundation was raised for our current state. Or when it came out that there were concentration camps.

No, the people that died yesterday, the people that will die today and the people that will die tomorrow didn't die of his taxes they DID die because this country turned a blind eye to his criminality and were sold a bill of goods as to who and what he was. They died because he is a wanton criminal who likes to hurt people and hates consequences. That's born out in his tax records as much as it is in his willingness to let millions of Americans die.

They died because a criminal(he's a long history of both financial, political, and credibly alleged sexual crimes) was installed into the seat of highest power and given free reign. It could have been stopped. It should have been stopped long before this but now here we are.

and instead of a light bulb going off in muellers head like 'thats prolly where the crimes are' (like most seasoned investigators)...mueller went 'ok...lets stay away from there and see if theres any wrongdoing somewhere that trump isnt nearly as defensive about'.

even andrew weissman (mueller deputy) said they were too timid in a lot of areas.

Legally, because everything I've read or listened to from all sorts of "expert" talking heads seems to imply that he's not so much defrauding the IRS as he is using every loophole available to lessen his tax burden. Remains to be seen, but I think it'll be spun.

Politically, because his supporters are stupid enough to cheer him on for being a "smart businessman" (while reveling in the cognitive dissonance around the fact that these loopholes aren't equally available to them)

The debates will be lit.

In response to Reply # 0

Maybe it's just bias from how the article is written. But damn...this seems like clear good evidence for corruption. At the very least, enough is there for credible innuendo.

Tldr: Early in Trump presidency (at the encouragement of Saudi Arabia) he said Qatar (our official ally in the middle east) is financing terror. And he kept doubling down on it. Qatar was like "what? not us?"

So Qatar started working to get back on Trump's good side. They spent money on lobbyists like usual to try to influence people. But they also made a direct investment in Trump. They rented office space in Trump's building in San Fran. Annual payment to Trump ~ $140k. And didn't use it.

Shortly after, Trump and the Qataris are best buds.

We’ve just seen so many examples of what should have been HUGE scandals just not resonate at all. To the point that by the end of the week I’ve forgotten about what he did back at the beginning of the week.

The other aspect of this is how long will an issue resonate with certain people though. I was shocked this summer when so many mainstream white people (and even some conservatives that I know) were saying they now understood BLM. But that stopped resonating pretty quickly for some of those people as soon as they saw football players kneeling again. So yeah, this tax story seems to be big now, but my guess is that depending on how tonight’s debate goes, and whatever the next scandal is or the next issue 45 manufacturers, the tax thing will be mostly forgotten about by the election.

Kind of related to what Reeq mentioned above, that this seems to be a scandal that has resonated w/the general public more than the dozens of others that have come up the last 5 years.

And while that appears to be true, it doesn't mean that it will be lasting. They just haven't had enough time to develop their lies/excuses and talking points yet. But once they do, his followers and even people in the "middle" will move on, like they always do. IMO.

In response to Reply # 0

https://www.vox.com/21472063/trump-tax-returns-debts-owes-money

Trump has a tangled history with Deutsche Bank dating back to 1998. The New York Times’s David Enrich has chronicled how Trump would obtain a large loan from one arm of Deutsche, run into trouble paying back that loan, and then go to another arm of Deutsche to try and get more money. At one point he even sued the bank to try to avoid repayment; the parties ended up settling. Trump then paid his settlement obligation with a loan from yet another division of Deutsche.

There are questions about Trump properties for which he didn’t get loans

The more pertinent mystery about Trump’s money isn’t about these loans mentioned by the Times that are coming due. It’s about the properties he bought and developed without getting any financial assistance at all.

The Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold has reported that, between 2006 and 2014, Trump made a major change in the way he did business: He started dropping large amounts of cash to buy and develop certain properties, rather than relying on loans. Most notably, Trump bought and renovated a golf course in Turnberry, Scotland, for over $200 million — for which he paid entirely in cash.

The Trumps have claimed they simply had the cash on hand for this. But the New Yorker’s Adam Davidson doesn’t buy it.

“The portfolio of assets that Trump owns does not suggest that he would have so much money that he can casually spend a few hundred million on a whim,” Davidson wrote in 2018.

“There simply isn’t enough money coming into Trump’s known business to cover the massive outlay he spent on Turnberry.” Davidson has gone on to suggest that Trump’s expensive purchases like this may truly have been “on behalf of others” — that he was laundering money for some shady wealthy foreigners.

We don’t know where the hundreds of millions in cash Trump used for Turnberry and these other properties came from, and there’s no hard evidence that it was connected to money laundering. But Trump hasn’t given a convincing explanation for this, so it remains an unresolved mystery.
