"Have yall ever discussed the politics of 'The First 48'?"

I never really thought about it until recently because I love the show, but.. 97% of the episodes are black on black violence. The fuck is up? Where the white men killing their wives and kids killing their parents and all that wild shit??

Most of the eps I see are usually in Detroit, New Orleans or Miami. I wouldn't say 97% maybe 80% but it's definitely either black or Latino

It's an odd show to like cause it's real life. But it's a hard show not to turn off when u see the first 5 mins

i get frustrated watching the suspects answer questions during police interrogation w/o an attorney present or w/o having consulted w/an attorney (who should advise them to STFU).

and i generally dislike the tone of the show and the favor shown to police and prosecutors in criminal cases.

fuck you.

most white dudes either kill themselves or chill at the scene. It's rare for white dudes to kill fam and then go on the run.

i think we're worse off when the line btwn entertainment and real life violence gets blurred.

i think the show has blood on its hands from the murder of aiyana stanley-jones. people act a certain way when theyre being filmed.

to guarantee that they have content, they focus on the areas that have the most violence and thus, murders to make a show about. they have a schedule and they can't just wait around for some spoiled white kid to kill his parents because they didn't buy him a car for his 16th birthday (that would be probably one of the best episodes though).

unfortunately, those areas are predominantly poor and minority in make-up.

my wife and i are always shocked when the perp(s) or victim(s) are white.

the first 48 always confounds me. it has good aspects to it, but i wonder how it plays with amerikkka.

Murders committed by black people make up around half of the murders in this country. That means about half of the murders and murderers go unrepresented on the show. Don't tell me there ain't enough white murders to go around.

what * I'M * saying is they have limited resources and limited time, so all they have to do is focus on a 20 square block area in most bigger cities and they'll have their show.

white people obviously commit murders too, but they'd have to be running here and there to cover them. that doesn't make sense logistically.

that's too bad, because * IF * the point of the show is to expose people to the darkness of the human condition and the people who try to right those wrongs, you'd have a better show if you didn't basically focus on drug murders.
