12723339, Have yall ever discussed the politics of 'The First 48'?
Posted by realityrap, Tue Feb-10-15 12:10 PM
I never really thought about it until recently because I love the show, but.. 97% of the episodes are black on black violence. The fuck is up? Where the white men killing their wives and kids killing their parents and all that wild shit??
12723351, Yep.
Posted by Binlahab, Tue Feb-10-15 12:12 PM
Invariably over bullshit too
12723392, Yeah probably but I used to think it was just the cities they were in
Posted by Heinz, Tue Feb-10-15 12:25 PM
Most of the eps I see are usually in Detroit, New Orleans or Miami. I wouldn't say 97% maybe 80% but it's definitely either black or Latino

It's an odd show to like cause it's real life. But it's a hard show not to turn off when u see the first 5 mins

12723400, I believe that's why I stopped watching it as much as I did in the past
Posted by jimi, Tue Feb-10-15 12:29 PM
it was getting tired

I still watch it from time to time but I always end up changing the channel midway

@silentintellect
12723442, i can't stand the show.
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Feb-10-15 12:53 PM
i get frustrated watching the suspects answer questions during police interrogation w/o an attorney present or w/o having consulted w/an attorney (who should advise them to STFU).

and i generally dislike the tone of the show and the favor shown to police and prosecutors in criminal cases.

most white dudes either kill themselves or chill at the scene. It's rare for white dudes to kill fam and then go on the run.
12723495, i hate that show.
Posted by NikaMandela, Tue Feb-10-15 01:17 PM
i think we're worse off when the line btwn entertainment and real life violence gets blurred.

i think the show has blood on its hands from the murder of aiyana stanley-jones. people act a certain way when theyre being filmed.
12723783, yeah man, that jones murder was a travesty. From the cop to the

camera woman who showed the raid tape to friends before the trial.
12723727, It weighs heavy to watch.
Posted by JFrost1117, Tue Feb-10-15 02:28 PM
I fucked around and watched 2 eps in a row before just having to take a depression nap.

Bait Car was more entertaining.
12723729, its the new "COPS"
Posted by guru0509, Tue Feb-10-15 02:29 PM
smh, fuck that show
12723735, Guess I'm the sick bastard that could watch that shit all day.
Posted by Monkey Genius, Tue Feb-10-15 02:30 PM
Cause I could watch that shit all day.
12723788, Remember "Snapped?"
Posted by Edoggy, Tue Feb-10-15 02:53 PM
Most of the time that was angry black women. I hated that show, but it gave good insight on the crazies...
12723893, I watch a shit ton of Snapped too. It's 90% white women.
Posted by Monkey Genius, Tue Feb-10-15 03:41 PM
You probably caught an ethnic marathon or something.
12723873, they need content.
Posted by PROMO, Tue Feb-10-15 03:27 PM
to guarantee that they have content, they focus on the areas that have the most violence and thus, murders to make a show about. they have a schedule and they can't just wait around for some spoiled white kid to kill his parents because they didn't buy him a car for his 16th birthday (that would be probably one of the best episodes though).

unfortunately, those areas are predominantly poor and minority in make-up.

my wife and i are always shocked when the perp(s) or victim(s) are white.

the first 48 always confounds me. it has good aspects to it, but i wonder how it plays with amerikkka.
12723909, RE: they need content. -----No
Posted by realityrap, Tue Feb-10-15 04:09 PM
Murders committed by black people make up around half of the murders in this country. That means about half of the murders and murderers go unrepresented on the show. Don't tell me there ain't enough white murders to go around.
12723935, right...i get that.
Posted by PROMO, Tue Feb-10-15 04:21 PM
what * I'M * saying is they have limited resources and limited time, so all they have to do is focus on a 20 square block area in most bigger cities and they'll have their show.

white people obviously commit murders too, but they'd have to be running here and there to cover them. that doesn't make sense logistically.

that's too bad, because * IF * the point of the show is to expose people to the darkness of the human condition and the people who try to right those wrongs, you'd have a better show if you didn't basically focus on drug murders.
12723948, which is what makes the show cops 2.0 as others
Posted by realityrap, Tue Feb-10-15 04:24 PM
Are saying. Yea that's true
12724205, All those ID shows
Posted by wluv, Tue Feb-10-15 08:03 PM
Fatal Vows
Dateline
20/20 on ID
Forensic Files

No lie one Saturday my girl came over in the morning while i washing clothes and cleaning up and we watched about 8 hours worth of white on white crime shows.

They be on that evil chop the body up and spread over 3 different county shit.

That was compelling tv watching.

12724212, I abhor that show. Ugh.
Posted by scrollock, Tue Feb-10-15 08:15 PM
12724220, That show exposes just how dirty cops really are....
