I've been in full-throated support of eliminating the filibuster since dems won the senate, but there *is* definitely risk like what you outlined.
Like you said it's only worth it if dems are willing to jam massive, sweeping legislation thru in the coming months before the midterms. My thought is that if people, even some more moderate repugs, start to see their lives improve with dems in power, it may swing some important votes in important states and keep the majority in place longer than if this back and forth volley continues through to the midterms.
