"2013 Broussard Memorial (NBA Draft Rumor) Thread"

Silly season for NBA reporters and GMs has begun!

Paul Pierce for #31 and #33

Sam Amico, who I don't think has ever gotten a rumor right, is saying that Luol Deng for #3 and Emeka Okafor is being discussed.

Post and Discuss the rumors here.

Im actually beginning to like the offseason more than the reg season. Sheer Lunacy.

REPORT don’t be surprised if Pelicans acquire 13th pk from Mavs, select Giannis Adetokunbo. NOLA also gets Shawn Marion, send Mavs future pk.

per Fletcher Mackel in NOLA

& supposedly allegedly Aldridge is a draft night trade candidate. It's somewhere I just can't find it.

Tepid feelings about the draft from GMs plus a new CBA make for some moves to be made. If you're bold and know who you want, I bet you can get him almost regardless of projected position.

That Deng rumor sounds dumb for both teams. That's a bad one. There will be a lot of bad ones.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

The amount of risk they'd be taking on him (especially teaming him with Nene who also can stay healthy) would be huge.

And they wouldn't be able to talk extension before the trade because the deal would have to go down before team's can talk to free agents.

But Grunfeld is the guy who trade Ricky Rubio for Mike Miller and Randy Foye so anything is possible.

In response to Reply # 0

btw if sheridan hoops was in print, i wouldn't scoop dogshit with it.

i don't believe none of it. someone's got an angle they're playing here.

http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2013/06/25/source-bobcats-shopping-kidd-gilcrest-to-draft-otto-porter/

The Charlotte Bobcats are shopping Michael Kidd-Gilchrist around the league, confident they will be able to replace him with Otto Porter of Georgetown with the No. 4 pick in Thursday’s draft.

The reason the Bobcats braintrust of Rich Cho and owner Michael Jordan believe Porter will be available is because, SheridanHoops has learned from league sources, the Washington Wizards are determined to draft Andrew Bennett of UNLV with the No. 3 pick.

A second league source said the Bobcats have been working the phones, gauging the interest level among teams for the 2nd pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.

“MKG” had an up-and-down rookie season for the Bobcats averaging 9.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.5 apg, 0.9 bpg and 0.7 spg. Among the teams most interested, according to the source, are the Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics.

Charlotte has targeted Harrison Barnes of the Warriors as the player they would most like to acquire, but a straight-up offer of Kidd-Gilchrist would not be enough.

The Bucks are targeting small forwards after trading Tobias Harris to Orlando for J.J. Redick, and they had their sights set on Crotian Dario Saric before he withdrew from the draft last week. Milwaukee, has the 15th pick, is looking for a defensive-minded small forward and believe Kidd-Gilchrist would be a good fit in coach Larry Drew’s system.

Boston, which presumably will be looking for a replacement for Paul Pierce, who can be bought out for $5 million by June 30 but is more likely to be traded, has the No. 16 pick.

The Hawks have picks Nos. 17 and 18 but very few other trade assets other than John Jenkins, the 23rd overall pick in 2012. The only other Hawks players currently under contract are Al Horford and Lou Williams, although Jeff Teague and Ivan Johnson are expected to receive qualifying offers that will make them restricted free agents.

Then they can draft Porter and Bennett/Len/Burke etc.

Pelicans fly with AD and MKG for the next 10-12.

If they wanted Barnes, they could've taken him last year. They're going to turn around a year later like "my bad, can we have Barnes instead of MKG?"

If Milwaukee needs a SF so badly since trading Harris for Redick.....why'd they trade Harris for Redick?

These teams have more of a plan than this right? I realize these are bad franchises, but I don't believe this, basically.

why the fuck would the warriors trade barnes for mkg straight up?
mkg can't shoot and he can't play small ball 4 like barnes
after the playoffs barnes ceiling looks higher, but even if you ignore that barnes is just a better fit in that system

and the reddick trade was a massive L for the bucks
and he might bounce anyway in FA.....
a sign and trade might be their way of salvaging a little something from their mistake of giving away a good young player for a one dimensional dude who's probably already reached his ceiling

In response to Reply # 0

Reports: Cavs down to Noel or Len at No. 1

The Cavaliers are expected to select either Kentucky C Nerlens Noel or Maryland C Alex Len with the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's draft.
Both ESPN and FOX Sports Ohio are reporting that this is a two-horse race as we approach the 48-hour mark. And in a sign of just how weak this draft class is, Chad Ford says that the Cavs wouldn't expect either one to be an immediate starter -- even if their respective injuries heal in time. Cleveland has Anderson Varejao and Tristan Thompson up front. The Cavs are expected to finalize their draft board in the next 24 hours, so perhaps we'll have a clearer picture of their plans then. If they go for Len, the Magic are expected to take Noel at No. 2 overall.

You can take the chance on Nerlens or Len and be straight.

Pekovic/Len or Noel
Tristan/AK 47
Derrick Williams/AK 47/Budinger
Waiters/Ridnouer/Shevd
Rubio/JJ

not bad

hell swap Otto and run with him and Derrick Williams and draft a Center late to back up Pekovic

It's easy.

Dion projects as a role-player, scorer off the bench.

Tristan Thompson is Derrick Williams clone, a.k.a end of rotation PF.

Guys like that are dime a dozen in the league, the only difference is that high pick shine hasn't worn off yet. But Cleveland been fucking up the draft for a while.

So you're left with the #1 pick and whether you like any of those guys (Noel, Porter, Len, Oladipo) over Love. And you don't.

Don't get me wrong, I'd turn that deal down in a heartbeat if I was Minny. You basically become the Kings with a lot of nice talent who can win just enough games to get your a shitty lotto pick and no playoffs.

But why is Grant gutting his entire roster for a guy who is 90% certain to be gone in a couple years. Kyrie's good but not good enough to make Cleveland more appealing than FL or Los Angeles.

I agree, I'm not opposed to trading Love, but I don't see how this is such a good offer. I like Waiters enough, but I doubt Thompson/the #1 pick are going to replace Love's production.

Also, there's no indication Love's going to stay in Cleveland.

Maybe he's clutching to the LeBron dream.

Hey, LeBron, you win another chip next year and then come home to play with KyKy and Love.

Love is a better shooter than Bosh and can actually rebound.

Kyrie will be better than Wade soon or maybe he already is.

In response to Reply # 0

I like AA but seems like at various points they coulda gotten more for Bledsoe. Would love to see how Bledsoe fairs as a full time starter on a mediocre team like Orlando.

They get to dump Caron's salary but still

ESPN is reporting that the Clippers and Magic are still in discussions on a trade that would potentially send Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler to the Magic for Arron Afflalo and possibly Andrew Nicholson. The Clippers could also get a future first-round pick in the deal.
If this deal were to happen prior to the draft (and it may not even be close), it would clear the Magic to draft SG Victor Oladipo or Ben McLemore without having to worry about finding minutes for a rookie SG. It would also give them a dynamic point guard and create a likely timeshare with Jameer Nelson, whose career is winding down. The Clippers could use Afflalo's outside shooting and would get something in return for Bledsoe before he becomes a free agent next summer. Doc Rivers has made it clear that he's a Bledsoe fan, but that may only enhance the Clippers' leverage in trying to deal him.

Not sure what NO is asking for but EG is supposedly *very* available. I wouldn't be surprised at some sort of three way deal that sends Granger somewhere else though.

Seems like a good deal for both teams. I like Lance Stephenson, but I think he's best suited as a sixth man. Plus... EG is an Indiana boy, so there's that.

In response to Reply # 56

With Granger being from NOLA, and EG from Indiana it makes a ton of sense on paper.

EXCEPT

Granger is an expiring, is on the wrong side of 30 and just missed an entire season. $14 mil for that? No value, no thanks.

Gordon is injury prone and on the block but that is essentially a giveaway. Need more to make it happen. I'd rather just keep him and roll the dice.

They'll be DEEP in the luxury tax with Hibbert, Gordon, a re-signed West, and an extended Paul George.

Those four alone might take up their entire salary cap.

Word is, Thomas Robinson was in Cleveland last night for the LL Cool J concert. Sources suspect perhaps for a physical, too.

why is a nigga from the DMV in cleveland, for starters. Then to watch the big head nigga from NCIS whose best records came out when he wasn't alive?

shenanigans.

It depends on how things shake out but I think there could be some solid talent at #19 and I'm not sold on Robinson after last season.
I like the idea of Robinson to Chicago and then they try to ship Taj out.

You act like I'm saying that they should ONLY sign McBob or Ivan Johnson and they'll be set. I'd much rather grab a prospect I want at 19 and go after bigger free agent names or trades.

If nobody I really like falls to 19, I make the trade but I don't do it pre-draft.

To act like signing Josh McRoberts over Thomas Robinson for the 19 is somehow going to cost your the fan base and force Kyrie to demand a trade is kind of silly.

your main goal is to have as many pieces on board that you can say to both Kyrie and the city "enough is enough, we're in the playoffs from now on"

the guy you get at 19 is 2 yrs away from contributing. And you don't have the luxury to wait on him.

elton, jo, mcbob, dalembert? ivan johnson? yech.

they're much more a vet sf away from being in the playoffs than they are a big man. so if you're gonna go big, take a shot instead of an old guy.

do they want to dump wack young players and go to the playoffs next yr or not?
best move would be to say FOH to trob , try to dump tristan somehow
and use the money toward one of the PFs coming out on the FA market
any move that involves taking on salary for "projects" is just dumb , ALL them resources need to be going to building the best team for NOW if their goal is really making the playoffs

Word is, Aldridge wants to escape from Portland's rebuilding project and has made it known that he'd like to land in Chicago.

Deng for Aldridge won't get it done. The Blazers want Joakim Noah in return and the Bulls don't want to give up the superior defensive big man.

92. "Thunder trying to move into the top 5"
In response to Reply # 0

The Thunder are pursuing a top-five pick in Thursday's draft and are specifically targeting Maryland center Alex Len, sources tell Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
After reports said Len could fall out of the lottery entirely because of his ankle injury, he's now being mentioned as a potential candidate to go No. 1 overall and almost seems assured to go in the top five Thursday night. The Thunder's interest in Len makes sense considering Serge Ibaka's obvious offensive shortcomings and the fact that OKC has so little in the way of offensive big men. Still, it's the night before the draft, which means smokescreens and false rumors are everywhere and thus all reports should be taken with healthy grains of salt.

Thunder beat writer Darnell Mayberry says he has a gut feeling the Thunder will move into the Top 5 of the draft and could select Alex Len (or Victor Oladipo), if it happens.
Adrian Wojnarowski wrote as much earlier today, but Mayberry breaks down the plan that could make it happen. He suggests the Thunder could offer a Top 5 team (Orlando/Charlotte) picks No. 12, 29, 32 and Dallas' future (protected) first-round pick. If that's enough to get it done, it would appear that the Thunder have a solid shot at getting something done.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/9427945/los-angeles-lakers-not-likely-re-sign-dwight-howard-sources-say

There is very little chance of Dwight Howard re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers this summer, according to sources close to the situation.

Howard is willing to forgo the extra $30 million the Lakers can pay him to play for a coach and in a system he feels will better utilize his skill set, one source said.

The Lakers can offer Howard a five-year, $118 million contract while other teams can pay him only $88 million over four years.

Howard plans to meet with Dallas, Houston and Atlanta before meeting with the Lakers once teams are allowed to contact free agents beginning July 1, a source said. It appears that the teams will visit Howard in Los Angeles.

Howard is notoriously indecisive so the Lakers, while apparently major underdogs, should not be completely eliminated from contention. Before the 2011-2012 season, he repeatedly asked the Orlando Magic to trade him, and then at midseason he opted-in to the final year of his contract to remain in Orlando.

Howard's major problem with the Lakers is the system coach Mike D'Antoni employs. Beyond that, he did not enjoy playing with Kobe Bryant, though he could manage to do so in a different system, a source said. Howard also does not want to be second fiddle to Bryant for several more seasons.

While many believe Houston is the Lakers' stiffest competition, sources say Howard finds Dallas just as appealing, if not more. Assuming the Mavericks are able to clear enough cap space to offer him a maximum-salaried contract, Howard is strongly considering joining Dallas. The Mavericks are trying to shed Shawn Marion's $9 million expiring contract to create the room to sign Howard, according to sources.

Howard likes the idea of being the top superstar of a franchise and with Dirk Nowitzki aging, Dallas would be viewed as Howard's team. Howard also believes the Mavericks can build a championship roster around him with the ample cap space they will have in the summer of 2014.

Some close to Howard believe signing with Houston is his best option. Howard has been in contact with Rockets players James Harden and Chandler Parsons, both of whom are heavily recruiting him.

Howard, however, has concerns about the Rockets' style of play, sources say. While he likes the idea of playing for Coach Kevin McHale, he sees that they play an up-tempo, perimeter-oriented style that does not feature post play.

To get Howard, the Rockets will have to convince him that they will play a style more conducive to his skills.

Atlanta, Howard's home town, is a long shot. As ESPN.com reported two weeks ago, Howard was willing to go to Atlanta with Clippers free agent Chris Paul. But the recent signing of Doc Rivers as the Clippers' head coach has assured that Paul will remain in Los Angeles.

Howard would love to do a sign-and-trade deal that would allow him to play with Paul and the Clippers, but neither he nor the Clippers believe the Lakers will agree to such a move, sources said.

The Wolves continue to try to move up higher in the draft to land either Victor Oladipo or Ben McLemore. The latest rumbles have them reaching out to the Magic, Bobcats and Suns offering Derrick Williams and the No. 9 and No. 26 picks in return for Orlando's No. 2 pick, Charlotte's No. 4 pick or Phoenix's No. 5 pick.

if you're gonna throw around picks and money to contend for the next 2 years may as well do it in the most over the top way possible... I'm all for this... esp if they could somehow keep blatche and bogdanovic

I actually think shengalia has potential to be a real solid rotation player, a poor man's manu

my issue tho is pierce and jj are basically guys that will hit open shots now but can't really do much else, now u have them both, and it's hard to play uptempo like Kidd wants with more age

Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, Marshon Brooks, and three first round picks.

I'd rather trade him for a Trade Exception and the Cavs second rounders.

And start from scratch.

You probably deal:
- Rondo for #8, Knight, Stuckey's non-guaranteed deal, and top 3 protected 2014 pick.
- Jeff Green and #16 for #3, Kevin Seraphin, and Trevor Ariza and then (if Oladipo is around) deal #3 to Flip Saunders and the Wolves who are reportedly offering #9, #26, and Derrick Williams to get Victor.
- You probably see if you can deal Jason Terry and Avery Bradley for something. Maybe a late first and an expiring deal.

You move forward with #8, #9, #26, Knight, Lee, Ariza, Williams/Sullinger, Fab/Seraphin and win 12 games and pray you win the lotto and land Wiggins.

In response to Reply # 109

Unless NJ sends us unprotected picks (which would have to be 2014, 2016, and 2018 since you can't trade back-to-back future picks), it's not a great value.

In the Cleveland deal, we'd get a trade exception that could be used to nab Josh Smith or Paul Millsap in sign-and-trades.

In this deal, we get an overpaid Crash Wallace who's going to be pissed about riding the pine behind Jeff Green or having to play PF.

Celtics would then be able to make a sign-and-trade for Josh Smith or Paul Millsap with the traded player exception.

This is definitely nicer to Paul but I'd rather have a better team and Paul in Cleveland.
