"Poll question: Ironman 1 & 2 or BBegins & TDK?"

there was a thread in 08 comparing the first two. now that all 4 have been released, i'm curious to see as to what series you guys prefer.

in my opinion, its Ironman by twelve thousand million light years (c) Stephen Hawking

seriously. if that "get off my set!!" motherfucker intrigued you more than RDjr then you are just a blind Batman lover.

Liam fucking NEESON? barehanded asswhooping of a full suited Batman? "we sacked Rome!!" get the fuck out of here please.

TDK was decent. even though it forgot it was a movie about a crybaby rich kid who wanted a city prosecutor to take his place. fuckin quitter.

Ironman, as a superhero, is 10x better than Batman. again, Liam Neeson almost knocked his ass out on that train. Ironman would annihilate him.

i've had this debate with my friends and im the only one who likes the Ironman series over the Batman series, but hopefully some of you on here agree with me.

Poll result (57 votes)
Ironman (11 votes)Vote
Batman (46 votes)Vote

Right now, I'd say it's a no brainer in favor of Batman but The Dark Knight also didn't have to set up a third movie like IM2 did.

I don't see why the movie deserves a pass just because bad choices were made on some executive level.

It hurt the movie overall, but Iron Man is still the better movie franchise to me

And Iron Man isn't heads and shoulders better than either Batman movie to make up the difference.

Although both pale in comparison to the first two Superman movies (and maybe even X-Men and Spiderman.)

I'm not really pitting the artistic merits of 2 superhero movies against each other. For me it's more about which comic book fantasy world I want to inhabit for a couple of hours. The Iron Man films are just more fun to watch, plain and simple. I'd rather tag along with that dude than brooding ass, growling, getting-outshined-in-his-own-damn-movie Batman.

The dumb batman groul, the terrible women actresses, the end of TDK with the voice over and Batman running from the law. The whole Joker plot to get caught, only to escape was beyind ridiculous as well. The ultimate killer is Batman takes itself way way too serious.

Oh and all the stupid fan boys dressing up like Joker = huge L.

not to be all "but it happens in the comics" on you, but cmon. have you never followed batman before? there were plotholes with the execution of joker's plan, of course, but as far as a plan goes, it makes sense for him.

>Oh and all the stupid fan boys dressing up like Joker = huge

lol, and people dress up like Boba Fett, yet i still enjoy star wars. nolan didn't dress those people.

the studio tried to build up a love interest for Batman, as is required in all major releases, but Begins had a staid Katie Holmes and The Dark Knight didn't improve her with a boring and not-Bruce-Wayne-hot Maggie Gyllenhaal.

he's Batman! mfer ain't losing his shit over some plain jane assistant in city court.

she was just sooo ugly. that shit was hard to look at. katie holmes is annoying as fuck but at least she's good to the eyes. when the joker said "you ARE beautiful" that's the point i knew he was truly demented and insane.

>he's Batman! mfer ain't losing his shit over some plain jane
>assistant in city court.
that part i could actually buy since the billionaire playboy persona is for show, it would take someone without the flash who has history or some deeper connection for him to care. but DAMN why she gotta be so ugly?

it didn't mess up the movie for me, perhaps that's why she had to die to bring in something hot next time.

so i'll refrain from voting until i do.

however, one question?

for all the stupid things people say happened in TDK, why has no one mentioned how dumb it was that stane left tony alive in his house which allowed pepper to save him?

ras-al ghoul leaving bruce alive made sense because fair was fair and there was a code to that. other than that, bats never got hemmed up by anybody like that.

but stane tried to murk out stark on multiple occasions, why not finish it for certain?

if you're gonna tax TDK for anything, CANNOT let IM off the hook for that bullshit.

If it's Bale vs. RDJr. Then the Downy got this. His acting and character is far more interesting and fun to see.

As for the villains. See, Batman got this. I didn't care about the Iron Man villains. If you ask me what was the difference between the two in IM and IM2? Then again you can also asked about Ra's Al Ghul and The Joker.

Overall I think it comes down to hype. I guess TDK met the hype.

During The Dark Knight vs. Iron Man debates, a lot of cats here were claiming the Iron Man sequel would end up being better than The Dark Knight. And that the only reason The Dark Knight was winning the debate vs. Iron Man was because of the it's unfair to compare an origin story with one that didn't have to waste anytime setting up one.

Well...turn the chapter a few years later & what's the excuse now?

For the record I actually prefer both origin flicks being compared here to their sequels. But for all gripes & complaints about The Dark Knight (some valid, some silly) it's still slaughtered Iron Man 2 on every level.

Even Emily Blunt wouldn't have saved it.

Iron Man was as great an origin movie as I can think of. Better than Batman Begins for sure. It got compared to TDK because it came out a month before, but the first IM was the entire shit - and mostly because as a character, Tony Stark is the shit. He's not boring, and you're not just waiting for him to become his superhero character.

See I didn't find Bale boring as Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins. I loved the set up stuff with him & Liam Nesson, Morgan Freeman, & of course Michael Caine. RDJ clearly had the better performance between the two leads. But when I consider everything else in terms of direction, supporting performances, (don't sleep on Cillian Murphy) cinematography, score, etc...etc...I still prefer Batman Begins.

i agree...i think Bruce Wayne got a lil' boring in TDK but in Begins he was awesome and the overall movie was better than Iron Man if you ask me. Dont get me wrong, I loved Iron Man and RDJ was incredible in it but he alone is the one thing that stands up higher than anything else in Begins...the rest of the cast was fairly forgettable. He really carried that movie but Begins had alot more going for it then its leading man.

Clark Kent's boring, Peter Parker is a dweeb, even Bruce Wayne is kind of stiff. Yeah, he'll whisk an entire ballet troupe off at the drop of a hat but he's tortured and it seems like he's living the high life as a front and not really enjoying it.

Stark loves his money, owns is rakishness, and is basically doing what most people would do if they were a wealthy, superhero - livin' it up.

On the other hand, Iron Man has the worst villains. The villains are basically people just like Iron Man. It's Tony Stark's partner with an Iron Man suit. Now it's the bitter Russian scientist with an Iron Man suit.

This is my problem with the franchise, especially the first one. i never really thought he had competition and Obadiah wasn't that exciting a villain.

there is no excuse!!! TDK is more of a decent crime drama than a SUPERHERO MOVIE. TDK tried being Law and Order Crybaby Douche Unit. and failed miserably. like I said, a superhero tried quitting in order to pursue a woman who on a good day looks like the back of an orange '87 Toyota Corolla. really? Superheros try and turn over their duties to city prosecutors now? can you address that for me.

it doesnt slaughter anything!!! at all. the Joker was good, but Get Off My Set was even WORSE than in BBegins. if your Superhero sucks, the movie sucks. and although I2 didn't utilize Mickey Rourke as much as i'd like, he was still really good. the action scenes were awesome. and you know you laughed a lot too. this movie was the total package. Law and Order was dull, too long, and used parts of DAREDEVIL to try and look cool. please.

at his core, batman is a detective, and crime-fighter. bats is heroic, not a superhero. he is very often portrayed as an anti-hero. he may not be the "superhero" that iron man is, but he is the more likely to set an objective and see it through to the end. iron man 2 didn't even contain that many heroic moments. rdj barely even put on the suit. think about it. the only time he was ever in danger was when he had the short battle with mickey in the beginning, then the battle at the end.

the movies were neck & neck with the origin stories, but iron man 2 (though i did enjoy it overall), fell way short of its mark. though i am a fan of both franchises ... bb, and tdk lays down a whole lotta guano on the iron man movies.

I can respect that opinion as Ironman was pretty great. but BB + TDK together are better than IM 1 + 2 together, as IM 2 wasn't really up to par.

If I hear one more motherfucker talking about who's "more fun" and how many times a rapper quotes them, or who's life one would rather have....

every male born before 1992 knows the difference between batman and ironman. why all of a sudden this has become a bleeding vagina fest of "who makes me feel better" is BEYOND me.

within their universes, both characters and movies have WORKED, period. they should be judged accordingly. you fucking think batman is now a wisecracking happy go lucky dude? compare their respective origins and places at life when they became their personas..

i mean shit i'm not explaining this to you dumb fucks who don't get it.

i was going to post my comments after seeing Iron Man 2 but at this point this shit has gotten so vaginal i don't even give a fuck.

I'd say it's even. They both achieve what they want to achieve.

But Iron Man 2 is probably worse than both.

Either way, to try to determine which is "more" successful on the whole is kind of a moot point when overall both succeeded so immensely, flaws and all.

but I'm not sure the Iron Man series knows where it's going, or if it wants to be anything more than a lead-in to the Avengers. The Batman series, even with its flaws (technically because of them with gordon's whole speech at the end), feels like it's still going somewhere. We shall see, but I think the Batman series is winning right now.

In response to Reply # 0

better storyline I thought. I go with Batman Begins. Dark Knight went on too long whereas Iron Man 2 had weak fight scenes.

Overall I lean towards Batman. I could be biases since I understand the batman story/characters a little more and therefore able to pick up on the subtle comic book references. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the Avengers/Iron Man universe.
