I watched twice, waiting to see if someone at Hamlin Hamlin & McGill, or someone else, said "your brother" when referring to Chuck, or something like that...and it didn't happen. So I don't know how everyone just established that he was his brother.
I mean, I know that he is, because it's established in writings all over the internet. But someone watching without having read about it could maybe deduce it but wouldn't have it confirmed. Strange.

....BUT, it's still fantastic fucking viewing for me, and I hope as the series goes on I won't realize it's only because of the world and staff behind it.

I was wondering this too but I think when they were trailing behind Tuco's grandma's car they gave a little indication the direction they were going ... but yea, kind of a stretch.

Yea totally. Huge coincidence they're asking us to believe...but for the entertainment value of the story I'm willing to let it slide.

This I was fine with. Seems like his whole persona was just taking shape and he wasn't quite as impulsive or insane at this time, and I thought they laid that out just fine. He was far less temperamental than when we saw him in BB.

Long story short, I'm balls deep on this shit.
-I loved how they started with Witness Protection and how, for all intents and purposes, his story ended the same time Breaking Bad did.
-The slow build with Mike is hilarious. Mike is still Mike...he's just not the Mike WE know...yet.
-Man...the minute Tuco opened that door I already knew it was going to be a hilarious 2nd episode....that dude is certifiable. James(Saul) was talking his ass off.
-Also enjoyed the court montage, as it shows him kinda honing his craft. He may have been headed for the straight (ish) and narrow if not for that visit.

Same here. I dulled my expectations for this as much as I could beforehand just in-case they went the cheap route by focusing on comedy instead of the slow build + payoff drama style that makes BB such a rewarding watch. Then I saw the mustache and him working in the mall. Then his name wasn't Saul!? Slippin Jimmy!? What!? Haha!
Then I saw Mike. And then...the goddamn Tuco! Now, this may as well be more eps of Breaking Bad written with years of experience in the same world and the ability and willingness of Vince and Bob to use and abuse what we already know to fuck with us along the way. Aka I'm all over this show as one that I'll watch weekly.
And you know the dude playing Saul is gonna act his ass off for this show. I just wonder where they'll end this...aka how far after the Cinnabon day do we get to go? And how much will they 'cheat' to tell us more about what became of the White family? I have to assume that Jesse is gone forever. It's too risky, right? No written fate for him could do justice to everyone's individual vision for what happens to him after the last time we see him on bb. But Vince isn't scurred. At all. So maybe just maybe...Oh shit...more reason to be in on this as its own thing as well as a compliment to BB. Vince and Bob...take it away...
By the way, I assume Jesse goes on to somehow fuck up again and end up dead anyway. Maybe he retraces his steps and runs across the wrong someones. Maybe he interacts with the White crew somehow and he ends up on the run/living illegal from that.
Oh lawd...imagine when they get to the twins coming after Hank and all of that? This shit is gonna fuckin rule...

I either read or listened to an interview/podcast where he mentioned that, while as an actor he does way better not knowing the full story and only trying to follow his character's perspective, as a fan he would love to know what Saul was doing while X and Y were happening, let alone what Saul is doing now...
He's an EP on the show that really wants little to do with its creation other than make it possible, but the fan in him combined with his and Vince/Peter's vision for this world leads me to believe, if not in Season 1 then maybe Season 2 and beyond, we will get to see a lot of little Breaking Bad Easter Egg stuff.

The opening was good although I guess *exactly* the scenario from his closing arguments. I don't know if that is anything to brag about.
I thought both were a little winky-winky as Breaking bad shit but I guess it's a commercial thing. The same thing happened with BB, basically the whole second season was trying to be spectacular and elevate the show to another level of popularity. For all the valid critiques of that, it worked and I admit I kind of liked it personally.
I hear that kind of faded away as the season has gone along. After episode 10 I will just catch up in one fell swoop. I am interested to hear more about Mike's back story and also Jimmy/Chuck's relationship.

They had to make sure they nailed the relationship between Saul and his brother. They spent a lot of time building that and showing that Jimmy wasn't all slipping jimmy all the time.
