And Cage was great as the awkward hero in The Rock.

The Rock is better for "What kind of FUCKED UP tour is this?!" alone.

Also, Ewan Mcgregor is an immediately L in any American film. That guy has an amazing knack for picking shitty films.

People are hating on Cage today because he's making decisions on par with Ewan Mcgregor's entire career. Ewan - Danny Boyle = garbage.

the island is where he really tried to do something a little bit different from his norm (other than Pearl Harbor - but at least the Island is watchable).

The Island doesn't start with a big action scene, and is fairly slow-moving (for a Michael Bay movie) in the first 40-45 minutes. it's crazy stylish, with the greens and blues he uses. BUT, the script is awful. and i'm not using that as an excuse for Bay, because i bet he had a lot of input on it.

i think it is a better movie than people give it credit, but it is more interesting as a failure of Bay trying to make a serious movie than anything else. i also think that if it had a better climax (the fight and strangling shit was WEAK), it would have a much better rep. that car chase (and everything in the city for that matter) was really good.

i think transformers is better - it successfully does what it's trying to do.

you're right about bad boys though, and armageddon is terrible.

BUT the rock is great. i watched it again a couple weeks ago, and the last 15 minutes or so is still some really intense stuff. it is much better than the island, which i watched recently too.

don't let you acutally see what's going on in the fights, and other than that movie blah, not really good or bad.
I watched the rock and the island in the last week, they're among the relatively few dvds I own, I think the rock is pretty cheesy when connery isn't on screen

i get that criticism of the action in transformers, but i thought it worked fine. but the most memorable shots are the ones where you can see what's going on, so you do have a point.

and you can't really hold the rock to a really high standard, because it's just an action movie (same with the island). i think the rock is better than most modern action movies, even with the corny stuff. the three leads all kill it, and sort of gloss over any real problems with the script. plus, outside of a few things in that control room, it doesn't really look too dated considering it's almost 15 years old.

i think the rock is far superior to the island, but i do like the island. it just wasn't as deep as bay thought it was or was trying to make it be, and that's where it crashes. it is an entertaining movie no doubt, but the rock is much better in my mind.

and the lack of ScarJo's tits wasn't the only thing wrong with The Island

I'm not ready to declare that his career is misunderstood (he does put out too much shitty product as a director AND producer), but I almost agree with SoulHonky's ratings... and I'd put Bad Boys II higher up (THAT was the movie that coasted by on the strength of its leads)

Naw fam. Both Bad Boys are way better & you can't just chalk it up to the leads. Of course Ewen & Scar don't hold a candle to Will & Martin, but the supporting performances, action, humor, etc...are all much better in the Bad Boys flicks. The Island sinks when Sean Bean's not on screen.

...makes me think she had second thoughts afterward and won't do it now.

For that alone, Michael Bay should be neutered. Though I will give him credit for making The Rock (which is a truly great action film, almost Die Hard good in my opinion) and then a string of dumbass, incredibly enjoyable action movies.

I actually think that Pearl Harbor was one of his better ones. Sure it had explosions, but it had a ton of acting talent, a great historical storyline and a real love story.
