It was pretty cool. I hope they don't go too far with the Biblical allusions and shit, because that will turn me off. The stuff with the reverend could be interesting but I hope it's not overdone. The butterflies stuff is already cheesy as hell to me (is it supposed to be?).
I do like the political stuff though (war is all about the money - corporations profiteering). It's also interesting trying to figure out the where/when/how of this alternate world.
Al Swearengen's (AKA Ian McShane) acting is superb, as usual. The young lead is good too, and getting with the king's daughter is a risky move since we know the king is down with eliminating those in his way (though David is naive and doesn't know that).
------- SPOILER for anyone who missed the first episode:
I thought it was really interesting that they made the king's son gay and closeted (despite a reputation as a womanizer). That's secretly why the king won't let him advance too far (that's the reason he gets snubbed for military promotions), and they're setting up a power struggle/coup from within the family.
I'm not totally sold, but I'll keep watching for now.

You know thats the basis of the story no? It is the modern telling of the story of David.. Its the whole point of the show.. To put a modern twist on it.. Supposedly from reviews of the first four episodes, its going to be dope.. We'll see though..
and when i can im gonna build a castle that touches the clouds, not to get closer to god but to get further from y'all
That was basically pretty close to the biblical version as you can go.. even the names.. and the kings son in the bible was similar.. according to historical evidence..

The main character and his girlfriend just don't have any sort of life or personality. I'm supposed to root for them but Ian McShane's King blew them out of the water and he was really the only person I gave a damn about.
They didn't really establish the world well either. I really have no idea how big the kingdom is or what the deal is with Gath. And why are tanks so hard to beat when there's also an airforce?
It was OK but I can't see myself bothering to watch it again.

And by unbelievable, I mean I'm not buying it (not unbelievable as in "wow that's cool").
Still, it's pretty cool overall and held my attention for the hour. I like that the deposed former king is being kept in prison while everyone thinks he'd dead. Very curious what the backstory is there - what information was the king trading him in exchange for his hidden gold? And I can't wait to know the lead chick's secret too.
From what I've read though, the show won't last as the ratings are very low.
