Comedy sequels that are separated by years have poor track records.
Another 48 Hours (8 years)
Beverly Hills Cop 2 (3 years)
Beverly Hills Cop 3 (7 years)
Bad Santa 2 (13 years)
Joe Dirt 2 (14 years)
Dumb and Dumber To (17 years)
Blues Brothers 2000 (18 years)

Hell most comedy sequels are just bad:
The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training
Legally Blonde 2
The Whole TEN Yards

So this being 32 years later it has a pretty good chance of not being great.

BUT I have Amazon Prime so I'll watch regardless.

You know a 2 WHITE MAN wrote the original based on an idea that Eddie Murphy stole from *yet another white man.* And a white man directed it.

And the breakout star was/is/will always be Louie Anderson.

*This* movie written by 6 people - 5 of whom are white. Also directed by a white man.

And they got Louie Anderson back. (Must of cost a pretty penny.)

Largely black cast, but this movie's white as FUCK my dude.

EDIT: I noticed the 'we' just now, pretend I replied to the message above. TIA!

You said Louie Anderson is the breakout star in a movie where Samuel L Jackson, a goddamned national treasure, debuted.

In a movie that isn't just Eddie's greatest movie, but a short list GOAT comedy, with an all black cast in the 80's.

This is a motherfucking legacy film.

It's iconic.

An all-time great.

And it's very much a Black film.

And you really made this all about the white writers, as though ANY of this works to this level without Eddie's brilliance, much less the rest of the pitch perfect (all Black, save for the token Louie)cast.

Louie did his thing in his lil role.

But the breakout star here?

I'd go as far as to say that it doesn't stand a chance of matching the first. Because the first is just that damn good, and is a cultural benchmark. It's indelible.

I think most of us who are bursting at the seams with excitement are just happy to revisit those old friends, and aren't particularly concerned with how "good" it is.

We'll all have our opinion and reaction.

But- I, and I think I speak for a fair majority of fans of this- am just here for another round of frozen, diseased, rhinocerous pizzle.

I thought it was pretty thin, and there weren’t a ton of laughs.

But me watching it opening day on Amazon should add to their numbers in the same way as if I sought in the theater.

I like almost everyone in the cast, it just wasn’t great.

Edit: Someone said it kind of seem like a parody of the first one Instead of being a continuation of the first one.

The first half felt a little slow but I really enjoyed the 2nd half after everything was set up and they could just line up the jokes / get the shit in that they wanted/needed to get in.

To me, the thing people most love about the first movie is the parade of top end one-liners. They seemed to be aware of it so they tried to get a bunch of folks who could do one-liners plus making sure to get the call-backs in as needed. And Eddie was good without trying to take the whole movie over. Arsenio too.

Aka I got what I wanted which was a movie based on the old characters, some decent enough to not fuck it up new characters, and Randy Watson doing basically anything.

Now, give me a Randy Watson Doc or short film and I’m good forever. I’m glad that folks even put the time and money into revisiting these types of movies once they look around, realize that damn near everyone is still alive, and they can come up with a decent enough script. We’re some lucky sobs.

If you know that going in, then you won't be disappointed.

Yes, it's corny.
Yes, it has slapstick comedy.
Yes, there are a lot of musical numbers.
Yes, there are a lot of celebrity cameos (like a lot).

These are the components of a family movie.
I was 10 years old when the original came out in 1988,
and I shouldn't have been allowed to watch it.
THIS movie my Mom would have probably allowed me to watch.

I was more surprised they leaned so heavily on the original.
Not just callbacks and repurposing jokes, but using THE ACTUAL FILM!
It was almost like they were doing a season recap of the 1st movie.

So yeah, it wasn't for me, but I was glad so many Black people got checks.
The original Coming To America is still the greatest comedic film of all time.

I let them watch it being that today is the last day before spring break. They were dying laughing. So it works for what it was intended.

but lets be real. Who in their right mind thought a second C2A 30 years later would be as good or better than the first.

I dont think its awful

I thought it was silly but in a good way. I’m just mad Sam Jaco wasn’t in it, prolly wanted real money for this shit. Should’ve done it for the culture.

movie as the OG, you probably will be mad.

if you accept that it's a whole differently thing, you'll probably enjoy it on a more simple level.

also, i haven't seen it, but as always, no matter the venue, it's good for black people (and white people though they just don't know it) to see black people represented in leading roles (or ROLES, period, let's be real).

more than a nostalgic trip down memory lane with heavy nodes nod to the original film you may be disappointed. People that were expecting Black Panther 2 may be disappointed.

I liked the first one and I liked this one and have watched it twice already. The combination of seeing the old faces blended in with the new faces plus all the cameos made it fun for me. Its for the culture, as addressed earlier in the post if you're not part of the culture its probably not for you.

expecting it to be every bit as good as the original - that’s crazy to me. A comedy sequel? 33 years later? Hollywood doesn’t even make those kind of comedies any more.

heres the thing, I don't think coming to america is the greatest film of all time. I think it was one of the greatest black films of all time but once people around me started saying "no other film matters, THIS IS THE FUNNIEST FILM EVER. Shut your mouth" i got turned off.

The thing this film completely misses is that the stuff in the original was funny because it was unexpected and some of it was funny for the sake of being funny i.e., non sequitur wierdness that references extremely specific people, places or things.

this film was one, big, "c'mon, do the thing...THEY DID THE THING! YAYEEEEE"

it was the film equivalent of soul cruises.

That said, I think I would really love this if it were a TV series. I would watch it to the end and back.

with a 30 year-old comedy sequel was doing to much.

If you didn't grow up with the original being a significant piece of cinema in your life for multiple reasons chances are you won't get this.

i didn't expect much, and i'm kinda anti comedy sequel as it is, mainly because of the recycled jokes and gags... and there's no shortage of that here. i chuckled that they addressed the pointlessness of them in the movie but it didn't make it any better.

Not mad at it or anything. i had a few laughs. i get why people would dig it but i'd rather just watch Coming to America lol

I issue with it is that they didn't really even try to create any new characters save General Izzi--which was great. Wesley stole the show. Otherwise all the characters (barbershop guys, preacher, randy watson) were from the original. I think they were afraid to stray too far from the original, so we ended up with less funny versions of the old jokes.

Overall I think the movie is okay... it's not great but not horrible either--its an average family/rom com. It had some funny moments, but not enough of them.

Prince Lavell? his mother? his uncle? Princess Meeka? outside of Eddie and Arsenio basically all of the main characters are new lol. Did you even watch it or just run here with a hot take?

I meant the characters...as in comedic characters not people who are playing "regular people"--much of the comedy from the original film was from the created characters, they didn't really create many this time, they just mainly used the ones they created last time.

not a stretch that the others would be alive.

In real life, the barbershop I. Went to as a kid in the 80’s was run by this guy who I thought was OLD at the time. His shop is still open over 30 years later, with him still there. He was in his 50’s back then, late 80’s now. Still cutting hair and hanging with some old guys in the shop.

Side note - around 5 years ago I was desperate for a cut and actually went back there, that was a mistake lol...

I used to go to the old barber back in the 80's when I was in elementary school. At that point he was already too old to be giving up to date cuts for kids - he was in his 50s. Classic barber shop just like in Coming to America with a couple other old guys that would all hang out there like the country club, arguing about boxing and basketball. He would rarely even cut heads - would just be sitting in his barber chair chopping it up with the guys there.

I just went there because that's where my dad got his hair cut and he'd take me there too. I started going to a younger barber around middle school. The old shop was in a location that I'd drive past all the time, and I was always shocked to see it was still open with him running the shop.

Fast forward to around 5-6 years ago. I was around 35 at the time, and was going to my wife's family's house for a 4th of July cookout. The day before the fourth I tried to get a cut from my normal barber but he was on vacation. I tried driving past a couple other black barbers in the area but they were closed too. I was desperate for a cut - going to the in-laws house for a cookout and such. I drove past the old school shop, and it was actually open, I said, eff it, how bad could it be?

He was late 80's at that point. Couple of the old guys that hung out there were still in there (so definitely reasonable in Coming 2 America). When I went in he was sitting in his chair, and was surprised as heck that I wanted a cut. I definitely should have backed out. Worst cut of my life - he used a straight razor for my lineup and his hands were NOT steady. I ended up with a jagged hairline and several cuts in my skin. I had to cut my hair all the way off.

His shop is still open now - gotta be in his early 90s.

I was hoping for something that was more humorous, but instead that was pretty sad and scary. Sounds like that could have ended way worse with someone in an advanced age operating an old school straight razor with unsteady hands. I hope that razor was sterilized at the time.

I suppose there is something positive in the story in that his shop is still open.

major plot points were Akeem's 30 year old son and aging father

in this same universe, elderly characters stayed the same age 30 years later?

this was a glaring logic fail that they didnt care about because they wanted to bring these roles back

The Simpsons can air for another 20 years because animated characters arent on linear timelines

Akeem, his wife, son, daughters, Semi, the king, and every character from the first film is 30 years older except for when Eddie is in makeup

Im not surprised the weirdos are shrugging it off though

A ton of people are dragging this movie, and I think it's mostly nostalgia for the original.

Since they have been showing to hell out of the original lately, my 16 year-old watched it, and he was mildly amused. He thought it was just okay.

I saw it in 88, and it was hilarious to me then, but I don't hold in the high "classic" category as many do. So, I didn't set the bar high for this one.

Eddie Murphy was basically the first black movie "star" as far a black man starring in big budget, blockbuster films. If you were of age during that time his movies were like events in the black community. "Did you see the new Eddie Murphy movie?" was the start of many conversations. The original CTA movie was the pinnacle of that. With an almost all black cast in some ways Zamundu was that era's Wakanda.

But as a movie it was a cheesy, hilarious rom com when you break it down. Done perfectly, but still all those things. I think this sequel did an excellent job using the exact same tone as the original. It was NEVER going to be better than the original for many reasons but mostly because of nostalgic reasons. I enjoyed the shit out of this sequel and all its call backs but let's stop pretending the original was some masterpiece in writing and direction.

Only thing i hated in the movie was the musical performances and the kid rapping. Very cringe.

it has EVERYTHING to do with what the movie is at its core..YOU just can't comprehend that. Again, case in point, you said

"Only thing i hated in the movie was the musical performances"

and those surprise performances by beloved Black artists like EnVogue and Patty Labelle would never have the same impact on someone who isn't Black

so again, fall the fuck back on overanalyzing Black cultural tings.

They were movies of their time, when there wasn't a ton of Black films out there, so they were big events. I have a nostalgic love of them as well. But, I can admit that they weren't masterpieces.

I think because we have, over the decades, elevated CTA to legendary status that C2A falls flat.

CTA was fun, funny, and has a ton of quotables, but it isn't light years ahead of this sequel. If Coming 2 America came out in 1990, it would be considered the Empire Strikes Back to CTA's Star Wars.

like the Friday sequels... or Rush Hour sequels.. or any other sequel to a Black comedy that we loved.

Coming To America is GOAT status... and yes, it only matters to Black folk. We don’t give a shit what THEY think of this movie. It isn’t for them, its for us.

In response to Reply # 110

I'm old enough to have seen CTA in the theatre, on a date, and I will acknowledge that it is a favorite of the community. But GOAT?

When it came out, it was just considered another flick in a string of Eddie Murphy movies. It wasn't even a "Black" movie necessarily. It's a John Landis joint, written by two SNL writers. I honestly don't remember it being this Black cultural phenomenon as much as it was a popular Eddie Murphy movie.

It feels like it got a resurgence once Black Panther blew up. Like we looked up and thought, "Hmmm, utopian African nation, colorful costumes and visuals...where have we seen that?...Oh yeah!"

everyone in my theatre was celebrating al that Blackness on screen.

I feel like some people are misremembering the impact this had in Black households.

My college roommate was Liberian and said the whole country was celebrating it because it finally showed Africans as royalty.

seriously, no one.. and I mean not one fucking Black person has ever been on some “ but the writers were white” while we were celebrating this movie.

Thats some white shit fam.

In response to Reply # 114

In 1988, I saw CTA at the South DeKalb Mall theatre in Decatur, GA...the experience gets no Blacker. I remember it being hilarious, everyone digging it, and me and my buddies dropping shit and yelling, "Sexual Chocolate!" for months.

What I do not remember, and I'm old, so maybe my memory doesn't serve me, is it being held up as someone type of cultural touchstone or celebration of Blackness. It was just a funny ass movie.

The movie had it's run, came to cable and I watched it a million more times, then it was just something that popped up on like TBS over the years and I would watch for my favorite scenes.

I am not saying it was not a classic, nor that it wasn't popular in the Black community, but popular and important are two different things.

I never considered it being important until the last few years, which I makes me wonder is Black Panther had us revisiting it.

it will always be in the convo for best Black comedy for obvious reasons.

The dance choreo from Debbie Gibson for the wedding is still referenced by fance educators.

pretty sure they still have a McDowells day in Queens too.

Soul Glo
Whatever You Like
Shes Your Queen song
Sexual Chocolate
You smoking crack?
Yes, Fuck You Too!!!

so many quotables and references from that movie

before Spike Lee got rolling those were the only major "black" films we had. To see someone that looks like us go from a comedian on SNL to a major movie star was a big deal. To see a major movie on tv showing Africa differently than we had seen in Roots and Shaka Zulu was a big deal.

I don't it remember being held in that high cultural esteem at the time. It was considered a big studio, mainstream comedy, and had mainstream popularity. In 1988 and shortly thereafter, Coming to America was NOT some inside shit that only we got and embraced.

It was a BIG popular comedy. The fact that we embraced it was great, but it wasn't conceived, written, produced or marketed for US per se.

If I remember correctly, the Black scholarly community even had knives out for CTA for being being culturally inaccurate, and having crude humor.

Basically, did we have too any expectations for the sequel, because we have elevated the importance of the original movie over the years?

What were the "expectations"? How many sequels have been as good or better than the original? Especially 30 years later? Sometimes people just want to see the characters again.

A big budget movie with a primarily black cast was a big deal in the 80's.

When I saw Coming 2 America it felt...to ME...that while not as funny as the first, it was a logical, serviceable, sequel to the original, maintaining the same style, pacing...etc. albeit maybe not as well written. And maybe Arsenio and Eddie are not a funny as they were 30+ years ago. It was pretty much what I expected.

However the response to it I'm seeing is like this movie is a slap in the face to a beloved, important, cultural classic.

I simply did not know we held Coming to America in THAT high esteem. I saw social media posts for C2A watch-alongs, viewing parties, folks were cosplaying on ZOOM...etc.

CTA appears to have developed a cult following and taken on a level importance, that I didn't realize. I feel like people were looking for the sequel to be special and important.

I don't see it as a cult following, but I feel for that era it was culturally important. Like I said I wasn't expecting a lot for a 30 year-old comedy sequel it was just fun to re-visit.

there has never been a film that is 99.9% Black thats marketed to everyone. How would you even come to that conclusion?

I will concede that maybe I underestimated CTA's importance to the Black community as a whole, but...

>and no, it wasn’t marketed to everyone

During that period Eddie was still EDDIE, and Arsenio was huge off of his talk show, so the movie itself was huge from a star power standpoint, and marketed as such. it had a huge marketing push, but it wasn't a Black marketing push. It was marketed as a movie starring the biggest box office attraction at the time, directed by one of the biggest directors at the time, John Landis, co-starring one of the biggest TV stars at the time as well.

It might have the same reverence in the community as Friday. But completely different movies in how they were greenlit, marketed and recieveds. Friday was some mad indie shit, that took off. From a cultural perspective I give Friday more love, in that it was a movie that ice cube made, out of his pocket pretty much specifically for us, and it struck gold.

In the '80s, Eddie Murphy movies were sold on the basis of being Eddie Murphy movies. The fact that Coming to America had a mostly Black cast, while not irrelevant, was not the focus. in 1988 It was one of the biggest movies of that summer, which means that everybody, not just black folks went to see that movie.

hes not saying John Landis IS the essential element, but that Eddie Murpohy was the essential element and his appeal at his peak was broad. John Landis being included signifies the broad appeal understanding from the studio's perspective vs. Friday which was self writen, produced, directed.

A John Landis Film...

Bruh, Animal House, Blues Brothers, Trading Places, Thriller. In the '80s, the only director maybe bigger than John Landis was Steven Spielberg.

You're definitely discounting how important that was back then.

I couldn't care less where Landis' name appears.

People don't associate CTA with Landis.

This is an Eddie, Arsenio, and James Earl Jones vehicle.

I don't think people associate him with this film the way, say, they associate John Hughes with The Breakfast Club.

Coming To America is an iconic film and is immediately linked to Eddie in the minds of most. At best, for most, Landis gets an "oh yeah, he did that".

This is an Eddie movie, through and through.

No one gave a shit about John Landis being the director besides film geeks

We dont give a shit about the directer or writers for the original. All we care about is the visuals, jokes and impact.

and I love Trading Places but never knew who directed it because I never cared.

Beverly Hills Cop
48 hours

Trading Places

I could never tell you who directed those films. They are just Eddie Murphy movies to me.

Landis was a huge name but his career was in the shitter after that Twilight Zone thing and a few flops.

Here's a excerpt from Eddie's old Playboy interview about it. They beefed hard through the whole thing.

Rensin, David. "Playboy Interview: Eddie Murphy." Playboy Feb. 1990.

PLAYBOY: You could have directed Coming to America but didn't. Why?

MURPHY: I wanted to help out Landis. I figured I'd give this guy a shot because his career was fucked. But he wound up fucking me.

PLAYBOY: What happened?

MURPHY: As it turned out, John always resented that I hadn't gone to his Twilight Zone trial. I never knew that; I though we were cool. But he'd been harboring it for a year. Every now and then, he would make little remarks, like, "You didn't help me out; you don't realize how close I was to going to jail." I never paid any mind.

PLAYBOY: Did you think he was guilty?

MURPHY: I don't want to say who was guilty or who was innocent. But if you're directing a movie and two kids get their heads chopped off at fucking twelve o'clock at night when there ain't supposed to be kids working, and you said, "Action!" then you have some sort of responsibility. So my principles wouldn't let me go down there and sit in court. That's just the way I am. If somebody in my family was guilty of something, I wouldn't sit there for them in a courtroom and say, "You've got my support." Fuck that. The most it would be is, "Hey, you go work that out. I still love ya; I'm still your friend."

PLAYBOY: So you hired Landis out of friendship despite thinking he'd been irresponsible?

MURPHY: Yes. He'd done four fucked-up movies in a row and I knew he'd spent a lot of money on his trial. I went to Paramount and said I wanted to use Landis. But they had reservations: His career was fucked up. But I said, "I'm gonna use Landis." I liked the guy. I used to always say that the one fun experience I had with a director--and I've worked with directors I really liked: Marty Brest, Walter Hill, Tony Scott--was with Landis, because he plays around a lot on the set. I made Paramount hire him.

PLAYBOY: Was he grateful?

MURPHY: He came in demanding lots of money. Paramount was saying, "Hey, come on, Eddie, we're getting fucked here," but I made them pay his money. They bent over backward. But after he got the job, he brought along an attitude. He came in with this "I'm a director" shit. I was thinking, Wait a second, I fucking hired you, and now you're running around, going, "You have to remember: I'm the boss, I'm the director."

One of his favorite things was to tell me, "When I worked with Michael Jackson, everyone was afraid of Michael, but I'm the only one who would tell Michael, 'Fuck you.' And I'm not afraid to tell you, 'Fuck you.'" And sure enough, he was always telling me, "Fuck you, Eddie. Everybody at Paramount is afraid on you."

PLAYBOY: Is everybody afraid of you?

MURPHY: I don't know. But I still figured, Well, good! Because there's no way they're gonna respect me. They can't respect me. I was twenty-six years old. Imagine me in the office of a fifty-year-old guy in a suit. Naturally, he'd look at me, a kid, talking about "I want to do it this way," and he'd say, "Yeah, right. Sure, sure." Then on top of that, I'm this black man making demands. He'd look down his nose at me. So if I don't have his respect, at least let me have some fear. Let me have something.

PLAYBOY: But Landis just gave you grief?

MURPHY: It got worse and worse. What first put a bad taste in my mouth about him was when, after he hired Shari Headley and all these other people, I said I wanted to take everybody to dinner. I didn't know anybody. But Landis grabbed Headley and said, "You stay away from Eddie. Don't go near him, because he's gonna fuck you and ruin my movie. He just wants your pussy." I'm thinking, Wait, ooohhh, nooo, that has nothing to do with being a fucking director. He's control freak. Just assuming that I was trying to get the pussy is one thing; and even if I was trying to get the pussy, for him to try to stop me from getting it because he was directing the movie.... He's got a lot of nerve. Plus, it wasn't even about pussy.

PLAYBOY: Did you confront him?

MURPHY: I kind of ignored it. But every day, it was a new "I told Michael, 'Fuck you'" story.

Then, one day, I had these two writers who did the screenplay for Coming to America with me. They were writing a TV show called What's Alan Watching? that my company was producing. They were at our location in New York, and Landis was asking them, "Why are you guys here?" They said, "We're working on something for Eddie." And he said , "The production's not picking that up." And they said, "No, we're working through Eddie's company. Right now, we're waiting for the deal to go through." And Landis said, "So you're not being paid yet? That company should be paying you! Don't come to New York unless you're being paid."

The whole crew was standing around--extras and actors--and Landis started screaming. "Don't be afraid to ask Eddie Murphy for his money. You go up and ask for your fucking money!" I walked in and he said, "Eddie! Your company is fucking these guys out of their money! Guys, don't be afraid to go up to Eddie and say, 'Fuck you!'" He's screaming about my deal making in front of the cast.

PLAYBOY: What did you do?

MURPHY: I playfully grabbed him around the throat, put my arm around him and I said to Fruity, one of my guys, "What happens when people put my business in the street?" And Fruity said, "they get fucked up." I was kind of half joking. Landis reached down to grab my balls, like he also thought it was a joke--and I cut his wind off. He fell down, his face turned red, his eyes watered up like a bitch and he ran off the set. Fuckin' punk.

PLAYBOY: Did you go after him?

MURPHY: Nah. He came to my trailer later and made this big speech. His voice was trembling. And it all came out: that he didn't think I was talented, that the only reason he did Coming to America was for money, that he didn't respect me since I hadn't gone to his trial and all this bullshit. All this fucked-up shit. Called me ignorant, an asshole.

PLAYBOY: How did you take it?

MURPHY: I'm sitting there shattered; I'm thinking, This fucking guy. I bent over fucking backward to get this guy a job. He probably won't even acknowledge what happened. He didn't realize that his fucking career was washed up. So I told him, "The next time you fuck around with me, I'm gonna whip your ass." His Hollywood shit came out then: "What do you mean, 'whip my ass'? That's not in our deal." So I said, "You're gonna have to give me either some fear or some respect. I want one of them, because this is my shit and you're working here. If the only way you can fear me is knowing that the next time you fuck up, you're gonna get your ass whipped, fine." But Landis was fucked up: "Is that a net or a true-gross ass whipping I'm gonna get? What kind of ass whipping is it?"

PLAYBOY: Would you have whipped his ass?

MURPHY: If he had fucked up again, I would have beat the shit out of him.

PLAYBOY: Even considering the consequences of a lawsuit and criminal charges?

MURPHY: The thing about an assault charge is that if you're gonna do it, make it worth it. If it had come to that--me whipping his ass--there wouldn't have been some headline like "EDDIE MURPHY PUNCHES JOHN LANDIS IN THE FACE." I'd have beat the shit out of him, put him in the fucking hospital, almost killed him. Then, when the headline read "EDDIE BEING SUED FOR ASSAULT," I'd have said , "Yeah, I did give him a horrible ass whipping; he deserves some sort of compensation, because I did beat the shit out of him."

Anyway, it worked. He was afraid of me. He'll probably never admit it, but the motherfucker was on his fucking toes for the rest of the show and didn't fuck with me for the whole rest of the picture.

Definitely not something I want to watch over and over again to experience the jokes which is usually the mark of a good comedy. But this was very Tyler Perry meets Zamunda to me.

I don't expect a good storyline in an Eddie Murphy movie.
I laughed almost all the way through. Tracy Morgan could have stayed at home though.

Critics and peeps who are thirsty for clicks will probably eat well off of bashing this movie. That's the world we live in, there's just too many angles to pick it apart.

....never saw any post that made a solid breakdown of why it was good or bad.

I was probably gonna skip it because I love the original too much for it to ever hold up. Like Rakim doing Paid in Full 2 in 2017. But I’m open to being sold if someone can actually talk about what they liked about it?

The whole cast is back, the kids in the movie were good, funny cameos, the new actors arent as good as the OG’s in this or the original but who is and they don’t bring down the movie. The plot is ridiculous in all the best ways. I thought they matched the tone of the original which helps make it seamless (ie Cobra Kai and Karate Kid). I enjoyed the shit out of it, fun movie for the fam. Only thing i hated was the musical performances but they don’t get in the way, just parts of the movie i could do without. Don’t go into it thinking it should be or will be better than the original and you will be fine.

First half is slow as they introduce the story and the new characters. The 2nd half is all of them laying down one-liners and acting a fool as much as they can while still finishing the story.

Besides that, to me, this comes down to perspective, appreciation and expectations.

If you can get that this is a callback vehicle for a beloved super old comedy, you'll be fine. And if you can appreciate that these folks took the time to make a sequel just cuz they were still alive and could do it, you'll enjoy it. And if you don't expect to get 30 years worth of nostalgia and goodness out of a new movie right as you're watching it, then you could/should be fine.

And really, its less than 2 hours. Scrolling twitter and being mad cuz stupid folks say stupid stuff that you don't like is a far worse use of time than revisiting Zamunda and these crazy folks dressing up and setting up goofy one-liners for general fun and enjoyment.

But if you can't appreciate that it exists and you can't go into it without some outlandish expectations that don't make sense for what the movie could reasonably be, then leave it alone and put that 2 hours on something you might actually enjoy.

Perspective. Appreciation. Expectations. That's all folks need for this. I'm confused at how tough this seems to be for so many folks and I think I get it but I can't imagine this being a healthy way to function in general. But I'm trying to help out here cuz I think it is worth it for everyone to see the old characters again for a couple of hours.
