"Poll question: Is hookah still a thing?"

It seemed like it’s popularity peaked like 10-15 years ago now the only places that have it are hood black clubs or people from past eras who have one at home.

I may have not done it right but I never got anything out of it other than the social aspect. I do cigars and cigaweed but that’s about it.

Poll result (10 votes)
Yes (4 votes)Vote
No (2 votes)Vote
I’m black (4 votes)Vote

My neighborhood has a large Ethiopian and Somali population, as well as Middle Eastern, Indian and Pakistani. So, hookah isn't a trendy thing...it's a thing.

and ^^^ those people marketed that culture heavily outside of their communities to the point that there were actual rap songs about "Pass me the hookah" but I guess I made all that up too

it remains popular it certain demographics more than others, its really not that complicated.

Certain brand gain popularity based off references in rap songs.

>or did we just jump on it late as fuck?

combination of both, those folks were running the hookah lounges that became popular with black folks, then promoter/club owner types took it to another level

but I think a lot of places that jumped on it we’re starting to move on to the next thing.

I wonder if vaping hurt the hookah industry?

I’m Charlotte there is a popular spot called Crave that was known for its hookahs and it was legit. But there were hood spots who tried and did it poorly..

But that we an Iraqi kid who used to be a housemate. First time someone told me that they were hitting up a hookah bar was probably 17 years ago. That's when they started popping up out here in the Bay.

15 years ago but then again, I started slowing down on partying back then.

Seems like the lounges really jumped on them and once you couldn’t smoke cigarettes indoors they just exploded.

I think that’s the main attraction but I think vapes hurt the biz model

I mean even if you changing the tips it just don't feel safe.

I would say it's always been a thing..

during the hot summers, the employees at said Bodega occasionally sit outside the store, silky shirt unbuttoned, as they take a pull from their hookah...

they sell hookahs too.. it's pretty much a smoke bodega shop
