Interesting episode. Well acted and you can tell it's building towards something. The pacing on the "realistic" war series/movies always seems weird to me, but I guess it's always important to show how fucking boring it can be to be a soldier sometimes.
I think it's gonna take another episode to figure out who all the character's are. Aside from Garza and the reporter, most of them look like square-jawed white guys to me. And I still think of them as "Ziggy" or "Beecher" or whatever roll I associate them with.
By the way, did Officier Bad Hair from The Wire have a brief appearance in this epsiode? I thought I saw him in one of the Godfather's meetings.

i'm about a quarter of the way through. so far it seems to be pretty faithful to the text. i think if i hadn't read any of it, i'd think a lot of the stuff was over-acting, or sensationalized, especially person (the driver of colbert's humvee). all-in-all, i'm really liking the series so far. though there are some parts that need some explaining unless you're familiar with marine lingo or have read some of the book.

I'ma have to peep it again just to catch the chunks of stuff that I missed...
Also, I'd like to do a post-per-episode, like we did for The Wire and The Sopranos... so this is the post for episode 1, "Get Some"... ________________________________________________________________________ *by request*
(note to the usual tUoOS debaters, this will most likely be my final appearance in this post, so there's no use trying to start an argument... thnx)
between january and may i watched the whole of the sopranos and then the wire on dvds and online for the first time. so waiting each week for a new episode of this is going to seem like hell.

like when they were talking bout J-lo being killed. You could hear someone saying she was mexican then someone said mexicans are tropical puerto ricans. I fell the fuck out. So many funny moments thrown in the background.

To catch some of the background stuff - some of it is pretty funny. But I mainly wanted to see what the mustache Nazi was saying during a few of his lines. Haha it didn't even help seeing what he was saying something about unfucking yourself. I like the way that character pluralizes every word and says Americee.

I just watched this and I'm about to watch ep. 2, but this definitely is working on the right tone for me. You can really tell the Wire influence. It was a great setup episode and the main point is already perfectly clear: This war was mismanaged from the top (ya of course) but what's great is that in typical Simon fashion this point isn't shoved in your face. The people grab our attention and then you leave thinking about the institutional criticism, I can't wait for more.
