>i mean, how many time did an old head tell you two completely >different acts sounded the same.
when "Versace" came out, and folks have baaaaaaaaarely evolved that same triplet flow, which already existed, but really blew up from that song. Hell, Big Sean used it on "Ass" in 2011, Kendrick used it on "Swimming pools" in 2012, and we know Three Six and them used it in the 90's anyway. But still, damn near every rapper who comes out now raps on similar sounding 65-70 BPM Trap beats, same type hi hats, and same cadence.
In previous eras, there were just more styles that were heard. I even feel Regionalism helped, because each Region had unique styles that would end up influencing the other Regions. But take ANY year in the 90's, and even if there was a dominant flow for the year, it changed up a year or two later.
So it ain't even about being washed....I enjoy some of the new music, but it just doesn't evolve as fast as it used to, and most folks come in with a very, very similar style. ------------------------------
