Damon Dash just lost custody of the daughters he shares with ex-wife Rachel Roy, and it's probably all news to him ... since he didn't even show up for the hearing. Roy just got sole legal and physical custody of 15-year-old Ava and 6-year-old Tallulah. Dash also wanted full custody. The former couple each accused the other of being an unfit parent. He claimed she drove drunk with one of the girls, and threatened to cut him with a knife. She claimed he smokes weed around the kids. She said all the women and drugs were a bad influence on their daughters. The judge clearly sided with Rachel, ruling Dash only gets supervised visitation. Roy also got a three-year restraining order against Dash.

anyway i'm not trying to defend dame dash. admittedly he's not a prime candidate. just making a point in general re: child custody. most agree that the courts are skewed in favor of the mother when it comes to that. and empirical data supports that as well.

going to court should be a #1 top priority... and if the other party wants me to buy said property they will understand me needing to go to court to handle real live family issues.

doesn't seem that outrageous. i don't think it's that it's perceived that he'll harm them more than the concern that either he may decide to abscond with them or he may actually be smoking around them and the supervision can deter that

But either way, I'm not really going to have a discussion on the basis or assumption of the system in these cases being fair or unbiased because it just isn't.
It's all speculation from a very brief TMZ story so it's pointless to take it very far.
But considering the man isn't a criminal, not being able to take his kids out for ice cream or some shit without a chaperon smells like bullshit.

b/c by all accounts it seems this dude has some real issues that may warrant the supervised visitation - he has displayed some serious anger management problems w/his bad behavior IN court (yelling @ judges and reporters) and his failure to appear for court dates and/or showing up late doesn't help. but if he demonstrates good behavior over the course of the next few months he can ask the court to reconsider the issue.
i agree that when it comes to family court at least w/custody issues there's 'bias' toward biological mothers. that bias is mostly based on the way cases have played out - it's not rooted in misandry, IMO.

all earned them w/various types of bad behavior. one father was caught snorting cocaine in the basement while his daughter roamed around the house upstairs (2 stories) aimlessly. this was at 8am.
he lost custody and can only have supervised visits once per month for 2 hours.
i didn't represent him in the custody matter but when he told me about it i was like...well, yeah. LOL

I say allegedly because I don't follow that world enough to say how big she actually is.
There's also a rumor that she has played some part in the Jay/Dame divide as well as the elevator incident but we can call both of those alleged if not out-and-out reckless speculation as well.

I don't see what's so surprising. Anyone who knows anything about family court and Black folk especially men knows that the mother could damn near be a crack hoe that sells drugs out the house and gain custody.
