First, "the way things work" hasn't applied to Trump in any way shape or form. From the racist things he's said, to the media letting him get away with it, to him not releasing his taxes, etc.
You can't use "the way things work" to defend someone treating Tump like a normal candidate, when he himself has been un-apologetically not normal.
There are PLENTY of things that could have been handled differently.
NBC could have not booked him, Fallon could have not jerked him off on stage, etc.
Hell they could have even pre-recorded the interview so the Roots wouldn't have to make a tough decision, and maybe Fallon wouldn't have been his usual nervous school girl self.
And then there's the Roots themselves.
Look, the Roots are my hands down favorite hip-hop group of all time but they didn't think this Fallon gig through, apparently.
You can't be a dynamic HIP HOP group that tries to make important statement albums like say Game Theory
AND be the cross-dressing house band for a bafoon.
You just can't.
And by "can't" I mean- you can't expect to not be called on your apparent hypocrisy.
When ?uesto walked back the Bachman thing in such an embarrassing way, I knew things would never be the same.
At first I thought he used his platform to call some sh!t out. More people caught it than he thought, and he WALKED IT BACK.
I mean, cmon.
A group of HIP HOP artists now have nightly boss(es).
This isn't the label just saying "you can't release this"
This is a major network demanding....well, I won't even say it.
And they willfully signed up for it!!
I know, I know "don't hate them getting paid"
FOH
You can't be both. You can't be the group dropping heavy, message albums and be the backup band why a cartoon character runs his fingers through the hair of a RACIST who WANTS TO BE PRESIDENT.
***And lets be real, this post would have went triple plat had the involved artist been anyone from Ye to Drake to even an old board favorite like Common. The involved artist would have been F R I E D.
But, because everyone is under the impression 15 lurks...its a$$ kiss central on here.
And again, I'm not just spewing pure hatred because I LOVE (ED?) the Roots.
But Donald Trump is f*cking evil , dogg. And he is being validated.
I mean, its bad enough he is being validated (or worse- treated softly) by white media from Lauer to Fallon
But to have my favorite Rap Group up there playing some song about a wall so that maybe, just maybe someone on Okayplayer can use it as proof they "stood up"??
Nah dog, they all should have called off sick. F*ck it.
And don't give me that "it's their job"
PLENTY of people throughout history have used their famous jobs as a platform to send a message.
Hell some are doing it RIGHT NOW.
So again, "the way things work" is some bullsh!t. Rules have changed.
