63. "He wasn't getting any serious high-major looks. Which is wild. " In response to In response to 61
But also shows that, when it comes to taking on a kid who was wildly inefficient last year and a dad who micromanages every factor of his son's career, the high-major schools likely just didn't think the juice was worth the squeeze.
Think this is probably the best path for Bates. He *should* in theory be able to get his at the mid-major level. If he'd gone to Louisville and Michigan and stunk it up for a second straight year, he'd be undraftable-- and I know that sounds crazy considering where he was, but it's true. And it's definitely the best path for what Bates's dad wants, as he'll be able to bulldoze the staff at EMU however he pleases.
No clue how this will affect his draft stock. It's already surprisingly low, but Patrick Baldwin Jr. also made poor college choices due to his dad, and he got absolutely *scorched* on defense by mid-major guards due to his lack of athleticism... and he *still* went first round solely based on his HS game tape. Bates shouldn't get as torched as PBJ did, but he's also definitely not the shooter in HS that PBJ was... so I have no clue.
But yeah, this was probably his best option. This or something like Overtime Elite.
