"I want to get in shape but will they still want me??"


  

          

So I was briefly mentioning to Mahogany this weekend that I want to lose weight and be healthy but I'm not going to lie and say part of me being unhealthy has been the simple fact that *I* feel I look better with a little weight on me.

I LIKE being thick.

It just comes with shit I don't like. Like being fatigued doing stupid things like going up the stairs at the train station, always being two burgers away from being really big, and buying clothes!

My weight has always been up and down. When I got down to my "weight loss goal" of 150lbs ((which is still well above what my doctor says I should be)) a few years ago EVERYONE said I'd lost too much weight and basically called me lil Luther. I mean I did look a little like Jennifer Hudson, and she looks good but you know what I mean.

Anyway, I started in February, and the goal was to just get fit! I didn't set a goal other than saying I wanted a flatter stomach and to get rid of my back fat. I did weigh myself just because I still wanted that number and so I could monitor something. So in the beginning of Feb I was at 185lbs, and I'm currently at 174lbs...

Not bad but I can already see I'm losing my booty... Oh lord... This is totally vain I know but I don't want to lose my ass! I have been squatting my ass off thinking it would just make it lift and get tighter but I think it's worked against me. ;-(

When I lived down south I swear it's GOT to be something in the water because I was able to be thin and still have my ass. My stomach used to be FLAT but I still had a great shape.

What to do ya'll??? I don't want to lose my shape! I workout four times a week and I haven't gone full blown diet but I have made major changes in my overall diet. How do I lose the weight I WANT to lose but keep what weight that I love?


Let me have my little shallow moment... I know my health is more important. I want to live long, I want to be fit, I want to have my flat tummy...

I'm thinking maybe I'll just lose the weight... then get my booty done. lol

Okay so, I don't know if you have access to a gym, but you're going to need more than 30lbs to maintain or build your glutes.

most womens purses and crap we schlep around weigh more than 15 lbs.

In my barre class I'm lifting and squatting with 50lbs but it's different than when I''m using free weights to do lunges and squats hanging by my side. In the barre class it's over my head and across the small of my neck. Kind of hard to explain. But it feels different for me.

Some times I use the 25lb body bar to do leg raises to carve out my thighs and my butt too. Right now I can't imagine using a heavier bar.

your body will adjust and what you're doing now will seem easy to you after while. You're eventually going to move to the bar on your back for squats more exclusively as you outgrow the smaller dumbbells.

How you feel about you is what matters most. You will attract a differnt kind of guy.

Thick may be good now, but gravity...

I like being fit. I lost a lot of sloppy uneccessary ass (yes some ass can be too much) now its smaller (all of me is smaller) but way better than the one I had bf.

OR maybe work out less but focus more on diet.

for me, its all about keeping a flat stomach. i find i can eat whatever i want for the most part and keep my tummy flat as long as i taper my carbs off in the pm.

I just found out about my knees being bad too. I had been doing squats and lunges with weights but now I have to chill on them and not go so hard.

I'm trying different things with my diet to see if I can alter my results.

So I'm going no dairy and low carbs for a month

I'm 6'1 240, use to be 350 some years ago. But I've had black folk (some family members who are chunky) in particular tell me I work out too much whereas the white folk tell me to do what makes you feel and look healthier. I'll go out and get water all the time with my meals and I got some of my folk say "I don't see how you can drink water like that". smh. I pay it no mind really cuz now I live a bodybuilder type lifestyle and like it. I love making them gains. lol

I have been able to do 4 days a week without crying but I don't want to live in the gym. I just want to be fit!! Be able to do physical activities without fatigue and be healthy.

I was the same way. I use to work out a couple times a week and was like ehhh. But when I started to see little results here and there I started working out with my buddies who are trainers and then got hooked. Now I work out 6 days a week targeting different muscle groups each day so that I hit each muscle group twice a week. I spend more money on protein powder now each month than I do going out lol.

I had 4 knee surgeries after a football injury so my knees are all but shot. BUT deadlifts have been great compared to the squats. I am about to add squats back, as well as weighted step ups, but deadlifts have been a lifesaver. I don't even do them on leg day, but on "core" day.

But in regards to "booty" the more weight you add to the bar (gradually) should end up retaining the shape you want.

i mean, i'm moderately slammable but got enough muscle to deter most that feel froggy...

i've been 185 before and that was a lot of muscle mass...

but if you're over 5'6...it's probably still well distributed

but yea...booty is a build and destroy type of thing...u might start off burning some of that excess booty but as your glutes, hams, and quads develop...they come back with a lil bit more shape too

everyone always shouts out squats but i feel like they grow your quads more than your posterior chain and most people have weak posterior chains...so i'd do more deadlifts, lunges (non-jumping since you mentioned your knees), glute ham raises (work up to them, i can barely do them), glute bridges...this will mostly tone it at first but once u start increasing weight...u might surprise yourself with your new booty

also, working on that core makes just about any booty look better...so lots of compound exercises

edit: oh, and apparently i missed the booty...can i be provided with a late pass?
