One, agendas and Sixers fandom aside, I just want him to have a career. I’d never wish full bust status on anyone, let alone somebody who was undone by psychological stuff.

Two and less importantly, journey of a thousand miles.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

If he can knock down shots when they’re daring him to shoot, that will be huge for him and the Sixers.

And if it makes them play him a bit tighter than they were last year that’s a positive thing too.

But yeah, in terms of his own star potential, it will benefit him to have a quicker and higher release.

Given that he wouldn’t even shoot a jumper and had a hitch in his FT’s last year though, it will be certainly a big step forward if he can just take and make open shots.

his 3 pointer looks a little changed although the only ones i've seen him take are wide open ones so you don't have to elevate as much.

however, his midrange jumper looks to be pretty similar to what it was at U of Washington.

(and it seems like the plan is to give him minutes)

...i expect him to average 16-19 ppg, about 6 or 7 boards and 4 or 5 dimes.

he could score more but right now w/ simmons and embiid being ball dominant he'll just get in where he fits in.

philly gonna be dangerous if fultz is clickin.

One, if he shot 33 percent from 3 this year I’d be shocked and thrilled, but that’s not keeping Brad Stephens up at night.

But the bigger thing that I noticed last night is that he’s still a 20 year old ball dominant point guard, with all the typical bad habits we see in even the best dudes. He drives into traffic without a plan he’s going to turn the ball over too much and hurt our efficiency this year, and that is absolutely fine. Trust the process.

so clearly they must believe that whatever it is, is mental at this point and not physical

but that and the weird video where he contorted out of the blue just from raising his arm...are they sure that's not some nerve problem or something?

Like, he was actually making progress. He made a 3 this year! He was shooting 70 percent from the line! But something went off in his head.

With the butler trade, we’ve sped up our window and we can’t afford to have him out there being more harmful than Jah ever was. We need to trade him for whatever and let him try somewhere else.

I can not believe we drafted two of the three biggest busts of the decade.

i'm starting to wonder if it is physical and i only say that because shooting a basketball just isn't THAT hard especially if you've been doing it all your life.

what makes me wonder about a physical cause even more is that he's missing almost any layup where he's being challenged and he used to be a really good finisher, even when challenged, at least when he was at UW.

i'm still rooting for the kid. it's weird cuz he'll put up 14 one night then 3 the next.

i hope whatever is wrong, if something is wrong, that he fixes it or gets it fixed.

he's way too talented to go out like a sucka.

We've already seen the reaction that Fultz had when Brett Brown told Mark Jones and Doris that he was dealing with psychosomatic issues. The medical staff wouldn't be doing him any favors by saying he's dealing with chronic and anticipatory pain because it will be interpreted as "omg, he's mental!"

It was a daily question last year

IMO, they worked through every physical scenario

Let the #1 overall pick sit til he was ready
Have him working with specialists, etc...
No pressure giving him a bench role, etc...

But it's the 6ers fault?

FOH

I'm done with Fultz

Send him to the G league until he's got it figured out

or ship him and cut your losses

Making media statements about a player's mental issues doesn't help either party.

Simmons has been terrible lately. Can’t take care of the ball, can’t finish at the rim and can’t make free throws. He needs to step it up big time if the sixers are gonna take that mext step. Fultz as terrible as his free throws look has great ability to get and finish at rim and at least attempts the mid range shot.

lol yeah

I was thinking Simmons somehow has escaped criticism so far when his game hasn't been all that great so far this season. Lonzo has probably played better so far but still garners a lot of bust talk or trade talks at the very least.

Anthony Bennett was weird, too, but that also seemed like a choice that nobody else but the Cavs would have even made. Olowokandi was another one, but the Clips aren't the only team over the years that's been blinded by the height of an otherwise marginal prospect. Fultz was not at all a controversial choice at #1. Didn't have a ton of success at the college level, but neither did Simmons or Kyrie. Then he got hurt, then he seemed to forget how to shoot and he might not even get a second contract (which even Bennett was able to get!)

I'm really hoping this isn't the case, but heading into what should be his third NBA season and all we've got to go on is "body-fat looks good" is not promising.

of Lorenzo Romar.

For whatever reason, dude went from good coach to TERRIBLE and I mean TERRIBLE coach his last few years there.

That team was an utter shit show and it wasn't because of the players.

It's plainly evident too. As soon as Romar left, the SAME players (basically), MINUS the #1 pick (Fultz), won the league and won a tourney game two years later.

I'm not in here cape-ing for Fultz either. I mean, I really do like him and as a UW alum I'd like to see him succeed for the legacy of the school and for himself. But, TRUST ME, the team's record had little to do with him.

but go ahead tell us about the UW program and how Romar was an amazing coach on his way to a 2-16 record in a soft ass PAC-12.

Fultz was playing like a #1 pick in college, that's why he got drafted first overall, but that squad was disorganized as fuck.

was on on Romar? The WORST season in the history of the program was the one year Fultz was there but he get's NONE of the blame? Its all on the coach with the .600+ winning percentage that suddenly "forgot" how to coach?

you do realize that's the year Romar left too? and once he left, the SAME players (can't believe I have to tell you this for the THIRD time) MINUS a 20ppg scorer, won 20 games and then the year after won the conference and a NCAA tournament game. so, you think it's because FULTZ left and took his 20ppg and 6rpg with him that they got BETTER?

the L's write themselves with you. jesus.

and NO ONE said he "forgot" how to coach. but something definitely was lacking with him. as i said, it was probably his passion for some reason. if you watched EVERY game like *I* did you could actually kind of see it on the sidelines. i'm calling it "passion" for lack of a better term. maybe he just got old and tired but liked the money, but something in him fell the fuck off.

in the last 20-30 years and that it just didn't end well. By both statistical and anecdotal measures the program stagnated and went downhill over a number of years. And somehow ThaTruth thinks that was Markell's fault when he played well enough to get drafted #1 overal, even though he doesn't follow the team?

Anthony Bennett was drafted #1 overall too

But I know it’s typical, a black coach can have years of success then one bad season and doesn’t know how to coach any more it’s a wrap

the next year.

You also trying to compare Fultz to Bennett? Two main differences - Fultz NBA problems are due to an injury prior to his rookie year, and the only team that thought Bennett was a #1 pick was Cleveland.

Every post you make just shows more an more that you have no idea about UW basketball.

He didn't get fired for blackness, dude. If it was 1 single year, I'd entertain the point. He's underacheived for like 5 straight years with multiple first round talents. They improved immediately when he left.

But not many white coaches with a record like Romar at a program like UW would’ve been fired.

NO QUESTION.

It wasn't even the X's and O's alone.

One thing Romar was great at from like, '04 to...oh, let's say 2011, was taking players who were a little bit on the margins and getting the most out of them, even turning some of them into great college players who got drafted despite not being your typical NBA prospect.

after 2011, he lost all that for SOME reason (I think he started to lose passion for coaching I ASSUME but don't know for sure) and not one player I can really think of got much better under his tutelage in the years to follow.

competitively on ANY level try to suggest that a coach or a player “forgot” how to coach or play.

The bottom line is Romar had a winning percentage over .600 at UW and by far his worst season was the last one with #1 overall pick Markelle Fultz.

If you all want to put that all on the coach and not the player we can just agree to disagree and look at what the player had done since.

1995 you could stop being an arrogant prick and just kind of trust that having played basketball, having an understanding of the sport and knowing people involved in the program that I'm not talking out of my ass.

but no, keep doing you.

his win percentage was built up in the years I mentioned. from 2004-2011 his win percentage was .693.

His last 5 years his win percentage was .487.

so..........yeah.

They had Lonzo Ball (drafted), TJ Leaf (drafted), Ike Anigbogu (drafted), Aaron Holiday (drafted), Thomas Welsh (drafted), and Bryce Alford (first-team all-conference).

They were indisputably one of the three most talented teams in the country that year, right up there with Duke and Villanova. And while Duke and Villanova had the same number of draft picks, they didn't have a senior leader/first-team all-conference player as their sixth most talented guy, lol.

So the idea put forth by someone in this post that Lonzo didn't have quality teammates is, to put it mildly, insane.

... it's always a good thing to side with ThaTruth over me.

Bryce Alford was the sixth most talented player on that team... and he was a FIRST-TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE PLAYER. That's the point.

You wanna throw away Bryce and how much he did offensively for Lonzo's team-- 16 PPG, 43% shooting from 3, nearly a 3:1 A:TO ratio-- that's fine, because his shot selection was questionable at key points and his defense was trash, so I don't care. You still have to reckon with the *four NBA Draft picks* helping Lonzo before arguing that Lonzo didn't have help in college.

2018 Kentucky: 5
2017 Duke: 5

2018 Villanova: 5
2017 UCLA: 5

From what I can tell, this is the *complete* list.

There are several very good teams with 4-- other Duke and UK teams, Kansas, UVA, UNC, Gonzaga teams. But the ones with 5 are very infrequent.

And I'm not saying that UCLA team should've won the title or whatever. But any dismissal of the quality of Lonzo's teammates is... pretty patently insane.

The microscope in Philly was ridiculous and then, astutely, his agent and mom went shopping for a diagnosis to further get the pressure off him. Nothing has changed with his jumper from his time in Philly (still completely different form, still refuses to take it for the most part) but he’s playing with a ton of confidence. Really happy for him.
