"I have racial/racism/race/inequality burnout. "
Thu May-06-21 01:57 PM by double negative

I'm done.

I'm done with being shocked about these white people or what Tucker Carlson said...because I know these people will not change.

I'm done with hot takes on Twitter.

I'm done with excellent breakdowns of socical/historic inequality.

I'm done with "The Problem with America is...." books written by our beloved contemporary intellects.

I'm done with giving a shit about the shocking thing these black grifters have said today, or yesterday.

I'm done with trying hard to give a shit about racial sensitivity training at places of work.

I'm done with corporate acknowledgement of racism and a promise to "do better, we promise you guys"

I'm done with the endless headlines of "police fataly shoot black..."

I'm done with the endless headlines of "person harrases black people for existing"

I'm done with "the problem with you negroes"negroes

I'm done with thinking "how can anyone on earth really believe...." after reading the millionth ignorant anti-black statement

I'm done with the culture war.

I'm done with discussions of "black people, what WE NEED TO BE DOING RIGHT NOW IS...."

I'm done with the depressing statistics of medical treatment, mental health, suicide, poverty, incarceration, debt

I'm done with a history of kneecapped attempts of self-reliance and agency. Tulsa, Soul City, Willmington Insurrection, Freedman's savings bank, etc

I'm done with zero sum thinking - "we can't just go giving black people something, that would mean I WOULDNT have anything"

I'm done with these black people who experience racism but then say "America! not a racist place"

I'm done with the black story in cinema, television, books, art, having to coexist with or be defined by racism and white supremacy.

I'm done with the modern trick of racism where it's fucking EVER-EE-WHERE and it smells like pig shit but the second you walk into place and state "hey ya'll, why it smell like pig shit in here" everyone around will say "Well of course it does, if you're only looking for things that smell like pig shit, you're gonna smell pig shit. It doesn't smell like anything to me brother". JUST FUCKING SAY THAT SHIT.

I'm done with people having absolute meltdowns for being called racist. Grow the fuck up and learn how to do better. A child can learn to get it the fuck together when you call them selfish, why can't they?

I want most of America to have a fucking seat.

On one side, I'm just depressed at how hard people cling to this shit. And for what? I said to my wife a few weeks ago, that I get how amazing racism is if you benefit from it (however small and nearly invisible). It's like the perfect weapon that destroys everything including the person using it. The colonized and the colonizer suffer. MOTHERFUCKERS ARE WILLING TO DIE FOR WHITENESS. What does any of that get you?

On the other side....I don't want to hear a goddamn thing about how we can change the world until we're truly talking about seizing power in the name of true agency and true self reliance.

All moves to change things, to improve this world are to only introduce incremental change. We haven't asked for anything yet that has made people say "whoa whoa whoa....hold on now, we can't do that, but we can hire a few of ya'll to make it look like something is happening".

The only thing that mitigates it for me is being involved in organizing. I just find it healing to work with people who know this country is racist af and are working to bring change.

And that's pretty cool. She's in a brand newly created role and kind of sort of working alone (collaboration with the organization, but a team of one right now and mostly working from home), so I get to be the sounding board pretty much daily.

And When I say local I don't even mean your city but your block.

Like it can be really depressing to try and change the world an it all seem unchangeable but it can be really rewarding to make a huge impact on like, a couple of kids lives.

I'm on chats and people want to argue the virtue of socialism versus capitalism and it just feels like people getting riled up and arguing over the weather. That argument ain't going to change it so what's the point of it. You would have a hard time trying to get me to argue about abstract issues or ideologies when we can talk about solving real world local problems.

And you nailed it right here. Even just seeing the impact you and your neighbors' hard work has on like a few people's lives is better than, as you said, basically screaming into the wind all the time.

A Zen master says to his pupils: "If you say this stick is real, I will beat you. If you say this stick is not real, I will beat you. If you say nothing, I will beat you." There seems to be no way out. One pupil, however, found a solution by changing the level of communication. He walked up to the teacher, grabbed the stick, and broke it.

Seriously, I have no idea who is running things but these media companies love racism. In my little world, I don't discuss racism much. It comes to play with white coworkers who I avoid at all costs and my kid's school. But I have compartmentalized that aspect of life.

This weird racism thing that humans do just can't sustain the planet. We need each other and the next generation is about to leave these conversations behind. More people are race mixing and one day everyone will have the same look and no one will be able to be racist. It might be boring but at least people won't be so divisive.

maybe. but, I am thinking this is a human problem. we're simultaneously wired to work together and to be so deeply shitty to each other. if it's not racism, it's some other shit. that said, american racism is really on some other shit. It makes it so you dehumanize other people while destroying your own humanity in the process. No one wins.

I think a big thing is you have to stop consuming major media news completely. TV, print, online. That shit is created to alarm, discomfort and drive interactions. not inform.

I've always tried to reduce the noise on my Twitter/IG so it's not a big effort to maintain that for me. Pruning it down for the first time was tedious

and beyond that, stop arguing about Black/race issues w/ people you know are either idiots, or intellectually dishonest. there is nothing to be gained there I promise you.

If people believe some wild ass shit, let them. The rednecks at work used to hit us w/ the wildest conspiracy theories about Obama/Floyd/BLM/Covid/Trump/etc. Shit that you wouldnt take seriously even in a movie. Our warehouse dude used to get mad and argue them down until he was all worked up and ready to throw hands. I'd figuratively pull up a chair and be like "tell me more". I want to see how truly ignorant, racist and uninformed you are. If you truly believe this shit then no amount of facts/logic/evidence I give you will change your mind.

beyond that I just stay real busy w/ hobbies, coaching and shit. I don't have time for a lot of this stuff anyway.

BUT, this shit is clockwork.

My wife tells me once a month: oh didja hear about the shooting?

every two weeks: oh didja hear what the GOP did?

once a week: so a racist/sexist thing happened...didja hear about it?

I'm just feeling cold as ice. As in, things need to become extremely cut and dry.

No more lip service. No, "see but change takes time". No more thin bandages on the massive wound. No more paper towels on the ocean.

You said essentially I'm tired of racism. When someone does enough for me to get involved or active I'll care until then I'm over it

And that is the reason we still where we are after 400 yrs.

Today we are exhausted after full integration. Slavery is over. Crack has been dismantled. Police still killing people but at least now everyone knows etc

Red summer was just a little over 100 yrs ago. Tulsa was burned to the ground...just a little over a 100 yrs ago. Lynching was an epidemic. Segregation was in full swing. The Klan was active everywhere. Etc

You get to be..."tired" because your ancestors...could not be.

How fortunate

on sabbatical.

does it really matter?

wonder what bin's doing?

This reads to me like the poster is longing for the “good ole days” where he could be with his White and otherwise non-Black friends and was playing hacky sack in the park and didn’t have to think about how fucked up things were for Black ppl.

Yeah we’re all tired, most of us who have been in predominantly Black spaces all our lives been seeing fucked up shit and been angry and burnt out by it. Welcome to the real world, let’s take it head on tho.

You are making a jump in logic.

How do I speak to your own life experiences so that you may understand my ideas without there being some jump to creating an imagined view of my inner world?

Do you know personally know me?

Do you know where I am from?

Do you know what I have experienced in life?

You do not.

23. "Nah, my man is tired of the performance showiness of modern activism"
In response to Reply # 20

What he is describing is mostly media activism. The tweets, the ad campaigns, the performance of activism.

Some where along the way we have come to accepting that posting and tweeting is a form of activism. 95% of the time it is not.

Its gotten to the point where I often see a form of criticism where the major critique is the fact people aren't tweeting or posting on a subject "the silence of X about (insert the latest outrage) is deafening". Like there is pressure for everyone to put out a press release on any given topic as a form of activism.

You can tell its all not real and virtual because the solution is to unplug and go out and do actual service.

This is a rant against social media as much as anything else.

I'm tired of being placated.

I feel like that's all this is.

I'm not tired of asking, or the idea of keeping the fight up.

The question I've been asking myself is...are we asking for the right things or are the asks in response to the symptoms (i.e., most present result of...)of the root problem?

until interlocked economic power and wealth backed by self-reliance happens then everything short of that is at risk of marginalization, our outright destruction

and even then...getting to that point, or attempts to get that point are at risk of being undermined.

Heres the thing, I've been really thinking about the situation and I cannot find a point of leverage yet that topples the problem in a way that makes sense to me.

with alt right people to see what the other side is saying..

I used to watch Fox News just to see what they were saying about Obama to beat people to the punch regarding politics. That shit is exhausting and frustrating.

Now add that to where we are now where every episode, commercial, product, etc is followed up with a twitter movement about how its insulting to a race or a movement.

Shit is reaching a point that’s laughable... and it sucks because you end up sounding like THEM when you speak on it.

cant do this because it effects that group
cant fo that because it effects that group
and that apology was also insensitive to this group because that group used to be..

well damn..

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

it's scary because the movement has gone underground. we kicked them off facebook, twitter, youtube, reddit. I agreed with that move...I think, but then I don't think we had much of an option. They managed to hack and bypass systems and gain direct access to the minds of young (see: the pewdiepie pipeline) and old people (see: the radicalization of my father)

while we're all collectively wiping our brows and saying "that was close", we have no idea where the fuck any activity is happening. things have moved to encrypted channels so...

in the end, that actually didnt frustrate me or create some burnout.

I kind of lost my mind becuase I could not answer the question - "where do ideas come from?" meaning, in the lead up to the 2016 election and in the time of 45's era, I was able to observe what seemed like waves of ideas.

For example, in one area, like a youtube comment (of which, of course, I don't intentionally read youtube comments, but sometimes you have to), I would see something like (and this is just a very random example) "The color orange is fucking it up for everyone", cue me looking confused but keeping it moving. But then over days, weeks and months, I would more statements about the damned color orange until it became a large swell of resentment about the color orange.

This part is...eh, it does and does not get to me. A lot of progressive voices were taken down several pegs NOT for saying the wrong thing outright, but for not saying the right thing, the right way. I saw this coming and it makes sense that the dirtbag left would be a pickup point for the casualties...but there is something about the dirtbag left and anti idpol folks that smells vaugely of shit.

all the answers are in history books and people want to scream at each other as if things just magically fucking appeared.

there are people and organizations wherever you are that are busy fighting the power...in real life.

not just online.

YOU be that change you wanna see. go make a difference.

and consistently work towards that.

its not rocket science.

there is a Green Party local that would love to have your assistance for example...somewhere close to you.

in other words to me you dont get to be tired. you havent done anything.
