"OKP, why didn't yall tell me Fargo is the best thing on TV in ages?" Sun Dec-27-15 02:03 PM by Buddy_Gilapagos
Seriously, though. I depend on y'all keeping me up with what's good in art and pop culture.
I mean y'all were kind of talking about it in that Leftovers post, but that was a post about the Leftovers which was too boring to click on (which is why I only found talk of Fargo when I searched for talk of Fargo).
I only watched the second season so far but it is really really really good. It's good like the way yall talk about 'Breaking Bad' was suppose to be which I found underwhelming (given the hype) and never got around to finishing.
First time in my life I found myself saying "I need more scenes with Bokeem Woodbine".
Not a single wasted scene or even word of dialogue. Yet works on an expansive scale touching on themes and subjects as diverse as Reaganism (draws a direct line from Reagan to Trump), Feminine Mystique, Capitalism (I mean Kansas City was Wal-Mart right?), the militarization of local police departments and the long term corroding effect of racism.
Just great in every way. Perfect Cast. Perfect Dialogue. Perfect Music. A perfect season.
To the neglect of my children, my wife and I just watched 10 hours of a show in 2 days which we haven't done since maybe the first couple of seasons of Lost.

When someone posts about a show, they usually can't provide an opinion in the subject title to entice you because they haven't seen it. Most people haven't. The post serves as a place of discussion as the series develops. People are experiencing it for the first time which, for me, is part of the appeal.
If anything, the post title system used in PTP for TV and film makes it one of the more organized boards on okp.

make for the best discussions. I like PTP for popular programs that I am already into, but I don't think it's a good place to discover new stuff. I think it's hard to argue otherwise.

Like, it was such a well made piece of art shit that would make you annoyed in other shows* they pulled off and felt 100% believable.
Since im here, i guess ill put up the second best thing i saw, Mr.Robot. While the plot is still ongoing so they have enough time to fuck it all up, the same care in at least acting/directing/cinemetography is present in that show.

=====SPOILERS===== Going to your Breaking Bad comparison, as much as I love the show there were a handful of times I would get pulled out of the narrative because something felt a little too convenient plotwise when the odds were against them. Here these niggas even had UFO's be 100% believable with no suspension of belief.

The Americans, Justified final season, Mr Robot, The Affair, Better Call Saul, Mad Men final season, GoT, Leftovers, Narcos, Bloodline, etc.. only thing i can think of that i haven't seen that people are praising the shit out of is The Knick, so I can't really speak on that one.
As great as some of these were I'd put this season of Fargo above all of it

And those shows would (and will) get their rewards/accolades when award season rolls out.
But Fargo just has that Golden State Warriors ass season...shots sinking in effortlessly that makes no goddamn sense, lol.

>The Americans,
I'm still pissed so few ppl talk about it. it's the only show right now I consider better than Fargo
-Justified final season
still have not seen one season. It's always looked good to me
-Mr Robot
is it really? I mean it's on USA. my boy keeps telling me about it
-The Affair,
never heard of
>Better Call Saul,
It was so damn good
-Mad Men final season
ehh, my continued consternation with the last three seasons of this show will not end. I just did't buy the praise anymore. Overall it was high quality series, but inside inside i feel it was mediocre in it's final years
-GoT,
finished all five seasons this fall. it's good, not in the Wire, Breaking Bad, Americans, Fargo, camp tho
-Leftovers
it's premise just doesn't excite. I get tempted to watch tho
>Narcos
nope. i feel most folk like this show because of our national fetish for drugs and gangs. the POV and tone are fuckin horrible. the representations of women are barbaric. i tapped out 4 episodes in
-Bloodline
this is next on my list. also heard it's really good
only thing i can think of that i >haven't seen that people are praising the shit out of is The >Knick, so I can't really speak on that one. >
uhh bruh. it's incredible. get on it

>>The Americans,
I tried. The first couple of episodes the first season. I wanna go back to it again, but it didn't grab me...problem is that TV in 2015's like being the single good looking dude with a good job dating in a big city; if it doesn't click the first date we move on, lol.
> >-Justified final season
It's has some minor missteps (the season before this one) but the dialog is bar-none the best on television. It's a master class in shit talking; they did Elmore Leonard proud.
> >still have not seen one season. It's always looked good to me > >-Mr Robot > >is it really? I mean it's on USA. my boy keeps telling me >about it
The production values are something you would see on FX or even HBO to be honest; its one of the best things about the series...the cinematography. Only thing is that they are throwing alot of things into the pot and it remains to see how the gumbo eventually is gonna taste, but it's well worth it. Give it two episodes but the series really picks up around episode 6 or so.

ahh my man, you have to go back. the first few episodes are what you have to sludge through. that shit really begins to cook on ep3 AND, season one is the weakest link. Seasons 2 and 3 are exceptional

(on season 2 now)
Idk, I've been reluctant to commit to any drama-type shows with hour-long run times other than Walking Dead the past year or so, but lately I've been wanting some good, hard, conflicted character television so I'm binging on these HBO/AMC/FX joints that have came out or finished the past few years.

Folks have been praising alot of shows that feel like a chore to get through in which you are constantly waiting for payoffs.
I've started and stopped half the other great shows mentioned in this post (Mr. Robot (which I will get back to), Leftovers, the Affair) because I couldn't find the time to watch.
This shit right here you will breeze through and it will feel like a treat. Not a scene is wasted in this show. Multiple payoffs every other scene.
Now let me stop overhyping this show. Go watch it and come back so I can say I told you so.

the pace, dialogue, cinematography, soundtrack and plot are top notch.

The second season is way better than the first season which was awesome itself....
Narcos was great because we already know what happened at the end.. its just awesome to see history play out with stuff I never knew about... (ok yeah its because I like to see drug stories and gunplay..)
You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

It's good but not sure if I would have stuck with it (And that's on me. I get kids down at 9pm and I am asleep by 11 these days so a series really has to suck me in almost immediately before I commit to watching 10 hours of it. I can't wait for episodes for payoff).
Also since the second season is a prequel I don't think anything at all is lost (so far) watching it out of order.
