Algieri overcomes 2 knockdowns in the first round..... his eye looks horrible... and he sucked it up and won the fight..
controversial split decision... I need to watch it again, but I agreed with Andre Ward late in the fight who said he felt that Algieri had caught up and was winning the fight..
definitely worth a watch on the replay for those who missed it..

Not with 2 kd's for Provo. anything more than 7 rounds to 5 for Algeri seems ridiculous to me. Provo def won the 12th, and at least 1 other late round. clearly Provo threw the much harder, more effective punches. looking at their faces during and after the fight would tell u that. RP barely looked like he had been in a fight.
still not a good showing for my boy Ruslan. Algeri's height and cagey boxing savvy made for a difficult night, but still Provo was not quite himself. he looked either out of shape or weight drained. i'm pretty confident in assuming the latter. other than the wide looping left hook, his power really wasn't there. his combinations looked shitty the few times he let them go- only one hard punch at a time. didn't really appear to hurt Algeri much to the body.
dude needs to move up to '47, cuz Matthysse and Garcia will both tear his ass up at 140. i'd even pick Broner at 140 over a weight drained Provodnikov. damn that would be epic tho- Broner/Provo. somebody need to make that happen.
i'll wait to see Algeri in 1 more good fight before i make an assessment, but clearly the kid is a real fighter/contender.

white people are going to love his scrappy story i actually like the swag that he boxed with. people were hating like dude ran all night but really he rarely held and used his movement to set up more offense the majority of the time. that length and his ability to throw from all kind of angles will help him out against those 140lb midgets but he has to do something about those pitty pat joe cal punches

Algieri's manager is saying his next fight is going to be against a big time boxer because after all Algieri is the title belt holder. Names suggested Manny Pacq (really?) and Danny Garcia (I could see that happening). Maybe the winner faces Pacq.
Provodnikov was likely being lined up as Pacq's next opponent (they both have Freddie Roach in their corner which made it a bit difficult. Now Provodnikov has lost he is not that enticing a name for Pacq (especially as Provodnikov also lost to Bradley).
