he was never really an actor outside of Seinfeld and he still does stand up shows... but its not like he would have to do anything with all the money he made off, and is STILL making, from Seinfeld.

He just got a lot of press coverage at Cannes.

He's been on Letterman, Larry King, The Daily Show, Regis and Kelly, etc. all multiple times in recent years.

He's put out a DVD or two.

Plus, he was at the 07 Oscars.

That's not exactly a disappearing act.

Then, as the poster a couple ahead of me said, he still does enough stand-up. Plus, there's his own movie coming out next year.

And I forgot the American Express spots.

I don't think Seinfeld has trouble "getting work."

It seems to be a choice.

for some one to do 1 hbo special after the biggest sitcom of the 90's and then not work again for 10 years is alittle baffling.

you're missing the point that has been made several times already:

Jerry Seinfeld is NOT AN ACTOR AND NEVER WAS.

he was a comedian who had a TV show.

he's STILL working, if you go to comedy clubs and stuff.

as a standup comedian.

which is all he ever was.

he didn't even want to do the Seinfeld show because he wasn't interested in being an actor... the only reason he did it was because he got to essentially just be himself while the supporting cast did all the heavy lifting, acting-wise.

Chris Tucker is smart. He just sits back in his crib, waits for the next Rush Hour script to hit his dormat, and collects the check. I mean, he only reappears when those movies come out.

Demi Moore, again, "for a minute", was getting more press than any other leading woman in Hollywood (re: dating Ashton Kutcher).

>demi moore was probably the biggest female star for a
>minute...
>
>neither of them have worked more than twice this decade.

She had notable roles in the Charlie's Angels movie and then Bobby. I mean, she had a movie that opened two weeks back even (Mr. Brooks).

Say Phil Hartman next, because that's about as credible a choice as this post has to offer.

demi moore used to headline movies.
same with pretty much everyone i listed in the intial post...

her roles in mr brooks or bobby werent notable as nobody cared to see them.

after gi jane and striptease bombed i'm pretty sure she all but retired from acting...

and if you dont like the names im picking - why dont u pick some more suitable candidates rather than argue with me about mine.

In response to Reply # 33

Since 2001, Hunt has done two movies and Empire Falls.

Stone did some flicks in the 00's but they've all pretty much sucked. Then again, it's not like she was starred in a lot of good movies in the 90's either.

Demi Moore was one of the biggest stars of the 90's and basically disappeared from 2000 to 2006. She's working more now though.

He used to be really good.

The last thing I remember him headlining was either Multiplicity (which was kinda good) or that one with Andy Garcia where he played a psychotic doctor and was HORRIBLE in it. I never saw Jack Frost.

He even had a "rehab me like you did Travolta" role in jackie Brown that did nothing.

But I remember not even noticing that until I read his name in the credits.

Well that does it!!

I've now decided what with The Sopranos ending, the NBA Season being over for all intents and purposes, and my court mandate work project coming to a close that I am going to dedicate my forseeable free time to getting Michael Keaton's career back on track.

I'm going to do my part to make June 2007 the semi-official Okayplayer "Hey...Remember Michael Keaton?" month. Starting today I will have Michael Keaton avatars and signatures and do my best to drop the name here and there. I'll also be revealing several semi-official Big Chief Rumbletummy "Phun Phacts" regarding the former actor and his former career, RIP. There will also be a 50-50 raffle, refreshments, and I'm trying to get a dunk tank set up in the PTP Archives. Of course, any monies raised will go to getting Mike some new head shots...whatever it takes to get Mr. Keaton back where he belongs!

So remember: June 14, 2007 - June 28, 2007 <-- These 2 weeks comprise the semi-official Okayplayer "Hey...Remember Michael Keaton?" month.

I wash my hands...and my FEET of you!!

He's in a movie here and there but the 'promise' of his potential has never materialized. Many forget that he has an OSCAR as part of his resume.

Carry on.

In response to Reply # 58

Bacon was supporting in Mystic River and Beauty Shop. After that, the other films didn't really amount to much, if anything. Hell, he's uncredited in two of them.

From 90 to 00, he had

Hollow Man (2000) .... Sebastian Caine
My Dog Skip (2000) .... Jack Morris
Stir of Echoes (1999) .... Tom Witzky
Wild Things (1998) .... Sgt. Ray Duquette
Picture Perfect (1997) .... Sam Mayfair
Sleepers (1996) .... Sean Nokes
Apollo 13 (1995) .... Jack Swigert
Murder in the First (1995) .... Henri Young
The River Wild (1994) .... Wade
The Air Up There (1994) .... Jimmy Dolan
A Few Good Men (1992) .... Capt. Jack Ross
JFK (1991) .... Willie O'Keefe
He Said, She Said (1991) .... Dan Hanson
Flatliners (1990) .... David Labraccio
Tremors (1990) .... Valentine McKee

"Disappears" is an overstatement but after 2001 he hasn't exactly been in nearly as many mainstream films.

I know they did Touching Evil (the show) but they haven't done much of late.

Rachel Leigh Cook tried producing her own stuff and was on Vegas for a bit but she fell off the map.

Vanderbeek was actually on Criminal Minds a week or so ago.

She had a nice five year run; From '96 to '00 (Swingers, Two Girls and a Guy, Boogie Nights, Scream 2, Lost in Space, Austin Powers, Bowfinger). She then had From Hell, Committed, Sidwalks of NY and some other films in the beginning of 2000's.

Lately, she's had her own show briefly (Emily's Reasons Why Not, which is a good premise that didn't catch) and she also was in Scrubs and did an episode of Arrested Devlopment.
Her movie career has fizzled but she's basically had a film a year which isn't too bad.

A half-season run on Scrubs, a cameo on Arrested Development and a sitcom that was cancelled after one week isn't really much to brag about when you used to be a legitimately big name.

A lot of people named in the original post and later post are all in Bobby: Christian Slater, Demi Moore, Helen Hunt, Heather Graham, Emilio Estevez (not sure if he was named or not), Sharon Stone, dude from Dawson's Creek. That movie had everyone and anyone.

104. "You need to define "disappear""
In response to Reply # 102

Because people are taking it as literally disappeared and haven't done anything. Helen Hunt and Kevin Bacon have definitely seen a drop in their workload but because Bacon had a supporting role in Beauty Shop, they act like he didn't "disappear".

Pfeiffer and Ryder both took hiatuses but they are back with films. Do they count?

The idea of top notch actors who are now slumming or working less than before is interesting but people are taking "disappeared" literally because it was never defined. The original examples were all over the place and the concept was never defined.

Vanderbeek, Slater, Campbell make sense to me. They still pop up now and then but they are not nearly as busy as they once were. You can also make an argument for Kevin Bacon. You could even make an argument for Chris Tucker but he's never really been a busy actor.

Hunt, Stone, Moore, Davis are on a different level. They are still working but they went from being at the top of the game to supporting players in bad films.

But greg kinnear has been all over the place, the same with Billy Bob Thornton (now, if you want to wonder what happened to Billy Bob the serious actor, you might have something.)John Leguizamo has been as busy in 2000 as he was in the '90's. Tim Roth doesn't get as many leading roles but he's hardly disappeared and is still a very busy actor. Most of Love Hewitt's film roles were in 2000's and she's back on TV. She's not in the tabloids as much but acting wise she's as busy as she was in the 90's. Chazz Palminteri was never really a leading man and is still working steadily. And then you named Ryan Phillipe who's most acclaimed work has been in this decade and he just had big roles in Breach, Crash, and Flags of our Fathers.

This guy is naming people that have had prominent roles in multiple big-budget films since the time frame he gave. That makes this post inherently shitty. Then, when people point that out, he gets an attitude.

Worst post ever.
