his mom was smart enough to get his own mgmt/deal/lawyers
funny tidbit that he didn't wanna meet 3stacks(same lawyer)
all those 'fuck earl's mom' chants probably strained his relationship with the group.
she did what any liberal/upper middle class mom would do, send him away to boarding school for smoking weed & and acting up in school

Every "industry" decision that the crew has made so far (with the obvious assistance of experienced managers and others) has been so on point. Earl will have the ability to grow and get as big as he can, while seemingly being free to work with the rest of OF at will. And i'm even more excited that he mentioned specifically those 3 albums that I have been anticipating even before he left (EarlWolf and Sweaty Martians, and the solo).

Im predicting dude is going to blaze past and immediately reach the discussion of best in the new class of rappers, head to head with Kendrick, Krit, etc...Honestly its biased and maybe delusional but hes really one of my favorite MC's of all time to listen to. I can't think of many verses that get many as amped as Kill or Earl.

That's just it -- they have better managers. They aren't
intrinsically any more savvy than Tribe Called Quest at
the same stage. They just have decades of mistakes that
others made to learn from, and thousands of lawyers and
agents in place to better educate them.

Well, we can dress it up however we want, but its a back
handed slap to OF, because he's not on their imprint.

Sure, he's free to "work with them" but is his own solo
artist.

If I was Tyler, I'd be pissed (and no matter what he says,
he is).

Earl is as gifted a young MC as I've heard in a long, long,
time.

He needed to get out of OF's grip, though.

Come the fuck on. Before even being signed/managed by anyone they were already making smart moves ahead of the curve of most of their peers. Tyler assembled a cohesively well thought out idea and aesthetic with an internet presence that when new comers first got hip to could lead them down the rabbit hole in a way that was really exciting. And to say that all the ideas that they've come up with since being managed have been 100% the work of their representation is completely asinine. A touring pop up shop, all the side projects and producers/rappers theyve worked with as selectively as they have, the TV show, the clothing line, the blog, etc... Most credit should go to Tyler, lets be honest.

I can agree with you on this. Thats why he needed to be on his own with the ability to work with OF at will. He's not like the other members of the group outside of Tyler and Frank who work better as part of a larger whole. He's going to be touring alone eventually, and down the line should not be limited by signing the same deal as everyone else. But I think your overstating the drama in this, Tyler and Earl are best friends any way you slice it.

LMAO.

I'm not here to discuss friendships. That's their personal
business, and I don't care about that the same way you
fags do.

I'm saying that Tyler had a label, where every single OF
rapper was signed.

Earl did not sign to that label.

Its a clear indication of how he feels about how close
his ties have to be to the group.

Of course he needs to be able to use the logo, etc. That's
how he built his following and brand.

But he did not sign to the actual label.

You guys are just going to have to cry about it.

There was talk previously so I googled a few tracks. I wasn't really feeling it. It honestly might have been my bias against OF that swayed my opinion. I recognize the talent, but far too often them dudes just go to far with the subject matter. I wanna give Earl another shot though since his name keeps popping up.

Can y'all link up a few suggestions? Thanks.

His verse is so much better than everyone else's, its
hilarious. He's literally a man amongst boys in OF.

The minute I heard that verse, I was like:

"Yeah, his days fucking with these dudes are numbered."

He's just not signed to their label.

Its not a trivial thing.

He explicitly decided to go in his own direction.

And he already alienated himself in terms of content.

"He’ll have his own imprint, Tan Cressida, to be distributed through Columbia. That places him in the Sony system alongside Odd Future, which was one of his priorities. He turned down offers with significantly higher advances and made sure that his contract allowed him to put the Odd Future logo on his albums. “I want it to look seamless,” he said. As for his mother’s concerns, “She knows she’s got nothing to worry about.”"

He's not on OF's label, he has his *own* imprint.

He explicitly decided not to sign to OF's imprint.

You guys are such sensitive fags. Of course he liks
OF and will make music with them.

But he did explicitly decide to not sign *with*
OF. All of the other OF rappers are signed to OF's
label. Earl is not.

Frank Ocean is the other OF member not signed to
the imprint, but that's because Ocean was already
signed.

Early *decided* to not sign with OF.

where he reviewed less money so he could put the OF logo on his releases.

You hopped on the backlash train too early and are now stuck between two 400 pound Termanology fans with horrible Cheetoh breath who keep muttering about "Real Hip Hop." You should really be practicing your spin for the 180 you perform when Tyler's next album comes out.

I guess I'd be upset if I were you too

Earl had the chance to sign to OF"s label, decided
not to.

Its really not that serious and there's no reason
for you to be upset about it.

>where he reviewed less money so he could put the OF logo on
>his releases.

No, he took less *advance* money and the only reason wasn't
the OF logo thing -- other labels would love to profit from
OF's name.

But the crux of the matter is that he didn't sign to OF's
label with the rest of the OF rappers.

>You hopped on the backlash train too early and are now stuck

LOL -- Tyler's last project as awful. Earl is literally
the best thing to happen to this collective, and he just
signed a record deal outside of OF records.

OF has a label.

All of the rappers in OF are signed to the label,
except one:

Earl.

Earl could have signed to their label.

Earl decided to not sign to their label.

Okay, so we'll try this gain:

Tyler, Left Brain, Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis,
Mike G, Syd the Kid, and every other other core
Odd Future member not named Frank Ocean (who had a deal
before they blew up) is signed to Odd Future records.

Its really not that complicated: All the Odd Future
members are signed to Odd Future records (again,
save Ocean, who had a deal before OF records was
created).

When Earl came back from Samoa, he didn't have
a record deal and Odd Future records existed.

Earl does not sign to Odd Future records.

He signs to his own imprint.

Not with every other rapper in Odd Future.

You Odd Future fans are so sensitive, you can't
interpret the basic facts:

a) He explicitly did not sign with Odd Future for
a reason. What that reason is, I don't know, but he
could have signed with OF's label and didn't.

b) Of course he had to sign a deal that enabled him
to use the imagery, because the imagery and their
marketing while he was away is how he built his brand.
He has to continue to do that, at least for a little
while.

But he DID NOT SIGN with their label and that's a clear
indication of how he thinks about himself relative to
the collective.

You guys just have to admit it.

I know its hard, but breathe bit. All things can be
accomplished through some people's lord and savior
jesus christ or, alternatively, you not being mad.

His mother/the school had already set him up with separate established management/lawyers while he was away who were already working on deals.

Also Mellowhype (Hodgy Beats/Left Brain) released their record on Fat Possum last year outsidee of the imprint. I believe they are still signed to it.

And there's a long line of hip-hop artists signed to different separate imprints (remember the Wu-Tang). But please continue to moonwalk up and down these OF posts it's been entertaining for the past few months, lol.

LMAO!!!

So we're still blaming his momma?

Earl could have signed with OF's label if he wanted
to sign with OF's label.

The article didn't say shit about him having no rights.

The article said that plans were being made. Nothing could
be done if he didn't want to, because he's 18 years old and
can do whatever the fuck he wants. The reason he still listens
to his mom is because he likes her, which is why he's supported
her decision to send him away. He didn't start the 'Free Earl'
campaign. Tyler did.

>Also Mellowhype (Hodgy Beats/Left Brain) released their record
>on Fat Possum last year outsidee of the imprint. I believe

They signed that before the OF deal was finalized.

>And there's a long line of hip-hop artists signed to different

Wu-Tang didn't have their own record label and individually
had eons more earning potential than the individual members
of OF. The reason the OF deal was collective is because their
strength is in their cohesion. The Wu was much different.

Nobody cares about most of OF. OF is a lot more top heavy
than Wu-Tang was. Mike G and Domo, at this stage, are completely
irrelevant without the collective.

Except for Earl, who is eons more talented than everyone
else and has the power to be like "I'm good, y'all." Ocean too.
Its no coincidence that the two most talented members aren't
fucking with the collective label.

but I think I'm more interested in his *story*. I wasn't following it all as it happened, but to come out with that kind of wordplay and build that kind of buzz for yourself, then just disappear off the map and leave all your new fans fiendin' for *any* kind of information on you, thirsty for another verse... To build up that kind of anticipation for your eventual return was just PERFECT marketing. I actually thought it was all orchestrated for a minute.

I watched the youtube video of his interview with Rosenberg early in the morning when it dropped and it had a few hundred hits. For kicks, I checked again later in the day and it was up to 67k or something crazy like that. Amazing.

It was like "Um, stfu nobody wants to hear from you,
Tyler. Let Earl talk."

Its already apparent that Earl is eons more intelligent
and insightful. Much more intriguing a figure.

Problem with Earl is that he doesn't really care
about fame the way Tyler does, which is why they
were a good team.

i was kind of unsure of their dynamic when i first watched the interview. i wondered if it was part of their "act" as friends, reminiscent of the videos they'd post on youtube before they blew up. that two friends goofing around shit.

but now in hindsight, it def seems more of Earl kind of looking at Tyler like "damn fam, calm the fuck down. let this man talk to me." Tyler, as usual comes off like an annoying attention whore.

reading about Earl swimming with whales, valunteering at the abuse shelter, and reading Dr. Marable, i wonder if he'll have a Common like shift in content from Can I borrow A Dollar to Resurrection... (maybe Res to ODIAMS is the better comparison).

either way i excited to hear the youngsters new music

He's still a young nigga who skate, smoke weed and loves
pussy and good for him.

He's just smarter than the rest of of the cats in OF
and certainly is more introverted than Tyler is, which
is a good and bad thing for his success.

Tyler's act is going to have a high rise and fall because
everyone who isn't white and suburban will grow tired of it.
Most of his fans don't even care about the music and as
soon as somebody else comes along to fill that niche they'll
move on.

Earl will attract a smaller, but more loyal fan base, because
he can actually rap, doesn't alienate real fans of music and
appears genuine.

Most of Tylers fans are annoying white kids so he is cool for a few years but when they mature and move on what will Tyler and OF do?

Will they continue to be clowns or grow up like the Beastie Boys did?

They have time but that shit catches up to you real quick, especially in the internet age.
