"fun post: make up an absurd urban legend surrounding a song/ album..." Tue Jun-02-15 12:07 PM by Somnus
I've always found them to be so intriguing/ entertaining like the alleged story behind the lyrics of "In The Air Tonight" or the myriad of kooky tales surrounding various Beatles songs etc etc.
you guys are a pretty imaginitive group of folks, this should be good.
Go!

1. "Maze "Before I let go" was about Marvin Wife's ex-wife Janice" In response to Reply # 0
Marvin did set them up, just to torture her, but Frankie was such a nice guy, that he fell for her. He wrote "Before I let go" as he knew it had to end, but he wanted to hit it just one mo time.
Years later, he made "Can't get over you" which was also dedicated to her.

the cough/ sneeze heard at the beginning of "Ferris Wheel" on EC was an indicator that the concept of the entire album was supposed to be that of a cocaine-psychosis induced fever dream.

Jermaine Wallace. They had a love-hate relationship, and Big would battle rap him as a kid..but once Big got put on, he never put Jermaine on, mainly because he saw him as a wannabe who had no real presence on the mic.
A few weeks before Puff got Big to drop a verse on the legendary Mack single, Jermaine complained about how it was so many wack rappers getting deals. Jermaine's mom told him, "well, you shouldn't worry about Rap, you see your dad works at UPS and he's good. He could probably use some help there, too."

but pressure from the record label led to him creating Vanity 6 instead. His doubles in the chorus of "Nasty girl" were left in there as a practical joke by the engineer, who was creeped out at how Prince stared at him directly the entire time that he recorded the reference track, which is actually on two rare European vinyl copies that no one can find.

when ya stuck at 32/ Degrees please get on your knees and swallow deez" was aimed at Big and a reference to their respective secret affiliation with the Freemasons. This slight subsequently lead to the somewhat underground riff between Boot Camp & Big.

The lead singer was dating an American student at the time and being from Norway where education is free he was an inspired to write this song. The video is really about him hoping to rescue her from her potential debt.

...PSA for clumsy toddlers. When the campaign was canned she added 11th-hour verses and bridge to the already-completed hook and it became one of her signature tunes from "Rapture".

Even though its a love song its inception is based on an incident when they were trying to break from Maurice Starr.
He told them if the entire group could stand outside during a thunderstorm he would let them break their contract. They stood outside for 17 hours until Mike Bivens got hypothermia.
They relayed the story to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and the song was born. ***************************************** . . . If I have something to say when there is a reason involved, I am perfectly willing to talk. Katherine Hepburn
