In response to Reply # 0

..Lakers still holding the ring ceremony, but won't unveil the latest banner until fans are allowed back in the building.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30583287/los-angeles-lakers-unveil-title-banner-fans

LOS ANGELES -- When ABC announcer Mike Breen called the closing seconds of the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA Finals-clinching victory in October, he proclaimed, "Banner No. 17 will soon hang in the rafters."

He was right about the hanging part. What Breen didn't know was that when the Lakers open up the season Tuesday against the LA Clippers, no one will actually be able to see the banner making its new home at Staples Center.

The Lakers will have a black cloak covering the 2019-20 championship banner for opening night, with the message, "Stay tuned, Lakers family," printed in gold block letters on it.

It will stay covered until the coronavirus pandemic has subsided and fans are allowed back in the building for games.

"We won't be unveiling a banner because we want to wait for the fans on that," Lakers president of business operations Tim Harris told ESPN. "When you win a championship, the championship has a lot of quote-unquote owners. A championship belongs to the team, it belongs to the players, it belongs to the fans.

"And then the stuff that comes with a championship, the assets that come with a championship, it's kind of like the ownership group are the caretakers of the trophy. And the rings when you win a championship, those belong to the players. And the banner when you win a championship belongs to the fans. That's kind of how I look at this."

The last time Staples Center hosted a game with fans was March 10. In late November, the L.A. County Department of Public Health issued an order prohibiting all public and private gatherings of individuals not from the same household.

"We've obviously been awarded the trophy. And night we'll award the rings," Harris told ESPN. "And we want to wait, if we can, with all hope, until we have a chance to unveil the banner with the owners of the banners -- which is the fans -- there with us."

As for the black cloak, Harris explained, "It's saying, 'We're going to wait for you.'"

The ring ceremony will go on, without the normal pomp and circumstance that accompanies a championship celebration for the purple and gold.

"We started thinking, 'How are we going to do this? How are we going to pull this event off when we have no fans?' When you're doing a television show," Harris said.

"For the banner, we're missing part of that. We're missing a component to it, and that is the people who are a big part of winning this, and that's the fans. So we'll wait."

Cousins and Wall will not be available for tonight’s game as a Covid 19 precaution. Through contact tracing , both were in contact with an infected player.

I’m not sure the league shouldn’t make the Rox play if they have enough eligible players. Maybe they don’t with contact tracing? The nfl made themselves at least clear as mud when they made Denver play with no qbs. Like hey, fuck you, we have clear proof that you didn’t follow the protocol, now you have positive test, take the loss, figure it out in the future.

But I’ll go ahead and relax for a bit. This is early season nba. Most of these dude don’t gaf and they know they’re not playing for a title this year anyway.

Wow. At least they’re announcing to folks in the H that there’s absolutely no need to pay attention until Beard is gone. The Rox should ice his ass. Straight up inactive until they get him gone. Imagine if he gets hurt trying to halfass his way through a game before they can unload him onto some other team!?

The NBA is trying to one up football and baseball. Right out the gate there is a postponement.

I personally think Harden should be suspended 2 weeks or more to send a stern message to all players. House was sent home while INSIDE the bubble for allowing an unauthorized person in his room.

First offense, suspend for weeks to 1 month. Second offense, expel for the remainder of the season.

Harden is 30 years old. No excuses. He knows better.

>I’m glad that reductive ass 3>2 mindset is going away

The averages last year in the NBA:
35.7% from 3
52.4% from 2

That's 1.07 points per possession for 3s and 1.05 points per possession from 2s. And if we take easy transition 2s out of the mix, the numbers skew even harder for 3s. There's really no denying that, in a halfcourt set, a 3 is easily the most valuable shot you can take.

THAT SAID, obviously the occasional mid-ranger is important, because you have to keep defenders on their toes. It's the same reason poker players try to win hands that aren't mathematically advantageous to them from time to time-- you have to maintain some degree of variance, otherwise your execution is too predictable and you won't maximize your success.

But 3 > 2. That's a given.

... last year most teams took between ~18 and 26 5 ft to 19 ft jumpers in a game.

Like you said, small sample size, but a few teams definitely topped that by a lot so far. Boston took 36 jumpers in that range. Spurs took 31. Brooklyn and Orlando took 29.

Outside of that, most teams more or less are falling within last year's range in the very small sample size. It'll be interesting to see which trends continue and which ones fall off.

Steph, Damion Lee, Wiseman, Draymond when he gets back, and Oubre.

Wiggins gotta come off the bench.

Wiseman is better than advertised. He is already a problem. So Kerr gonna have to build around Steph and him.....but Oubre and Wiggins have to be consistent. I think Oubre can be, but Wiggins....just terrible. And keeps shooting. Then drifts.

all of his fans (who were not necessarily Warriors fans) talking shit on Bron because of his Finals losses now got to eat a giant bowl of shit 2 years in a row.

LeBron took teams like Curry is currently on to the Finals, multiple times (2007, 2018) and got them to high playoff seeds even.

They're incomparable.

I'm glad Bron got 4 (and might get 5) so this bullshit will finally end

Still got to see them against the Bucks and the Heat.

Middleton and Giannis have the height and defense to guard KD
And holiday is first team all defense on Kyrie....I gotta see what that looks like
Plus how Allen and Jordan as bigs deal with big men Lopez, Wilson and Portis shooting threes.

But they look good.

I think if one or two guys on the bench can step up as scorers we’ll be fine, but Ainge should’ve been more aggressive this off-season to replace Hayward’s production. We still got that trade exception, so let’s see what, if anything, Danny does with it.

Need Kemba to get healthy too though. Not crazy about a 2 center lineup or Teague getting a bunch of minutes.

We'd now be wondering why they can't get over the hump... maybe it's the coaching?

But the reality is they got there largely on the backs of guys in their early to mid 20's. That doesn't usually happen in the NBA unless they're named Shaq and Magic.

I think they're just entering their legit window to win now. So you can't reasonably start questioning his ability to win it all for a couple more years.

Both games...he ain’t do $hit...team getting run on, he starts getting buckets when the game looks like it’s a wrap

...and the league is hyping him for MVP...

FOH

They act like Giannis missing a FT disqualifies him or something

Obviously I don’t get to watch a lot of Mags’ games

But Luka does the same $hit vs the 6ers...complete no show

IDK, feels like he has the ability to be great

To be the player they want him to be...but I’m not seeing MVP

and let’s be honest, these numbers we’re seeing in the NBA are inflated

I expected more than padding from the odds on mvp favorite

Honestly looks like that Mavs team misses the playoffs

Nothing off the bench

Straps with knee surgery and out the first month

They could be too far behind to get in.

In response to Reply # 55

I believe he already had an ACL in OKC

but there aren't alot of players that come back from an achillies

In basketball, that is a particularly devastating injury

But to your point, a 70% KD is still a top 10 player

He looked about 90-95% so far

BKN won that bet

Let's just hope that team stays healthy

They're really fun to watch.

Those Jones fracture surgeries raised some of the same concerns

He's come back and looked great

But he's also missed alot of time

I'd say the jury is still out on great, only because you have to be great for a full season

He has absolutely looked no worse for wear so far...

...but, the gamble that BKN took was pairing him with 'Rie...

One of, possibly both will miss games

'Rie also had shoulder surgery I believe and the history of injuries, missed time, etc...

What does BKN look like with 1 champ doing the heavy lifting

What do they look like going into the offs

...still big ?s...but KD looking incredible is the story of the 1st week, no doubt.

What I've noticed across the league in the first couple of days of games...alot of these teams don't have their legs yet

May sound strange to say injuries are advantages...but both of those guys have just been training, preparing to play...

...vs guys that are coming off of the shortest off season in pro sports history

They will catch up...

from Miami, Brooklyn, LAL (more like LOL), LAC, and even Boston (though they lost).

Milwaukee needs to utilize Giannis more like Kawhi, rather than a "Super Saiyan Donkeylips". Jrue is there for a reason, let him run with the ball. Middleton is dope, though. He was basically saving that team's ass, LOL.

the best parts of New Orleans not named Zion are the Laker Bros, particularly Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart. But man, there's a lot of open space to be filled on that team for it to really be a problem. When Zion plays aggressively, the others really eat. Possible landing spot for some people who know their roles.

Miami is finesse basketball but tough bamma defense. The things that make people sneer at the Warriors, but the other things that make old head basketball fans LIKE the game. they were dominating even w/o Jimmy involved. Bam and Precious about to be a problem.

We're gonna have to see some more matchups with the league's elite, but nothing more you can say about Brooklyn. KD is back. Kyrie is Kyrie. Injury scares loom above them. But eff that. Someone out there called Caris "Just Coolin" Levert "Manu" and now that's all I can see. I think they match up not so great with the Lakers but we'll see.

Boston is suffering with offensive options not named Tatum and Brown. There's a huge void left behind by Hayward's scoring. I prefer Kemba playing guard for them than anyone else they have out there. Pritchard looks to be their "Dellavedova" for reasons less obvious. Didn't know they had Teague on their squad. Still weird to see TT in that uniform.

I'm gonna say it: Ty Lue is gonna ether everything everyone (including myself) has said about him as a head coach. The Clippers look different in so many ways. It of course depends on Paypal P to not drink the NyQuil in critical spaces. Them getting Ibaka was huge, though.

I don't think anyone is beating the Lakers once they get their team tightened up, though. Adding "Diet Rondo" is going to be a BOON because of the spacing he will provide. Gasol may not move as quickly as Javale but he he is going to offer more when it comes time to throw down. Trez is going to be nice. KCP is damn near my favorite Laker not named LeBron, that guy is nice both ways on the ball. It's refreshing to see that defense.

Wanna catch a Suns game whenever they're televised outside of League Pass. Them and OKC.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

Philly is 2-0

He went 17/5 with 2 blocks. With curry and Embid ,green and Simmons

They make for a nice squad.

In response to Reply # 78

From 537 a couple years ago (still true, though):

“Possession by possession, there are a few defenders who are as bad as Wiggins. When Wiggins contests a shot, opponents have a 56.1 effective field goal percentage; when they are unguarded, they have a 56.4 eFG percentage. Fundamentally, getting a shot up against Andrew Wiggins is the same as getting an open shot.”

Down 30 points again. This is what happens when you don’t keep at least one good perimeter defender. Let Dunn and Harrison walk.

because they keep letting randos go off from 3 and they don't do so hot against elite big men. Blake Griffin had EIGHT goddamn 3s tonight.

BUT.... the Cavs won, in double OT.

SexLand about to be the new hot backcourt if this keeps up. Garland had 12 assists tonight. man's playing with confidence on both sides of the court and the passing... makes the miss on SGA moot now.

Sexton had some key defensive stops tonight (they put him on Rose) and of course scores to keep the OT going. Ended with about 30, I think.

Cedi is a much better player off the bench than he is starting. Okoro impacting even without scoring.

the ass whooping will come, but if they still got this energy in 2 months I'm with it.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

I expect them to lose after this. But we'll see. I don't think they match up well against the Sixers even though they stole one from them last season. Seth Curry is finally the kind of scoring upgrade that was absent after the trades Philly made last season.

In a season where Blake Griffin is out here making 8 threes in a game, and Tristan Thompson shot so many last season, Ben just needs to get over what it is, and start taking those shots. Once they do, Philly will SOAR. He has to know this.

That's the little monkey on the back. Looking forward to the game.

Shake busted the LAC a$$ last year

Maxey has absolutely been the story of the 6ers’ season so far

We’ve struggled with guard heavy/small guard lineups

It’s another box for Doc to check

I don’t understand the unwillingness to adjust the starting lineup based on matchups

We went big, compounding the issue...and went home

I hope Doc gives the bench, specifically Max/Shake BIG minutes.

This is what I was referring to IRT Doc

There were so many issues with the team last year

There’s only so much you can address with roster and staff changes

There’s just fundamental, foundational problems

The road Ls
The TOs
Guys looking lost on offense
Guys looking lost on defense
Load management
Etc...

Some heavy lifting he and Morey signed up for

Looked promising vs the NYK

...so let me add 1 more to the list...inconsistency...

I’m confident we’ll get it right by season’s end...but that was f’n painful to have to relive last night.

See this is why people dislike lakers fans.

When y’all got smoked..it was like well it’s first game of the season. They are a lot of new pieces, etc. even though y’all main stars played.

Who talks shit after getting their asses whooped by the team who they are talking shit about ,and early in the season?

They lost by 7. You must have stopped watching after first quarter? 7 is not the same as 30.

Sixers, Clippers, Bucks. ...

These guys weren’t up for playing today. Sixers will be okay, and they don’t need the Harden headache. They look solid.

Way too early for the panic button

Plus this was a back to back for the Sixers.

more confidence in his shot, and especially his court vision and passing is well above average. All of the things that we were sold on with that 5th pick are showing up big now. and there's still time.

He had 12 assists in the win against Detroit, scores in the 20s often (only 14 last night).

Most importantly, he can play alongside Sexton for long stretches which is NICE.

No cap, this is the best I've felt going into a Cavs season since 2003 and I know they're not making the playoffs.

It's the wholly unselfish basketball, and people learning to play their roles.

There were 5 Cavs in double digits scoring last night, was a blowout at the half, and never lost the lead. Garbage time was early in the 4th.

This after Kevin Love left the game.

Drummond just completely defeated Dwight, LOL

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

With no AD - 6 guys were in double figures last night, and Caruso with 8, MicKinnie with 8, KCP with 8. They've got horses. THT is emerging at warp speed.

Bron hasn't even broken a sweat yet. This is exactly the type of season you need to provide a cushion around Bron & AD and let these young horses take the burden of the mileage while performing/developing at a high rate.

Last night you saw why they coveted Gasol. Fit in seamlessly in two-man ball w/ Bron and makes great decisions as a point-center.

Dennis & Trez can keep the show going at a high clip even when Bron & AD both sit. Only thing they are missing is another big. If this team could've retained Dwight they'd be ridiculously complete.

I do think if there was a way to keep Dwight in there especially because JaVale is also gone (thanks, Lakers) it would have been nice, but Gasol/AD isn't a bad duo to have.

KCP is probably my favorite non-Bron, non-AD Laker. Dude got so much energy on both sides of the ball. Caruso is sneaking up behind him for the same reasons.

Something about this team just feels better than all the other LeBron Finals teams. And THT looks like it's gonna be another Laker hit?

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

Definitely. The lack of size/athleticism at the rim is pretty glaring in the absence of Dwight/JaVale. I like Gasol's game, but he's pretty much anchored to the ground at this point of his career. They miss Dwight's athleticism and size at the rim.

>KCP is probably my favorite non-Bron, non-AD Laker. Dude got

KCP was an absolute monster in the playoffs and Finals. He was the 3rd most consistent player last year - exceeding all expectations. Dude is a really, really effective two-way 3 & D guy with boundless energy.

>Something about this team just feels better than all the other
>LeBron Finals teams. And THT looks like it's gonna be another
>Laker hit?

Even in Miami with those dynamic teams - they were more top-heavy. Same in Cleveland (the 2nd stint). Bron never has had this kind of luxury to be able to rest and pace himself while the 2nd unit stays at par with other teams - and at this point in Bron's career - it's critical that he can pick his spots. I like how they are managing his minutes right now - and they can do that w/ this kind of depth.

THT seems to be evolving in real-time. Every time I see him he looks more and more confident. Him and Caruso provide so much energy/hustle in the 2nd unit - matched with Trez it's really the best bench Bron has ever had.

YEP I'm still mad that he's not doing this in a Lakers uni.

NOPE that doesn't change anything about the trade. Had to happen if AD was available, we don't win the chip last year without AD, etc, so if you're going to chime in on that bullshit, run along.

I'm glad the Pels got a worthy piece to rebuild around. Zion and BI are going to work out well as a combo.

It's too early to project them though, with the sheer number of established teams out west.

My guess is They'll get some seasoning this year, make the playoffs, and get knocked out early.

But next year, barring injuries? They're going to be a problem.

I think they would if they played faster, but Van Gundy isn't a run and gun coach.

He has some intriguing pieces and BI is looking more decisive....something is off and its not Lonzo.

best thing about that team besides Lonzo is the Laker Bros... especially BI, and that might be because of their familiarity with one another.

but like you said, something is off. There's a bit of a "Zion, Do Stuff" angle to this team, and the Laker Bros (Hart, BI) gotta clean it up.

Losing Kris Dunn will hurt later in the season, but right now, I think this is a dangerous team if they can play halfway decent defense because they are going to get open looks and they can shoot.

Not gonna lie, might do some dumb shit and take a L to the Knicks, but the foundation of "good basketball" is there. no one is being a hero unless they need to be. still think this team needs a tall dude to put the team on their back before I really start talking playoffs.

Sexton refuses to be sorry. The rest of the team is following suit.

..game basically came down to the wire, but the Lakers strangely finished the game with Bron putting up 2 bricks to close out the game.

Gary Trent Jr's 28 pts off the bench was the spark Portland needed to get over the hump.

LA played this too loose. This isn't the kind of effort you want to see heading into a 4 game road trip.

im sure Bron told him to go out there and stretch his legs but on P&Rs he's going to quick. and i'd like to see the ball move more before he runs a 40 yd dash to the rim. not because of him really, cause he's hitting a lot of these but i feel like it takes the rest of the team out of their pace at times.

Turnover after turnover after turnover, and just jacking up shots. My Bulls are bad, but this Washington team is atrocious.

You’ve been in the league for 13 seasons and you still can’t protect the ball?
Avg 6 TO a game. Rookies protect the ball better than him.

Russell is this era’s Allen Iverson...he makes your team worse. Where is he going to go after it fails in Washington?

Not on the same team obviously, but I had a similar thought watching the 1st week of games

Deandre Ayton is dumb
How are you the guy that gets caught in an NCAA pay to play investigation?
Both of these dummies can’t stay out of foul trouble
Ayton compromises his team more, but I also wouldn’t expect this lack of discipline and awareness from a #1 pick
Dude, just be big
All the reaching and being out of position will end your career

ask Alex Len...dumber
Seeing TOR for the first time last night...and they are a small lineup
Baynes isn’t exactly great at avoiding fouls as a starter
At backup Len literally can’t stay on the floor...not all of his fault when the team commits 28 fouls
But he also has absolutely no offense...outside of dunker position
How you still relying on dunks after so many years in the league?

Hawks vs Nets

Blazers vs Clips.

Hawks got a lot of fire power, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they beat the nets.

No Spencer could hurt their rotation.

Kawhi is a game time decision...so I’m not calling anything until the final lineup is up.

I would say the Hawks could the be second best team in the East. They might be the deepest team in the league

Nets are trying to close out and catch up, but the Hawks are answering the questions about whether they can defend. This is a contrast from the Doug Moe-ish vs. Don Nelson free for all that took place earlier this week.

We know they can score. Outside of Trae Young, their team is a bunch of long limbed mickey fickeys that can all shoot. (Can I also add that I fucking refuse to say, 'score the ball' <---can we leave that and Booger McFarland in 2020???).

Anyway, this team is a bad matchup for the Nets. Now I am curious to see how they fare against Boston, Milwaukee and Miami. I think they shoot better than Orlando, Indiana and Philly....but Philly's perimeter d will be an issue. Other than that, they are looking like a breakout squad this year.

in my lifetime of fandom which stretches over 30 years.

Booker has been mediocre so far, Paul has been able to play fewer minutes at age 35, Ayton has been great defensively but is not being relied on for heavy offense, still win anyway

The supporting cast has been incredible so far. Bridges continues to get better and is one hell of a defender

Payne, Crowder. Galloway, Cam Johnson proving to be a great draft pick

Some good passes to Steph, but Curry had one or two guys draped on him on every shot. And he was almost always driving into traffic.

And flambe-ing Paschall is an... interesting choice. He's a second-round pick who performed pretty well on an injury-ridden team last season. During his second season, they're just expecting him to be a good bench player.

Not having access to facilities due to shut downs while they were out.

Being forced stay in, so not doing normal activities.

These guys recently just finished a season and were forced
to come back during the holidays with a short preseason.

Just look at how Harden reported to training camp. It’s going to take about
about a good two months for players to get into NBA game shape. It’s a slow build up or they will injury themselves.

Some not all. They are not all in the same cities or states, so they are not all under the same restrictions.

Just look at the NFL with the 49iners, due to their state shut down orders they couldn’t even use their own facilities ...I think the cardinals were in the same situation as well...and the 49iners had tons of injuries too.

NBA was rushed back too soon, bottom line ...so it’s going take a few weeks for these guys to get into shape. And some of the players aren’t even going hard yet because they just got back.

That’s why you are seeing so many blowouts

This shouldn’t even be a question.

I haven't heard anything about basketball activities being shut down. Wasn't Klay playing with other pros in LA like they normally do in the off-season? I think each player approached the off-season differently. Luka being a younger guy probably didn't take things too seriously and probably celebrated a little too long overseas

Dude. This is a pandemic.

You got teams playing who haven’t played since last March. And you got teams who just recently played in the bubble, who were locked down in a facility for 3 months. And they were forced to come back during the holidays.

And then you got guys like KAT who have been personally affected by Covid. He lost his mother, Nurkic lost his grandmother.

So there are going to be unusual scores and performances to guys get their legs under them.

Like I said, there should be no questions. These are not regular circumstances.

in order to play Herro and Robinson at the same time you have to put 3 plus defenders on the floor with them. You obviously have Bam & Jimmy, Crowder was that 3rd guy. He could slide between bigs and wings. They tried to replace him with Moe Harkless and that didn't work out out and they were forced to put soon to be 37-year old Andre Iguodala in the starting lineup. We'll see how long that lasts.

In response to Reply # 0

I don’t understand their roster or lineup

I guess Zeller is hurt...but they don’t have another C on the roster

LaMelo should be the starting PG

Rozier and Graham as starters...c’mon son

I know the league is moving toward positionless roles

...but that’s usually the result of having unique talents...

CHA doesn’t start a C or a PG...and they dress like 10 forwards

Mitch shoulda retired.

When you haven’t made the offs in 5 years, that’s a reasonable goal on the road to success

I just don’t see it

They should be letting LaMelo start at PG, get the experience this year

and move some of these redundant players for better fits

I expect that team will be blown up before next year.

Fuck all that, 'its early' shit...by this point in the season we are usually already in full on implosion mode. so I'ma enjoy this run.

I'm concerned about the big minutes for Randle and RJ...if he doesn't settle on a way to keep them around 32-34 minutes a game, that eventually is going to pose a problems. Other than that, if this holds, this is going to be an exciting spring.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

back to back vs the clips later this week. should be interesting.

i like this back to back scheduling. seems like it makes the games more personal. somebody talks shit to you in the first game, or goes off? run that back.

Players obviously liked traveling less in the bubble, plus having NBA teams set up shop for a full weekend in cities ought to help stabilize hospitality industries in small/medium ways.

And that's before you get to that interpersonal drama that makes the playoffs so fun. Half of what made Steph's 62 so special was that it happened two nights after the Blazers blew 'em out even worse and Lillard talked shit.

I honestly wonder why it was never seriously considered before.

Do that back to back with Mil v Lakers when lebron is out and you just missed giants vs lebron for the whole year.

Plus reducing travel and wear and tear on players has never been an nba concern until load management.

The avg fan is probably more interested in varied matchups in a week then watching the same matchups in a non elim ik n as tion setting imo

Dishing out to cats on the three point line ain’t the same like a Kidd or magic pass. And long rebounds to the perimeter from those 3 point shots...make those stats somewhat overrated.

Efficiency is a better gauge.

I find Jokic, to me, to be the better player. Right now dude is 23/11/12 , shooting 43 percent from 3 and leading the league in assists.

Russ averaged a triple double for 3 years straight

...on very, very similar shooting percentages...

Some decided Russ was padding, his stats were inflated by a historic increase in ppg league wide, and dubbed him WestBrick

While Luka is the consensus MVP to start the season and the next Bron, Magic and/or Bird

You can see how that’s different...right...?

Luka’s a great player

But they doing too much crowning dude before he’s won a playoff series, IMO.

I know it's going to be different...and it has nothing to do with numbers

Russ had a handful of all-star appearances, a scoring title and a finals appearance

...before winning MVP...

and even in that year, he averaged a triple double to do it

8 years in the league

Luka's a great player, but as you said, 1 year...1...of performing at a level...very, very similar to Russ TODAY...and he's the consensus pre-season MVP candidate

AGAIN, their numbers, TODAY, right now, January 7th 2021, are damn near identical...but Russ is a dumb stat padding brick layer

What am i wrong about? That's a fact lol.

ITs safe to reason, assume, hope that Luka will improve in the next 5 years or so because that's what happens with the majority of players.
If he doesn't, he should get the same criticism that Westbrook gets.

We criticizing a dude that's putting up 30 9, and 9 on a WINNING team and he hasn't even hit his prime?

Got the dads of both Marv and Fox being like, "trade him now".

Ayton finally gonna get himself a bottle of DayQuil
Luka is Luka
Trae is Trae
SGA is SGA
Collin gonna make y'all mad

tf happened with Marv? It can't just be "Kings suck lol" because Fox and some others are actually good.

288. "A couple things:"
In response to Reply # 276

1. Bad health in your early development years in the NBA nearly always holds a kid back, especially a big man whose game was largely rooted in athleticism, who still needs to learn some things. He’s only played 82 NBA games *total.* In two years and change. Like... that sucks.

2. While this isn’t exactly “Kings lol,” it’s worth noting just how much time so far the Kings have devoted to playing Marvin at the 4. He is not a 4. He’s a dreadful 4 for many reasons (defense in particular). I know he can make some 3s now and again, but if he’s not down low at both ends, and he’s not playing the 5, he’ll never maximize his potential. So as long as the Kings keep pairing him with a “true big” who stays down low, and as long as they encourage him to face the basket and play more of the 4, I just... don’t see it happening there.

3. This is conjecture, but related to point #2, if his dad is in his ear about playing the 4 and working on his perimeter game, and/or his camp thinks he should be something different than he is, that would... not be good. At all.

He’s still 21, and he’s basically only played one NBA season. His career averages are 14 and 8, so there’s plenty to work with. He’s not as big a difference maker as the guards and ball handlers of his class because it’s a perimeter oriented league, and because he can’t stay on the court, and because for whatever reason, he’s playing a position he’s not suited to play in the NBA imo.

If you told me he turned it around and became an All-Star, would I be surprised? No. If you told me he ended up bouncing around between several teams doing like 11/6 for the next decade, would I be surprised? No. He’s gotta stay on the court and commit to playing the 5.

He was already getting 20 mins a game, and showing his class.
And he has the green light to shoot. Off the bench he was 8/5/4.

Numbers should go up to about 13/7/8 or more.

His shot selection has already been dicey, and now the light's gonna be super green? Oh boy.

Should probably be good for his long term development, but Clifford's strength has always been his defensive coaching, not his offense. So who knows, really.

Thibs has got me believing.

IQ had a bad game, and Randle started the game 1-10, ended up with 30.

Payton had 22 and was balling. Mitch only had 2 fouls in 41 minutes vs

Gobert and Derrick Favors.

Beautiful progress.

He may have felt the league didn't need to play tonight. I know Marcus Morris on the Clippers mentioned as much.

He could have been more professional and communicative with Nash but I imagine it's a valid reason. He hasn't missed many games because of 'personal issues' to my knowledge, so likely it was a one-off.

after Seth Curry tested positive for Covid. They learned about the
positive test towards the end of tonight’s BB game against the Nets. He
was inactive for the game but was on the bench.

Per the contact tracing protocol, I think they have to quarantine for 7 days.
I’m not sure how this affects the Nets.

played TOUGH.

kerr sat oubre and wiseman down the stretch.

i like wiggins progression with this team.

they were throwing 2 or 3 ppl at steph every damn possession. through the first half he was passing and watching brick after brick go up.

then the bench dudes started knocking down 3s.

glad i watched this game.

dubs what 4 or 5-0 when steph is over 30 pts.

that's what it's gonna take.

cool thing is they are missing mad opportunities b/c they don't know how to play with him yet. if he passes the ball or you get it on an offensive rebound he's running through the baseline and around the screen looking to get it back on a handoff. cats in the 1st half were just shooting or doing something done. once they figure out how to play with it they'll realize it leads to easier buckets for them.

Rosters are way to small to deal with an onslaught of Covid cases. You would think G league players would be on call or something.

They need a bubble more than any other league.

I think Silver has said as such but I could be misremembering. They already got a TON of shit for being able to test players before the tests were widely available. They obviously want the players to be safe but need to tread carefully too.

to the point that states are just telling them to give out the doses to whoever wants them.

half or more of medical workers in some hospitals are refusing to get them.

i dont think the public will care at this point.

Yeah, he still takes shitty shots, can't shoot, work-in-progress on D, etc... the dude has court vision you simply can't teach. And for his height? Yeah. Probably shoulda been the #1 pick.

We all know he can pass and rebound. All of that was known. No one dislikes him.
Everyone viewed him as being the best of the Ball brothers.

But that shot is trash...that is where the issue is. And he has to correct it.

Really impressed with their games.

Sixers IMO, when they got their whole team.... they almost have me reaching for the Kool-Aid, right now.

I would like to thank the Los Angeles Lakers for sending the Cavs Larry Nance, Jr. It came at the cost of Clarkson, but it was destined that he ended up on his team. This dude is like a high-energy Donkeylips whose shooting form doesn't look like ass.

Speaking of Donkeylips.
No coincidence Steph not looking like some shit with him back in the line up. He'll need to not look like some shit, because Oubre is an expensive paper weight upon that team, and Wiggins gonna Wigg.
