"late pass these nuts: Bin's Big List of dumb shit abt I Am Legend"

Late Passes will abound in this jount, if you dont like that...click back now...im gonna do some yapping abt myself for a lil while so its no immd but its coming so dont say i didnt warn u ok...now on w/ the show

yeah i just saw it, im 30 & married w/ 2 kids under 5, a full time job & in night school...time is precious

now on paper...this shit is TAILOR made for a brother like myself. Blk guy, weaponry, loner, human flesh feasting zombies, apolocalpyse scenario, world population crash etc etc...when i 1st saw the ads i was literally thinking of ruining my perfect attendence @ the gig record to play hooky & catch it...ffwd a few months (yrs? whatever i lose track of time) & i finally get to catch my tivo'd version

put the kids to bed, wifey is comatose on the sofa...aka NO ITERRUPTIONS...im massively geeked

1.5 hrs later & im disappointed

ok, off the top...NO MILITARY OFFICER WOULD EVER HAVE A BEARD!!!!! EVER!!! thats ridiculous off the break.

2) the water system hasnt broken down? shenanigans.

3) dudes wife is wrongly read w/ the lil eyescanner thing...he pulls rank w/ his beard & makes the non com read her again...shes clear...how many ppl were incorrectly read? i get that might be a plot point but still that bothered me.

4) Will is a LtCol...in his 30s? cmon dog. MAYBE if he was a MD...but a scientist? i dont think so.

5) did he set the trap that ultimately caught himself? when he sees the mannequin somewhere he didnt put it, he spazzes...and gets caught in the same kind of trap he set that caught the female zombie w/ the nice rack (i just KNEW will would save her & she'd be his love interest i was looking forward to seeing some zombie nipples)

6) when he got caught in the trap...what knocked him out? all he did was get snatched up by the ankle, he should have been cool

7) when he got snatched up it was broad day. by the time he came out of it it was almost dusk...zombie time.
a) the flood of blood to his brain from hanging upside down that long would have killed him.
b) the heavy cable trap would have @ least fucked his ankle up, if not tearing it off...that was a CAR that pulled him up, not some simple shit.
c) there was a sliver of light keeping the zombie dogs @ bay until it was too late...wasnt NO zombies BEHIND him...somewhere beyond the truck? cmon fam

8) them lil ass generators powered all the electricity he had on in the house & in the lab? cmon fam

9) what was the head zombies damn DEAL? dude had a severe hard on for will.

10) if he was really trying to off himself @ the end, why drive the truck out to the rendevous? just walk outside after dark w/ your grenade & take yourself out w/ a gang of zombies...as he did

11) the lady & kid hid in a chimney or something that protected them from the blast when will blew himself up...why didnt it bring the whole townhouse down?

Inside my mind looks like Denzel's back in Glory - Dave Chappelle

if he is in his late 30s, say 39. let's say he graduated from West Pt at 22 that automatically makes him a 2nd lt, that gives him 17 yrs to make Lt Colonel is it really that inconceviable

I think he did set the trap himself...although it is plausible also in my opinion that the Zombies copy catted him after seeing the female zombie get captured...

Tells us that though Humans regress with the
disease, we don't lose all of what makes us uniquely
human.

Love can't be conquered...even when all our other
faculties have disappeared. Makes a commentary about
what it means to truly be a human. Sort of in there
with the Bob Marley theme about the doing things out
of love, and for the human spirit, etc.

sort of a sappy point, but it was done correctly
because it was implicit. They didn't beat us over the
head with it. Well done.

Alpha Male was CLEARLY Hell Bent on killing him. Neville realized it as he was trying to explain to him: "I CAN HELP YOU!!!!"

Alpha Male didn't care, and Neville knew that he was not going to stop trying to get him ( out of revenge or whatever).

LOL. Niggas are forgiving when the world is falling apart,

It actually doesn't take place that long after everyone
died. Water system could conceivably be just fine.

Uh. That is a plot point, toughguy.

>4) Will is a LtCol...in his 30s? cmon dog. MAYBE if he was a
>MD...but a scientist? i dont think so.

My guess is that he was a doctor/scienist first hired by
the military. Happens all the time. He's probably in his
very late 30s.

Alternatively If he finished college at 22, and medical school
by 26/27, he'da been training clinically into his early 30s,
at which point with his expertise he could have risen ranks
quite quickly; I have military doc friends who ENTER out of
medical school as high non-enlisted ranks.

Just think about Dustin Hoffman from 'Outbreak'. He
was a scientist first, military guy second.

Lotsa ways that's possible

Yeah, this is a point of great debate, but it works
either way. Part of the subplot is how he's losing
his mind. He very well might have set that trap.

>6) when he got caught in the trap...what knocked him out? all

whiplash can do that. People get knocked unconscious
from roller coasters. And he's already not in the best

LOL. Wrong. Your heart has the contractile strength
to keep everything moving just fine. His heart rate would
have increased because of the pooling in his head, but
overall he'da been fine

You can hang upside down for quite awhile. You'll feel
fucked up, but I don't really get your point

Uh. This isn't unrealistic at all. He lives by himself,
doesn't use a lot of light and needs some in his

Will's specimen was his girl

Because it didn't. A strongly built house can survive

it was a tunnel ( or some type of Coal Delivery chute), so if anything, it was probably underground, which made it pretty stable.

And they closed the door ( which looked to be like a heavy fire door of some sort ) after them...

They still had power, so it might stand to reason that shit like Email and the internet still work. Maybe the people in the safe areas sent out messages and directions...

I'm assuming if you stay mobile you might be safe. Also, I'm assuming that there weren't many Rural Zombies. So if they came from Vermont or somewhere without a lot of hiding places (like abandoned buildings for Zombies to make hives ), then they'd be safer than in a big city.

>how'd she get into OR out of NYC?

not sure about the streets and roads in reality, so I can't answer that.

Given that the zombies are actually pretty intelligent,
it wouldn't surprise me if they recreated some sort of connection
between Manhattan and New Jersey or Manhattan and the Bronx
so that they could leave the island and eat more people.

That seems perfectly reasonable to me. You actually don't need
much of a bridge to connect Manhattan to one of several
large land masses.

they ( the Zombies ) knew their own limitations; meaning they knew not to go out in direct sunlight as opposed to unintelligent beings that might've been offing themselves by just wandering around during the day.

So, I'm thinking that they might've figured out something during the night time hours when they roamed the streets. Maybe they found something floatable and moved back and forth.

AND didn't they attack Neville at the dock? Meaning they were hanging around near the waterfront. Possibly looking for a way off/on the island.

Love and humanity was the whole point of this flick

The Bob Marley theme gave that away to me

The nigga Will had my man's girl

Nothing can strip the human spirit of love,
doggie

We'll always fight for the shit we believe
in, for the things we love

Like Will still trying to save the world
despite everyone he knows being dead

I knew this wasn't no dumb ass "zombie" movie

You have to be smart to get that, and most
people ain't.

Waaaaay too smart a movie for the audience it
attracted

In the book Will Smith was a fleshed out vampire hunter, and the vampires themselves were smart and 'human', enough for...

******SPOILERS TO THOSE WHO ACTUALLY WANT TO READ THE BOOK******

Him to actually live with and begin to fall for one.

***********************END SPOILERS******************************

In the movie, they had the bare minimum of human intelligence (although they were hinting they were getting smarter). They were basically animals. Obviously they felt a kinship to each other, like animals would to family.

But that whole boogieman nonsense would require much higher thought then the zombies had in the movie. It's not like they had a realization moment like Romero let happen with that recent zombie movie he did with Leguezamo and Hopper.

That was Will's bias leading him to misunderstand what he just saw.

Let's put it this way, Will ran into their nest, which was essentially one big death trap, for the sake of his dog. The Vampire leader ran into the sunlight when Will took his girl. When you care about something, you ignore the danger. That's evident in higher level reasoning, not lower.

Fun is the new gritty

I don't want to harp on the 'ITS DIFFERENT ON THE BOOK'. But it IS different from the book, lol.

But im kinda surprised you guys are giving the zombies/mutants this much credit even the screenwriter. He purposely took out the smart vampire/Will Smith is the badguy angle, its not surprising Will Smith confirmed it in the commentary with the 'they are dumb' comment

Yeah, he cared about the female, but your going to see examples of that all over the animal kingdom of animals protecting their own.

The hook in the book of the Will Smith being the badguy looking at big picture is not in the movie at all. The book beats it over your head with him waking up everyday and hunting them down in cold blood during daylight Buffy the Vampire Slayer style while making grim jokes about it. The hunting quests kept the book character sane. This could have done it in the movie, but it would have been a darker/more violent movie and it would have taken away Will Smith's chance to go try to beat Tom Hanks at the 'Cast Away' stranded man acting category

He was a complete and total pussy and avoided confrontation at all cost except when he tried to capture a few to'cure' them (which the character in the book was doing in addition to his hunting quests).

They give the mutants/vamps enough to make them human and give the movie more of a shade. Imho, this played more into the 'there is some human left in them' rather then Will Smith being the actual badguy...the whole we can cure the apocalypse aspect that is inherent to the movie with his self-sacrifice and the cure.

In the book when he eventually gets caught they are cowering in fear of him, dozens of vamps, even though he's in chains. There is no curing of the apocalypse because the world is now a world of vampires...mankind has moved on and he's the freak.

Two totally different stories.

Between the film and the book. Sounds like y'all
just mad, or something. Or just looking for something
to cry about.

Its always better when the film decides to take
a completely different angle than the book, because
then the purists can't be pretentious and whine that
"they butchered the story." By changing the story
fundamentally, they left the book, and its legacy,
alone.

This is, ironically, why 'I Robot' was also good
and avoided the sci fi nerds' bitching and moaning:
it held onto the robot law fundamentals, but did so
in a completely different story. By doing that Everyone
wins: We got an excellent movie(people don't like to admit
it, but 'I Robot' was stellar) and the book's legacy is
left alone.

Same with 'I Am Legend': The book remains what it
was, and yet I got an enjoyable, excellent fuckin
movie out of it.

Sounds like y'all just invent shit to hate.

and I had no trouble understanding the flick. so i don't really think that's a valid argument. the vast majority of people who went to see the film, i'm willing to bet never read the book either.

I have to admit I feel it would have been a much better movie if they stuck to the book in this case, but not for the reasons above. In general, however, Im not a purist, and I am not niave to think that following the book automatically makes a better movie. Would the Bourne movies have been as good if he had a wife and kids and lived a suburban life? Of course not.

My beef came in with reply 21+22, when everyones like 'THATS WHAT THE MOVIE WAS ABOUT'.

No. That's what the book was about.

Your trying to make the movie much deeper then it was, when the movie barely hinted at it's book origins.

The book story wouldn't have worked, because it would
have required another half an hour of footage explaining
the inner-workings of the vampire psyche and society.
Unlike 'The Dark Knight', 'I am Legend' did not receive
a free pass from critics, and had to end in a decent
amount of time. It decided it would sacrifice a half hour
of extra footage, and went with what it had.

Personally, the movie was long enough as it is. It
didn't need an single extra scene, and very few
scenes were wasted.

Besides, this is a MOVIE where I'd prefer the story
delve into details of the protagonist, and not the
taxation laws of the vampire society. They film did
just that -- sacrificed nerdy book details about the
vampire society and gave us a compelling protagonist.

Much better fit for a film.

Even better, the film made allusions to the things
you're talking about in the book, so if you did read
the book or are intelligent like me, than you picked
the stuff up the first time you saw it.

Again - everyone wins:

The pretentious dickhead nerds like you have their
movie.

Smart people like me have a smart movie and a fun
movie.

Dumb niggas have a zombie flick.

Fucking awesome, and a blueprint more films should
follow.

Its been a couple of years since I read the story, but I don't remember any of that. If I remember correctly only hints you got were his observations that some of the vampires were more like zombies then others pretty smart when he was hunting them down.

When the vampire chick tricks him into thinking she's human she hinted at it with her questions and eventually with her warning note. This would have been the same exact sequence as when the woman and daughter first showed up, so I don't see how this would have wasted more time.

This isn't the Blade series, it would have taken no exposition whatsoever to show what was really happening, just a few hints.

Ill say that Will Smith being alone was probably a better movie then hollywood would have pulled off than the daytime vampire-hunter aspect...simply because they have beaten that to death in recent years. But when they started introducing actual badguys in the movie, it failed. At the end of the day it was a mediocre movie.

No, that would have introduced all sorts of shit that
required MORE explaining.

And the way it played out, it was perfect:

Keep the Zombie story interesting, but simple.

Put the burden of the script on uncovering Will Smith's
story, his psychological problems, his motivations for
living at all, his daily routine, and his plan of action.

All were done exceptionally well. Exceptionally well.

And all contribute to a more interesting film than some
nerdfest about Vampires and zombies. No one gives a shit.

>This isn't the Blade series, it would have taken no exposition
>whatsoever to show what was really happening, just a few
>hints.

Yeah, but a "few hints" wouldn't have been enough, because
you nerds would have still moaned and whined about it
not being the book. What they did instead was say "fuck the
nerds, we're doing a story about a compelling protagonist
with issues."

'I am Legend' was like a better, more edgy 'Cast Away.'

It had all the feel of 'Cast Away' on a much more interesting
backdrop, featuring a much better performance.

LOL. Badguys?

Motherfucka, the movie was NOT ABOUT NO BADGUYS.

It was about MOTIVATION.

It was about STRUGGLE.

It was a new age CREATION'S MYTH.

Its about the story of Jesus, and all those great
people who live in lore, and the power of sacrificial
acts.

That's what the fuck the movie was about.

It wasn't about no goddamn zombie, so please, shut that
dumb shit up.

Its not about JESUS literally, Einstein

Its about how sacrificial acts create legends.

I personally don't believe Jesus was the son of
god, but I do think he was a great person who did
wonderful sacrificial things for people and had a
legend built around him.....not to be sacrilgious,
but that's sort of how Will Smith was in the movie

What in god's name are you talking about?

"Murking dudes?"

"Flawed?"

He FOUND A CURE TO THE MOTHERFUCKING ILLNESS
THAT HAD WIPED OUT HUMAN CIVILIZATION, DUMBASS.

And he basically committed suicide, to
secure the chances of the cure being able
to reach others.

Not to mention the possibility that the cure
might be given to the existing zombies, if
their neurological damage isn't irreversible
(a nerdy detail that I'm glad wasn't explored)

If that ain't heroic, I don't know what the
fuck is.

And even better: He *wasn't* perfect, which is
sort of the POINT: You're defined ultimately
by your actions. If you do legendary shit for
others, you're a legend. He was borderline
schizo-paranoid. He was definiely depressed.
He wasn't some knight-in-shining-armor.

He was just a scientist who had a hunch,
and was right.

>I wanted him to fail.. and be some other type of legend.. you
>and dumbasses unable to think past good and bad.. and black
>and white.. are the reason this movie was made.. why do you
>think denzel won as a bad guy.. it pushed the envelope and
>took him outside his element..

Actually, Denzel won because it was lifetime
achievement award for the other times he should
have won. And that year was as good a year as ever
to give it to him, because 'Beautiful Mind' was going
to win Best Picture anyway and Russel Crowe already
had an Oscar of 'Gladiator'.

And there's hardly anything "pushing the envelope"
about a corrupt cop tale. That was a fun movie,
but hardly "pushing the envelope."

Sometimes the simple shit "pushes the envelope"
the most.

i thought this was wills chance
>instead they bitched up and made the movie that wont make your
>brain hurt..

>lets get everyone feeling good and remind them of
>jesus..

Actually, what made the film good is that Will
was sick in the head, schizophrenic, talking to
inanimate objects, probably suicidal.

That's what made the film excellent, specifically.
That is actually fairly rare for a protagonist.

Its actually cool - the fact that he was sick and
obsessive is probably what led him to the cure. His
obsession with it was tied to his other mental
illnesses. Very cool.

>will smith is good and accessible and would never be
>wrong.. he was killing the majority of species on manhattan..
>yes he was trying to save them.. but he was still killing
>them..

LOL

What the fuck else was he supposed to do?

No, seriously:

What the fuck else was he supposed to do?

No, answer the question:

Did the Zombies want to play playstation with
Will?

They would have KILLED HIM, whether he had ole
boys girlfriend, or not(Yes, they would have).

>he would kidnap them and run tests on him.. there are
>many moral issues with that especially with no proof anyone
>else was alive.. he was the minority yet he had the firepower
>to win.. and he did that.. but still it was safe..

Oh, trust me -- I'm all about medical ethics.

But not when there's virus that has wiped out
human civlization. Me and you both would kindap
a zombie in the effort to find a cure.

So, I ask again:

What the fuck else was he supposed to do?

No, but what the fuck else was he supposed to do?

Answer the question.

What, in Will Smith's case, was he supposed to do?

>if will was revealed @ the end to be a crazed psychotic killer

Man, fuck that shit.

My life is hard enough.

I don't need Hollywood to provide me with sad endings.
Reality ends sad. I know that life is hard.

I don't like ga-ga-goo-goo happy endings, but there's
nothing wrong with a nice, inspirational story, even
if it is gritty.

Hell, 'Saving Private Ryan' is the same way.

The ending isn't "Happy" but it is "inspirational."

Those are actually as cinematicaly challenging
as these PROFOUND sad endings that ya'll love.

Maybe a spaceship takes them to heaven where they find out God is really galactus?! Cmon dude. The way the ending is presented - the cure will be passed on to those who are infected and the human race is restored. That is happy. Yes, the protagonist dies but not in vein and it's for the survival of our race. How bout bitter sweet ending - that better?

Especially if it's in such a sappy sacrificial way. He served his purpose, he had no real love interest or a father connection to the girl.

If you felt bad for the character dying, it would be more because you felt more for the 'Will Smith' baggage then the actual scientist.

It doesn't bode well for good scriptwriting when we constantly refer to the character as Will Smith btw, lol.

Too often we make these heroic figures perfect.

They ain't gotta be.

They can be fucked in the head.

At the end of the day, with the chips on the line,
he did what he had to so that others can live.

That's the stuff legends are made of, dunny.

In my world, Jesus was probably flawed too.

Ain't nobody write down those flaws, because they
were busy appreciating the fact that he was a real
solid dude.

Same with Will.

When the girl and the little boy go and bring
back the cure, they ain't going to be talking
about how the nigga was schizophrenic.

They gonna talk about how sacrificial he was.

That would have been completely unnecessary and gimmicky
and retarded. And it would have been panned by the critics
a million times worse than it was, for those reasons.

There's too many movies with dumbass twists to begin with.

What we don't have are action movies starring GOOD ACTORS
with compelling contexts that have struggles that relate
metaphorically to the struggles of a lot of young, ambitious
people. That is eons more relevant and appropriate than a
nerdfest about the intricasies of vampire society. No one
would give a fuck and it would go wood.

Son,

Listing me a set of things a film is about
has nothing to do with sitting down and actually
making the fucking movie.

Hell, thousands of TRASH movies have EXCELLENT
premises.

Thousands of GREAT movies have BASIC premises.

More than often, UNDERSTATED is UNDERRATED.

Do the BASIC SHIT and do it WELL. In fact,
take a movie that is very well reviewed like
'The Dark Knight': I didn't like it so much,
but even people who love it admit that the 'Two
Face' twist was almost completely unnecessary.

What did they like about the film? Basic good
versus basic evil(Batman vs the Joker). No dumbass
twists or wrinkles.

And 'I am Legend' was superb because it focused
on something SIMPLE:

Instead of a vampire nerdfest with twists,
it decided to make a new age creations tale...
...like I said, a better 'Cast Away' in an
apocalyptic context. It was actually superb
for the SPECIFIC REASON THAT IT DIDN'T FOCUS
ON NO NERDY ASS VAMPIRES OR ZOMBIES.

It instead focused on the specifics of the
protagonist, and details of their struggle
that are often unexplored in hollywood films.

And it did so featuring a good enough actor to
pull it off.

you'll need execution but that holds true for the premise of will's I am legend. They happened to execute what they were going for. If whomever decided to make the "nerd" version of legend executed their premise it would have almost certainly been better. I mean, certain images in the book would've definitely been great on film - like where the vampires are calling robert's name when robert is alone in the house with a bottle of liquor. Shit woulda been dope. I'll say it again though, I liked the movie so I'm not really complaining. Just agreeing that the book took the story to a deeper/darker place that really woulda been nice to see.

You can do a million things in a film.

The simplicity I'm referring to is about
the number of moving parts. Films almost always
fall apart when they have too many moving parts
and things an audience member has to keep track of.

Successful films often have few moving parts,
and instead spend script time developing those
few moving parts, and developing very well.

VERY few films have a lot of shit going on and
are successful.

Hell, films like 'Goodfellas'. 'Raging Bull'.
'Do the Right Thing'. 'Forest Gump'. All have very
few moving parts. All are complex, but all feature
details at a micro level, not at the level of
things to keep track of at once.

Even action films like 'Indiana Jones(the first
3)' are *about* the PROTAGONIST and not *about* the
bad guys. We don't know, nor give a shit about the
origin of the bad guys. They're bad, and we're
pretty much okay with that. And Spielberg
certainly knew better than to make Indiana
Jones the bad guy. That would have been a
dumbass, unnecessary twist. He did it for a moment
in Temple of Doom, but of course, that's because
Jones was poisoned by the actual bad guys.

Instead, Spielberg did it right:

- Charismatic protagonist

- Fun, interesting backdrop

- Cool special effects

- Smart, but in the end, simple, villains.

'I am Legend' was far darker than any of the Indiana
Jones films, and so had a psychological examination
lean to it, but it was fairly similar in the basic
structure, which is why it was so good.

'Star Wars' is an example of a film that did many
moving parts well. It was able to do so for several
reasons:

1) It was a preconceived trilogy and knew it had time to
explain everything eventually

2)It tied the bad guys to the good guys, literally,
and so they ended up one moving part.

I'm actually making sense here. Give it a shot.

I know I act like a dick, but I know what I'm
talking about.

The last time a movie stayed true to the book

if executed properly it would not have been 3 hours long. It would have been as long as will's version most likely. And since when does giving a film a little more substance = nerdy? You're shittin on the general public right now - assuming they can't handle a little added texture. There is definitely a way to make the film with the elements we're speaking of without taking away from it's accessibility.

Or if you did you're assuming I'd want a whole lotta time dedicated to Robert finding the source bacteria. You can use the time Will spent in the lab looking for the cure on Robert finding out the difference between the vampires he thought he was killing and the new breed. That simple.

Not to mention - the film you hate so much, tdk, was long as hell dark and mumbled and jumbled it's way through the two face story yet still was loved by fans and critics. I know you'll say they were blinded by hype - but even if that's true - why wouldn't that work for I am legend if a big star and director were attatched?
Or you're just trying to run on assumptions to prove your point. Either way - I liked the movie as it is. I just jumped ini to say I agree that the if they stayed closer to the book it wouldve/couldve been better.

That was dope and was an entire part of his character.
Without the scenes of him in lab, we don't know that
he's an actual dedicated and accomplished scientist.
Without this detail, he's just a vampire hunter aimlessly
running around fighting shit.

See, this is what I mean -- the fact that you say
that the film can sacrifice the scientist footage
shows that you are a nerd, and out of touch with
reality.

Not hating, but its true.

You can't leave that shit out. Those are critical
details, details way more important about some
dumbass zombie hierarchy. No one cares.

Because 'I am Legend' is not the Batman story. It did
not have a dead actor playing one of the zombies. If
Heath Ledger doesn't die, The Dark Knight gets shitted
on by critics for being way too long.

Where did I say I'd remove those scenes? You're parsing words to make your argument. Shit is silly. I said the book based "Legend" could use the same amount of time of Robert in the lab as Will's version. Read man.

Read the book. The bacteria evolved quickly to the point where the vampire's were virtually human. Robert is murking humans thinking they are the living dead. He is a boogie man. This set up is not nerdy ock.

Yes, and given his relationship with his dog we can infer that maybe there's not as much difference between humans and other animals as we would like to believe.

Which reminds me that even the vampires in the film kept their dogs on leashes.

In the book everyday like clock work he would wake up, make fun of the feral vamps taunting him, and would travel house to house staking them...its been a minute but i even think the book hinted that before he would stake some of em how peaceful and human they looked(and he probably staked a child or two).

In the book the scientist character was a survivalist who took a 'Its us vs them' approach while dealing with the madness of the situation In the movie that was replaced with a study of what it would be like to be the last human, specifically Smith's loneliness: showcased by the dog.

I just can't see the choice of suddenly making the vamps look as unhuman as possible, but still hinting at the whole 'they are people/he is the asshole'. Why would you make them so monsterous, so unhuman, so CGI when the opposite would have been much easier on the wallet F/X wise unless you were purposely trying to downplay the story. A blockbuster movie wouldn't go the subtle route.

Its a possiblity you can see some of these shades because that's the source material. But imho, that's not where they were aiming with the rewrite of the story.

The pictures imho were more to show how futile his past attempts were, rather then to show how he was torturing them.

A blockbuster movie generally wouldn't spend 2/3rds of the film looking at a man in solitude, and yet this one did.

Also, the CGI was so horrible that it'd surprise me if they really claimed to go all out on it.

That's the thing, though. I'm watching the movie, seeing all these instances of Will's racism cloud him of the intelligence these vampires possess to such an extent that when I got to the "they're just insane monsters" ending, I immediately knew it was re-shot since the previous 2 hours didn't lead up to that moment.

It's not about showing torture, it's about showing that he's killed a hell of a lot of these dudes. Not just "a few". Now I don't think they had a mad-on for him just cause he was killing them, I think that the attack, which was nicely co-ordinated by the leader, was simply because dude wanted his girl back.

Can't believe I'm up here defending this wackass movie.

>Can't believe I'm up here defending this wackass movie.

Really, my beef with the movie is this:

Even though vampire movies have been beaten to death, this could have been a really cool one, and the books story were kinda tailor made for a blockbuster.

The twist was very old school M.Night.
There were plenty of excuses to have battles/fights
You had the love interest
And the loneliness/trying to keep sanity
and in the end you had a huge shootout/climactic battle.

It's something where I was surprised they changed so much from the book considering the basic plot+will smith=money in the bank imho

Ill even say this much, I probably would have been totally cool with the movie if it wasn't for the CGI. It was unrealistic looking, and a unnecessary departure from the book. Get some horror movie FX guys, give a bunch of extra's red contacts, give it some good edits and it would have made it a much better movie.

It's just that even though I am poking fun, I thought the first half was solid, if not good. I thought Will Smith acted his ass off. But after he lost his dog and the vamps started to be real antagonists, the movie just started to suck because it kept on drawing me out of it...rather then being spooked I was like 'These monsters look horrible'.

then he can either say fuck it & get real crazy w/ the zombie murders....

head zombie was ramming his head thru plexiglass...there was no WAY he wasnt gonna kill Will

and Will had just realized the cure for the virus

so to buy the lady & the kid some time & because he was near the end of his mental rope anyway, he gave them the cure so they could save everyone & sacrificed himself

not because he realized HE was wrong...Will in the movie im sure died feeling he was being noble as shit thruout

Cmon dude...it was a sick movie. Quit crying cus Will can actually grow facial hair.

I think it shouldve been called something else.. kind of like what they did with "omega man" or "the last man on earth" because no1 is truly right in this argument.. "book nerds" like myself will never accept this movie because we know what we "wished and imagined" it would be.. "logical people" like the orbit guy will understand the difference and take what they could from both sources and combine them.. truly "logical people" like reg will see why neither of us are right but wont understand why we feel so strongly about it.. People new to the series like bin will have questions because no matter what you say the movie leaves questions unanswered and knowing its a book the only source for answers is the original text.. all this is cut out if they call it what it was "a remake of the two previous versions with a will smith twist".. no 1 will agree on this because the perspectives will always be different.. but you have to agree that the idea of a prequel is pushing the limits.. btw.. since im a nubee.. ill introduce myself.. Im a 24yr old junior/senior in a 4yr uni wasting his time with a middle eastern studies/poli sci degree.. my first movie experience was "Batman" and since then ive been hooked.. i am a self confessed book nerd.. i always read the book before seeing the movie then i read again to dissect.. I got caught up in PTP due to the love of anime and comedy in here.. hope to continue posting in here and continuing these discussions..

In response to Reply # 128

Y'all movie would have all types of dumb shit,
omplete with 45 minutes of dialogue about
the differing races of zombies and details
about the evolution of the virus to avirulence,
meaning the zombies aren't evil, complete with
a scene describing how Will is harming the
poor little zombies!

Talk about a lame story: The lesson their
would be that the good guy/bad guy perspective
is relative and that often times the people
that win write the history to make themselves
look better.

^^^^OMG. PROFOUND

LOL.

That storyline ain't deep, nigga.

The movie that actually exists is actually
deeper than that bullshit.

And that lesson is sappier than the actual lesson, which
is more edgy and gangsta

Swear y'all will buy anything non-standard and call
it "profound" and "pushing the envelope"

Why for?

You the one in here telling me some dumbass story
about how Will Smith is really the bad guy and the
vampire/zombies are the victims oppressed by Will
Smith is somehow "pushing the envelope."

LOL

Maybe to a kid in the fourth grade

Nothing original or edgy about that.

The actual movie's storyline was far
more edgy and provocative

The one you guys are pushing is sappier
and stupider than the alleged "happy ending"
in the movie

LOL

I had on a Bob Marley shirt at the gig.

Random White Dude ( trying to be 'hip') : "what'chu know about Marley?!?!?"

me: "A LOT...what's up? You wanna ask me about his catalog or somethin'?"

him: "uh...nothing. Just askin'..."

*then he makes the *weed smoking* gesture.*

him "That's what I meant...*nervous laughter*"

me: "oh."
( and I had my patented "FOH" face on)

so yeah, aside from "Legend" people really don't fuck with Bob like that.

and when Will tells her that he is a reggae artist, she says something like, "Oh don't you mean Damian?"

(record scratch)

what????......I'm sorry...there is nobody on this planet who would know Damian Marley and not know Bob.

That is the point where the film lost all credibility to me.

Oh and the fact that he was too nervous to talk to the "hot" mannequin at the video store.
