and i dont understand the point of this asymmetrical 532. a central position is definitely in Gakpo's future as he develops, but they are only using half the field in possession. Blind's existence was justified before the tournament by the idea that he was going to tuck inside and combine with Gakpo on that wing. instead he's just standing around and Gakpo is fruitlessly running into very narrow channels.

if someone with a better tactical understanding could explain this, i would be very appreciative

you also got to get gio on the field if healthy. a pure striker ain't gonna mean shit vs england with minimal possession. have him as a false 9 and pray the innate skillets between puli/weah/gio figure something out. if gio isn't ready throw aaronson in there instead. maybe go to a 442. i dunno.

I'd argue guys like Scholes, Keane or Giggs probably accomplished a little more at the club over a longer period of time.
