You're either watching the movie and picturing the comic, or vice versa. The key to enjoying both is your ability to compartmentalize. The book is the book, and the movie is the movie. I think a lot of people have resigned themselves to this fact and that's why the hate level is staying nice and low for now. Expectations have been re-calibrated, if not lowered.
You know, this is going to be my first time seeing an Alan Moore comicbook movie having actually read the book first. I saw V before I read the book (and actually preferred the movie), and the same with 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'... which I probably would have hated had I read the book first. But I didn't so I actually found the movie kind of tolerable. That's not a bad strategy really, to experience the crappy version first.
