Cowboys to bring in Michael Sam Updated: September 2, 2014, 5:01 PM ET
The Cowboys plan to bring Michael Sam to Dallas for a physical Wednesday, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
If all goes well, Sam will be a Cowboy, signed to the team's practice squad, the source said.
Sam, who is seeking to become the first openly gay athlete to play in the NFL, was cut by the St. Louis Rams on Saturday.
The Rams spent a seventh-round draft pick, No. 249 overall, on him in May's draft. He put together a solid preseason performance, coming up with 11 tackles and three sacks. In Thursday night's preseason finale against Miami, Sam finished his preseason work with a team-high six tackles.
Sam cleared waivers Sunday and is free to sign with any team.
The Rams finalized their 10-player practice squad on Monday, and it did not include Sam.
Coach Jeff Fisher had suggested that a lack of bodies at positions with little depth could leave the defensive end on the outside looking in when the team added to that unit.

like LA keeps saying, we'd be content to hope his does well and get back to thinking about shit of similar-on-field-importance like why ryan williams should have made the roster or why they obviously did no homework on the guy we drafted instead of sam.

i honestly dont know practice squad lengths like that i only follow friends and family practice squad journeys and NONE of them niggas last more than 3-4 weeks on a single teams squad they do shit like play 3 weeks for the chiefs then get cut and get signed by the dolphins for a week! then back to the chiefs for 3-4 weeks then be back home for like 2-3 weeks then maybe the raiders will call them for 1-2 weeks

yea i use to think being on the practice squad meant you were essentially on a teams JV squad like you'd get access to all the facilities, full access to the locker room, and training staff for that season then my bol lil brother got signed to the chiefs practice squad...... NOPE you might as well work in the mail room it's a week to week struggle with no guarantees basically

Im trying to find some forums/posts that had REAL cowboy fans salivating or even predicting that mike sam would be on America's Team this season.
this shit bananas. i dont follow the innerworkings of the cowboys organization but if EVERYONE in cowboys nation knew he was going to cowboys back in april/may but ESPN didnt pick up that meme somebody got some splainin to do lucy

We (okp cowboys fans) have been consistent in saying we need defensive help. I didn't think we'd be getting him, so back in April I wasn't "salivating" thinking about him coming to our team. He wasnt an option.
If the point you are trying to make is that we fans didn't want him before and won't accept him now because he's gay all I can say is that I live in Dallas. Between friends and family in Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin, I can't see any cowboys fans having an issue with bringing him in. We are desperate for more defensive help. If he can play, we want him.
