is that Seattle's receivers are mediocre. who on OKS thinks they're *good*? that's why Doug Baldwin went crazy post-NFC championship on Deion, who called them out.

Seattle has been trying to upgrade for a couple years, and probably will try again this off-season, but this is the cap era...you can't have All-Pros at every position. Seattle's formula of the best defense + elite RB + franchise QB is good enough to win the Super Bowl.

it's the same deal when Brady was throwing to David Givens and Troy Brown...average receivers, but back then he also had an elite defense, special teams and spy cameras. he had plenty of "help" when it came to winning games. Wilson would put up bigger numbers with better receivers, but he probably wouldn't win as much if those upgrades came at the cost of the defense or running game.

The play-design isn't to win the route, but it's, as I just said, for Kearse to get depth to make Butler have to circle around rather than drive directly on the route. It's a pure timing route and that's why Russell threw that ball to the outside shoulder right after his drop. Browner was the key in that play because Kearse got no depth off his great jam.

they didn't want to run against the pats goal line package on 2nd down. hawks coaches were still in chess mode, when every other person on the planet could see that part of the game was over. 2nd and goal from the 1 with a timeout, it was my guy is bigger and more violent than your guys time.

they were blinded by the heat of the moment, failed to adjust out of chess mode, and hence made what was obviously-- both at the time and in hindsight-- the worst call in sports history. i feel like i read a malcolm gladwell book about someting like this.

if you're going to let your scatterbrained OC call whatever he wants in any situation, it's on you when it doesn't work.

Bevell doesn't run an entire side of the ball by himself, Carroll goes through the game plan, knows what calls are put in, what they like in certain situations, and has final veto power on everything that comes from the sideline.

if he doesn't have *any* input regarding his coordinators' in-game decisions, that means he's just a sideline cheerleader. and just as culpable as a dunce.

Dude called 2 straight run plays when the Pats had stacked their LBs at the line of scrimmage knowing damn well Marshawn was going to get the ball. (They even tried to unsuccessfully run the ball down the middle against Wilfork on 2nd down...wTf). That would have been a great time to call a play-action & go for the jugular. (It ended up being a quick 3 & out w/ Russell getting sacked on 3rd down)

I can admit now that I screamed like a teenage white chick seeing One Direction in person when I realized that Kearse caught that ball on some Antonio Freeman shit (I saw that one as it happened). And my lord, Pete bumbling around post-game trying to explain that bullshit call made it somehow worse.

I can accept that Tom Brady once again left the field with the lead in a Super Bowl. The man played as well as Peyton played badly last year. Sure, the 1st pick was bad. The 2nd one was a good play. And yeah...that throw to Welka the last time WAS kinda high. But really though...who wins by throwing 50 times vs Seattle? Shiiiid. I know, I know...the injury to Thomas mattered. And Lane going out was a key thing as well. But still..Tom made a gang of good throws and decisions vs a great defense. He'll get and deserve credit. He's it.

I can't let RUSSELL WILSON off the hook. I call the kid 'The Power', so I'm clearly biased in his direction. I generally ignore the politician steeze because I saw the play-making, the execution and the throws he constantly makes over the top in key moments. Hell, that sluggo throw to Lynch to start the drive? Shiiiiid. But now, I'm gonna throw up if/when he takes a mountain of money and sets Seattle up to never be as talented as they are right now. Legit big $ QBs don't let historically bad play-calls go down on their watch. That's why I don't fuck with Cutla's sleepwalking/no audibling ass. Or even AR sometimes. Honestly, that's why I have shade on tap for Peyton on the regular. He's the king of too-cute play-calls and/or shaky execution in key moments.

I can understand if Beast doesn't come back. I'm tired of watching teams with elite backs get cute when shit is on the line. Frisco has done it to Frank Gizzle several times down the stretch in their big losses the last few years. The $ is gonna be hard to turn down, but damnit man.

I can't watch this coverage right now. And when I try to, I have to turn my head when I see the play coming. I expect that things will slant towards Brady LEGIT throw-making and away from Seattle's horrendous execution of the worst clutch play-call ever. That play is a thing that will have to be lived down. And I'm too *everything sad and mad* about it right now to think that these folks (Pete, Bevell, Wilson) ever will. I could be wrong. Maybe some story will pop up and give Seattle a chance to get away from it long enough to recover a bit.

Before Patriots safety Malcolm Butler carved out his place in both Patriots and Super Bowl lore on Sunday, he looked eternal NFL infamy right in the eyes.

It was Butler who was in coverage on Jermaine Kearse when the Seahawks wide receiver made the juggling catch that appeared to seal the Patriots' fate late in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLIX. If Kearse was about to become the new David Tyree, then Butler would be damned to be the next Rodney Harrison.

"I just went up and deflected it," Butler said shortly after the Patriots' wild 28-24 win. "Nine times out of 10 it usually goes away from him but as I was looking, I saw him bobble it catch it. Which was -- devastating."

Butler altered his own fate two plays later, jumping in front of a Russell Wilson pass intended for Ricardo Lockette and stealing a repeat away from the Seahawks with the shocking interception.

"I knew what was going to happen," said Butler, an undrafted free agent out of Western Alabama who said New England was the only team that gave him a chance to reach the NFL. "I don't know how I knew. I just knew. I just beat him to the point and caught the ball."

Perhaps Butler knew because he had seen the play before. During a scout-team practice, backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo beat Butler on the same play for a touchdown to Josh Boyce.

"We did and Josh got a touchdown in practice on it," Garoppolo confirmed in the Pats locker room. "It got him ready and he knew what to expect. Jumping the route like that, that's very impressive. That's all instincts."

carroll was waitin' on the pats to call time out, but it never happened. in that moment, carroll 2nd-guessed the same thing that had gotten them there. the same call that had proven to be the difference time & time again. instead, he went away from the basics and tried to get cute. he took the ball out of the hands of the TRUE play maker on that seattle team. the one guy you can always count on to give everything just to keep moving forward.

should be interesting to see how wilson & the rest of the seahawks respond after such a huge let down.

..props to mcdaniels, but they pats walked away from conventional football long ago.

their running game is mostly augmented through their quick/short passing attack (ie: small ball). they have a few gashing plays for rbs like blount, but their bread & butter is always the short & intermediate routes.

great game by both teams, but its pretty obvious that seattle made a crucial error when it counted the most.

that being said, the pats defense stepped up HUGE.

By what logic? He stepped into a situation that runs well, with or without him.

I fail to see what makes FAR AND AWAY a better offensive mind than anyone else.

He coached a good game, but Denver gashed Seattle using the exact same strategy during the regular season so possibly all he really did was watch some film. And even still, their offensive line won that game because Brady had to hold the ball for those zone clearing plays to develop. If Seattle had the kinda pass rush they brought to the SB last year, that shit aint working.

Good for McDaniels but I agree with the previous poster, Bill psyched Petey out.

style of offense then? All I know is that the Patriots continue to score points no matter what personnel they have. To me that speaks to the quality of the plays. 28 points against the Seattle defense with only Gronk and Edelman as threats. The red zone numbers for the Pats are always ridiculous too...if the Packers had their conversion rate in the playoffs they would have beaten Seattle by 40 points.
