"Ughhh...they gonna get Griff killed this year, yo!"

Let me just say off the top...FUCK WASHINGTON! Like for real. They could go 0-16 for the rest of my lifetime and I'd be good with that. That said...I will take ZERO pleasure in seeing this dude get beat onto the Injured Reserve list. Shit is disgusting. Maybe dude is not the best with the media, maybe he's too cocky for what he's achieved, maybe you hate his braids. Whatever. But, not like this.

WFC is one of those franchises that thinks a QB is more important than an offensive line.

This is the result.

OVER.

The second was a green-dog (anyone who watched NFL network knows what i'm referring too) where the back didn't come out and the LB saw the opening and sprinted FULL steam at griff. Rib cage exposed and just crushed him.

They let the defense crush his soul. Cousins and McCoy got protection. Griff didn't. It was like the coach was "hoping" he would get hurt.

Jay Gruden, Arena League QB and Offensive Coordinator for a cup of coffee... how did he get head coach? oh yeah... Dan dumbracistass Snyder.

copped tix of my coworker for the Thursday night at MetLife on the premise that it's great to see RG3 play in person (because who wants to be stuck in Jersey on Thursday night trying to get back to NYC). Hope he's still healthy at that point. One of the only teams we have a shot at sweeping this year in the NFC East, but it won't be a moral victory if their qb gets killed.

if he went to Cleveland he'd still be their starting QB (and standing upright)

instead they're still fielding backups as starters
and grooming an inferior production line copy of him to be their QB of their future

that organization is bullshit

that same line looked serviceable w/ colt mccoys ass in why wasnt he getting teed off on?

rg3 reads slowly. he doesnt have the sense of when to slide...move the pocket. he has 2 modes...running or throwing. we need a blend of em. he doesnt have the line or the time to drop back, stop, let the play develop, avoid the rush, AND release the ball...hes got to be mobile but not immd go to emergency hero ball lemme run this end around shit

oh well, our local sports talk shows are showing him no mercy

does it really matter?

His feel in the pocket is terrible and his ability to read and anticipate breaks is poor. He got lit by Levy because he was late getting the ball to Garcon. He knows where the break is, so that ball is suppoed to be gone, so levy can't unload on him.

Instead he held it, waited and got killed. That's not on the line.

>Absolute truth. Dude had Aaron Rodgers POTENTIAL coming out
>of college.

in retrospect he never did.

a lot of his failure is playing for one of the worst franchises in the league and not his fault, however Bob will never, in any universe, have 1% of Rodgers pocket presence and general pass anticipation.

Bob has the tools, and almost none of the other things (besides toughness) that make you a great QB.

or even a good one.

no awareness, no OL, no team = failure for everyone.

People forget Rodgers was not RODGERS coming out of college. He got to sit and learn the NFL game from the best for four years and they got plugged into a SB contending team.

Griffin came to a team with terrible coaches, a college read-option system, and a squad bereft of talent or prestige, and started day one.

that made a difference for AR though I remember rumors at one point that Favre was a shitty mentor and didn't want to teach his replacement.

But I've seen nothing in four years that leads me to believe Bob ever would have developed the timing and pocket presence required to be good.

You don't need to sit behind a HOF'er to learn when to dump the damn ball off, something he still struggles with today.

He got concussed yesterday because he tried to scramble on 3rd and 15, with no open field, an open RB waiting for a dump off, and all in a preseason game.

Dude just does not have it. And any chance he did have it was ruined by going to Washington.

That's what coaches are for, as Farve pointed out. And Rodgers had some great ones, for four years.

He had the first in college, and the second is something that can be learned.

No, but you might need to not spend several years in the maelstrom of failure and confusion that is WFC.

By then he had already been sacked several times and taken hits on almost every play. So yeah, I'm not surprised he couldn't see the field.

We can agree here. The minute he went to that team it was over. They mortgaged the future on a QB, then spent a third round pick on another QB. Hustling backwards.

52. "1. The Shanahans tailored an offense to his skill set. "
In response to Reply # 35

2. He had tremendous success in that offense, to the point he almost singlehandedly took the team to the playoffs.

3. He got severely injured in a playoff game. It's much easier to blame Mike Shanahan for that because Mike Shanahan is a lying asshole, but Griffin was asked repeatedly by teammates and assistant coaches during the game if he was ok. He insisted he was and trudged on. Months later he would blame Shanahan for not taking him out of the game.

4. With Adidas pushing him from behind, Griffin declared himself "all in for week one" months before the season and well in advance of him having even completed his rehab stint. (Aside: our owner is the worst owner in professional sports - he endorsed this behavior, forced Shanahan's hand, and ensured that Griffin would start his second season from week one.)

5. Citing his injury, an injury that he was partially responsible for mind you, Griffin told Shanahan he would no longer run the custom "read-option" offense that Mike and Kyle had built specifically for him. (Meanwhile Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson have both since made the Super Bowl with the exact same offense.) Griffin's case to Shanahan was that designed runs left him more vulnerable to injury. Shanahan conceded and installed a more contemporary under center/drop back quarterback offense.

6. In his second year, Griffin failed playing a traditional style of offense. Shanahan was fired, rightfully so.

7. Jay Gruden should not be an NFL head coach. He's a loser. Nonetheless, he was brought in and heralded as a QB whisperer whose sole mission was to fix RGIII. Gruden swiftly realized that Griffin can not play quarterback at this level in a traditional manner - looking down field, making 2-4 reads in less than 2.5 seconds, releasing the ball impulsively.

In short, Griffin's hubris contributed greatly to the shitstorm of the last three plus years. He's obviously not the only reason they're bad - I primarily blame the owner for enabling Griffin and also Shanahan for being incompetent in the way of judging NFL talent. But Griffin was too arrogant for his own role, he saw how vulnerable the organization was and he had his way with it on the back of an owner who, honestly, is one of the most despicable men in American business.

Lions are going nowhere, and I say that as a Bears fan knowing we will struggle to win 4 games.

They can't win in Green Bay so forget winning the division.

Minnesota is going to be a tough out this year and might be better than Detroit.

The schedule is pretty rough and one wild card spot is almost certainly going to the NFC West, which leaves one up for grabs. I am highly skeptical that the Lions get it playing in a division as competitive as the North will be.

Also, Matthew Stafford is just not that good.

Duly noted.

I just don't get the reason for optimism, this team has the same basic parts it already had. Great front 4 with a solid linebacking corps and a mediocre-decent secondary, HOF WR paired with a hot & cold gunslinging QB and a decent but not great oline.

They have an outside shot of making the playoffs but that's about it.

Obviously they will annihilate the Bears but again, that's same thing they have been doing.

Major undersell. Levy is the best OLB in the league, Tulloch is top 10 at worst MLB, and Tahir Whitehead is solid in a complimentary way. I also REALLY like Josh Bynes. As a group thats way beyond solid.

Wat? Lol. Ihedigbo, Quin, Slay, and Mathis are firmly a top 10 group. Quin and Ihedigbo are the best safety duo not playing in Seattle, Mathis simply does not make mistakes, and Slay is on the verge of top 10 status. Nickel is a question mark, but its the only one.

This is another top 5 defense.

Thomas Davis and Bobby Wagner are both better to my taste, because while they might not stop the run quite as effectively, both are much better in coverage. Levy is def really good.

Tulloch
>is top 10 at worst MLB,

I'm doubtful. There are a lot of MLBs in the league (just think of all the 3-4 teams starting two apiece) but with guys like WIllis retiring and Bowman still a question mark, he might squeeze in the top 10. He is a good player though.

and Tahir Whitehead is solid in a
>complimentary way. I also REALLY like Josh Bynes. As a group

No idea who Josh Bynes is. But yeah, I may have sold this unit short, they are better than solid. The entire front 7 is excellent.

This is where you lost me:

Glover Quin had a great season but he is not Eric Berry yet.

Ihedigbo...I just don't see him as anything better than good. Maybe I am biased since I knew his sister fairly well and she was just a horrible person haha, but yeah, he is a solid player but anything beyond that I have not seen. And he never made a Pro Bowl, so yeah, no.

Mathis is a good player but he is also a 34 year old cornerback who only intercepted one pass last year. He was solid and might be so again, but when corners hit that wall, they fall off suddenly.

Slay is a promising young corner but I am not willing to put him even at top 15.

And nickel is, as you pointed out, still under construction.

>This is another top 5 defense.
>

Well, my thesis was, strong defense, same Lions offense that they have been working with, all equals, same Lions we have seen more or less for last two years.

Which, in this division, has not been enough to take the crown off the Packers. And with Vikings on the come up, outside of Chicago there won't be any gimmes. I don't really see them even making the 'offs.

Raw stats like that don't always say what the story is right today. Not only that but playing in a division with Chicago and Minnesota the last few years has been a great way to rack up int's, I'm sure.

You could go off PFF which has Davis as their best 4-3 OLB in coverage just as easily.

And Wagner, I'm going off stuff like seeing dude legit covering Randall Cobb man-to-man fifty yards downfield.

You feel like he is the best OLB in league, I feel like he is prolly 3rd. Not the end of the world.

Our assessment of the secondary is far more noteworthy. I have Lions as decent, you have them with an elite safety combo and two great corners. Other than that our assessments of the defense, at this point in the discussion, are not far apart.

Mathis is what he is, a leader who uses great technique and never botches coverage

He doesn't have the athleticism anymore to be great, but hes very good because of things that dont fade with age

Elite safety combo tho, im riding with that.

It's bad overall for RG3 get a beating in a pre-season game, but I was thinking the Washington OL possibly got beat by second and third stringers. Makes it somewhat better Griffin got his braids dirty as result of getting mangled by starters.

Since I am a Jacksonville fan.

But that's how much of a mess that franchise has been and continues to be. I prefer our predictable mediocrity with the occasional wild card chase to what must be a torturous roller coaster of emotions for Washington fans.

When Colt McCoy goes 6 for 25 on some Tebow shit I'm pointing out this QBR shit they're hyping right now. When Kirk throws four interceptions I'm pointing to his QB rating in the preseason against third stringers.

Colt McCoy is a solid backup. As for Kirk....

He threw 10 TDs and 9 interceptions on a 61.8 completion percentage going 1 and 4 as starter. You'll point to his 86.4 completion percentage as I say 1 AND 4. He was 0-3 in 2013. Kirk Cousins is not starter material RIGHT TODAY.

We'll find out this season. All I know is a certain section of this fan base hyped Kirk for two years now like he's the guy when stats show he's far from it. Do you really want Kirk starting over RG3? Kirk starts at some point this year and we watch what happens.

#1 in the NFL in yards per game (1710 yards in 5.5 games = 311 yards/game)
#2 in the NFL in yards per attempt
#5 in the NFL in lowest sack rate (min. attempts: 100)
#10 in the NFL in adjusted net yards per attempt (yards per attempt, but subtracts yards allowed on sacks, awards 20 yards for a TD, and penalizes 45 yards for an INT)
#13 in the NFL in TD% (min. attempts: 100)
#15 in the NFL in DVOA, #23 in the NFL in DYAR despite only playing 5.5 games

#1 in Redskins franchise history in yards per game
#2 in Redskins franchise history in yards per attempt
#6 in Redskins franchise history in adjusted net yards per attempt (min attempts: 200)
#8 in Redskins franchise history in sack rate (min. attempts: 200)
#13 in Redskins franchise history in passer rating (min. attempts: 200)

He had a promising outing in 2014 and I see no reason why he can't be an NFL starter, assuming he can get control over his INTs. Griffin's passing stats need to be filtered through the understanding that he is the league leader in sacks and among the worst fumblers in NFL history, so he actually has as many or more negative plays than Cousins.

WHAT PROMISING OUTING? Show me some promise because I don't see it. This dude is 2-7 over nine starts with a completion percentage of 59. LOL at you bringing up advanced metrics then plea copping.

Here's the source you used:

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/player/29722/kirk-cousins

In 2013 his DYAR was -314, YAR -300, and VOA -41.2. In 2014 his DYAR was 223 which slotted him at 24, YAR 213, and VOA 3.9. Your boy isn't nearly as good as you think he is.

Of course, he'll perform better because Jay Gruden loves pocket passers. This Washington team needs a good old boy with a strong arm to come through.

In response to Reply # 61

DYAR is a volume + efficiency stat. You make a positive play? You get DYAR. You make a negative play? You take away DYAR. The more plays you run, the more opportunities you have to accumulate DYAR. Therefore, the fact that Kirk Cousins had only 204 pass attempts yet placed #24 in the league means he had a very good year. His DYAR per game was 41 (224 DYAR accumulated in 5.5 games - we'll ignore that he missed 1.5 series against the Jaguars). 41 DYAR per game over the course of a 16 game season is 656 DYAR, which would place him #11 in the league, right behind Andrew Luck and ahead of the likes of Russell Wilson and Matt Stafford.

Here are the top Redskins single-season performances by a QB over the past 2 decades, ranked in order of DYAR per game:

1. 2007 - Todd Collins (71 DYAR/game)
2. 1999 - Brad Johnson (67 DYAR/game)
2. 2012 - Griffin (48.5 DYAR/game)
3. 2014 - Cousins (41 DYAR/game)
4. 2006 - Brunell (41 DYAR/game)
5. 2005 - Brunell (33 DYAR/game)
6. 2000 - Brad Johnson (31 DYAR/game)
7. 2008 - Campbell (29 DYAR/game)
8. 2007 - Campbell (25 DYAR/game)
9. 2009 - Campbell (11 DYAR/game)
10. 2010 - McNabb (10 DYAR/game)

So according to DYAR, Cousins had the 4th best season by a Redskins QB in 2 decades. And these are stats that take into account the impact of interceptions. Cousins has way more potential than Griffin - it's not really that close.

Cousins had the 4th best season by a Washington QB in 2 decades... AND WENT 1 AND 4.

This dude said takes into account the impact of interceptions. If he has so much potential THEN WHY THE FUCK DID HE GO 1-4? PLEAS answer me. Let me point your potential to RG3's rookie year. If he's so good then why hasn't he started. Is there a conspiracy to keep the ***** man down? Let us know pleas.

The floor is yours so educated us on Kirk because we don't see it.

Because that isn't how statistics work.

Kirk Cousins isn't "right behind" Andrew Luck in anything.

And he isn't "ahead of" Russell Wilson in anything.

Kirk misses throws in key situations. 3rd downs for instance. He's also a turnover machine under any kind of pressure. Aka he doesn't even have the decency to finish drives with punts like Tebow in his starter days. That's two of the worse problems to have as a qb. So no on Kirko Cuzo. I saw the good too. Then he started those games in a row and tanked huge. he was especially brutal on that Thursday night game vs the Giants. He was so bad, the Giants had people on the bench in the 4th. The Giants!

A franchise where the coach hates the QB and needs a built in reason for the QB to lose his job.

And I don't hate Washington at all...no dog in that fight

But to say he's CLEARED to play, then say he's not AFTER a concussion, where you lead the franchise QB get obliterated in a pre-season game? Come on

And this isn't an Eagles-Skins thing...it just disgusts me. We all already know (and I have a friend who is the former PT for the Broncos so I've heard a lot more things that will never go public) that the NFL treats its players as completely expendable pieces in terms of health...but there are certainly some organizations which take player health far less seriously than others when it comes to standard protocols and understanding risk-reward.

Based upon them having that racist assed name. While a righteous stance that woukdve won him love, it would've gotten him out of playing for a known horrible organization and owner. He might not have had as much clout as Eli or Elway to pull it off but so what if he would've had to sit out a year.

He should've fuckin better known better. He should've done the right thing.

KC is going to cement his status as best QB in franchise history (c)

They're moving on already? The leash for the black QB is short ain't it. KC goes 2-7 yet somehow he's still in the mix for starting QB. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL

That leash is VERY short...between RGIII, Josh Freeman (I'm still blown by how dirty he got treated), even Geno to a lesser extent.

Josh Freeman's states and Eli Manning's are basically identical their first 4 years in the league and they were ready to run Freeman out of Tampa.

We are clowning RG3 for the same reason people are bigging up Mike Vick in the other post. Displaying a strong character with consistency on the field will make people root for you and being an overrated fuckface ass loser will make people laugh when you fall.

Not to eulogize his career just yet, b/c I believe (and hope) that RG3's story isn't over yet, but even if he never starts another game again, we'll always have 2012—simply one of the most electrifying rookie seasons ever in the NFL.

Greg Howard summed it up well: http://deadspin.com/rgiii-almost-saved-washington-and-then-he-didnt-1727780577

Sure, you could have a solid Matt Cassel-like journeyman career and fade away into oblivion. But they're not gonna make a 30 for 30 about Matt Cassel. (And you just know there will be one about Bobby Three Stacks.)

Farewell Robert. I wanted you to succeed, even as recently as a week ago, but it's time to move on.

I'm a fan of the team. Players come and go. "It's Kirk's team," said our hapless coach. So I support Kirk.
