"Real talk, how many pairs of shoes you keep in rotation?"

Am I wrong??

I got:
2 pairs of running shoes....
3 pairs of sneakers...which were really purchased as running shoes, but didn't work out so I just kick around in them instead....
1 pair of "dressy casual sneakers"...you know...the type that are styled like sneakers but you can't do shit but lamp in them....

All of these were purchased between 1-3 years ago....all on sale...DEEP discounts....

I'm up for rotation on the 2 pairs of running shoes due to mileage....

The 3 pairs of sneakers can easily continue to serve that role for kicking around in...but they ain't really something to rock when "stepping out".....

Nike had a members sale...and I went in....

2 new pairs of runners...again...deep discount....
a pair of blazers because i'd been eyeing them as an alternate casual sneaker to have on deck....

Just saw another pair of runners on deep discount that i'm coping...and i'll put about 10 miles on each pair and send back the least desirable pair after i've given them a spin...

This is my shoe buying routine....

Now...
the wife...
SHE sees shoes getting delivered and it translates to her that i'm "ALWAYS BUYING SHOES!"

but the reality is....it's more of an annual thing that just so happens to land EVERY fall......

do I have a problem?

Keep in mind...I NEVER pay full price...and the discounts I score easily are min. 30% off and usually lean more towards 50% off....

It depends on how you define "rotation".

I own about 35 pairs of sneakers (I'm a "sneakerhead" but picky about what I buy and I also periodically sell/donate pairs) and I will wear all of them but how frequently definitely depends on the pair.

I consider any shoe I will wear as part of my rotation...but some of my pairs I probably wear twice a year max.

I also have two pairs of "dress" shoes for work - a black pair and a brown pair. I wear both weekly just depending on what shirt I'm wearing...usually the black pair twice a week and the brown the other 3 days.

That's about it for my shoe rotation.

edit re: the wife - my wife doesn't have a problem w/ it because i use my side hustle money to cop. also, she's a bit of a shoe fan herself so i usually cop her a pair here and there.

mudroom on the shoe rack lol...
I got pairs in my closet that are well over 6 years old that I really should be getting rid of but I be too lazy....

I didn't count my dress shoes simply because I rarely, if ever, dress up. I have a pair of loafer and a pair of lace ups though. My actual work shoes are work boots and they stay in the office. I put them on Mr. Rogers style when I go to the office.

Your wife should holler at my wife, regarding shoes being delivered. She’d change her tune, quick. For real, though....I know people who aren’t even sneakerheads who keep a 5 to 10 pair rotation.

I should just get rid of the other ones. The thing is most of my sneakers don't really get worn out, I just get bored of them. So they just end up sitting in my closet because they seem to nice to get rid of.

ratty...the glues and foam and other structural elements degrade over time rendering them a little less good for your feet. I know homeless and shoeless folks might be like GTFOHWTBS...but it stuck with me for some reason...so I got a rack of shoes that look just fine....but in my heart of hearts...I know that they are structurally unsound..and I can't bear to donate them knowing that some poor soul may be injured when wearing them...

1 pair of Havianas
2-3 pairs of Vans
1 pair of shitty running shoes
1 pair of workout shoes (shitty $20 flat soled martial arts joints)
2 pairs of kicking it sneaks (Killshot nikes & Jordan 1 mids)
1 pair of Clarks bankrobbers...

then there's the dress shoes and J's i only bust out for keeping for sepcial occasions.

Sometimes ill remember I dont need them and will go for my casual slip on sketchers. I have another pair of red jordan sneakers that I haven't worn in over 6 months. Some dressy shoes that I will wear when appropriate. I think any others I have I just need to toss.

So in actual rotation 2. I would probably wear the slip ons more if we weren't in a pandemic. Maybe up to 35% of the time that I wear shoes.

Between casual wear sneakers, running sneakers, basketball sneakers, dress shoes, and boots, I probably have around 30-35 pairs altogether.

I probably mainly wear 3-4 of my “casual sneakers” regularly, 2 pairs of running shoes that I still use, an old pair of running shoes that I mow the lawn in, 3 pairs of dress shoes that I wear to work, and 3 pairs of boots that I’ll wear when the occasion calls for it(a pair of winter boots for snow blowing the driveway, a pair of dressier boots, and some Timbs for casual wear. Haven’t hooped since covid so none of those get worn right now. So call it roughly 13 that I wear regularly?

A couple of my casual sneakers are older but they’re classics and I still wear them once in awhile. And a couple are newer that I only want to break out on occasion. And I got probably 7-8 pairs of b-ball sneakers sitting in the closet. Really miss playing. Definitely don’t need all those pairs though, but they’re all still wearable.

Dress shoes: 2 black, 2 brown
Work shoes (boots): 1 lowtop, 1 hightop
Sneakers: 1 jogging, 1 basketball, 2 old beaters for yardwork

Seems like a lot, but the only pair that didn't come from the thrift or second-hand store are the workboots.

but I only wear 6.

The other 6 are run over and I wear them for yard work or I just can’t bring myself to throw them out because they still work and are comfortable.

My coworkers hadn't seen the same pair of shoes twice in 3 years.

Now though, I just grab the Black Cement 3's or whatever matching pair is closest, run to the store, and come back home.

all i have in rotation are these things in the house...fuck it, I walk around the neighborhood in them too: https://www.allbirds.com/products/mens-wool-loungers

and when I go out on a walk longer than a block I wear these: https://www.amazon.in/Brooks-Adrenaline-Anthracite-Electric-Silver/dp/B01GEU0DZQ

I've been reduced to wearing these beat the fuck up silver ass shoes and I don't give a fuck.

you think I planned for my life to end up like this?

I have a closet FULL of nice dress shoes because my game is business casual but business done closed up and all my life is is work from home, living in the same goddamned day over and over and over and over.

why the fuck even wear shoes? I should just wear the boxes the bitches come in because nothing good or bad matters in life anymore except netflix, facemasks and trying hard not to throw the remote at the TV because fuck all of this shit.

like a dumb motherfucker I picked up these flowery ass boots back in January thinking "hey, maybe something good might happen this year" https://taftclothing.com/collections/boots/products/the-jack-boot-in-eden

NO NIGGA NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS IN THIS GOD FOR FUCKING SAKEN YEAR NIGGA. NOTHING.

i've lost my identity. i don't even know what matters to me outside of my family. so, yeah, what the fuck ARE shoes to a man that only wears them because not wearing them is a huge risk of re-fracturing a dodgy foot

that the cat runs when he see me putting on my shoes, because he knows that when they're going to the vet, the first thing I do is put on my shoes and jacket before I get them in the crate.

about 7 pairs over by the door, I swap new ones in every week or two.

I have way fewer shoes now than I did even a couple of years ago

it works. We both wear a 13 wide. Sadly, he inherited my Fred Flintstone-like feet.

I have tried a lot of different shoes, but finally discovered the best brand for me, New Balance. After scouring the internet for deals, I have come across a few go to sites for NB clearance deals.

Basically, I cop 2 or 3 pairs every month. None over $60, some as low as $25. We've got runners, cross trainers, casual sneakers, cleats (he plays lacrosse and rugby), and hikers.

I might get a pair, wear them a few times and give them to him. Or, I might order him some, they arrive, and I decide to keep them for myself .

Currently, between the two of us, we have about 20-25 pairs of NB.

Every blue moon. I'll get another brand, like some classic Adidas, Vans or Pumas. But, because of my chubby feet, they never look as cool as I thought they would. So, those end up going to him.

every once in a while i'm tempted to reup on some 996s like I used to rock in the 90's.....then I remember how bad they made my feet & shins feel after wearing them for a stretch...so I chill..

But you right about them $25 sales they be having....it's tempting.

Nike running shoes... that i sometimes wear if i'm not running..

i just brought some black leather wallabees (I've had the brown ones for quite a few years, looks worn but I still like them)

I bought some Adidas Ultraboost when i was at the outlet about a month ago.. still haven't wore them...

I found my old Kobe 6, cleaned them up a bit and have been wearing those whenever i'm stepping out..

this pandemic has me like "why?", if they are on sale, I'll cop em.. or if I happen to catch something on SNKRS definitely .. other than that... eh

49. "Sidebar for dress shoe people: Anyone own a shine box?"
In response to Reply # 0

Since my grandfather was in the army, he made sure my dad knew how to shine shoes (even though my father doesn't really wear dress shoes, but whatever). Between work and worship we always had dress shoes and had to maintain them. So I've always had a can of Kiwi and a brush and hept by dress shoes from looking ashy.

As I've got older and bought better quality leather shoes, I find myself down the rabbit hole with cleaners, conditioners, creme polishes, waxes and mirror waxes. It's tiring putting a good mirror shine on a shoe, but it is relaxing and rewarding after staring at a screen for 10+ hours at work. The cap toe on my mahogany AE Fifth Aves looks like glass

I haven't polished a shoe in over 30 years...but damn I still remember the smell of that shine box and the collection of polishes.
