he's my favorite so far.
385413, Guess its time to call Comcast and re-order HBO
Posted by doberman, Sat Jul-12-08 02:03 PM
Cause after the Wire was over. I canceled that shit. I owe it to Burns and Simon, and it looks like its getting good reviews.

I LOL'ed hard @ Ziggy singing Skater Boy.
385692, "They did not give a sit-rep on the status of J-Lo"
Posted by mrhood75, Sun Jul-13-08 09:28 PM
Interesting episode. Well acted and you can tell it's building towards something. The pacing on the "realistic" war series/movies always seems weird to me, but I guess it's always important to show how fucking boring it can be to be a soldier sometimes.

I think it's gonna take another episode to figure out who all the character's are. Aside from Garza and the reporter, most of them look like square-jawed white guys to me. And I still think of them as "Ziggy" or "Beecher" or whatever roll I associate them with.

By the way, did Officier Bad Hair from The Wire have a brief appearance in this epsiode? I thought I saw him in one of the Godfather's meetings.
385693, That was Officer "Chilibowl Haircut" Collichio
Posted by Marauder21, Sun Jul-13-08 09:31 PM
He was in all of Godfather's meetings.
385701, oh and i just know that tromblay guy is not gonna make it out alive
Posted by thegodcam, Sun Jul-13-08 10:08 PM
he seems too inoocent
385724, and i also know my fav charater will prolly b the latino cat
Posted by thegodcam, Sun Jul-13-08 11:34 PM
he looks like he aint afraid 2 speak his mind
385738, "the marines are like america's little pit bull"
Posted by Mynoriti, Mon Jul-14-08 03:18 AM
"you beat it, mistreat it, and every now and then you let it out to attack someone"

good shit. so far, so good. gotta watch it again to get into specifics.
385739, man this is just like the stories my brother told me
Posted by RobOne4, Mon Jul-14-08 03:48 AM
especially with them having to spend all their own money. I know he dropped around 2 G's on extra body armor. Fucking unreal.

the show looks very good so far. Zig is killing me.
385774, Great episode. Looks like it'll be a hell of a series.
Posted by DeadMike, Mon Jul-14-08 09:45 AM
I did have a little problem keeping up with who everyone was but I'll rewatch this episode before the next one.

So what was up with that dude driving the Humvee in the beginning. Did he just pass out from heat exhaustion? He wasn't shot.
385812, naw, he was acting it out for the training exercise

385801, im watchin it tmrw nite. cant fuckn wait.
Posted by araQual, Mon Jul-14-08 11:28 AM
V.
385813, anyone read the book?
Posted by MigiTTy, Mon Jul-14-08 12:05 PM
i'm about a quarter of the way through. so far it seems to be pretty faithful to the text. i think if i hadn't read any of it, i'd think a lot of the stuff was over-acting, or sensationalized, especially person (the driver of colbert's humvee). all-in-all, i'm really liking the series so far. though there are some parts that need some explaining unless you're familiar with marine lingo or have read some of the book.
385916, I liked what I could pay attention to
Posted by ZooTown74, Mon Jul-14-08 07:16 PM
I'ma have to peep it again just to catch the chunks of stuff that I missed...

Also, I'd like to do a post-per-episode, like we did for The Wire and The Sopranos... so this is the post for episode 1, "Get Some"...

385929, the godfather
Posted by jdub1313, Mon Jul-14-08 08:35 PM
sounding like don corleone was pretty cool.

ziggy is just as annoying as he was in the wire season 2. hopefully he will grow on me like he did then.

you wrote for hustler? lmao.

I'm gonna rewatch sometime this week, but this looks very promising.
385937, I remember being forced to write letters to soldiers in school.
Posted by ActWon, Mon Jul-14-08 09:09 PM
So that part with the idiot from Season 2 of The Wire blacking out on the kids was hilarious to me.

It's got good dramatic scenes, but man, the widely messed-up humor makes the show required watching.

The whole episode was golden. The hype is well-deserved.
385940, great start
Posted by woe.is.me., Mon Jul-14-08 09:36 PM
you can already tell everyone wont make it, and a few characters will come to the forefront as the series progresses.
385992, heard nothing about this but glad I found out about it
Posted by jasonprague, Tue Jul-15-08 03:34 AM
looks like this is gonna be real good after watching the first episode.

PEACE
386001, very, very good
Posted by weston24, Tue Jul-15-08 06:30 AM
between january and may i watched the whole of the sopranos and then the wire on dvds and online for the first time. so waiting each week for a new episode of this is going to seem like hell.
386005, after the 2nd viewing you notice alot of the shit being said in the background
Posted by RobOne4, Tue Jul-15-08 06:58 AM
like when they were talking bout J-lo being killed. You could hear someone saying she was mexican then someone said mexicans are tropical puerto ricans. I fell the fuck out. So many funny moments thrown in the background.
386008, I used closed captions the second time
Posted by Key, Tue Jul-15-08 07:36 AM
To catch some of the background stuff - some of it is pretty funny. But I mainly wanted to see what the mustache Nazi was saying during a few of his lines. Haha it didn't even help seeing what he was saying something about unfucking yourself. I like the way that character pluralizes every word and says Americee.
386052, LOL, he sounds like Cotton Hill
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Jul-15-08 12:17 PM
386011, It was so much funny shit going on and being said in the background
Posted by b2thej, Tue Jul-15-08 07:55 AM
When that one dude was in the background marching across like a Nazi, I almost fell out
386035, So nice, I watched it twice.

386047, how much of this reminded you of "full metal jacket?"
Posted by now or never, Tue Jul-15-08 11:35 AM
i even felt like i caught a few of the same lines
might be because they're both based on marines
387946, This lived up to the hype for me
Posted by BlueNote, Mon Jul-21-08 01:28 AM
I just watched this and I'm about to watch ep. 2, but this definitely is working on the right tone for me. You can really tell the Wire influence. It was a great setup episode and the main point is already perfectly clear: This war was mismanaged from the top (ya of course) but what's great is that in typical Simon fashion this point isn't shoved in your face. The people grab our attention and then you leave thinking about the institutional criticism, I can't wait for more.
389345, Ehh . . .
Posted by Wordup, Thu Jul-24-08 01:22 PM
pretty elaborate but ehh so far
