"OKP Survivor XII - (Week 12): Past the half dash"

****Payments Update****
Delinquent:
-The Champ ($72)

You have until 11:59pm EST on January 31st to get me the fee without further penalty.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Week 12 Rankings:
1. Tribeca HiBrows (Ern)(1)(23-12, 298.1) - Chugging along as the top ranked team but suddenly, with normalization, doesn't look so head-and-shoulders above the fray.
2. Earthquake State Degenerate Gamblers (Ryan)(4)(23-12, 288.2) - Recent surge has Ryan poised at his 2nd Walton crown in 3yrs. With Nerlens and Pat Bev back in the fold, he's a legit title contender also looking for his second crown in 3 yrs.
3. Stanley Forms a Wall (Boogs)(5)(23-12, 289) - Coming off an 8 game wins steak and 10 of the last 12. Something, something, Boogs, finals again, something, something, yaaaawn.
4. Duval County Plumlords (Frank)(2)(22-13, 296.7) - Every year I doubt Frank and every year his team does something like this. TJ McConnell has helped soften the blow of Tim Frazier becoming obsolete.
5. ex. Detroit ex. Pistons (Ceej)(6)(21-14, 271.4) - I once uttered "Ceej is just not very good at this". I guess Ceej MasterFlex is looking to prove me wrong. Every time it seems his team is down for the count, they get up and keep slugging it out.
6. Coney Island Bad Boys VII: Rejuvenated (Dep. Commish)(7)(20-15, 287.1) - The Isle, what locals affectionately refer to the team as, stumbled a bit losing 9 of 10 but have turned it around (7W's in the last 9) to claw back into the race for the Elevator Division. And his secret weapon, Sully, might be back within the month.
7. Theodelphia Theventy-Thixers (Theo)(7)(20-15, 284.1) - This team looked like it had no shot early in the season but with a mid-280's avg, it has as good a shot as any team at winning. Nokic and Giannis are carrying the load while Rondo sits in limbo. If any of his other G's step up, could be VERY dangerous come playoff time.
8. Oakland Cardpullers (Mr.Hood)(3)(19-16, 273.9) - Cruise control Hood has allowed his team to just "be" and you can tell (still has Klay above CJ); sometimes steers straight and other times it swerves all over the road. 4-8 stretch says he's swerving.
9T. Northeast DC Trade Guerillas (Magilla)(9)(18-17, 275.4) - Magilla hit a rough patch with CP3 down (a game of 194 and 200) and has to be doing the happy dance now that he's returned.
9T. Restown Smerf City Slamz (Smerf)(11)(18-17, 275.4) - Trade with ChiESL off to a rocky start with Porzingis down but now that he's back, should see uptick in scores. Team looks solid, that is as long as Bledsoe doesn't go down like he typically does.
11. Cerritos Bad Hombres (Shawn)(15)(15-20, 281.5) - 8-2 in last 10 with 298 avg. Looks like the Hombres have hit their stride. And just in time to make the bet interesting:
Bet #1: Winning 281.5 to 278.4
Bet #2: Winning (2 up, 2 down)
1-Ibaka is gonna be at 1.23 or better (1.16 currently)
2-Lin is gonna be at 1.18 FPPM or better (1.36 currently)
3-Parker is gonna jump .15 fppm to 1.06 FPPM (1.11 currently)
4-AND Jamal Murray is gonna be over 1.00 FPPM (0.81 currently)
Starting slow has allowed Cerritos to become easily the deepest team in the L, Reggie is hitting stride (1.48 in his last 5), picked up Tony Parker at the right time (1.46 in last 5) and Malcolm Brogdon is balling (1.16, 40FPPG in last 5). All without Lin's 1.36 as he's been recovering from a second stint of hammy issues. Shawn's team is a dark horse for the title.
12. Skid Row SoulHonky (SoulHonky)(12)(14-21, 268.2) - C's were hurting with Whiteside's eye injury but now that he's back, only concern is F rotation. Could stand to make a small trade in that arena.
13. Chi.ESL Commissioners (The Commish)(8)(15-20, 278.4) - Has lost 9 of 11 including 7 straight and a couple of close winnable losses and 300 point losses. G's had injury issues and torpedoed potential. Now team is having issues with consistency. Gonna be hard to recapture the magic. And FYI Shawn, I'm down but not enough to trade you Love for Pau...C'mon man.
14. Houston Hardhead Kickdoe CHAMPS (The Champ)(13)(12-23, 271.8) - From champ to worst in the conference. Smh...no wonder he hasn't paid yet.
15. L.A. Major Keys (RBO)(14)(11-24, 269.8) - I got the keys, the keys, the keys.
16. Philadelphia Peasants (TJT)(16)(6-29, 236) - Won a title in his rookie year.
games as too much was going wrong and i had little flex to repair.
Faried and Nurkic getting minutes and noah doing what he supposed to.
Ariza/Gallo giving me decent F minutes at the bottom.
-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
where you pay more towards the pot.
But that would lead to controversy because a guy may trade to make the playoffs but people would argue "he has no shot of winning it all"
Gone through some roster turmoil the last couple of weeks, pretty pleased to still be putting up as many points as I am. Drummond and the guards are all set. Just gotta tinker a bit more with the forwards-- I'll be grateful when Nance returns, as I expect good things from him down the stretch.
poor position in standing to start the season
yes i was able rotate guys 10-13 on waiver wire a bit. But in many if not all those cases I was also the first to pick them up. Someone else coulda been first and just picked them up and I woulda never had the shot.
A big reason for me wanting to trade isnt to necessarily get astronomically better believe it or not. Im okay 50/50ing this trade to create space for some prospects I think will pay off and thus win me the trade down the line. Find them if you can!
And in my fanagling I do miss out from time to time or make even out exchanges. Evidenced in a player liek Tarik Black reaching my projection for him, but now being on another roster
>Im looking at guys like Kris Dunn and Robert Covington
Yeah, I picked up Covington when one of my forwards went down hurt and another was sent to the D-League and I needed the minutes. But you already knew that.
I also know that you understand why I'd be stashing a rookie I believe in, who has logged few if any actual roster minutes for me this season, who is only active right now because of the injury to Nance. He'll be back to my stash position, where he's been nearly all season, once Nance is back. But you knew that too.
You also haven't offered me one of these benevolent depth-for-stud trades that you're so kindly offering to players, which is surprising. Is that because you know I'm too smart to go for anything that wouldn't provide huge risk for you? Or is that because my team is averaging 15+ points per game more than yours? Clearly my team needs the help since Dunn and Covington are "long term active players on my roster" (lulz), so make me an offer.
Your team is actually a case of being redundant with mine.
I have Gobert and your best player is a C only.
The other player I really want is Monroe but given your roster and my FCs you may as well just keep Monroe and you dont need anymore G's
you mentioned Sully I said i'd only move him for a stud like Kahwi.
I didn't say hey, I have an offer that works Kahwi for Sully...here's why it works for you.....followed by 40,000 text messages about how i'm trying to help you at 7 in the morning.
-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
We talked trade yesterday. I know youre just trying to be funny man here, but this was a modification of the offer we had yesterday when we were talking. And I was seriously under the impression you leave the house early to go to work so I figure id catch you on your commute/
this morning, you sent me offers that didn't have anything to do with kahwi. When sully came up, i told you i would only move him for a stud like kahwi.
Yes i was commuting but just repeating 7am sounds better than on my way to work.
Just because you couldve picked him up on the wire 3 weeks ago?
Interesting...
I guess thinking like that makes sense seeing as how last years champ who refused to trade with anyone who was a GOB or in his division won it all.
Sometimes I'm fine gambling on waiver pickups earlier in the season, as they could maintain some nice value, and if I'm scared and that owner's willing to do a buy low as they sell high, then sure, I'd do that.
But at this point in the year? It'd have to be a no-brainer in terms of safety of value, otherwise that player wouldn't still be on waivers. The players in this league are too good generally to drop players of high future value for no reason.
Though he's a rookie, and I would definitely understand rookie skepticism. I'm surprised by the 4 dimes per, as that's more than he ever did in college. Still, if I was in need and had the inclination, that is the type of guy I'd consider targeting (though I've been burned by Kidd's rotation shifts before).
Tony Parker I'd stay away from, just with the inevitable rest coming and the inevitable regression to the mean coming. He hasn't done numbers like his last ten games since, what, four or five seasons ago? I just wouldn't trust that bump to stick at all.
but theres been plenty of the guys on the wire who IMO are better short term and better stashes.
Anyhow when I offer i look to see that for the teams i offer to the guys generally would be upgrades over guys they had on their rosters
for example if I were to make an offer Monroe
itd be something like Speights and Jabari for Monroe
Speights would be a downgrade from Monroe but Jabari would be a F who plays in your lineup even when nance gets back
Last five, Monroe has done more points than Jabari. On fewer minutes played.
Parker and Speights, last five: 64.2 points in 51.8 minutes. 1.24 FPPM average.
Monroe and... let's say Covington, for giggles, last five: 81.9 points in 62.6 minutes. 1.31 FPPM average.
That's using *literally* my worst player as the other forward.
If we used their season total numbers instead of their most recent numbers, the minutes are comparable, and your guys combined average .02 FPPM more than my guys. BUT THAT'S USING THE PLAYER ON MY ROSTER YOU SAID IS UNROSTERABLE, lol.
So holding pat until Nance returns-- who combines with Monroe to average .13 FPPM more than your offer-- makes soooo much more sense. As you know.
It also ignores that Monroe or someone else on the Bucks could be traded and would elevate Monroe's minutes. Which was a big reason I took Monroe in the first place. As you know.
It'd also leave me needing another C, as Drummond does the occasional 25 MPG night, and Speights would leave minutes on the table for me if those games lined up. As you know.
Jabari is a good piece and is having a good season. But I wouldn't deal a guy who's done a steady 1.5 whose minutes are on the rise for a solid 1.1ish piece and a low minute, high FPPM guy. I'd have to be really, really desperate for minutes to make that deal.
The bottom line is that deal is not a bad deal. Its not some super fantasy shit where Im trying to give you back absolutely nothing. All this shit is --is speculation.
Sometimes Im right sometimes im wrong.
Sometimes youre right sometimes youre wrong.
I mean a couple months ago when Jeremy lamb went on a hot streak and Speights was cold, I offered RBO speights for Lamb straight up 1 for 1.
Thank jesus he turned that shit down
To see which owners would do that deal if they were me. I suspect none would.
Of course any trade could turn out any way. I'm not arguing that there's zero chance that deal would benefit me. Monroe could get injured. Or Jordan could go down, spiking Speights's minutes. Or, I don't know, Parker suddenly jumps to 1.35. Weird shit happens.
The point is, at this point in the season, it's waaaaaaay harder for any smart owner to make a trade based on speculation of what could happen in the future, because we've seen these guys for dozens of games, we know their roles, we know their production. I'm not taking a flier on "something may happen" when my team is doing 295+ averages. No smart owner, even with a lower average, would do that unless their team really sucked and they wanted to throw a Hail Mary.
Your best chance for deals like this is closer to the Trade Deadline when roster stability could suddenly change. But again, you know that.
I've had teams with plenty of depth too, and I've tried doing "group for stud" before, selling my risk as "if this currently healthy stud goes down, I'm fucked!" Yeah, but if the stud's on the court, you won-- unless, again, your trade partner is really strapped for quality minutes.
But that's why trades don't happen as much anymore. Most people draft guys they believe in, so they're hesitant once they've seen a lot of results, and most people know how the basic math of the league works, and that depth-for-a-stud *only* works if you need the minutes or if you think you're selling a stud high.
Which i seem to be the only one down to do.
Remember i traded out of the first round.
If someone could offer me a similar but somewhat worse FG for kawhi + something that would play...id consider
I was looking at rosters today. For example, dude who has PG (just checked its soul honky). If he offered PG and had someone who I could play right away above my Gs, Fs, or C id consider it. And even if i didnt take it....I wouldnt sit here and act like it was the shittiest trade the world has ever seen. Id undrstand why it was offered, Id see how it could benefit me but ultimately maybe it doesnt quite work. Maybe I negotiate for a better player, but again I dont act like its some attempt at swindling me lol
Harden + an "unrosterable" guy who does .9 FPPM for 22 minutes per game is still multiple points better than Kawhi + Pau. And that doesn't even factor in the obvious rest games coming up down the stretch for the Spurs.
Look at his Roster. he's immediately able to plug Pau in as his best big with dual Flexibility. I mean for cyring out loud he's holding 4 C only players.
kawhi doesnt replace hardens production but as a G his 1.3 or whatever it is--is still top 10
Or if you want you can move him to F
Then you get a G who over the last 20 is at 1.11 which is pretty respectable for a guy who could be his 3rd G
Is it a slam dunk for him? No. But its not an absolute slam dunk for me either.
I would lose major flexibility and if any of my other Gs and or Fs went down to injury there would be a hole Id have to fill.
Right now with my roster I can pretty much lose a guy at any position and still be in about the same shape save for Kawhi and I value that a lot
I think orphaned minutes are opposite of unused.
They were born and happened but your actual score can't claim or use them: thus orphaned
2-13 projections but still kicking a 285 and rising average.
Meanwhile you better hope RBo doesnt stay hot or there wont be playoffs to come back to.
Of course the last guard to play, the one whose roster spot is locked in for the next six-ish games, is out for potentially that entire stretch of games. So much for my dreams of hitting that 300 season average again. Sigh.
McConnell's "day-to-day," but if he's out for a while, the Sixers are so many games behind in terms of the calendar that it'll really hurt my averages. That was the main point of my post-- I was inching toward that elusive 300 average and now I'll probably drop a few 260s and really hurt my odds.
Well...we've done 1/27 for 2 seasons now I believe (to avoid pointless late season trades).
So to answer your question, yes, it's the league policy (2/23 is the default setting).
And before the sniffling and whining starts (not from you but anyone), 1/27 is 77.5% the way through our season so our trade deadline is actually later than the NBA's.
And no, we won't be changing it this year...we CAN vote on it after the season.
