"Uh, these militias, tho. "

Seriously. I watched part of the Vice episode about the 3% militia in Colorado. These dudes are seriously training day in and day out as if a war is going to pop off on American soil tonight. The reporter asked one guy straight out "what are you preparing for?"

Him: "We'd rather not go into that."

What? They wear full face masks. They carry automatic weapons. They recite anti-American (Obama) rhetoric in an anechoic chamber of rebellion. For what? 25,000 known militia groups with 88,000 anonymous members and nobody is cracking down on any of it.

The Oath Keepers had to be turned away because they showed up to Ferguson looking to Chris Kyle some "looters". The police said they didn't need any extra security.

These people are insane. We're living in a powder keg. And the second any of us pick up arms in self-defense, it's gonna be Tulsa all over again.

What are we supposed to do?

Da bayball, babeh. (c) Charlie Kelly.

investigating, infiltrating and prosecuting these groups

conspiracies not withstanding these guys are very anti government and alot of times make no attempt to hide themselves

i just went to google news and put united states domestic militias and found several news articles of LE groups warning that domestic white extremest are the most worrisome and flat investigating/charging them.

for example

Like why are they allowed to even gather? It seems antithetical to the status quo. Oath Keepers had a straight up standoff with the Texas Rangers on Cliven Bundy's ranch. He owes millions in fees for his cattle that he refuses to pay because he believes the government has no right to recoup these monies. The Rangers backed down. On film. As if they valued their lives and wanted to end the conflict without violence or somethin.

That's not the American way.

Ask David Koresch.

I don't understand how they let that precedent stand. Huey Newton and them woulda been aired out.

the clive owen thing i cant speak on because i didnt really keep up with what actually happened

and to reiterate

i honestly believe the feds are very aware of the actual organized groups and probably have decided which ones pose actual threats but thats going on two things

1. you believe in the competence of their domestic intel agencies
2. you believe they arent actually manipulating/pushing these groups through the use of plants/CI's

i do pretty much believe in #1 to be true and not so much believe #2 to be true

If one negro in Ferguson had a rifle, it would have been a bloodbath. Not a negotiation. And the difference between this and Ferguson was that Ferguson was about death and this was a bunch of yahoos defending another yahoo's right to not give up a dollar of his millions.

Black Gang's aren't urban militias mainly because they're not organized and almost never have central leadership.

Hispanic Gangs in many cases have central leadership, but almost would NEVER organize against the US government.

is "well regulated" further defined anywhere in the constitution?

seems very vague and subjective wording to me

but if i were so inclined to feel the need to run an organized militia, the fact that it is literally a right guaranteed in the constitution would probably be a strong motivation

From the U.S. Constitution, Article II (The Executive branch), Sec. 2, Clause 1: "The President shall be the Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States when called into the actual service of the United States."

The organized militia defined by the Militia Act of 1903, which repealed section two hundred thirty-two and sections 1625 - 1660 of title sixteen of the Revised Statutes, consists of State militia forces, notably the National Guard and the Naval Militia.

it seems what exactly well regulated militia means and how it applies to organizing a militia is something debated both informally and in the courts to this day /shrug

fortunately (or unfortunately) im the wrong person to get into this with as im quite ignorant when it comes to constitutional "rights", court rulings, precedences and all that.

they can muster? Even if it numbers in the thousands they wouldn't be able to launch more than an insurgency. Best case scenario they're the IRA or Boko Haram.

the autodefensa movement happening in mexico, where actual militias are having to take up arms to protect their own community. but of course i dont see that ever getting to this point in the united states because mexico is corrupt from top to bottom

there is certainly no scenario where the federal government uses the military against its own citizens nor brings in the mythical UN/NATO shocktroops like the wet dream these militias have

Like those rowdy Ferguson protesters I mentioned earlier.

If they go after the unarmed and those just trying to live, they can do massive damage.

Like Chris Kyle and the snipers who wen to Katrina to "help out" with the "law and order situation" and sketchy estimates put their body count at 30 "looters".

Remember the difference between looters and foragers, right?

In response to Reply # 28

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/after-katrina-cops-given-ok-to-shoot-looters/

The accounts of orders to "shoot looters," "take back the city," or "do what you have to do" are fragmentary. It remains unclear who originated them or whether they were heard by any of the officers involved in shooting 11 civilians in the days after Katrina. Thus far, no officers implicated in shootings have used the order as an explanation for their actions. Only one of the people shot by police - Henry Glover - was allegedly stealing goods at the time he was shot.

Still, current and former officers said the police orders - taken together with tough talk from top public officials broadcast over the airwaves -- contributed to an atmosphere of confusion about how much force could be used to combat looting.

In one instance captured on a grainy videotape shot by a member of the force, a police captain relayed the instructions at morning roll call to cops preparing for the day's patrols.

"We have authority by martial law to shoot looters," Captain James Scott told a few dozen officers in a portion of the tape viewed by reporters. Scott, then the commander of the 1st district, is now captain of the special operations division.

Another police captain, Harry Mendoza, told federal prosecutors last month that he was ordered by Warren Riley, then the department's second-in-command, to "take the city back and shoot looters." A lieutenant who worked for Mendoza, Mike Cahn III, said he remembered the scene similarly and would testify about it under oath if asked.

Mendoza and Cahn said in separate interviews that Riley made the remarks at a meeting at Harrah's casino, where police had established a command post. Mendoza quoted Riley as saying: "If you can sleep with it, do it," according to a document prepared by prosecutors and provided to lawyers defending police officers recently charged with federal offenses.

What sort of measure is that for the enforcement of law?

I just got done watching a doc about the American Revolution, and I've gotta say, even though the myth of the militia man is overplayed, from a strictly tactical standpoint Lexington and Concord was really fucking interesting.

I did see that Vice episode though, and jesus christ these guys are unsettling.

This mofo is big. I mean really big. Think about the American Revolution being limited to only 13 states. Biggest advantage American militias had was knowing the terrain and being able to hide.

These cats is spread the fuck out and can ostensibly take a territory in a heartbeat. They won't do it in stable times. They are waiting. Not to attack but to take control when things fall apart. When the response time is down. They are preppers. So it isn't so much about fearing them, but fearing them being given the opportunity to exert themselves. Unfortunately is it means depending on...

GPS and satellites wouldn't do much to negate the advantage of familiarity with the terrain when facing an armed militia with in the hills in South Dakota, or even the Appalachians or Ozarks.
