"Wear the CONFEDERATE FLAG!"

Yeah, I said it! Wear it! Display it! These crakas have been right, all this time.

Let's just go down to Bubba's Redneck Eporium and Lynch Wear and ....

Buy a rebel cap with the flag embrodered just over the cap's bill....

Get yourself a tight jean jacket with a small rebel flag just on the sleeve (don't wanna over do it)...

Don't forget to pick up a dingy white/yellow t-shit ( I don't think they come in that pristine white - cuz the crackers would just blend into the shirt)

And for your car buy a stiker for the back windsheild and a license tag that says something like Strips and Bars and Niggers Forever!

THEN.......
Let's all then TELL these crackas that they was white... I mean right all a long by showing up in our late model Trans-ams and Camaroes at some highly visable, telivised, heavily Redneck,... I mean White (sorry Koala),..... I mean Caucasian populated event.

Wadda ya say, Bhooy or Gal?

..it was back around the time when "X" was coming out in theaters and you had all these cats bussing out the Malcolm X gear and promo items for the movie and what-not. Anyway I was on the road back to Atlanta for another grueling semester of school and from Texas you drive thru Louisiana, Mississipi, Alabama and Georgia. So as I make my stop into one of the highway gas station I notice a T-shirt on the rack that had the Confederate flag on the front that something to the effect of 'We've got our 'X' too!' (I'm paraphrasing here) I so wanted to buy it, but the funds just weren't there. The Confederate Flag has about as much meaning as you want to give it. If a redneck wants to champion the South, then go head on.

And you gots no respect for me, is that right?
Well jump your ass on the train witcha backpack tight

sure, we could do it. but why? i'm sure this is a "modest proposal" (look it up) type of suggestion, but i can't figure out the point.

please elaborate as to the reason why one might do this thing (note: rednecks, i know from personal experience, have very little sense of irony or humor, so i kinda think they'd miss the point too)

that it IS about heritage.....
We believe in State's Rights, too....
We have a sense of history, too.....
We know how to hold things sacred too....

"Birth of a Nation" displayed both the egos and the FEARS of white men. One of their fears was our Black men's desire for their lily white women -a coveted, untouchable, virtous mainstay of Redneck, confederate culture......Sacred to them. Now, their women have tasted the sweet nectar that is, dare I say, Kunta Kente and defiled the white race. What do they have left? Why, they've still got their sacred flag that means EVERYTHING and stands for EVERYTHING....... Why not have Kunta ruin that for them too?

Man, these crackas love that flag cuz WE HATE IT!

No, Justice. READ your own response. When your start throwing "hateful" around, you should be more careful. Your post read: Nu!(Exclamation point...normally used to denote yelling or at the very least...loud speech)
"You need to Chill" What do you know about my needs.....And who you talkin too? Obviously me, right?
"Why are you hateful"
Here you called me hateful. Now I don't know what school of thought you are from but by mere grammatical diagramming you used the word "hateful" to describe the pronoun you in this sentence - which makes reference to ME. That is a personal attack. What if I said: Justice, why are you stupid?.....Wouldn't you think that was a personal attack from somebody that doesn't know you? And guess what, I AIN STUPID!

So, I gave you and opportunity to explain and/or apologize. What did you do?

I
>am not one of those "Crackkka's" but would you see me any differently when you
>look into my blue eyes?
You speak as though you already have the answer to the questions you ask of a person that YOU DON'T KNOW. I've never had any dialogue with you. You don't know me at all. YOU CHECK THE BOARDS - I been here for a minute too. Get with some people who know me...Who I've dialogued with....Check my character references....I've never called anybody hateful - nor have I spawned hate. And on these boards I have never been called anything outside of NuShooz, Nu, Shooz or Neet to my freinds.....

>Isn't there another way to fight these people? Well to rock thier gear after all
>those marches in SC to have it removed is a
>regression.
I ATTENDED those marches. Don't try to dictate regression FOR ME. That's YOUR opinion. And you are certainly entitled to it. And guess what? I'm not going to attach an adjective to it! (Exclamation point)

And dont make threats,
>like I posted in GD do you REALLY know your
>enemy?
And you really don't know me.
And threats.......READING IS FUNDAMENTAL - CAPS to denote strong conviction- inflection is so important.
That could have meant that the next time we won't have any dialogue. PERIOD. But it seems that you want to make it into a threat. You got some bags....CARRY THEM!

Okay so you failed to see my point again. I asked you why you were hateful (then later apologized in Email in an attempt to squash a beef with you) to get to the root of your anger.
Then I asked if there was a better way to denounce the flag than ROCKING IT. you bypassed these questions on some rant to prove yourself to who? I said it before this is here to build, you want confrontation. I want answers to better understand what you are hoping to accomplish. Now would you like to continue beefing with me here? Or would you like to help me know where in the fuck you are coming from. If you want some tips on how to TRY to degrade me I'll be more than happy to help you out....

Justice,

No offense, but for a white person tell African-American people that rocking the confederate flag is "regression" is a little unnerving for me. I admit that there are some things that I find distasteful about the confederate flag, much as I find lots of things distasteful. I can voice and objection about them as well. But to tell someone that they have "regressed", especially when you have a very different relation to the confederate flag than they do, is not something for any white person to do.

Fletch
P.S. For the record, I am one of those "white guys" who would probably still be saying shit like justice if it weren't for some good friends who took the time to explain how big an ass I was.

No justice, you did not ask for an opinon, you said that is a regression. That is a statement.

No, there is a difference between voicing what you see as your objection to the confederate flag and saying that what someone did constitutes a regression to the movement against the flag. To be honest, justice, as white folks I am a little uncomfortable about us saying what are the best and worse steps for a movement to abolish racism. I agree that we can offer our criticisms and possible solutions, but to sit there and say "this is right and this is wrong" smacks of the same paternalism that white people do all of the time in matters of race. I think that white people need to do a little less talking and a little more listening.

I didn't mean to bash you, I appreciate your comments. I just disagree with them. I am sorry if that seemed overly harsh.

Justice, I am not so sure that is true. I mean, let's be honest here. As a white guy (sorry Koala) I have not personally felt the forms of oppression and prejudice that effect non-white people. Now I have loved ones and friends who have, but still I can't personally understand what it is like to be non-white in american. If I can't personally understand the dimensions and dynamics of the problem, then why should I have an equal voice?

Slavery was only legal under the Confederacy for roughly 5 years, and if you read up on it, the majority of the Confederacy's leaders (especially Jefferson Davis & Robert Lee) advocated an immediate end to slavery and the bondage of Africans. Their only discussion was whether the Africans should be freed with education or monetary compensation or freed without these things. On the other hand, the US goverment has supported slavery since its inception and de facto slavery through segregation and Jim Crow Laws. The 13th Amendment allows for slavery only if under the control of the federal goverment in the form of prison labor/chain gangs. The Klan also has no claim to the battle flag of the Confederacy as it does not represent them in any way(which is typical of ignorant white racists to misuse symbols intended for other purposes). They wrongly characterize the battle flag as a symbol of slavery whereas the symbol that best characterizes slavery in America is the flag of the US (even Farrakhan agrees with this). Some facts: Less than 10% of southerners owned slaves. Of that 10%, at least 2% of the slaveowners were African. The typical slave owner had generally no more that 2-3 slaves which means that large plantations were owned by a small minority of the population. Further, under the battle flag, most of those (and yes, whites and blacks both fought for the South) who fought and died were in poverty (not the wealthy plantation owners). It was a poor man's war, and thats what that battle flag truly represents.

I do realize that a lot of people are going to h8 me for typing the above, but oh well.
For the record, I do not wear or display the flag because of the misunderstandings and misuse of its history and meaning by ignorant ass racists.

Thanks for reading. I love you.

I'm not trying to come at you wild but I get angry when I hear people try to dissemble about the confederacy. Any symbol of the confederacy is and will always be a symbol of slavery. True the confederacy was fighting for states rights, the states rights to own slaves. If there was no slavery issue there would never have been a confederacy, slavery was the one and only issue that the north and south had to continuosly comprimise on. Maybe the confederacy would have ended slavery eventually but the fact of the matter is that slavery was still on the books when the confederacy went down, slavery was the reason for its creation, so therefore the confederacy will always till the end of the U.S. represent slavery.

>the US goverment has supported slavery
>since its inception and de facto slavery
>through segregation and Jim Crow Laws.

This argument conveniently glides over the fact that the US government only supported slavery at its inception because the damn slave states that made up the confederacy would not have formed a union without it. Thomas Jefferson, regardless of himself owning slaves, wanted to abolish slavery in the constitution but was overruled by the south. And the segregation and jim crow laws were overwhelmingly more manifest in the former confederate states than in the north. The north was always leaps and bounds ahead of the southern (confederate) states in terms of progressive legislation in race relations from many states allowing blacks to vote decades before the 14 and 15 amendments to pioneering integrated schools. The U.S. flag symbolized slavery as long as the confederate states were apart of it and pretty much ceased to be once they departed (the border states slavery days were already numbered ). It definitely ceased to be after the Gettysburgh address which redefined the war as a fight against slavery.

>Less than 10% of southerners owned slaves.
>Of that 10%, at least 2% of the slaveowners
>were African.

Those 10% slaveowners were the ones who controlled the state governments and made them secede. It is irrelevant if most of the confederate soldiers were poor and didn't own slaves. The majority of the Wermacht (German army) officers and soldiers were not nazis, but since the nazis controlled Germany, the Wermacht fought for the nazis. By the same token, those poor non-slaveholders were fighting for slavery whether they liked it or not. And why do people always seem to feel the need to point out that some blacks owned slaves? As if to say that validates it.

>It was a poor man's war, and thats what
>that battle flag truly represents.

No it was an oppressors' war and that is what the battle flag and all things confederate represent and will always represent. The U.S. might have represented slavery and oppression at one time, but it has moved and continues to move beyond that stigma. The confederacy can never remove itself of it.

I never mentioned states' rights as the "cause" for the war. It is common knowledge that slavery was the primary issue for the war and the attempt at secession. I do not practice revisionist history. My contention is that the flag of the federal govt (the US) as a symbol is far more guilty of slavery, oppression, and racism than the brief history that the confederate battle flag could ever be. The vehemance towards the confederate battle flag is misguided in my opinion, because there is still a larger (and far more powerful) oppressor that is still running this place we call America.

The US was built on the backs of slaves. I find it hard to pin the blame solely on the failed govt of the confederacy when the federal US govt promoted, maintained, and encouraged slavery in America from its inception.

No argument there except that the federal govt allowed for the de facto segregation and Jim Crow laws to continue until it became politically unfeasible to do so. Although, if you read Constitution: Fact or Fiction? by Dr. Eugene Schroeder, you might be surprised to find out that the 14th amendment was never legally adopted or ratified.

Two things: I can sorta see your analogy to the nazis except that the nazis had political control of the country while the confederacy barely had control of anything. To make matters worse, most of the Union generals and soldiers were unabashed racists (especially Sherman) and actually supported the slavery of Africans. Second, I made the comment about the percentages simply to show that an extremely small portion of the southern population had any real financial investment in slavery (and those are the ones who didn't have to fight in the war). Essentially most southerners who fought for the south were literally fighting to protect their homes and meager livings. By the way, nothing validates slavery or makes it acceptable.

Of course the confederacy can't remove the stigma, the confederacy was eliminated. The poor southerners caught the worst from the civil war in terms of both casualties and financial loss. Many of the large plantation owners still retained their money and political clout and kept their slaves in the form of sharecroppers. The US federal govt did very little to correct the situation. So it was a poor man's war cause the rich stayed rich and powerful.
As far as oppressors go, the greater oppressor won the war, and that was my point. To me, that greater oppressor still has more control over the course of our lives than the confederacy ever would have (especially since the confederacy didn't want a centralized power conglomerate like we have now). The US still bears the stigma of racism and slavery. In my opinion, this place (the US) has not made the kind of attempts at rectifying the situation that it created and allowed to flourish. I hope this clarification will explain my unpopular opinion of not caring about the confederate battle flag or anything it could represent because the US govt's flag is the longest flying symbol of oppression, slavery, and racism that America has ever seen.

JUSTICE... you were completely off in the first place, for real 3rd-person style, that was out of nowhere.

Nu's comments are right on, hillarious, and also politically powerful. This is a solid social-marketing strategy, and would be as successful as entertaining. Stupid people feel stupid when you expose their stupidity--represent!

Furthermore, Nu's comments were not "hateful." And you have no right to be offended by the term cracker, or discussion of the evils of a sociological abstract "white man." These are accurate, true, and philosophically valid discussions, not fueled by hate, but by knowledge.

My hat is off to Nu, and I wish you'd take a moment to realize that you have no need or place to make a philosophical discussion turn personal merely because you're comfortable in participating in it's content.

Made love to you both, JUSTICE just over-reacted, it happens to white-cats seeking enlighteninment.

a point people seem to be missing:
I never said the south or the confederacy wasn't racist. Ever. I only pointed out that we are hating a dead idea of govt (the confederacy) instead of the current power structure (the federal US govt) that has kept the BS alive and well far longer that the brief history of the confederacy could have in its 5 yrs without any real power. You can h8 the confederacy all you want, but its seems terribly misguided since for one, the confederacy isn't in existence, and two, the govt that created all the problems in the first place is still running things.

Thanks for reading. I love you.

that what is hated is not necessarily the confederacy (or it's flag) per se, but the fervency with which it's legacies (the very rascism you mention) are defended. Similarly, maybe the dislike of the confederacy (and it's symbols) are merely a catch all for distain for the unique brand of in-your-face-rascism that the south use to and still does perpetuate?

but what the hell do i know?

36. "Let me clarify myself"
In response to Reply # 28

I might have come off as if I thought all the racism and oppression was contained within the slave states. I do not. I understand that the U.S. as a whole has been and continues to be oppressive and racist in some ways. But speaking strictly on the issue of slavery and racism, I charge that the confederacy was and the southern states are far worse than the north ever was.

>The US was built on the backs of slaves.
>I find it hard to pin the blame solely on
>the failed govt of the confederacy when
>the federal US govt promoted, maintained,
>and encouraged slavery in America from its
>inception

I'm at work right now and don't have any of my history sources with me so I might not be 100% accurate in everything I say, but except for border states like kentucky, I believe all the northern states had already abolished slavery either in the last years of the 18th century or the first 20 years of the 19th century. And that had to do with a mixture of idealism and the growth of industry. So the U.S. (counting from 1789 on)was built on the backs of southern slaves. And to say the federal government prompted, maintained and encouraged slavery from its inception is not entirely accurate. Many people in the govt wanted to end the slave trade immediately, but because of the south they had to comprimise and wait till 1807. Many people wanted all new territories acquired to be free but because of the south they had to comprimise. Basically, when the U.S. as a whole maintained or encouraged slavery, it is only representative of the southern states wishes. I think someone said in the 1830's that eventually there would be no comprimise and that the north and the south would have to fight.

>He was also overruled by many northern
>delegates as well. The north is just as
>notoriously racist as the south is.

I might not be remembering correctly but I think if there had been no southern delegation the clause that was deleted from the constitution recoginzing the humanity of africans might have been included. And of course the north was as racist as the south but if I had to choose, I would rather deal with people who hate the black man as a person but acknowledge that he is a human being (the north), than with people who like the black man as a individual(like you would a dog) but think of him as an animal (the south).

>Many of the large plantation owners still
>retained their money and political clout and
>kept their slaves in the form of sharecroppers.
>The US federal govt did very little to correct
>the situation. So it was a poor man's war cause
>the rich stayed rich and powerful.

>To me, that greater oppressor still has more
>control over the course of our lives than the
>confederacy ever would have (especially since
>the confederacy didn't want a centralized power
>conglomerate like we have now). The US still
>bears the stigma of racism and slavery. In my
>opinion, this place (the US) has not made the
>kind of attempts at rectifying the situation
>that it created and allowed to flourish. I
>hope this clarification will explain

I agree with most of this, however, you seem to think that the U.S. is worst than the confederacy and that is where we diverge. The U.S. has done many bad things but I do sincerely believe that the country continues to improve and progress. And at a point in its history when it was trying to progress by acknowledging the humanity of africans, the confederacy left the union because it would not recognize this. So that is why I think the confederacy is worse than the U.S. as a whole becuase it symbolizes reactionism, racism, and slavery. The U.S. stumbles and damn near falls down but it continues to move forward. The confederacy represents slavery and intolerance first and foremost, if you want you can say it represented resistance to big government second, but similar to what I said earlier, I'll take a big government that recognizes my humanity than a less intrusive one that doesn't.
Peace.

Sort of like using and reclaiming words that have historically been used as oppressive mechanisms in order to divest them of their power?

Or like co-opting someone else's separatist symbol to create a unifying force?

Hmmm. Interesting. But, honestly, it kind of turns my stomach. Just a gut reaction. But I honor the convo and your intention.

Peace

i have to give it to you NUshooz that a pretty revolutionary mission statement your asking us to sign. First and foremost i'll just state on A PERSONAL NOTE that i have no qualms with the idea
at all. I'll be glad to support the cause but lets examine the history behind most of this.
in a small county called Auburn,SC.( about the early 70's a group of local college students tried the same idea. Arguing on the point that it probably won't help with race issues and the flag probably might remain in its same dignified form that adorned their campus, but it just might raise a curious attention to the controversy that will rise at hand due to the circumstances they were about to create. The story goes they adorned themselves with symbols, paraphenelia, ect. And nonviolently attended their classes, emulating tendencies that they would naturally have on any given school day. By the middle of the day these kids were stoned, verbally abused, kicked out of most their classes, and later arraigned on charges at the end of the day...They accomplished their goal by raising attention. however their consequences rendered that they were expelled from school, on the grounds that they were not wearing appropriate attire that suited the institutes dress code regulations AND that their actions provoked violence on school grounds .
"somebody said the revltioun will not be televised!" they're right because it nobody's gonna give a shit when it happens.

thanks for the information. It's extremely interesting. And it details a gross denial of constituional rights. Did these students DO anything? What happened to them?
I think they could have garned more progressive attention if they had made the world aware of their situtation. The way you detailed the campus's reaction to their display sounds a whole lot like the way those folks in Greensboro reated to our students at the Woolworth lunch counter. THAT STARTED A MOVEMENT.

I don't even see Black folk buying, wearing, or supporting their own, why in the hell should they support somone else.

How many folks you see with a "Pro-Black" nation bumper sticker.

How many folks you see with a Black Panther Party T-Shirt, hell better yet a Satchel Paige or Cool Papa Bell t-shirt.

I'd even go as far to say I'd rather see a Shaft (Richard Roundtree)(in jest), Tee or belt buckle then a Conferderate flag.

Good initiative, bad judgement.

And besides how many fuckin' East Coast heads are in the fuckin' Midwest. And then have the nerve not to say it when he plays Jay-Z.

still remains. But I think you've missed the point. It's not about support. When you buy something indeginous to Black people from some non-black person, are you supporting somebody Black? No. That's not what this is about. Read the whole thread and get back.
