"Wisdom Sharing ...."

If you ALL would be so kind ... would you share ... (as thoughts arise) -- but would you share any wisdom that either has been shared with you ... by family, friends, or outside sources -- whether funny or serious.

My grandma used to always tell me: "Keep yo dress down/and yo pannies ^UP^" --

I'll be back with more later ... but ... okay ... YOUR TURN! --

I can relate to ^that^ -- cuz I just moved to another job/department because I was in a "comfort zone" too lone which kept me stagnant and un~challenged.

I think benjamin franklin coined those in the first Farmer's almanac...which is not to say that he invented those sayings....it's just to say that they've been around a long time!

You got ^that^ right -- and watch em' closely! ... cuz the LOUD ones will always call attention to themselves, but them quiet ones be doing "sneaky" stuff while you're lookin' the other way --

>even a clock that is broken is right two times a day

I had a co-worker with a broken *ROLEX* watch that his dad gave him ... (Dad told him he could have it if he got it fixed...but he never did)

... consequently, he still wore that damn watch every day, just to look pimpin' ... and he said the same thing about his watch: "At least it's right twice a day"! -- *chuckles*

But uhhhh ... we would like to know about the other 22 hours too, huh? --

Yaknow ... as self explanatory as ^this^ is ... some folks don't seem to get it! --

They learn ...... and then they hoard their information ... afraid that somebody will be more valuable than them ... so they don't share.

They wanna be the "subject matter experts" on EVERYTHING ... whether on the job, in schools, or wherever?!?!?

But then ... teaching doesn't have to be a long, drawn-out "Lesson Plan" -- it can just be sharing knowledge casually.

And you know what they say:

Give a man a fish ... and he'll eat for a day.

TEACH a man to fish ... and he'll eat for a lifetime --

Considering that I've had the same 160z container of salt for the last three years, and it's still 25% full is saying something...wonder how long it would take for two people to go through a bag of salt?

My sayings aren't classics like a lotta people are sharing, but they are little bits of wisdom, mostly to do with things my dad taught me on how to be a man.

"Someone thats truly hard will never try to prove it. Especially with family, friends, and the ones he loves. Those people, if you're lucky, will never even know."

"Its not the job you have that defines who you are; its the job you do."

"If its worth fighting for, its worth getting your ass kicked for. If you don't have a good enough reason to step up and fight even if you know you're going to lose, you don't have a good enough reason to fight at all."

and

"It isn't worth killing for if it isn't worth dying for."

There were many others but those are the ones I try to remember every day.

"What is done in love always takes place beyond good and evil." -- Nietzsche

Wisdom comes on many levels / in many spectrums .... your dad shared prisms of light that kept you on the right path -- ~OR~ -- if for some reason, you got OFF that path ... there was always (((LIGHT))) to help you get back on again --

Thanx for sharing your light ...

You don't see that around much anymore ...

Or "hear" about it either, for that matter ...

....but I'm sure we could ALL use some subliminal moleskin to heal our hurts from the lumps & bumps of LIFE --

I found ^that^ while looking for your quote: "Who can't hear gon' feel" -- but it didn't really explain the saying ...

Never~the~less ... I realize it ain't "Rocket Science" ... and it made me think of the deaf -- They may not be able to audibly HEAR, but they can FEEL the vibrations and hence, they can also DANCE to the music --

~OR~

One may not be able to hear the crying or wailing of grief ... yet they can empathically feel the hurt, pain and/or disappointment of another's trauma.

*Good Word*

In response to Reply # 48

I stand corrected ...

'Preciate the correct translation, cuz sometimes a play on words can create a whole new interpretation.

See ...

When I think of hearing (or lack of) ... I think of a deaf person.
But when I think of listening (or lack of) ... I think of a person giving their undivided attention OR a distracted person not paying attention or listening to what the speaker is tryna say.

Your translation makes sense with the word: LISTENING -- *YeP*

saw this and it's been a while ...

i come from an old, irish Catholic tradition, and this is one of the classic pearls of wisdom that has been passed down to me.
it's about moving on from past relationships (romantic, friendship, professional, etc.)... it goes like this:

"when Jesus sent his disciples out into the world, he told them to spread the Gospel to all. But he told the disciples that if they came to a town that didn't accept them, that they were to pass through the town, and shake the dust of the town from their sandals and continue on." Sometimes, past relationships are the dust on your sandals, and you just gotta shake them off and keep on moving.

After a night out, my boss recently told me

"If you can't run with the big dogs lay on the porch with the pups."

I know it just means if you can't hang get the fuck out the way, but it really got me thinking, and also made me realize that once upon a time we were all pups. Sometimes you gotta recognize your limitations and keep yourself from biting off more than you can chew- with a family, a promotion, material possessions, whatever -cause if you're not ready for it, it'll kick your ass.

Just like waking up drunk on a work day.
