Just barely. I’d tie him and Elec. Actually probably tied with Mos too. That was a pretty even song (even though Kweli got dusted IMHO). Wish Cole would step in the ring more often with emcees closer to his weight class or above.

Very basic rhyme scheme and flow.

That was one of my first experiences w/Cole and I immediately thought he didn't belong on the song with the other guys hah.

He’s generic CAR(create a rapper)number 6.

Not horrible, just....there’s not much there. I have no idea how he got his rep up like this. He likely hasn’t rapped with Phonte because he’d get waxed.

Yes, I just listened to his new album. Like always....that’s it??

He also put out a heartfelt BLM song (that he never put on an album). Most of his album discography would land him in the C plus category in the golden era, but he sounds great next to a lot of his contemporaries. He has a couple of different flows. I hear his last album is his best, likely because he produces far fewer beats on it than his other releases.

LOL at TV show they can’t clear songs.

He’s the kind of guy who would say he idolized, say, Canibus, but wouldn’t get on a song with him, even now, because he would probably get burned (even though that guy isn’t in peak 97 form, I think he’d show out if given an opening).

Peace,

I bought his debut album on CD and liked it well enough.

I was more than willing to get behind him. It seems like he’s generally considered “the guy” as far as pure rapping goes, and I just don’t really get it. I’ve never loved any of his projects or really connected with more than a few songs off them.

Maybe I’m just missing it as a listener and I’m “wrong”. Every artist isn’t for everybody,

I feel kinda bad if I went too hard up above. I wish him well and will keep occasionally trying to see if his music fully starts to click for me.

there’s ALWAYS something you haven’t heard, to explore. I’ve never even heard of Bas. This was dope. Cole saying “free ya miiiiind…” was kinda grating, but he blacked out on his verse.

I thought his flow and rhyme scheme was hella elementary on that track. *shrugs*

Like DJR said, every artist isn't for everybody. And I agree with his assessment in that I root for Cole and am glad someone like him is at the forefront of hip hop in terms of popularity and sales. He seems like a good dude and is clearly very talented.

I just can't get into his music, have never been able to.
