"Stephen A Smith goes in on Phil Jackson [VIDEO]"

It's extremely early, but I'm not optimistic about the FEEL era. It looks like business as usual. Knick's are letting history repeat itself by: (1) Having a max deal with a star who is getting up there in age and undergoing surgery (2) Having multiple parts (players/staff) that just don't click/fit.

Did anyone think this team would be good in its first year? He has to rebuild literally the entire team (save Melo) from scratch. It will take years.

With cap space, a high pick, and a superstar.

There are worse situations to be in but it hasn't been the disaster that people think it is.

now that the all-star game is over

and Melo is out

what exactly are we mad about?

I really need to be clear

he's injured

he played

season is a wash

probably coulda played if the season meant anything

since it doesn't, keeping fans in the garden for the first part of the season

and the all-star game

isn't that an execs job?

The NYK just dumped every crappy contract they had

and are looking to lock up the #1 pick in the draft

other than Stephen A being the Fox News of sports reporters

what exaclty are we mad about here?

and this is coming from a 6ers fan

the NYK will be in the playoffs next year.

I still say this whole new Feel-led regime won't end well at all even if they land the no.1 pick in the draft

He has cleared cap space and a top 5 pick is pretty much ensured with a real shot at the top pick. Were ya'll expecting a competitive team after the moves this summer basically said we are just trying to clear space for summer 2015...

even the knicks fans in the real world. hardly any booing at games, everyone know theres a plan.
steven a just trolling cause we didnt mortgage future on goran, again.
not sure why starks is posting this.
would been worse if we were near the 8th spot and people panicked and tried to get goran.
this is actually better weirdly.
most fans are with the plan.
next year the fire starts.

How could you not expect for things to be blown up? This team was financially burdened with little real talent on the roster.

They had Melo, JR, Shump, and I was truly under the belief that Amare and maybe even Bargnani would be contract year ballers so they could get another huge deal from someone.

I was wrong.

This team was built to go to the playoffs this year and ended up being terrible enough to contend for a top lottery pick. That's what happens when you:
- Whiff on Steve Kerr and sign Derek Fisher for the same dollar amount. Looking now at the highest paid coaches in the league:
1) Doc Rivers - GM/coach - $10m +
2) Stan Van Gundy - GM/coach - $7m
3) Gregg Popovich - five time champion coach - $6m
4) Steve Kerr/Derek Fisher - first time coaches - $5m
5-30) EVERY OTHER COACH IN THE LEAGUE

I know that money isn't a thing to Dolan but it's just funny that even negotiating with the Knicks gives you a top five salary in the league.

- Trade Tyson Chandler, JR Smith, Iman Shumpert and Pablo Prigioni for Cleanthony Early, Shane Larkin, Giannis' brother, a 2017 second-rounder and a 2019 second-rounder

Would you call that a Zen haul? Remember that Timofey Mozgov and four months of Dragic both netted two first-rounders

- Signed Carmelo Anthony to a $124 million contract to have him end up in "potentially serious" knee surgery four months into said contract

Now, it's not like any of the Knicks moves have been awful in a vacuum. And Dolan wouldn't let Phil not sign Melo, so I won't blame him. But something should still be said when the Knicks only real asset going forward is costing them $24 million this season to go under the knife, they got nothing in return for trading away the core of a team that won 54 games two years ago and their top-5 paid first-year coach is doing so bad trying to instill an antiquated system onto their team that they're on pace to be maybe the worst team in the league.

It's not like he's doing a terrible job. But you can't tell me that if you put Hinkie or Ainge or Morey or RC Buford in this role that they wouldn't have netted something more.

especially what they got for mozgov.
but the point was to get rid or felton and upgrade to jose. you cant forget felton in that equation.
who knew jose and sammy would be this bad. phil should have i guess.
phil got played on his first move.
he admitted as much. he's not even copping pleas.
next year will be step 2. lets see how much patience nyers have, like i said the fire starts next year.

At the time I liked the trade and I think everyone is maligning it in hindsight. It definitely didn't work out but there are a few things
- it was done on draft day so we were happy to actually get a semi-decent pick in the draft
- kicking out felton was huge
- jose seemed like a fine point guard (and probably still is on a coherent basketball team)
- tyson chandler was at his lowest possible trade value and i certainly didn't know how much he had left in the tank. i thought he was done and it was just better to just extract whatever value we could from him, and if we could dump felton and get a competent pg also, sounds like a coup

the thing is that (and this has been repeated in the jr/iman trade),
a player on the knicks is basically at his worst possible trade value. so the knicks will never really get a good deal for a player just because he has looked not great for a while

i mean, did anyone doubt that jr would be fine for the cavs? he was so bad for us that fans were going to any ends to dump him. but if jr were to be hypothetically traded from the cavs today, you can bet that he would net a higher value (as would iman, who jr was basically a salary dump for, as would tyson).

so the knicks obviously have that working against him, although phil isn't blameless in that matter as he did, y'know, hire the head coach

i just don't see anything that phil has done that an average-below average gm couldn't have done in the past year. and i think you know that, and that everyone knows that. and this offseason and forward is obviously his 'true test'.

but he hasn't shown a single sign that he can be even an above-average gm. he hasn't shown complete incompetence, but he certainly hasn't shown any 'greatness'.

Tyson was expiring. There was no reason to take him on for more contracts. Calderon is a decent pg but his value is even less if you are gonna run the triangle.

already locked in their superstar
with another one on the way potentially (okafor?)
cap room
and it's a destination location for big FA
if i had to put money on it i'd wager NYK will win a chip or be competitive before the sixers (or who ever ppl think is rebuilding correctly now days)

Doesn't make what happened this year or last year any less embarrassing but we are still in a great position. Feel has made some mistakes (tyson trade) but we have all the things you mentioned.

Assuming Melo's health, his max deal ain't even gonna be that bad when the cap goes close to 90mil. Hell, dragic about to get 5 mil less per year than Melo.

We have a star, we have a top 3 pick, we have cap space no one but Melo signed long term.

thats the only reason Feel or Melo are there and the idiocy/instability of the organization from the top clown on down will ensure they ain't going nowhere.

Feel got paid 12 mill this year to hire an overmatched neophyte coach and make below-market trades, yet gets the benefit of the doubt despite never actually assembling a roster and logging into GoToMeeting from a porch in Montana or Jeanie's spot in Playa Del Rey.

If he was trying to take the job seriously he woulda figured out something to do with Carmelo last summer.

And I owe Sixer fans an apology. They warned everyone about Billy King...I'm not even a Nets fan, but damn
