"Poll question: In the matter of RUN v. DMC - Court of Appeals of The Lesson"

Who was the superior MC in their heyday and why? Run was the lead but that may have had a lot more to do with personality than anything.

Poll result (13 votes)
RUN (6 votes)Vote
DMC (7 votes)Vote

they were the epitome of a well balanced group
dmc had his moments
run had his too
overall, they didn't outshine each other on songs

There's not really any that I can think of. EPMD might be the closest thing, but at least with EPMD it's a lot easier to take sides.

They both had competing events here in Indy at the same date/time at different venues during the superbowl. Even if they fell out or don't collab anymore, that's stupid.

What is it exactly that makes you feel Run is a better overall MC/Artist? I'm not disputing what you are saying, I just want more insight.

I'll just say that DMC's verses on the track "Raising Hell" are, IMHO, the best either of them kicked, and some of my personal favorite verses ever.

they were a tag-team that repeatedly finished each others lines & coalesced almost completely while at their peak.

These kinds of 'who's better' arguments in regards to a group like Run-DMC didn't even exist when they were actually at the forefront of rap music.

He said that the homies around his way all knew that DMC was the better MC. I can't recall an instance where I'd heard someone comparing the two previous to that, but admittedly I'm not the biggest fan of Run DMC.

but they did exist. most of the people i knew thought that DMC was better. i probably gravitated towards Run a little bit more back then, but i could never say that one was "better" than the other and stick to it.
