"With the exception of MJ and Prince, the 80s were a pop culture low poin..."

compared to the 70s and 90s.

Music: The 70s had Stevie and Marvin at the height of their powers. Real FUNK, and Amazing Rock. The 90s had the golden age of hip-hop along with grunge and alternative rock.

Most 80's rock and r&b is characterized by synths and general cheesiness, although the 80s gave us the GOATS in the subject line.

Film: The 70s were the auteur decade, giving us the best work from Scorsese, Coppola, Kubrick. Blacksploitation films were a cultural phenomenon, as black filmmakers were given access to resources to make feature films in real numbers. Arguably the best decade for genre films like Horror and Martial arts.

90's brought back some of the 70s auteur vibe with Tarantino and Spike Lee (although Lee's Magnum opus was released in 1989, the majority of his good films are from the 90s). Black cinema was at a high not seen since the 70s, with films like Menace, Boyz, Soul Food, The Best man, The Wood, Friday, Eve's Bayou and others.

The 80s were the decade of the Big action star. Rocky, which had been a character-driven indie in the 70s, became an over-the top boxing super hero. Roided out dudes blowing shit up everywhere. It's also the decade in which the Oscar-bait prestige film was created. Take a look at the Best Picture winners from the 80s and tell me how they stack up to the 70s and 90s films.

Television: This is what actually inspired this post (that Cosby thread). There are no 80s comedies that stack up to Sanford and Son and All in The Family. TV execs experimented with shit like SNL and The Richard Pryor Show. The 80s are when tv went safe and middle-brow.

The 90s hit us with The Simpsons In Living Color and Seinfeld. TV Dramas got edgy with shows like NYPD BLUE and Homicide: Life on the Street

We love this 80s shit out of nostalgia, but it's not great.

p.s. Eddie Murpy's best film is "Life" (1999), not "Coming to America" (1988)

in general, the Reagan Era was the last time when being WHITE(!!!!!!) was also "cool". and not only that, but in a dominating manner. as a result, anything that wasn't that, was swept under the rug or stood out like a sore thumb. in MURRICA, there was a heavy sense of '50s nostalgia undercutting that (and that was some bullshit. We could talk all day about the socioeconomic changes in that time that more or less enforced or tried to relive this). In that way, there was a lot of squareness and "holy shit, this was 198X?" feeling about a lot of stuff in that decade that kind of gets overlooked, especially early on.

I mean, it's a reason why Eddie Murphy was SUCH a standout talent back then.

However, the '80s wasn't this overly gaudy, synthesized, MTV-ed up era, nor was it solely this square, stodgy era. The (late) '80s is also when rap music got into one of its greatest, if not GOAT periods. New Jack Swing (a byproduct) also happened. all that ain't getting rolled up into the '90s.

I'm also annoyed (word to Neez) that the proliferation of synthesizers is often pointed to as a "low point" in the '80s. you have to be more specific. it wasn't the synthesizers, they had those in the '70s. Stevie Wonder wouldn't have reached GOAT status without them. it was the people who tried to be PRINCE and one-man-band it without the vision and ear that brought a lot of the music down on an aesthetic level.

because PRINCE was one of the few in that decade who really made that work. a lot of others who don't get a lot of credit as well (Kashif, Leon Sylvers et al)

As for films, I don't like a lot of stuff in the '80s (mostly because of the pass violent films got), but there are some good ones in the bunch.

the 70's and 90's to me.

When you can take a LOT away from an era, and 1985 - 1988 (as I said in that Richard Pryor biopic post where I had some flak about it) then you have to take points away.

And I do take points away from the 80's for getting too cheesy 1985 -1988.

Transcendent athletes can bleed into the realm of pop culture, but the games are not.

The birth of rave culture and explosion of ecstasy completely changed dancefloors across the world in the 80s; house and techno, the Second Summer of Love and the rise of the warehouse party/illegal rave. Frankie Knuckles. Derrick May. Juan fucking Atkins. YOU GOT THE LOVE. Marrs. S-Express. Yazz. Black Box.

Pop was on fire... Thriller thru Bad, 'Madonna' thru Like A Prayer were both of the biggest ever pop stars best periods and almost perfectly book-ended by the start and end of the 80s.

Prince.

Birth of Hip Hop or at least finding its feet as a major cultural force. Public Enemy. Run DMC. Beastie Boys.

MTV was born.

Two Tone ska... The Specials, Madness, Bad Manners, The Beat.

Tail-end of Blondie, Diana Ross, ABBA, Joy Division/New Order, QUEEN and Fleetwood Mac.

Whitney Houston

Frankie Goes To GATDAMN Hollywood

Guns n Roses

Culture Club, The Police, Eddy Grant, UB40

Neun und Neunzig Luftballons

Pet Shop Boys

Hell, the SIMPSONS started in 1989. Arguably the most successful piece of pop culture ever.

I'm definitely a 90s kid, but the 80s were what allowed the 90s to happen. Everything we loved in the 90s was rooted in revolutions from the 80s.

I think Lionel is one of the greatest songwriters of his era....He's also responsible for some of the most bullshit MOR shit ever recorded in the '80s....

70's Lionel >>>>>> '80s era Lionel....Not too many folks would disagree with this unless they are Celine Dion fans....

I think in some regards, you are right. Particularly on his first two solo albums. Lionel found his home in the middle of the road. But tilt too far in the "pop" direction and he sounded like the only Black man in the room ("Dancing On The Ceiling", the song that got that Lorimar-Telepictures comment, LOL)

but I like what he did on Can't Slow Down. He took these types of music that Black people didn't usually get behind at the time, and totally made it "Black". He had lowkey been doing it for years, but there was a certain sort of comfort, and confidence behind it. it was lightning in a bottle. He never quite reached that height again. He never really needed to. That album was "Thriller" status for him.

Commodores as "barely funky" I can't cosign... MIDNIGHT MAGIC is an album that I will trumpet until the end of time. They're dressed for the disco on that (back) cover, but make no bones about it, that is mostly FUNKY R&B...

and for the next album, Heroes, they Cuban B'd the temptation to go all the way MOR because of how "Still" and "Sail On" blew up for them and went deep into R&B, particularly gospel-inspired

and for their last album with Lionel, they kind of went half way, but "Saturday Night"... goddamn.

They had a bit more than MJ and Prince, but not too too too much more. I find myself listening to very little music from the 80s. Most of the TV shows named in defense of the decade didn't appeal to me, but there were a couple (HSB, for one).

That said I think the 70s were kind of fluffy and the 90s are looking less favorable to me in hindsight, those they did set a TON of trends that we still see in some form today.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

in the 70's, you had the Giants:

Gamble & Huff, Thom Bell, P-funk, Chic (Nile & Bernard), Joni Mitchell, Barry White, EWF, Paul Simon, Elton John...etc. I don't have to get into the films.......

In the 90's you had the Waves of hip-hop being vital to the point where it was just LIFE

Rock was vital where it was just LIFE as well - not saying every rock band was doing Pearl Jam and Guns n roses numbers but there was definitely a feeling that a great record like "OK Computer" was a part of the natural 90's environment/progression rather than a lone "bright point".

I think on the counterculture or cutting edge, the 70s were way grittier. On the top level though, there was a level of escapism and fun in 70s music that faded a little in the 80s (heading into the depressing ass 90s, dominated by suicidal alternative acts and gangsta rappers). You had a rawness and an anger in some things in the 70s, on one end non-rap rap acts (GSH, Last Poets) and punk on the other, but that's like arguing about electronic music in the 70s/80s. It wasn't that big of a thing. Disco and arena rock and cheesy shit like that was WAY bigger.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

one of the greatest trilogies of all time happened

And Eddie prominence happened then with 48hours, Trading Places, and Beverly Hills Cops before Coming to America. Plus his 2 stand ups, Delirious and Raw were classics.

Also how you going to dismiss the vehicle, MTV, that gave birth to the pop megastars of that era?

You're selling the 80s too short.

i feel like the 80s was so full of cheese and aged cheese is great hence all the excessive nostalgia

but i also think it was the beginning of a whole lot...it was to me the explosion of synth-based music and electronic music in general...it's cheesiness was part of the appeal...

movies...i'll give you that...again because it was largely a vehicle for the music/technology and often fell short in other areas that make great films great

but i think the 90s is far more full of cheese than we want to admit too...

90s R&B was basically cheese mixed with raunch

the thing about the 80s is that the greats are so great that we'll probably never see greats like that ever again though...

there will likely never be a Prince or an MJ and there really weren't anything like them before with a few exceptions

it was a lot of quality pop music too...yes, it was cheesy but there was an abundance of it that was good too

the 80s was basically the "oooooh, what this button do" era of entertainment...

i also think it's a mistake to discount sports from the equation as well...bc Jordan was bigger than that

if u stayed in the rock lane....There was some good alternative rock, Bruce was still cool and Gun N Roses was the TRUTH, but that hair metal era was BULLSHIT...It damn near dragged down every lane of rock...

But in terms of hip-hop, the 80s can't be fucked with....This was the true rebel music of that decade....I know u like to do that back to the future thing and poke holes in albums and artists deemed as classic because they sound "outdated" TODAY (whatever that means...lol)

But I remember picking up Run DMC's first album as a kid. That shit was GROUND SHAKING...."The Message," PE (your hate for them is puzzling...), early NWA, BDP, MOTHER FUCKING RAKIM...De La's first joint....that first Slick Rick album, the DOC, those early Salt N Pepa albums....Come the fuck on....That era hip hop wise was monumental...

And yeah....Prince and MJ were tops along with Madonna (on the pop tip....Prince though was on some OTHER SHIT....)....Even George Michael came through a crushed the buildings with Faith...

But R&B in the '80s, when everybody wasn't trying to ape Prince, was dope...Hell, Cameo and those Solar records in the early 80s was the SHIT....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

half the heads were still rocking 70s flows in the late 80s...

rap was solid...i agree it peaked in the early 90s

pop in the 80s was mixed bag

glam rock was actually hilarious to me

I think production and sonically wise u r right.....Hip-hop just took it to another level in the '90s sound wise...Preemo, those Prince Paul De La produced albums, OutKast.....THE WU...Shit was incredible...

But the fact that those '80s hip hop artists were working without a net needs to be noted...Run and them were putting hip-hop on the map during a time when hip-hop was viewed as a mere gimmick....By the late '80s hip hop lyrically went to an entirely different level...Once Rakim came in everybody switched up....

House and Techno laid the foundation for a lot of the shit you listen to on the radio now from pop to hip hop and R&B.

There was exactly one radio station in Toronto playing that shit in the 80's. And you had to tune in at 12am on Saturday night. And the station was fringe/alternative.

That shit had to be sought out to hear. It's probably more popular now than it was when it was released. Same thing with rocknroll. One could argue the Bad Brains, Minor Threat and Black Flag were 80's....but we all know that wasn't 'pop culture'. It was counter-culture and you had to be in the know to even have access to it.

In the 70's....there was high-quality shit that you didn't need to know the secret handshake to have access to.

the shit was pop culture in Chicago.

it was pumped on the #1 radio show in the city. Chicago was the 2nd largest radio market in the nation. thus, POP culture.

and the shit spread from here and Detroit all over the world (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Summer_of_Love). in the 1980s. POP. can't get more POP than a 'summer of love' in Europe.

of course you know 'Jack Your Body' was the 1st House single to hit the top spot in the UK (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Your_Body). that's POP, not counter.

'Big Fun' was a top ten hit single in the UK. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Fun_%28song%29

and so was 'Good Life'. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Life_%28Inner_City_song%29

Not ONE of those songs even CHARTED on billboard record sales. Some of them didn't even chart high on billboard dance charts. lol

It was counter-culture. Those songs are more recognizable to the mainstream now than they were in the 80's.

Most record stores didn't even carry them. You used to have to order them through the mail. Not pop culture.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Your_Body#Charts_and_sales

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Kiss_%28Lil_Louis_song%29#Charts

just...no.

i'd stop trying. but you won't.

and, BTW, i could've added a couple other House tracks that topped the BB dance chart in the 80s. like 'Ain't Nobody Better' by Inner City. 'Break For Love' by Raze. and 'That's the Way Love Is' by Ten City.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_number-one_dance_singles_of_1989_%28U.S.%29

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_number-one_dance_singles_of_1988_%28U.S.%29

and OH YEAH...i had forgot, since we're talking about POP and all of that...Madonna released her first House-flavored single in 1989 - 'Express Yourself'. the original album version was a bit slower in tempo and more R&B, but the single version was remixed by Shep Pettibone, a legendary DJ from the Disco-era who was responsible for several key House remixes of 80s Pop/R&B tunes. of course, 'Express Yourself' topped the BB Dance chart in 1989 and hit the #2 spot on the Hot 100. now, ain't that POP? of course it is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Express_Yourself_%28Madonna_song%29

and my boy Prince had a #1 Hot 100 and Dance single w/'Batdance' - another House-flavored POP single.

we can throw Technotronic's 'Pump Up the Jam' in there too. another #1 Dance single that hit the #2 spot on the Hot 100. very Techno-flavored. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pump_Up_the_Jam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EcjWd-O4jI

fuck you.

lol. That chart is counter-culture to begin with. I'm talking the POP charts. The fact is.....95% of the general population in 1986 had no fucking clue what these songs were. Pop culture was Madonna, Prince and MJ. Not Inner City.

#1 UK Singles chart for 'Jack Your Body', homie.

and speaking of Madge, as i just posted...she had a #2 Hot 100 success w/a House-flavored remixed single, 'Express Yourself' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsVcUzP_O_8). Prince had a #1 w/'Batdance' - another House-flavored hit.

That's what Madonna did. Took production styles from the underground and presented them to pop culture. Those classic tracks you posted were underground in the states. (admittedly not in the uk) Perhaps it's semantical.....I don't include underground/counter-culture acts in 'pop culture'. The 80's is largely defined, to me, as an era where the majority of quality, relevant music existed outside of the mainstream (aka pop culture).

Not when major acts like Madge, Prince and Janet were releasing House or House-flavored singles that sold well. And they were dropping singles with House remixes on them too. I agree that House and Techno came from the underground but by the late 80s they had hit the mainstream. Maybe not for your little nyc bubble, but millions of folks around the world were into it and they weren't all engaged in secret handshakes.

fuck you.

Bullshit....

You can count on one hand Go Go's mainstream love...

By the late '80s EVERYBODY had to have a House Remix on their release schedule.....This is not even remotely what SoWhat is talking about here....

I think u r reaching with the comparison...And I'm being nice here...lol

Go-Go was being utilized here and there by people who knew what was up...From Run DMC to Kurtis Blow ti Melle Mel and Kid N Play and later Salt N Pepa....But it was still a very much local phenomenon with the breakout national hit here and there (Chuck B., EU, and Rare Essence)....

But house music became an international movement and by the late 80s that shit started to explode....When you saw Madonna doing the running man to "Express Yourself" on the MTV Awards, the Jungle Brothers enjoying a crossover hit with "Girl I'll House You," and Inner City getting major play on MTV and BET, in addition to recording labels making it known that House Remixes had to be a part of the release schedule, that's some other shit...

I mean, how the hell you think Downtown Julie Brown became such a big deal on MTV? It wasn't just because of a silly catch phrase....The '80s saw the official birth of pop and house music morphing into the new dance music where everyone from Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Prince, hip-hop, to the Pet Shop Boys and beyond started to tap into house music beyond its underground beginnings....

That was way beyond Go-Go's crossover impact....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

"Pump up the Volume" charted. Technotronic had two songs that charted. Pet shop boys charted. A few established pop acts used producers to borrow sounds from the dance underground. But all that other shit you posted was underground. It did not chart. It did not crossover. Did not become part of the public conscious. They stayed niche. I knew about it...but I knew the secret handshake. The average person was completely unaware.

Nah dog...House was mainstream in the '80s.....Not on the level of the '90s...But mainstream to the point where rap acts started using house mixes for their songs...Hell, the Jungle Brothers made a house-rap record with Girl I'll House You....

And yeah, top 40 Billboard hits in ANY genre in the '80s matter , especially if u r going no. 1 in the UK....Not everything has to be top 20 to be mainstream....Early '80s Chi House was indeed breaking out its local confines....But by the late 80s, Inner City and the like were getting their videos featured on Video Soul and MTV dance POP blocks....

I mentioned this up top....There's a reason Downtown Julie Brown became a big deal in '80s (going into the '90s).....Club MTV wasn't created just because...lol

Those MTV suits KNEW house/dance music was exploding....From 87-90 on forward house music had totally gone mainstream....

House and Techno was HUGE in the 80's. Warehouse in Chicago, The Music Institute in Detroit, Paradise Garage in NYC and Zanzibar in NJ were iconic clubs know all over the globe for this music.

Rappers were throwing House tracks on their albums or had House remixes to their hits. "Hip House" was a thing and had it's own stars (Jungle Brother's "Girl I'll House You" is still considered a classic).

>computer games, in case you didn't know.

I just wouldn't choose it over any of Parliament's 1974-1979 output or Funkadelic's 1970-1981 records

it does belong in that conversation though. That's what '80s P-Funk was supposed to sound like. Truth be told, those "George Clinton" branded albums in the '80s were pretty dope. But Computer Games was a monster. You had "Atomic Dog", "Loopzilla", "Man's Best Friend"... sheeeit.

a lot of the other good ones get overlooked: Bootsy's early '80s records like ULTRA WAVE and THE ONE GIVETH, and the P-Funk All-Stars' URBAN FUNK GUERILLAS...

all of those albums made up for the (80%) WACKNESS of TROMBIPULATION (yay for Sir Nose coming back, but outside of "Let's Play House" and "Agony of Defeet"... that album is some BULLLLLLLLLLLLLLL SHIT <---- say it like "Soul Train")

was invented.

This is the birth of crossover. There is 70s Funkadelic, and then there is 80s George Clinton "Atomic Dog". There were plenty of niche things pre 80s that then blew up into mainstream crossover success. For your 90s era golden age hip hop I give you 80s Run DMC, which DEFINITELY were a pop culture phenomenon. The 80s were were white Wall Street guys were wearing Beat It jackets, and Jorns were invented in the 80s. The 80s kicked the whole concept of "Pop Culture" off, with a Pepsi commercial to boot.

There are definitely cheesy aspects to the 80s, but that is what happens whenever you take something from the source and dilute it for mainstream consumption. The mexican restaurant down the street will be more authentic that Taco Bell's Dorito taco, but taco bell is the pop culture equivalent of what your talking about. You are somewhat being nostalgic if you really consider it, but that is an interesting take on that generational period. The 80s made us who we are today, for better or worse.

... but the most popular films of the 1980s were definitely better than the most popular films of the 1990s.

Top eleven grossing films of the 1970s in order:
Star Wars (1977)
Jaws (1975)
The Exorcist (1973)
Grease (1978)
The Sting (1973)
Saturday Night Fever (1977)
(National Lampoon's) Animal House (1978)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
The Godfather (1972)
Superman (1978)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Top eleven grossing films of the 1980s in order:
E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Batman (1989)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Ghostbusters (1984)
Beverly Hills Cop (1984)
Back to the Future (1985)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
Tootsie (1982)

Top eleven grossing films of the 1990s in order:
Titanic (1997)
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Jurassic Park (1993)
Forrest Gump (1994) (tie)
The Lion King (1994) (tie)
Independence Day (1996)
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Home Alone (1990)
Men in Black (1997)
Toy Story 2 (1999)
Twister (1996)

I don't think there's any question that those would rank 70s >> 80s >> 90s. In terms of popular cinema.

Good distinction.

I'd take every single one of those movies on the '80s list over "Grease," "Rocky Horror Picture Show," "Superman," and probably "Saturday Night Fever."

Stuff like "Godfather" drives the '70s average up, but there's a lot of GREAT movies on that '80s list.

Both those decades easily beat the '90s list tho. No argument about that.

WHen I think 90's pop culture, I don't think of most of those top-grossing films. I think:

Pulp Fiction
Usual Suspects
Friday
Half Baked
Seven
Shawshank
Fight Club
Point Break
Boyz In the Hood
Menace II Society

When people talk about what films made that decade great, it tends to be the not as quite as big stuff. Of the top grossing films, I'd six max would be included on a list of "greatest films", and two of them, Jaws and Star Wars, and credited for killing the "golden age" of creatively controlled cinema.

the whole notion of fame and stardom built up over a long time (hence why we have the term "the century of the self") and you can really see it in the 60s pushing forward in a strong, linear way through the 70s and into the 80s. I think the 80s were just in the right groove to be before things were fragmented so much by the internet and but after media expanded and the notion of being famous was becoming so fucking tantalizing.

i think in terms of movies, yeah, they were weak compared with previous decades (60s, 70s for sure, the 50s too but it's a tougher comparison).

i think one thing we had was a high number of transcendental athletes in the 80s (though some overlapped into the previous or successive decade). jordan, dr j, magic, bird, jabbar, gretzky, bourque, lemieux, lewis, jjk, greg louganis and so on, these were athletes that brought non-fans to their sports and helped grow the industry in a major way.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Alan Moore:
Watchmen aka The best comic book series ever.
Swamp Thing
Various one-shots for DC, including Batman's "Killing Joke" and Superman's "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?"

Frank Miller's peak, before he went insane:
Daredevil
Dark Night Returns
Batman: Year One
Ronin

X-Men:
Dark Phoenix Saga
Days of Future's Past

Other DC stuff:
John Bryne's Man of Steel mini-series.
Teen Titan's "Judas Contract"

Other Marvel:
Rise of the Punisher
Spider-Man's "Death of Jean DeWolff" and "Kraven's Last Hunt"
Walt Simonson's Thor run
John Bryne's Fantastic Four run

Indie stuff:
The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The gritty version, not the goofs who are obsessed with pizza.
American Flagg

Kid's stuff:
GI Joe comics
Transformers comics
Star Wars comics

And a bunch of other stuff that I'm leaving out.

>Secret Wars I and II

Thought about including the one. It was decent enough, but kind of became a mess by the end. Two was definitely a mess.

>Crisis on Infinite Earths (which rebooted the entire DC
>universe)

I included the best-written stories writen before ("Whatever Happened...?") and the best post-Crisis series (Batman Year One and Man of Steel). The maxi-series itself, aside from a handful of GREAT moments, was again, kind of a mess and incredibly convoluted.

>The Mutant Massacre

Honestly forgot this one. I should have included it. Dark Phoenix and Days of Future's Past were both better and more "important": they pretty much shaped the current X-verse even today.

>Contest of Champions

Eh.

>Inferno

Whoo, talk about out a mess. That shit is still incomprehensible.

>Evolutionary War

Forgot it. Should have included it.

>Meltdown (Havok and Wolverine)
>
Forgot it. Truthfully haven't read it in years.

>(edit) forgot to add Scourge and the Bar With No Name
>massacre.

I legit regret leaving this one out too. Captain America in the late '80s was one of my favorites.

I also should have included Iron Man, especially around the time of the "Armor Wars." And also "Squandron Supreme".

I'd say the current Marvel stuff is just as much, if not more influenced by the '00s stuff though.

You also had some cool ass shit from Neil Young, though you could argue he did better work in previous decades, too.

The Police are kind of a tweener, I liked their 70s stuff better but we are really creating a big break for a band that was essentially recording between 78 and 83? That's like someone who played in the NBA from 1949-1950 that he played in two different decades. It's technically true but there is little if any meaningful distinction between the ass end of the 70s and the front part of the 80s.

But we are talking about comparative quality. You had a lot of bands that were good but before (EWF, Kool & The Gang, Queen, et al). All the shit we are talking about here in terms of rock acts, IMO Faces shits all on of them and they are not even the foremost act of the 70s. Don't even get started on the 60s in terms of that genre.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Just because of that last line, everything you said before it, was negated.

Fuck. That.

Coming to America was Eddie Murphy's greatest film. And one of the best comedies in cinema history.
