So, that argument of only sticking to artsy fartsy "independant films" for the sake of being different and unorthodoxed is not a stable one. I'm not saying that we should solely rely on Hollywood (because I'm all in favor of self-sufficient production), but let's not put things into neat homogenous categories. White folks in Hollywood make spectacular "academy-award winning films" all the time (and some of them are actually good). Should we make a "Black-wood"? I think it's all about us making the kinds of movies that we would like to see, and creating a way to effectively market and showcase these. We have the Black film festivals, but how many of us actually support it when it does happen?
