that what is hated is not necessarily the confederacy (or it's flag) per se, but the fervency with which it's legacies (the very rascism you mention) are defended. Similarly, maybe the dislike of the confederacy (and it's symbols) are merely a catch all for distain for the unique brand of in-your-face-rascism that the south use to and still does perpetuate?
