Last night I kept trying to fish and I had my pole I had bait but either I couldn’t find the water and people kept directing me to a different place and I still never could get to the water. Or I’d be in a setting where I was drinking a big house party and I couldn’t find my car. I was always searching for something that I couldn’t find. I hate those dreams because I wake up feeling weird cause I spent so much time looking and it was just a dream.

Funny thing is yesterday while at yoga the instructor said the best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up. That shit hit me deep. That’s a Muhammad Ali quote. Never heard it before last night tho.

yeah the dreams are among the first things to really pick up.. I also found that not drinking and such the whole getting tired naturally thing at night is a very different feeling too... I don't tend to get hungover when I drink but it does mess my sleep up pretty bad I toss and turn all night make every hour.

the most useful thing i've learned about quitting (quit drinking and nicotine with zero outside help) is that craving/urges/desires always eventually pass. they feel interminable but generally go away in 20-30 minutes. just do something else when you feel like having a drink. try to be mindful about how addiction (i hope i'm not assuming too much here) works and changes your brain chemistry. if you know you want a drink because your brain is in an abnormal state and sending you signals to drink then you can acknowledge that as an aberration and let those thoughts pass without incident

it takes way more work to quit, relapse, and then start the quitting process over than it does to just quit. time is an increasingly precious resource. don't waste time backsliding and then having to start the process over again. just do it once and be done with it!

magnesium powder is good for sleeping or relaxing at the end of a long day.
its the shit: https://www.amazon.com/Natural-Vitality-Magnesium-Stress-Original/dp/B000OQ2DL4

HOWEVER

if you want to take it to the next level then I recommend kava. its a step above having a few beers but a step below a joint. it's an ancient pacific island root based drink that will chill you the fuck out.

I dont even like alcohol anymore, this is the jam.

try this:
https://www.bulakavahouse.com/collections/instant-kava

I would reccomend kratom but I'm anti that shit now that people are acting like total fucking fools.

I saw it could cause liver damage. Which wouldn’t work cause I’m not sure if my liver is already susceptible to damage from years of hard drinking.

Instant is easier.

Its a pain in the ass to make, trust me, I have tried, it takes forever. Some people love the process of kneading a bag forever but I'm off that. Instant, you just dump a scoop into water and stir.

The liver damage thing is when you use stuff thats not matured, it takes 4 years to grow and the stuff that causes liver damage is made from roots that were only grown a year - further, you WILL know it if you have the shitty stuff because it will make you feel like shit and have a two day hangover. The testing that lead to liver damage findings were all done using bad kava.

BUT, if you do kava it is not reccomended that you drink at the same time because its hard on your liver if alcohol and kava are combined AND kava is an alcohol potentiator so it will make 1 drink feel like 4 and 3 drinks feel like 15.

The place I linked is trusted and their product is tested.

Then maybe try to add the weekends to it? Just a suggestion.

I'm no teetotaler. I drink pretty regularly but I generally avoid drinking during the week. That's no hard & fast rule. Every so often, there's a special occasion or I just may want something during the week. But I'm pretty good about not going at it hard on "school nights."

Anyway...good luck.

So obviously I had a bad night. Drank too much and had to get a very unpleasant lecture from my parents. They love me. They know I’m not good with drinking. People that are close to me say I change into a different person when I drink. I’m tired of hearing about it and have decided to change. So

Today I feel like shit. Stomach all tore up. Today will be an easy day to not drink because I don’t feel well because of drinking too much last night.

I’m going to post about the 7 days honestly here. I already have three times this week where I know I will be around alcohol so I’m mentally preparing to restrain myself from taking the bait.

Sure, you may not have a serious problem, but there's nothing wrong with getting an evaluation to help you know where you stand and what actions you can take to help knock this issue out.

I think it requires replacing drinking with something that is incompatible with drinking.

The easiest to recommend is exercise. First couple of weeks you will hate both, exercise and not drinking.

But eventually you turn a corner and you reach a point where you don't want to drink because it will interfere with your exercise.

Banuary works for me because it's a finite period of time. 1 month without drinking, let me prove it to myself and others.

By third week every time my skin clears up, drop a few LBs and I have a ton of energy which is motivation to do it longer.

A lot of drinking is from habit I think. Got to change the routine to live the dream.

My habit is getting a drink. Especially a strong drink when I have a few hours to myself. What happened the other day was I was out dropping off kids and running errands and was done by 10am. So I made the decision to go to the abc store and get a bottle of vodka. Not too big not too small. And then I went home sat in my driveway and listened to music and drank said vodka. I had 5 hours before I had to do anything and I figured that was plenty of time to do me and sober up. It wasn’t. When my so. Got off the bus I was tired. I worked with him on homework and then fed him but was ready to lay down. Three hours later I went to get my other son from daycare and fed him. I was ready to lay down but they weren’t. They were full of energy (of course) and I was tired emotionally and physically. My parents came home and saw how messy the house was and saw my face and knew what was up. I don’t let the house get messy unless I’m too tired to stay on top of my kids.

Now I say this is a habit but it doesn’t always involve vodka. It may just be a few beer but in a shorter time frame.

It may be wine late at night after I put the kids to bed. But that’s when I want to drink when I can be alone and have a break in responsibility.

I guess I have to remember as a parent a few hours is not a break for drinking. I never get a break from responsibility cause anything can happen. But the thought of that makes me want to drink.

Waking up feeling like shit and using that as motivation is hard to maintain

We usually don’t want to drink while we are recovering but as soon as we feel better..

One day at a time tho.

You living with your parents and getting it in?

2 weekends ago, I went hard with my young nephew (he's 27 and 6'7) for 4 days straight. I told myself that I just can't do that to myself the next few weekends. I just need to stay away from everything...beer, wine, liquor, whatever.

Nah, me & the little lady went for a few sips at the neighborhood hipster spot. She has some friends coming into town this weekend and we're all gonna meet at a brewery. *Kanyeshrug*

It breaks my heart to see people struggle with any kind of substance or addiction, no matter how slight it may appear.

i'm not with it

even with AA or god on your side the crux of battle between an individual and addiction lies with the individual. they need to make the choice to quit and actually quit (willpower), then stay sober (discipline). god doesn't quit for you. the people in AA won't quit for you. neither will keep you sober. it's all on the individual to quit and stay the course. i think there is some value in having some kind of support system but it's not at all necessary

>able to quit and maintain on their own. Two things are gonna
>need to be options; A supportive sobriety program or a Super

In response to Reply # 28

The willpower is needed, the self-determination is needed, the desire is needed, motivation is needed. But the support is needed too, especially when the person needs the will of a community to help them make it to the next day or hour. I also know first hand what addiction can do to a person and family, and I know what works when it comes to helping a person break that deadly chain. SP, save all the rah, rah. I'm not minimizing anything.

support systems can be vital for some people. nothing wrong with that. i took umbrage with your assertion that quitting cannot be done without AA or god. i don't think that's the case. it seems like AA and/or god assistance is something you witnessed and that helped shape your opinion

BUT

he also confessed he almost burned the house down a good 5 to 6 times passing out.

But, on the real that's great. I'm glad things turned around for the better. Alcoholism is a serious disease that has taken many folks out in life. Many who survive and are able to get free have to always be mindful of the possibility to be overtaken again.

Thing is I don’t want to never have a drink again. I just want to. E able to have a drink and then stop. It’s weird. I’m not a social drinker. When I’m out in public I may have one drink. It’s when I’m at home and alone that I will drink till I can’t drink anymore. Then I just want to sleep.

and a lot of folks used to say drinking by yourself is a clear sign you got a problem. I don’t buy that type of thinking but my concern is the kids.

Let’s say your kid gets sick and you have to go to the hospital at 4AM????

Can you drive them?

This is a question I have posed to myself which slowed down my intake a bit. Nothing wrong with having one or 2 after work but getting to the point where you can’t function if needed is a great reason to slow down.

Also, I think you may need help with this, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

60. "Yes that is exactly why I preferred drinking at home"
In response to Reply # 47

I don’t want to spend excess money. Don’t want to embarrass myself. Don’t want a dui or worse hurt someone by being intoxicated driving.

And I realize that anything could happen anytime of the day so it’s not a good idea to over drink especially on a normal basis.

Which is why my goal is to drink much much less. Take a break and then learn how to be a person that can have a drink a beer or a glass of wine without drinking the whole bottle or six pack.

The other day when I drank it was at 10:30am and I had a bottle of vodka. A fifth I believe. By 11:30 the bottle was gone. The rest of the day was my body dealing with that much alcohol in such a short amount of time.

However when I’m out with people I may have two beer or one mixed drink that I sip on.

The goal is to get to that point alone. To be able to have a bar at my house one day and not drink it all up in one day because it’s there.

I know that will take time and the first step is to just stop for a while and let my body and brain heal and get focused. From there I can figure out if it’s even worth trying to occasionally drink or just abstain

weekends, and when I do, it's much less than I used to

If you can, pick up something physically demanding during the week that requires your body and mind to be sharp and healthy. The rewards you get from that will be much richer than those you feel when you're drinking. As you know, habits are developed over time. so the more weeks go by where you are drinking only 3 days of the week, the more it will be easy to maintain the habit longer term.

I struggle myself but I've cut down significantly over the last 3 - 5 years. Still more work to do and far from perfect, but it's a never-ending battle.

...except I don't drink every week, mostly when the children are visiting their grandparents or whatever. That said, when I drink nowadays, I *drink*...

I realized I had a problem sometime in the mid-00's when I had been partying for more than one week straight and after saying bye to a visiting friend, I felt the urgent need for some alcohol in spite of already drinking much of the day. This scared me and made me buy a Sprite instead. For some reason, I've always felt that Sprite saved me from going full-blown alcoholic because I would have crossed the "habit becomes necessity"-line had I bought some alcohol instead.

I was taking down anywhere from a full 6 pack/bottle of wine to the head each night for a long time

I got caught up in the San Francisco peter pan lifestyle where living in a bar was just a part of life.

These days, I only like to drink beer when I cook on sundays and I find alcohol boring.

It's really amazing how everyday that goes by without a drink you wake up feeling more and more refreshed, positive, and focused.

For me, it just happens to reset on Friday night lol. But usually I'm at home with a wife that doesn't drink, so I don't get carried away.

I still like to day drink, drink craft beer, and socialize when I drink, but hangovers are basically unbearable now.

A good amount of my older coworkers drink on a few occasions during the week, but I get you about the Peter Pan lifestyle. NYC is similar to SF in that regard. Just endless bar / restaurant culture.

What's helped change my settings is meeting a ton of people who don't or barely drink.

In response to Reply # 0

Was super busy. Woke up and did the mama thing and went to work and was busy all day. I usually work short shifts but I worked a full 8 hours today. Then I met a friend at a restaurant and talked and ate. He had a margarita and a beer. I had water and tea. So I felt good about that. I came home and started doing self care. Soaked my feet. Put on a face mask started looking at cnn. This hickenlooper guy seems pretty cool.

I am off the next two days so this will be a challenge as alone time is when I tend to binge drink. I plan to do a yoga class and tai chi class tomorrow morning then sit in the sauna. Cook and then take my son to a tutor and then to soccer practice and then go home and chill.

Day 3 should be interesting. I’ll probably be posting a bit to stay focused. May drink some lava tea if I have a craving.

Woke up and got my son ready and laid down for a bit before getting my other son ready for daycare. I thought I should keep my youngest with me today and just take him with me to the Ymca when I did my classes. But my body is tired today and I really just want to sleep. The classes are early. So I was just going to keep my son with me and lay down. He wouldn’t lay down and started getting up and messing with stuff while I was halfway sleep. So I got up and took him to daycare. I’m back home and in the bed. I’m going to sleep for a while. That’s one way I know I won’t drink. Then I plan to get up and clean and then go to the y to work out and get in the sauna and prepare for my mama filled evening.

This is the plan

I am not sure why I’m so tired and irritable but as long as I don’t drink today I’ll feel like I’ve accomplished something.

My dreams were weird as fuck too but I’m not sure why my head is throbbing like this. Back of my head. I was listening to music as I slept. The same healing music I’ve been listening to for a week or so that usually helps me.

I recently got into music with frequencies that were meant for healing and affecting different chakras and areas of the body. I think that along with starting yoga and exercise has helped me get to this point of being able to seriously try to stop drinking and have alternative things to do in its place.

Anyway today is the first day that I have a headache and I didn’t have a headache before I went to sleep. The music today was focused on the pineal gland and earth resonance. Interesting.

I can’t remember my dreams but know there was conflict.

My sons soccer practice was canceled tonight dude to rain so I will go to a yoga class tonight instead since I didn’t make the one this morning.

there will be more physical and mental discomfort than you're used to but it's only that. it's not life-threatening or debilitating. you can power through it. remember to be mindful of how addiction works. your body and mind want alcohol because you're accustomed to having it in your system. you're going to receive some weird signals from both body and mind but as long as you recognize those signals for what they are you can safely ignore them

just stay busy but don't think of filling that time as replacing drinking. you just have extra time to do stuff now since you're no longer using that time drinking and recovering. it's like getting an extra x hours/week. keep posting about it if it helps. part of beating addiction is processing the battle as it happens. it's a major change for anyone and expressing your feelings can only help you. there's no judgment here so post away when you're feeling doubtful, confident, scared, etc.

if you can find the bolthouse rainbow carrots:

https://www.bolthouse.com/product/organic-rainbow-baby-carrot/

they're amazing when halved lengthwise and sauteed with EVOO, salt, pepper, and a little spanish paprika, over medium heat for a good 10-15 minutes. they get a nice caramelization and some great deep flavor as a result

I just have regular carrots and they were yum. Gave me life but I’m going to pick up the rainbow carrots next time I’m at the store.

Yoga was great. My poses were better and my body felt a lot stronger and centered. Even the yoga instructor said so. And the sauna was amazing. I stayed in for 20 min today and I was sweating like a mug. I felt a lot more focused afterwards and didn’t have a lot of anxiety. And I just ate some turkey wings and spinach I cooked along with more carrots. I freaking love carrots. Lol. Drinking water and sunny D

About to get ready for bed. Tomorrow is another day!

I have a massage scheduled at 10:30 but the girl told me to bring wine. 😳. That’s kind of our ritual. I was like not this time tho. I’m not worried about drinking too much there I just don’t want to break this momentum. So maybe next time. Maybe. But it should be fun. The. Later I’m going to a movie with a friend. Gotta see if this US movie is as good as people say.

Then I’m gonna get some lovin’.

So it should be a good day. Hardest part will be the beginning.

Is deciding when or if I will eliminate alcohol completely or only when I’m alone.

I have had a terrible problem with drinking daily alone. Not much of a problem at all with having a drink socially. But I’m not social. Lol.

I think I’ll be safer just refraining altogether. But I seem to be becoming more social since I’ve stopped drinking alone. So we will see. My focus is the seven days right now. And paying attention to how my body feels.

Health wise I feel like a longer break is best. To truly see how my body benefits from no alcohol at all

Very eventful. I’m just getting home and it’s 1:30am. I left home at 10:30 am. My massage was great. I also have a massage (we do trades) and she surprised me with a sister crab broil lunch with her mom and two homegirls. I then went to see a friend and we saw Us. Talked afterwards and then I came home. Good day.

...and YES, it does get easier.

Granted I still am 420 friendly and I'm sure that has helped as well.

I'm also entering day 3 of a toxin cleanse..1 Gallon of water a day with a 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, juice from 3-key lime/organic lime or regular limes.
Drink one gallon of water with this concontion for 5 days.

You don't fast and you still eat. Supposed to help cleanse toxins without you starving yourself if you are considering a master cleanse down the road. This gives you an idea of what to look forward to.

I have to mention that I also meditate DAILY for at least 20 minutes and have been doing so for the last 4 or 5 years now. I refuse to leave the house without getting my 20 minutes in.

I wish you nothing but the best and strength in your journey as I now see how hard it can be for someone to quit drinking as I continue to make progress everyday.

Been a long struggle and i spent the first year re-learning what it is like to not have my main focus of the day be getting black out drunk. My goal next is to find something that i enjoy as much as i did getting fucked up. I changed the industry i work in and no longer live with roommates so i have my own space when i am having stressful days. Good luck with your journey, if you need any support feel free to inbox.

My left side hurts.

I’m not going to stress it but I’m taking note.

Took my son to soccer this morning. That was cool. Wanted to work out but needed to come home and clean so that’s my mission. My space is junky and unorganized. I’m sure that’s a reflection of my mind so I am handling that today. Then I work at 4:30. I was invited to a birthday party tonight but I’m sure I won’t attend because I know there will be nothing but drinks there and I will be very tempted. Don’t want to backslide now.

Pray for me cause I know I’m going to get calls to come since they doing karaoke.

And I’m like fuck it. I did good and I’m gonna do good. I had a drink or two but I didn’t binge drink like I could have. I’m not a failure. I still have time to turn this around. So I got food to cook. My son will be off the bus in two hours. He has tutoring and I’m gonna make sure he gets that. I’m also not going to drink anything else. I don’t feel drunk as much as I feel disappointed. But I’m just going to stop. I got one drink and I drank it. Usually I’d say fuck it and keep drinking. It was a strong drink tho y’all. I’m literally drunk as I type. But I’m also cleaning chicken. Also knowing I gotta get my boy off the bus I. Tow. Hours. Trying to tell myself not to lay down cause I don’t want to miss him Intwo hours. I’ve missed him before. Like literally been asleep when the bus came. Not just cause of alcohol but just been sleep trying not to drink. This is in the past tho. Not this week. But I’m saying tho. I’m conflicted. Crying my eyes out while cleaning chicken thinking about the do you clean your meat post. Lol. I feel like I’m gone be ok. But I’m still mad at myself.

anyway be disappointed but don't beat yourself up or be miserable you honestly killed it over the last week.

I am telling myself it’s ok. It’s ok. I’ve started like one argument with a person I care about so I already fucked that up. But I still gotta get my boy off the bus. I still got tutoring for him. I still did great up to this point. So I’m not going to say fuck it I failed just drink myself to oblivion. Even tho I really want to. What I really want to do is to lay down. But if I do I know I’ll fuck a lot more shit up. So I’m going to just not drink not go to sleep and not beat myself up.

Damn it.

I want to go to sleep. That way I k ow I won’t fuck anything else up. But I can’t. These kids and this life is a whole nother responsibility that I have to face. I have to think about them. And I am literally crying posting this.

Damn it.

I learned a lot this week. And although a part of me wants to sulk in defeat another part is like shake it off. Appreciate the progress you did make and set a goal for a longer timeframe. Still get up and hit the gym for yoga. Make something good to eat. Keep my room clean. Read. Focus on my body and how it feels this morning from the alcohol compared to how good I’ve felt the last 6 days without it. Yesterday was awful. I really wish I could have a do over. But today is another opportunity. I swear I want to go to school for substance abuse counseling. I think that will be a great accomplishment for me since I see firsthand what a person deals with. And my massage therapy degree is a great foundation. I really want to help people the way I’ve been helped. But first I have to heal and help myself.

addiction is strong. it takes a lot of effort to overcome it. many people who are addicted can't. i beat alcohol and nicotine and still struggle with sugar and caffeine.

do you know why you drink? like what the underlying cause is. the constant in your life that pushes you to the bottle. have you talked to a professional about it? ruminated on it?

it's ok to get sad. don't beat yourself up for it though. it doesn't accomplish anything, takes up valuable time, and you feel bad when it happens. why do it?

My son accidentally broke the glass table we eat on. I’m at my parents so it there table.
I’ve made a mess of the tmrelationship I thought I had with a dude. And now I’m just ready to sleep.

None of this would have happened if I just didn’t drink.

This is part of the reason why I drink because everything hinges on me. But yeah. I just can’t anymore

I see why people take themselves out. This is way too much pressure for one person

The table didn’t break because you had a drink.

Kids break stuff. It happens.

But I really think you need to see someone because it sounds like any speed bump in life is a reason to drink.

I was going to right more but I think you know what you need to do, it’s just up to you to do it

Also if you have drinks in the house you may want to remove them.

My mom is anti drinking and has been since I was little which is why as an adult I want to drink. But yeah. I am literally posting with foggy glasses on. My kids are in the bed. My dad is home. I’m in my room feeling like shit. Looking out my window which has a pond in the backyard. I feel privileged cause they are like we can just buy a new table but naw I feel like this is my fault. I wouldn’t tell them that tho. I know I didn’t. Break the table. But maybe just maybe if I would have made different choices the table would be In tact. My mom came I. My room this morning and told me how proud she was of me today. I feel like a complete failure now. And it wasn’t even my fault. If I hadn’t had a drink I think I’d feel different. Seven more days are needed. Smh. I’m not going to blow this post up each day but yeah. This is all my fault.

and the fact that you regret the slip rather than embraced it is no less huge imo... get a good nights sleep.. keep your head on consider what folks say about seeking live help... you main goal is to not be held captive by it and 6 out of 7 demonstrates the strength to do just that.. one moment of self sabotage is not the unraveling and destruction of that strength.

I got money on the fact that your parents love you and want nothing more than for you to be where you'd like to be and while guilt is a largely unavoidable dynamic it isn't the core of these relationships and more than often is larger in imagination than reality.

of people who've been through the struggle you are in. there are meetings pretty much everywhere.

getting around supportive people in real life is your best bet, but in the meantime there are a lot of online communities out there that can help. okp is fine but i encourage you to check in with a community focused on quitting drinking. check out this subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/stopdrinking/

you can do this. it's important you make clear to the people in your life that you have a goal to quit alcohol. so your friend with the massage and wine, break it down for her that you're trying a month alcohol free or some shit. tell people it's a diet thing, whatever. lots of people are quitting alcohol these days for health reasons, etc so you don't need to necessarily to stigmatize yourself with a label like alcoholic to everyone you bring up not drinking with. you can tell people "hey i went a week without a sip and i felt great so i figured why start again now". just start stringing those days together. 3 weeks-month without a drink and things generally start to get a lot easier. the beginning is by far the hardest. you've made some good attempts, time to try again. and again, it is a good idea to get talking with people who've been through the lows you're feeling now and have emerged sober and stronger people for it. do it for yourself, do it for your son. best of luck.

You have years of posts documenting your issues of alcohol to the point where you could not stop drinking to finish a course of antibiotics. You are talking about how you can see how people end it all in this post. No one here can advise you because no one knows what the effect of stopping alcohol will have in your situation because no one here knows your situation. You need to seek help and talk to your doctor.

Please go seek help for yourself and your children.

The fact she is drinking and sleeping thru pick up from the bus stop is triggering.

That is shit my Dad used to do. I resented him for years for being too drunk to parent.

If you can’t stop to don a do medical test you definitely need help outside the home.

I guess because my end goal isn’t to stop drinking completely. Just in moderation and responsibly. Maybe that’s what all alcohol abusers/bingers think. Lol. I want to dig into the root of why I drink heavily when I do drink. I want to make lifestyle changes. But yeah I’ll consider aa

Honestly the lifestyle changes (each and every one) helps me through each day.

I am starting to not even want alcohol even when it’s right in front of me. Not sure if it’s cause I’m dead set on reaching my 7 days or not but that’s how I’m feeling right now. I hope I feel the same way Tuesday! People have been saying you can go a year or years without drinking then have one drink and start binge drinking again because of your mindset. So I really want to work on my mindset. But part of that is the will and ability to set a goal and meet it. I’ve failed at this 7 day thing a few times so getting through it successfully really is my step 1.

So during the day I have gone to the gym. Tai chi was interesting. My first time trying it. I see a lot of helpful things in it. I am going to utilize it and practice it with my oldest son. He is 6 and is special needs. He has something called dyspraxia and severe adhd. It’s a coordination disorder that is neurological. It consumes me with sadness but I am working with him and believe he will be just fine. Tai chi helps with balance so I’m going to study up on it and try it with him.

I also went to eat. I haven’t been eating a lot lately. I’ve been eating more for fuel so only when I’m so hungry I have to eat. But I went to get Chinese and ate inside. I never do that but I figured I’d just sit down somewhere other than my house or car and eat.

I’m about to take a nap for an hour and listen to hz frequency music then wake up and get ready for work. My sitter will be here in about two hours to get my son off the bus.

Then I’ll work and go get my kids and come home and bathe them and put them to bed. I’ll probably read some this evening as well. And that will be my day 1.

little things that change the routine like going in and sitting down for the meal... they make a big difference.. I find my world and circle gets very tight and limited when I am stuck in my ruts... exercises like this are almost never my impulse but feel so excellent in moments and times like these.... finding and taking little pleasures.

I tried tai chi and would like to get back to it maybe.. I found I got stuck pretty early on in the moves one where you had to do something like cross your right leg behind your left and then bend both knees.. for the life of me I couldn't do it.. and we're talking maybe a dozen moves in or something...

for me the workout is coming.. not today... maybe next week..unless I get stir crazy and need to bring it on quick.

I won't lie... I've already had thoughts of temptation and failing when I get home.. but I won't. you slaughtered me at this last week.. this week I'm going to try and do at least as well as you did.

So I’m about to sauté some carrots. And yes it does suck. My stomach is still messed up from yesterday so I’m ok with not drinking today. No cravings other than habit. But my mind is set on going seven days strong. The good thing is I am not off again until Monday. So that will keep me busy. But it will still be a challenge.

I didn’t realize how much I had to drink yesterday until I saw the trash can today. Made sense why my tummy is messed up

1 tall can of modelo
A small (not miniature) bottle of lime twisted gin 🤷🏽‍♀️
And one of those cartons of red wine that look small but equate to like three glasses

Those things should not be mixed but I felt so bad after the modelo and gin that I just bought wine cause I wanted something more and didn’t want more gin or beer.

Not cool. But that explains why my stomach was doing backflips today.

Usually I get one thing and stick with it. Maybe two. But not all three. Geesh!!!

I ended up in a 5 year relationship with a guy who was an alcoholic. He literally taught me how to drink the way he did. Wake up and drink. So for years this is what I saw as normal. We lived together for the whole 5 years. When I left him I didn’t leave that mentality behind. It’s more of a bad habit that has gotten worse over time. It’s rarely fun and almost never beneficial. But I keep going back to it. Most people don’t know I drink like that because I drink alone most of the time. I often feel secluded and disconnected from the world. I have given up a lot on my dreams but long to get motivated again. Things stress me easily. For all of these reasons I am choosing to work towards a new way of life. A total change.

Thanks for the well wishes.

In response to Reply # 0

I am working normal people hours today. 9:30-5.
My son had tutoring afterwards and then there is a kids fit class at the ymca afterward

Today is the birthday of a guy that I dated for 5 years. He was the one who showed me how to drink daily. He died. About four years or so after we split up. I didn’t go to the funeral. He was such a huge part of my young adult life and is I’m edded into my psyche. Most of the music I recorded early on was with him. Looking back amongst other things I think I should have gone to his funeral. Closure never really happened. I loved him tho. Wish I knew how much he needed help. I was more of a fan/admirer of him than a partner. Balance was off. I totally forgot about his birthday until about 30 min ago.

I also told a really good friend currently in my life that I needed space from him recently. He is giving me space but isn’t happy about it. I want to deal with my emotions alone. I think I need to feel whatever I feel truly alone and truly sober. I want to feel inspired to write out my feelings sing my feelings feel my feelings. Alone and sober.

So yeah that’s me emotionally today. Physically and mentally I feel focus motivated and strong.

A bit grumpy with my coworkers and customers. I shouldn’t have said anything in that other post about my friend because up until now I had left emotion out of it. But hey I did say earlier I just have to deal with everything. Feelings and thoughts all sober minded. I just went on lunch and had an urge to go to ruby Tuesdays for a salad and hit up the bar for a shot. But I didn’t of course. I got Chinese food and a Pepsi.

But yes we can do this!!! It’s just 6 more days. Well for me I hope longer.

Tutoring times got messed up so that’s not going to happen. I realized I’m kinda broke till Friday and forgot to take food out the freezer and my kids are hungry. And I’ve way to emotional today thinking about relationship/or lack thereof stuff. So I really just want to curl up in the bed and sleep. But I can’t. Got kids to feed. I think I will still hit up the gym after I find something cheap and unhealthy but fast to feed my boys. Lol

Life doesn’t stop just cause I’m dealing with addictions

Also my stomach is hurting. It started a few days ago. Not sure what it is but I do know that I should expect some physical things for a while so I’m just going to monitor it. All these things would usually be more than enough reason for me to get a drink. But I feel stronger today. Still having cravings tho.

I just finished a salad. Had a strong craving for a drink but funny thing is I drank a glass of milk and it helped. I’m not a fan of milk but it was there. Lol. My body is still adjusting to the absence of alcohol and I do plan to go to a doctor in about a month to get checked for any damage I may have done from years of drinking. I had a conversation with my friend and explained how I felt. He told me how he felt. And I think we both got some closure.

Nothing went as planned today but the day wasn’t bad. Some great moments some blah moments but all sober moments so I feel accomplished. About to lay it down. I feel like sleeping with my kids tonight. At least for a little while. They are my world.

In response to Reply # 0

I know I've cut back on alcohol for weight reasons more than anything. It's not like a drink a lot but that beer you drink while making or eating dinner does catch up.

I found the main reason I was drinking a brew during this time is because water doesn't go with everything. So I got into drinking kombucha.

Now, I know I'm lucky that I have a local company that makes it and has a kombucha tap room. They also have a network where I can get growler fills. Two growlers last me a week.

Just a thought, I know kombucha is not for everyone.

Good luck!

My dreams were wild and deep. Did not want to get up. But I had to. Got my sons together. Headed to the gym for yoga. I usually go in the evening but I work tonight soo went to the day class which has a different teacher. She was the same lady that taught tai chi on Tuesday. Let me tell you her yoga class was much more intense. I feel very elongated. The stretches were deep and difficult at times but I feel great. I’m in the sauna now. Probably should stop taking my phone in here. But yeah. Anyways I feel good. The teacher said a quote. Yesterday is history tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift that’s why they call it the present. I love that. It means don’t think about past failures. DOnt worry about tomorrow’s goals but live in the moment and appreciate every part of it. Well that’s what it means to me. And I like that because it take so the pressure off of everything. I gotta work today 8 hours. That’s normal people hours. Lol. I’m used to 4-6 but working keeps me from having idle time and right now that’s helpful.

do you still need to replace the table? I have a really nice Ikea round table that expands to an oval. I will be in Richmond next week taking care of my parents, I can bring the table down for you. My better half and I are in the middle of downsizing.

I have a storage unit for when I move so I can definitely take it off your hands. I live about 30 miles or less south of Richmond so I can get a truck up there to get it if it’s not an inconvenience for you at all. Either way thanks for the offer.

So last night I got home from work very tired. Feet cold. Hangry. And I was about to put my boys to bed and eat when my mom tells me she wants me to hear a song. I grudgingly said ok cause I just wanted to eat and go to bed but I wanted to also spend some time with her so I put the kids to sleep. Changed out of my work clothes and went downstairs to see her.
I told her my feet were cold and she offered to rub them for me. Which I thought was awesome. She did an awesome job too.

But while she rubbed them she played a song

https://youtu.be/KwYJv455Zmk

Then she played this video

https://youtu.be/fip_qKbYdCI

We discussed how beautiful and heartfelt/anointed the young lady’s voice was. I had never heard her or of her before. Then she tells me her story and shows me a few episodes of iylana where the young lady was on there dealing with alcohol abuse and addiction. https://youtu.be/5ndmjaxMEFg

She would stop at some points and talk to me. Telling me I’m not just like this woman but I have exhibited some of the behaviors and the whole thing opened a discussion about my drinking. We talked for about 2 hours. This is the longest I’ve talked to about my mom about my drinking or drinking period while I was totally sober. She was saying things and I was thinking yeah I know this I’m working on that. But I also know that it was therapeutic for her to talk to me just like it was confirmation for me to listen and talk back to her.

I went to sleep thinking damn. My family really loves me.

It’s a good feeling.

This morning I’m a little tired still and my left side is hurting. Some times it hurts more than others. I also am disappointed cause my check was short today. But I’m not going to let things worry me. I know I’ll be ok money wise and I also know I need to drink more water and continue not drinking and just set a doctors appointment in the near future. I’m just taking note of how my body is feeling.

Damn that song is really deep tho. Self sabotage.

And it only got hard at 9pm when I clocked out from work and drove past my neighborhood gas station. I wanted to turn right and get me something. A beer or some wine. But I kept straight. It was very symbolic. Once I got home I turned on my fire stick and put on YouTube videos of tai chi and laid in the bed. That instantly calmed me. My kids came in my room and started trying to do the tai chi moves they saw on tv and that warmed my heart. And then I knew I had made the best decision ever and stopped thinking about alcohol all together.

Today is my day 5.

The weather will be beautiful here. Almost 80 degrees and sunny. And I work 9:30-1:30 so I’ll have the afternoon to enjoy it with my kids.

But I’ve been listening to hz frequency music this week while I sleep. That music is helping me throughout the day too. So I’ve always had vivid dreams. I used to drink so I’d sleep harder and not have dreams. So not drinking allows me to have vivid dreams again and multiple dreams. I’ve been able to journal them. The music is beneficial to the body. I learned about hz frequency music in massage therapy school.

This morning/last night I dreamed about worms, water, doors and holes in floors. I also dreamed about singing for people. But refusing to face them while I sang. All I had was a piano and it wasn’t used for most songs. Just me singing a capella and not facing the people most times.

My dream last night/this morning was interesting. It ended with a worm coming out of my body. And the worm was long and was still alive. I put it on a table to look at it and it kept moving making a triangle tower shape. My children tried to touch it but I stopped them. That is how the dream ended. Before that I was walking with some fans s. I had just finished singing and they had to go to the bathroom. So did I. We were on some kind of island. We opened some doors to see the sea and there was an area to use the bathroom there. There was one area where there was a hole in the ground in front of the toilet. You had to take notice or you would fall in. Before that I had just finished singing. In a space where there were many rooms but the stage was the center. So I could turn one way and only see people in a certain room and not the other rooms or I could go into a room and not see the people in the other rooms. How Weber the microphone gave sound to each room. I was not trying to focus on any particular room or any particular person. I didn’t want to be seen just heard. I didn’t want a plan or a show for what and how I was going to sing. My mom was there. A piano player was there. I sang most songs a capella. I rarely faced anyone and kept changing rooms as I sang.

I felt so bad last Monday when I drank. So now tomorrow will be here soo. And I’ll have to make a choice. I think I will choose well cause I really have no reason to drink tomorrow. Unless it’s to celebrate not drinking. Which doesn’t make sense. No matter what tho I gave my body a full week of rest and I feel great!! I’m tryna be like you tho. 30 days would be even more phenomenal.

I quit 3.5 years ago. I quit alcohol and cigarettes cold turkey. You can definitely do it. You just gotta have your mind right.

I’d love to go 3.5 years. Did you set that long of a goal or did you just say no more? Ever? Or did you set smaller goals and just keep extending them?

Thank you to everyone here that shared words of encouragement and wisdom To those who took the challenge with me. To those who tolerated the post being on the front page for two weeks instead of one. I’m very happy and I do feel accomplished!

Now what?

I don’t know. I think I’m going to keep it going. At least one more day. One day at a time right. The kombucha really helped because I love the way it tastes. It’s fermented which reminds me of beer. The bottle I get is glass which reminds me of beer. I can mentally substitute it as something like a beer which is cool. But I know it’s something that is good for my body because number one it’s not a beer and two it’s got a lot of healthy stuff in it.

I’ve only tried one flavor.

I’d encourage anyone who has come this far to keep it going. Or anyone who feels they may be drinking too much to come back to this post for motivation.

Thanks again fam.

I haven't made any music or picked up my camera or any of my other creative endeavors.

I was just smoking and playing Playstation, playing Destiny 2 to be specific; a game that has a bunch of fake-a$$ 'achievements' and no real end.

I just feel/felt caught in a loop. Every day I feel a lil better tho.

I enjoyed last night but it wasn't anything so special that I missed it all that much.

In response to Reply # 215

My side has been cramping a lot. And I don’t want to worry myself about it too much. Worry is almost as bad as binge drinking. I’ve been listening to podcasts about alcoholism and I’m currently listening to one on the Sinclair method. I have to do more research but basically the endorphins released from drinking cause the addiction so the Sinclair method stops those endorphins which makes the addiction slowly go away. That’s what I’m gathering anyway. But like I said I have to do more research.

The GI appointment has helped me set a new goal. So basically no drinking at least until the appointment. That will give my body a good amount of rest.

Glad your reset wasn’t amazing. Lol. 😜

called "Your Brain on Music"

a quick glance at that link and I'd say the reviews are a bit harsh.. I am personally getting a fair amount out of it and find it quite interesting...

but it talks in it a bit about this whole endorphin dopamine issue/mechanism..

So far just expressing has helped a lot. I haven’t felt like I have to have a drink. It’s was more habit. And in these 9 days I’ve made it a habit to not drink. If I feel that I get to a point where I have to have a drink and can’t control myself then I’ll deal with that. But I’m not there.

if you're going see someone to get a scrip for cessation then that person should be a mental health professional. you can still get the scrip but also an informed opinion on what other routes are viable for quitting permanently

It started around 6pm when my feelings got kinda hurt. Been waiting for it to pass but it hasn’t. Wanted to work out at the gym but couldn’t. Wanted to get some dyck but couldn’t. Wanted some me time but couldn’t. I’m hungry but don’t feel like eating. Tired but can’t get to sleep. I’m at the store now getting my kids some pizza. I gotta get something to eat cause I haven’t really eaten since 9:30 am. Gonna get some kombucha. That should help and decide what I may feel like cooking for myself and then go to sleep. Been drinking water all day so maybe I just need something to put on my palate to offset the desire for a drink.

Either way I’m not going to drink anything today. My new goal is 14 days.

Day ten was the hardest day but I’m genuinely proud of my accomplishment. I still haven’t decided exactly how long I’m going. My GI appointment is on the 22nd of this month so I’m planning to wait till then. I know that I never want to binge drink again but am leery about even trying to casually drink until I talk with a professional. That Sinclair method sparked my interest and when I talk to the doctor I’m going to see what he says. I may be willing to try a causal drink with that. Or not. The main thing is taking it all one day at a time and stay focused on my emotions. I don’t want to drink because of stress or negative or even positive emotions. The other day (day ten) I went through a tremendous high and then a tremendous crash. And I took note of that. Other than that I’ve stayed on an even plane. That’s where I want to stay.

I’m not sure if y’all had a chance to listen to the song I recorded a capella the sickness. That was a whole nother post that kinda got lost.

I even went to a place where I usually drink with folks and just ate and drank kombucha

They were impressed.

Keep at it. You're nearly 2 weeks in, how's the sleep patterns thus far? I ask b/c this was/is my biggest issue. These stay keeping me up at the worst times...then more worse, have you wildin out in the most vivid...then you wake up.... such a reality checker.

I've tried to share my experiences with even my GI and Primary, but they just shrug it off. It's only "sleep" after all right.

'Bad dreams are only dreams.'

BUt keep yourself in the forefront of this. Literally smiling as I type this out. Good luck!!!

I went to Richmond and recorded a song. It’s my first time this year recording and it really went well. I like the track and I like the song concept. Afterwards I went home and fished for about an hour and a half in the backyard. Caught one fish and threw it back but I really did some relaxing deep breathing and spending time with my son. Came home and fried chicken for my sons and then ate some crab legs and shrimp with my mom. All in all it was a pretty great day.

It was 80 degrees too

Made it 17 days last time I guess I will shoot for 20. My birthday is the 30th and I am not sure if I should or shouldn't try for a full month.

The longest i've gone is 7 months (nearly 10 years ago)
The longest last year was 40 days.
I'm going for a min. of 60 days but probably longer

I absolutely have no desire for it
Been working with a personal trainer and putting more hours into my real estate business as a replacement.

Thank you for the inspiration
