"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Movie"
Mon Mar-07-11 11:24 AM by Dae021

I don't know if anyone has made a post about this yet, I searched for it, but didn't see it. If so lock away

Has anyone seen this?

The wife and I watched it last night, and we spent a lot of the movie comparing and contrasting the book and the movie.

I'm not sure i'd call it good, but it was sort of entertaining.

The pace was fast, there were things that were left out, things that were completely overlooked. Things that we sort of felt like were crucial to the story that were just out and out omitted. Did anyone else see this and feel the same?

I'm trying not to give away too much of the story for anyone who still hasn't read it and/ or wants to see the movie.

A LOT of background information, so you have a really good idea of why things are happening and what's important and what is less important.

I still have to finish the 2nd book before we can watch the girl who played with fire.

Although the first name was "Men who hate women" i'm not sure why they changed it.

To answer your question I don't think this movie can be done on the easy side, it's either rugged or it's not right plain and simple. It's harsh look at some serious stuff.

it's a ton of background information that you don't feel like leads anywhere. The further along it goes the more it starts to pick up.

I think if you can get through the front half of the book the back half is a good payoff.

like that sounds like the "alternative" music the black dj is trying to throw in between his other mixes to "shake" the crowd up and FAILS AT HORRIBLY...

but from the footage, I see they may have followed the book more closely than we all assumed (i.e. SPOILER ALERT: the controversial rape scenes of Lisbeth AND LATER her male sponsor--oh hell, david fincher is GOING IN, I SEE)

but i can't wait...the cast the right actress for lisbeth (i would have hurled if kristen stewart, scarlett johansson or even ellen page had been chosen....oscar or not, natalie portman would have been a SHIT CHOICE also), daniel craig and sean penn's ex-wife robin wright...OSCAR BAIT! OSCAR BAIT! OSCAR BAIT!

It's like, cmon, Sony, this title is strong enough to sell on the merits of Fincher and the book (er, sorry, the "trilogy") alone, there's no need for the "shaky cam in front of a computer" effect

Even if Fincher himself came up with the idea of doing this it's still lame

BTW, the music is a remake of Immigrant Song by Trent Reznor and Karen O

In response to Reply # 28

I'd stick with the books and skip the movies. I even thought some of the casting besides Blomkvist and Salander was off. There is really just too much information in the books to ever translate well into a movie. The first one was decent but the other two were pretty bad.

I'm encouraged to see Fincher tackle this material. It already looks better than the Swedish versions.

Ok that's harsh, but they just leave out so much info that actually makes things make sense that you miss so much in the films. Things that were so unnecessary, like the warehouse scene with Paolo Roberto and the azn chick fighting Niederman. Why cut that scene up differently it made no sense.

they would just randomly figure things out in the mystery as opposed to having some build up and having grand reveals...things just sorta happened in those films. it was like they made a list of things that they wanted to shoot from the films and they just shot them without thinking of how to pace it or create any sorta suspense. most of the acting was pretty wooden too.

I agree wholeheartedly. You've got to have someone skilled to bring the great parts of the story to life without having the story be bogged down in every detail of the book sort of the way the Da vinci code movie was.

I'm more lookin forward to the movie because I have a feeling it's going to be better than the Swedish ones, which upon further look get worse and worse.

That being said I haven't read the books or seen the movies but I'll still probably check this out for her, Craig & Fincher. I hope there's a better trailer tho. Not really feeling this one.

Or even seen the other movies, there are some shots that are tied directly to the books and such.

I know the swedish ones are hard to watch, I hope that this is a little easier to watch for someone like yourself who hasn't read the books.

Loved the books and enjoyed the 3 movies as well. I agree the movies are too convoluted at times with key elements of the book translated rather poorly in the movies but they were no bad at all.

David Fincher has never disappointed me before and with a strong cast like this. It should be very satisfying. I'm amazed at how similar the 2 Lisbeths look. The poster though reveal that American Lisbeth got bigger boobs. Noomi Rapace had no boobs at all , I always thought that it was deliberate to emphasize her butchness. I still think imho that little Miss Rooney Mara got big boots to fill, Rapace's presence was riveting in the Swedish trilogy, it's like the movie stopped when she was off camera.

She was the best part of those movies.

They definitely played up the butch aspect of her character, but Rooney Mara is a LITTLE bit larger in the bust, not much the poster is airbrushed so just remember that.

I'm excited to see what they do with this flick since the swedish films can be so disjointed at times

her silence and disdain for authority plays really strongly into authority figures wanting to do bad things to her, you know to sort of SHOW her that she has to respect them and do what she says.

I on't know she's not my style at all, but someone likes it.

...Sony is letting Fincher have free reign on this. He said that Fincher is sticking very close to the novel. He also said that he is genuinely sick by some of the footage he's seen and doesn't see how this can get an R rating. He also noted that Sony fully believes in this flick as they threw $100 million into the production

And no mas. I tried both Philly and New York.

On another note, I finished the book and streamed the first Swedish flick. Two things:
1. Noomi Rapace was the best thing about the movie. That shit felt like a rushed TV movie. Even at 2 and a half hours.
2. Will Fincher keep the part in the book where one of the murder/rape victims has a dead cockatoo shoved in her pussy?

Also. Not exactly sure how I feel about this but, I trust Fincher :http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/movies/director-of-new-stieg-larsson-movie-says-hes-altered-ending/story-e6frfmvr-1226128552687

Although I will say there are times when book 3 gets to a point where you're finishing just to finish it.

If you cna get through the 1st half of the 1st book then you can finish the series.

It's a good series a bit overhyped and sometimes a bit overlong and wordy, but overall good to read. We still haven't seen the 3rd movie yet. not sure we'll get around to it.

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. Also, the run time is 2hrs. and 52 mins. Glad Fincher won and got his (almost) 3 hour cut and Sony didn't win their 2hr. cut.

In other new Reznor posted on his Twitter that he recorded 2hrs. and 40 something odd minutes of score. He said to clear disk space on your harddrives...

Honestly with a story this dense if it's not 3 hours you're going to lose really serious pieces of the story. I think that's the problem that plaques the swedish films, they move too quickly and miss some really important aspects of the story.

I can't wait to see this.

101. "Fincher does it again..."
In response to Reply # 0

A couple of things first. Rooney Mara was scared of me. I could tell she thought I was Nils Burjman from the film. Second, during the Q&A Fincher would not talk about the viral marketing or the scavenger hunt. Afterwards he came up to and said Sony is pissed at those sites and the scavenger hunt. During the Q&A he seemed like he was just irratated and sick of dealing with Sony. I highly doubt he's gonna come back for the next two chapters.

And now my review...(spoilers of course you dumbasses)

David Fincher is a master. The American adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a VERY faithful adaptation of the book. Even more so than the 2009 Swedish version. You can tell from the opening shot of the snowy landscape over Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ score that this is gonna be an entirely different beast than what the Swedish version has done. What I find funny is that these two adaptations of Steig Larrson’s epic and dense novel are almost the same exact running time of two hours and thirty minutes and yet to me, while the Swedish version felt like a rushed TV movie, this took it’s time in letting the story unfold. Unfornately, I have a feeling that Fincher will not be back for the next two. More on that later…

Lisbeth Salander (played by Rooney Mara) is a goth punk computer hacker, who is a social misfit and works for a security firm. Mikael Blomkvist (played by Daniel Craig) is a journalist who just lost a big case in which he tried to publicly exploit an tycoon who’s money funds very illegal activities named Hans-Erik Wennerstrom. Henrik Vanger (played by Christopher Plummer) seizes an opportunity to take the disgraced Blomkvist, and hiring him find out who in his despicable family murdered his favorite great-niece, Harriet. In return he will be paid handsomely and will be handed evdeince against Wennerstrom that will bring him to his knees. During his investigation Blomkvist meets and brings on Salander to help him solve the forty year old mystery of Harriet Vanger.

If you haven’t read the book(s) or seen the Swedish version then skip the next section of this review.

So first and foremost let’s talk about the changes and differences between the book and it’s two adaptations. In this, the American, version they streamlined Harriet and Anita into one character at the end for the big reveal, so that way the journey to finding her is much simpler, as they still have a ton of other things to wrap up. In the Swedish film they do stick to the novel and have Blomkvist travel to Australia to find Harriet. Cinematicaly it makes sense as first time viewers aren’t gonna watch forty five minutes of resolution as the film ties up the many loose ends from the book. Another change is at the end of this film they did not send Blomkvist to jail like in the book and Swedish version. And that’s completely understandable for the same reason I just stated. Also, once Henrik has his stroke in the movie he’s out of commission for the rest of the picture until the climax, unlike the book and the Swedish film. The first time Salander and Blomkvist have sex is done totally different but still in the nature of the two characters. The biggest change and the one that bothered me the most was Lisbeth giving away a major plot point in the second book. That she set her father on fire. The second book plays on that mystery of what she did. Even the Swedish film plays on that. And for them to nonchalantly give it away in passing at the end was poor.

End of spoilers

Rooney Mara kilt it as Lisbeth Salander. She totally embodied Lisbeth with the ticks and nuances that the character has. I loved how when ever she entered a room where people she cared about would be she would say “hey hey hey” in the cutest, inviting way. She was also ferocious when she needed to be, giving that hard edge that came with the character. But to me the key to her performance was in the eyes. At times her eyes tell you she broken by the harsh world around her. When Blomkvist comes into her life and towards the end in her eyes you can see that hole in her is filled which makes the ending even more heartbreaking than what was presented in the book. However, I did like Noomi Rapace better than Rooney, just because Noomi has a certain grit that she brings to Lisbeth making her more hard edge than Rooney. Not to knock Rooney as she does such a great job with such a demanding role. She hides nothing on screen as I pretty sure in one brief shot you can see her vajayjay. Daniel Craig is Mikael Blomkvist. He brings the certain suave to the character and he is attractive enough where you believe he could sleep with women like how Stieg wrote in the book. Granted he doesn’t sleep with Celia Vanger like in the book, but to me he did a much better job than what Michael Nyqvist did. Also, I believed the relationship more in this one than in the Swedish film as I think Rooney and Daniel played off each other better. You can see their affections grow alot more in this version.

Which brings me to the man, the myth, the legend David Fincher. There are certain shots that can only come from the mind of Fincher. And the humor he brought with it too. Such as during a torture scene the killer plays Enya’s “Sail Away”. It certain little things like that where you’re laughing and then appalled the next second. This is a brutal film. My hat goes off to David and Rooney for the rape scene. That is one of the most painful rapes to watch in cinema history. I was squirming in my seat, as I was witnessing was unfolding on screen. If you read the book and seen the Swedish version, nothing can prepare you for how graphic and brutal that was. Also, the cat turning up dead on the doorstep was ten times worse than what Stieg wrote. Especially, when it gets to a close-up on the cat, disgusting. Also, only David Fincher could create a opening credit sequence that is epic and like nothing we’ve see before with black metallic oil morphing into characters and symbols from the movie. Also, having Trent and Karen O’s excellent version of “Immigrant Song” play over the opening credits boldly states where here, were epic, be prepared for an intense crime thriller.

Speaking of the score, Trent and Atticus Ross made a moody atmospheric score. And while I prefer The Social Network’s score to this one, it’s still a fine score in it’s own right. The score under that rape scene enhanced it by making it that much more unnerving than any other cinematic rape I’ve ever seen.

Before, I wrap this up, I wanted to go back and talk about Sony. From what I was told Fincher’s first cut of the film was three hours and seven minutes. And by all means he should’ve released his cut. David is one of the hardest working filmmakers in the business. Coming onto this project just twenty six days after completing The Social Network. To me any filmmaker who gave you a hit with Panic Room, and then gave you a classic film that speaks for a whole generation with The Social Network deserves carte blanche. From what I’ve been told and heard he was strong armed into making this two hours and thirty minutes to get more showtimes in theaters. Also, the complex viral marketing and scavenger hunt with the site mouth-taped-shut.com is supposedly getting him into to trouble with Sony. You hired an auteur to make such an amazing adaptation and this is how you treat him? I’m scared because I want Mr. David Fincher to complete his trilogy and I don’t think it’s gonna happen because of dumbass studio executives, who can’t let the man have fun and make the best product possible and give a fun treat to the fans.

All in all I can’t wait to see this at the opening midnight show. It was alot to take in and seriously my hat goes off to everyone involved in this production. After viewing the two film versions and reading the book, it’s best to say to judge these in their own entities as they’re their own works in their own right.

I haven't read the books because I don't particularity like reading about rapes.

Is there just one rape, or is it hate filled rape-a-thon?

Honest question - I feel culturally illiterate for not reading the books - but then again I don't need to read about sadist shit.

I have not seen the Swedish trilogy, nor have I read the books

But what I gather from friends is that the books, while on the surface existing as nothing but trashy whodunits, are also strong statements about violence against women. Perhaps at some point I will get to read said books and see the Swedish adaptations (they're forever lodged in my Netflix queue) but I'm going to find it hard for them to match the cold-blooded intensity of this film here. The violence-against-women aspect of the books is certainly in full force here, though.

For those of you who thought that Dave was going soft with that Benjamin Button shit, you thought wrong. This movie is BRUTAL. It was a bit of a shock to see a product with the Sony label be so... mean and nasty. But apparently that's what they wanted Fincher to do, so he did it. There are scenes that are by their design supposed to be uncomfortable. And they are. Fincher goes hard. He's not gonna cut away (though I thought he cheated a little with the second "sequence," as it were -- No Spoil-o -- by not at least panning down to show what... okay, that's far enough). But yeah, if you didn't dig the violence in Drive, this probably isn't the flick to go to, because there's a great deal of it here. Not to mention a couple of rapes, and a bit of torture. Some really nasty, sadistic shit. Merry Christmas.

But all of it sure as hell looks great. I can imagine people saying that it's nothing more than "glossy Goth," rape and murder and piercings and titties (and a LOT of Apple product placement) with the Fincher sheen put on top. And to that, I say, uh, what exactly were you expecting?

Let me take a second to mention how much I dug the opening credits. With its black oil-like sludge, which covers the bodies of (computer models of) our heroes, set to the dope-ass Immigration Song remake by Trent/Atticus and Karen O, I couldn't help but think of it as a cheeky Fincher "loving middle finger" tribute to the James Bond credit sequences. I mean, this movie *does* star Daniel Craig, and *is* being thrown to the world by Sony/MGM...

Speaking of Daniel Craig, his performance was kinda just there. He was fine. I just couldn't get my mind off of how short he apparently is, and wondered how much Fincher had to cheat in order to shoot him in a bunch of scenes. I should not be thinking about these things as I watch an actor. So his performance was an eh.

The thing about it is, though, that this movie isn't really about him, it's about Lisbeth Salander. And Rooney Mara, the lithe and Nat Portman-esque woman who ethered Mark Zuckerberg in the first 5 minutes of The Social Network, was quite impressive with this performance. Sure, there was still a part of me that felt like I was watching a society girl, an "ock-triss," trying her hardest to be "down" with the whole Riot Grrl thing, but then I decided to be fair and understand that she really sunk herself into the role, tics and all, and that Mara did an admirable job carrying the movie like she was asked to do. A damn good performance. Respect.

Once this goes wide I'm pretty sure some of the book readers will disagree with (and complain about) the creative decisions that Steven Zaillian made near the end. I'll just say that on the one hand, it makes better sense than apparently what happens in the book; on the other, if you're paying attention, the "twist" won't really seem like that big a deal.

I guess the best thing I can say is that Fincher treats the material with the "weight" and "heft" that he thinks it deserves, which I believe isn't very much. It's a "dark," nasty, enjoyable ride into the depraved depths of a segment of European society. It's also in my top 10 of the year.

... which I guess isn't surprising given Fincher's style, but I certainly didn't leave the theater feeling like I'd seen a masterpiece, as I have with "Seven," "Zodiac," "Social Network" etc. It's definitely good: Rooney Mara is excellent, Craig is solid as usual, Fincher's visual style remains captivating and Reznor hits another home run with the soundtrack, but I couldn't connect with it much at all on an emotional level.

Full disclosure: I went in not having read the book nor seen the original film adaptation, so my opinion isn't colored by a relationship to the previous works, but it came off like a darker, really stylish and elongated episode of "Dexter" or something. I'm not sure how it comes across in the book or the Swedish version, but I don't know how much I bought into the relationship between Lisbeth and Mikhail. And the epilogue felt tacked on and slightly ridiculous -- from reading the synopsis of the Swedish version on Wikipedia, it sounds like I'd prefer how it played out in that one.

Still, I'd definitely recommend any Fincher fans or fans of the source material to see the movie -- but I, for one, wasn't totally blown away.

Seriously, this movie has some of the greatest little comic relief bursts of "HA!" ive seen in a minute. To go from such sadistic darkness to such gasp inducing bursts of laughter,...masterful.

Having said that, Mara was incredible. So believable. She's not physically intimidating and she has moments of weakness. She uses her size to her advantage in many ways. I like that she wasnt some asskicking columbiana. It wouldnt have been believable. She's like a little dog that thinks its a giant by barking loudly. You might take a second and say "whoa, look at that dog" but you're not really "scared" of her per se.

Craig is good in this. He doesnt ever really sink into the role. He kinda just goes about it. It's his chemistry with Mara that really shines though. Unfortunately, it's almost 1.5 hours into the movie that they actually interact.

Oh yeah, i never read the books and only saw parts of the first chapter of the swedish version.

Fincher does an incredible job and I really hope he comes back for the next two.

Great performance by him as always

Mara made a lot of bitches mad when she nabbed that role but she murked the shit out of it & I can't imagine any of the more popular established actresses doing it any better

The combination of Craig's charisma & Fincher's fantastic direction really carried the movie

Perfect score & the comedic relief made it a tad less dark than I expected

Damn shame what they did to that cat

Might check out the original & book now for a comparison

Truly a testament to Fincher that he gets the entire cast A games. I aint seen Goran Visnjic in a grip but even he was beasting in a bit part. Same with The Social Network minus Bimbolake but hey. He's a director not a miracle worker.

Natalie, save for Black Swan, The Professional and The Closer, seems to be content coasting on past glory. and has YET to show me she really CAN convincing get into a character (whenever i see her on film, it's almost like you can TELL she's not into it with the characters she plays and doesn't seem real comfortable with 100% committing, etc.)

i just came back from seeing it a couple hours ago, and in the movie's defense, i was already tired going into the theater..so....i kinda was nodding inand out alot in the beginning, but once things started to hit rock bottom for Lisbeth, i couldn't help but pay attention....as far as the rape goes, i don't think a scene in a movie pissed me off/pulled me in that much since Rappaport in the stairway in Higher Learning...it took everything in me to stay in the theater and not trip out...

...i agree with what people said about Craig's performance, and parts of the "mystery", but i really left the theater feeling like i'd seen something really great, and i'm gonna have to go watch it again after the holidays...

....Lisbeth was SO awesome in this movie that i actually despised Mikael in the end, but i understood his side too....made me think about how you can go above and beyond for someone who really isn't worth it, and about how the newspaper lady probably learned what he was about long ago and accepted him for the temp/FB that he is....

Carey Mulligan, Ellen Page, Kristen Stewart, Natalie Portman, Mia Wasikowska, Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Olivia Thirlby, Emily Browning Eva Green, Scarlett Johansson, Sophie Lowe, Sarah Snook, Léa Seydoux, Emma Watson, Evan Rachel Wood, and Katie Jarvis were among the actresses considered for the lead role. (Some actresses turned down the role; others were rejected by filmmakers and the studio) Ultimately, Rooney Mara won the coveted role of Lisbeth Salander.

Jennifer Lawrence was rejected because she was too tall...damn! Lol!

i do see, in what Mara did, someone who most definitely SAW the swedish versions, saw the feral and ridiculous brilliance that Rapace BROUGHT to the role and realized she would have played herself by trying to replicate that...

and she did her own take on it.

I don't care what american critics say, Mara was terrific in it (and she rightfully deserves a nomination for her work), but Rapace has and always WILL BE LISBETH SALANDER. PERIOD.

I know why Sony made this (the first book sold what, close to 70 million copies worldwide, and the first movies did ridiculously well worldwide? I mean, hell, Music Box tried to get the first swedish movie qualified for the 2010 oscar race and it nearly happened...)

so sony isn't stupid. they KNOW they'll make their money overseas with this...

though i have to agree with Daniel Craig, I do need give Sony a couple "EDGE" points for marketing the HARD R this movie got....so many studios would have forced fincher to make this PG-13...

i'm glad they didn't...

though i dug Mara's performance and how she approached it. There is a level of vulnerability there that Rapace lacked...

BUT, Sony and Steve Zallian *FAILED* by not addressing Lisbeth's autism (which would have added a lot of weight to her being a computer genius and possessing serious research/investigative skills)....

and yay for Mara and Robin Wright for having swedish accents...i'm still on the fence with the british accents i heard and the weak explanations the cast and crew are giving (oh we have dutch, danish, british, etc. we wanted a "more european" voice or swedish people who immigrated to britain have a better command of the queen's english more than brits because they watch BBC, etc. smh)....

Nothing here that isn't in an episode of Criminal Minds. I'm totally unaware of what happens in the books or the first movie, but the "thriller" stuff is really painfully obvious to me-- who the bad guy is, etc.

Mara is terrific. The music is good though it's not as memorable as The Social Network music, but that's mostly the fault of the movie, not the music itself. I loved the opening credits-- they set up this epic film that never really materializes.

for *KILLING* this remix of "Immigrant Song") really did have me thinking it was going to be an epic movie...

and it wasn't.

the film still was good. i would put it on my best of list...but it would be at the bottom of that list...

i love david fincher, but it's almost like he's falling back on the aesthetic he clearly has and didn't really stretch himself.

the score was good...will probably get a nomination but i don't think reznor will win...

but it is a good movie, just not the great film i'm sure many fans of the larson novels thought it would be...

This movie seemed to indicate they are.

Don't get me wrong, watching people stare at computers and look in libraries for 2 hours was exciting, just like it was really exciting when I saw The DaVinci Code.

Not to mention the twist of who the murderer is is painfully obvious. Like... PAINFULLY obvious.

If it wasn't for Mara, I would probably be roasting this film in my review. Just a notable lack of action and motivation for characters, and the entire movie is basically one long set of exposition.

you know up front it's a member of the family. there's zero reason not to suspect everyone from jump, so there's really no surprises as to who winds up being the killer. it wasn't presented as a "twist" at all imo. the fact that he was as sophisticated as he was with a full on rape cave and whatnot, well, yeah... him being on *that* level was unexpected, but even then, it was hardly presented as a revelatory moment.

the actual twist was the fact that he didn't kill her, and the fact that she wasn't dead at all. i had my suspicions but there was never a "yeah, that's harriet" moment. i just thought it was a possibility.

>Just a notable lack of action

it's not an action movie though, nor does it ever make a pretense of being one. nothing in the trailer even slightly indicates that it's an action movie.

>and motivation for
>characters

????????????? the motivation of each character was very clearly established in no uncertain terms. it's not even up for debate to be honest, every major character had crystal clear motivations.

-mikael was enticed by his dire situation; henrik provided the promise of the evidence he'd need to bring down wennerstrom, which after mikael losing a libel suit against the guy and getting cleaned financially in the process, well. .that's pretty strong motivation to take the case. getting to clear his name, make double his usual salary and bring down the guy who just gave his life the long donkey cock? yeah, i'd call that powerful motivation.

-lisbeth was enticed by the opportunity to catch a murderer and rapist of women. considering the brutal abuse we witnessed on screen, in addition to the easily assumed brutality she likely suffered off screen, what other motivation does she need?

-henrik wanted to find out what happened to his niece, once and for all. sound motivation.

-martin was an exit wound, if you will; he was far worse than the initial 'wound', his father, who abused him and gave rise to his own sadistic desires.

>and the entire movie is basically one long set of
>exposition.

considering that the entire plot of the story hinges on exposition.... yeah. that's sort of the point. it's a mystery thriller where the central plot is uncovering the mystery. i would expect a lot of digging and research montages.

Unless every character is really rich, then I fail to be enticed. I had my level of interest wax and wane, depending on when Lisbeth was on screen or not.

The main moment in which I fail to see the motivation is Martin's killing of the cat. Does he want him gone? He's the head of the company, just agree with everyone else in your family and kick him out. Does he want him to stay and find who killed Harriet? Then why send him a mangled cat?

I was basically forced to narrow it down to "oh, Martin's insane," which I find to be a pretty weak explanation.

I also found the idea that Mikhail's obsession with solving this "Rebecca case" trumps his ability to look out for his well-being when he's seemed pretty self-obsessed to this point to be somewhat troublesome.

Never had any issue with Lisbeth's motivations, or with Henrik's really. But one of the protagonists and the antagonist had pretty facile character motivations that seemed inconsistent to me as depicted in this film (have no idea what the motivations in the book or the original film are).

Once you start investigating something so extreme such as the cold case he was given, you're gonna wanna what the fuck exactly happened. I mean the disappearance of a girl in thin air combined with a serial killer brutalizing women...yeah I want to know what the fuck was going on too. Add to the fact that Henrik and Frode would know if he was half assing his investigation.

As for Martin, it was clear to me that he thought Blomkvist would never get as far as he did in his investigation and hiding the fact that he has a big fucking secret to hide, he wanted to make himself the obvious choice that he has nothing to do with any of it by say oh yeah let them continue, while trying to scare them off. Guilty people do that type of shit in real life, not to this extreme but you know what I mean.

if frank struggled to find mikaels motives then he's simply being willful in his ignorance. it's clear as day, spelled out, i's dotted, t's crossed, etc. he's an investigative journalist. the guy who hired mikael presented mikael an opportunity to take down the guy who all but ruined mikael. that in itself was PLENTY.

this is nothing more than the legless criticism we get from a lot of pro critics. it's common. i respect frank but he falls into this pretty often, it seems. i mean, if it wasn't CRYSTAL clear from the beginning, the second they found strong evidence there was a string of rape/murders of exceptional brutality that were likely related, that should have hammered the point home. if it didn't, he must've been napping.

i mean.... that's pretty strong motivation. there's a guy out there torturing and raping women, and there's a damn good chance mikael is hot on the guys trail. catching a guy like that and saving an untold number of women from that fate, in addition to the fact that his reward for even taking the case was said to be information that would destroy the guy who destroyed HIM- you know, the motivation that was cleary established from the very beginning- is pretty damn strong.

" i can't figure out his motivation" is a bullshit catch-all, like randy jackson and his "that was a little pitchy" critiques. sometimes it's accurate, but it's often a crutch to use when there isn't much else because, dammit, you gotta criticize SOMETHING.

It's his motive to stay on the island. Why not take your boxes back home and work there when there is a killer on the island leaving cats on your doorstep for reasons I still don't quite understand? You're already going home frequently enough, Henrik is in the hospital and probably doesn't care where you're doing your work, you've interviewed everyone on the island already (maybe there was one or two people he hadn't, but if he hadn't by that point, he could always just come back if he needed to). I couldn't find a reason other than "he needs to be there so he's in immediate danger according to the plot."

Look, motivation is only something that I search for (and most pro critics, I suppose) when I'm not interested in the character. I personally didn't care about Mikhail, and when he was on screen, I wanted to stop watching him and start watching Mara. So, as a barely-pro critic, I start trying to figure out why I didn't like that character. Is it motivation? The story itself? Getting outshined? Maybe his arc is less cinematic than Mara's? I can only make guesses, but I have to try, because me "just not liking the character" for no reason is in my opinion a sloppier criticism than one in which I try to explain why I felt that way.

And why would I criticize it for no reason, lol? I thought Zodiac and Social Network were both utterly flawless, and I thought Benjamin Button's back half was brilliant. I'm become a big Fincher fan over the last several films. What reason do I have to criticize SOMETHING in this movie, other than... me not liking something, which is a fair response to have?

personally, i don't see how he'd get off the island with all those documents. that was the whole reason he prvoided the cottage. Also, considering the fact that he pretty much knew it would be someone on the island, there's a far greater opportunity to discover something new by being nearby. the fact that someone was attacking him was proof positive.

granted, mara figured her side out away from the island, but i suspect actually living off island would have made it more difficult to get the sort of access they got. also, henrik was no longer running the show and his assistant was far more stringent.

perosnally, it would make more sense to explain why you don't like a character as opposed to grasping for straws to have an element to complain about. if you don't like him, explain why.

>And why would I criticize it for no reason, lol? I thought Zodiac and Social Network were both utterly flawless, and I thought Benjamin Button's back half was brilliant. I'm become a big Fincher fan over the last several films. What reason do I have to criticize SOMETHING in this movie, other than... me not liking something, which is a fair response to have?<

well, that sort of underscores my point; you didn't like or care about mikail, yet rather than expound on what left you disengaged with him, you diluted that to him simply having no motivation. i'm saying he had plenty of motive for all of his actions.

oh and calling you a 'pro' critic as opposed to a 'semi pro' critic was intentional, because calling you 'semi pro' seemed too belittling, which wasn't my purpose. granted i don't get some of your critiques (nothing personal, just movie critics in general often leave me scratching my head), but i still respect your show and your overall approach to it, so i figured calling you 'semi pro' might have come across a little harsh.

that said, i just feel that mikail had plenty of motivation. it's not your dislike for the character that i disagree with, it's the specific element your critique used to convey that.

And I'm sure if he told Henrik, "Yo, someone tried to shoot me AND they butchered a cat on my doorstep," Henrik wouldn't have responded, "I don't give a fuck! Stay here! And while you're at it, stop traveling off the island so much!"

It's a minor detail that just stuck in my head. As Cold Truth said above though, it's probably not the main reason I didn't care about his character-- I probably just misidentified the main reason. It may be more simple: a character not very developed in comparison to the other character which made his scenes fade from memory. The plot itself is weak next to simply watching Lisbeth's character.

i couldn't really tell whether or not the movie was fleshing out the characters properly because i had so much info about them already. the book does a pretty good job with character development.

discussing the american version after with the folks i saw it with

we all agreed his character wasnt making much sense
told you one of the fam was a killer
you got shot at
but you keep coming back to the island
really?

even martin mentioned how silly he was for even coming back in the house
his "politeness"

we chalked it up to silly white people characters in movies
its what makes thrillers go round
lol

but i did say his sillyness sets it up for pt 2 & 3
cause his silly helps her out

i dont think martin ever wanted mikhail not to find out. his purpose was not to get away with his murders, but to motivate mikhail to find harriet's killer...

at least thats why i assumed he a. missed the mark when he shot mikhail, and b. left the cat on the doorstep.

none of the family thought he'd figure Harriet out. He wasn't the first to try.
Martin just knew he was getting too close to finding the truth out about the murders, not Harriet.

The "taunting psychopath" explanation I *guess* works, even if it's way too familiar and "Criminal Minds" for my tastes. Far too many films hang their hat on "well, he's insane" as an excuse for a lack of development. "His dad was psycho, so of course he is psycho" doesn't really work for me. There are distinct differences between the dad's reported behavior and Martin's behavior-- why did those develop? Why did the son get so interested in the dad's behavior? Why were their feelings on Harriet different?

The "scaring away from the murders" explanation doesn't for me, because he could have so easily said, "Look, the entire family wants you out of there. My hands are tied. I'm sorry. Goodbye." He was the one guy outside of Henrik encouraging him to stay. The scare tactic makes no sense other than being an arbitrary genre inclusion when combined with Martin's encouragement for him to stay and then his desire in the basement to find out where Harriet actually was. You can't scare the guy close to the answer away and still hope to discover the answer. Furthermore, since Martin must have known somehow that Harriet's disappearance had to do with him, it seems bizarre that he'd want to know the truth about Harriet... unless part of him wanted to toy with the idea of being discovered. Which goes back to my first paragraph.

Maybe I'll see it again and see if I connect with it more. But normally Fincher's cold aesthetic, especially in his last few films, works for me, Reznor's music works for me, most of these actors usually work for me-- my gut reaction was that the script/story failed to get me invested.

Again, to reiterate, perhaps my total unfamiliarity with the books and characters is playing a part here, since I can solely go off of what's on the screen. Perhaps the filmmakers/screenwriter assumed most of the audience would fill in the blanks with what happens in the book (the Harry Potter filmmakers were guilty of this from time to time).

unfortunately once you get past the thriller aspect you're right it falls apart a bit

but then i didn't read the bok and maybe the characters are explained a bit more in the book

it wasn't as simple as that; actually, it is, but you're sort of glossing over it. he was on the receiving end of his fathers abuse, at least sexually. he then took to abusing his sister when his father was taken out of the situation.

saying that isn't enough of an explanation for his own sadistic tendencies is sort of ignoring the practical, real life implications there. these sorts of predators were often abuse victims as children, and many times the second iteration of the cycle is on a more sadistic scale than the first. it's not a hard and fast rule but a general commonality. it's absolutely a sufficient explanation, sufficient in real life often enough, so i'm having a hard time understanding why it's insufficient in a movie.

this is direct relation to him allowing mikailto investigate

he even mentioned how different he is from his father

how if father was a sloppy drunk

maybe martin got sloppy in his old age
maybe he was just over confident after decades of not being discovered
but frank is right the film doesn't explain why he didn't work harder to stop lisbeth and mikail until way too late
yes he was taunting them which is sloppy which he claimed not to be

she didn't have nearly the combination of vulnerability/strength that rapace brought to the role.

if you don't like the story, then you don't like it, it's not a detective movie. it's not a jane bond movie, and it's a very oddly paced thriller, owing to its swedish origins. if you do like the story, I think it's a better watch than the original because you don't have to wait two hours for anything to happen.

i think mara did have strength and vulnerability as lisbeth...

i just felt that HOW she was written in Zallian's script...it was clear the screenplay was focused on pushing the thriller aspects of it forward at the expense of character...

so you weren't getting the character development. which is unfortunate...

rapace is brilliant as salander and no matter WHO ended up with this role, they would pale in comparison to her.

that said, i wasn't and didn't want anyone to even attempt to mimic rapace that would have been a fail move.

i don't think mara tried that at all, but did try to approach the role in a way that worked for her.

and i think she did succeed...to a point. but, she's not rapace. NO ONE will ever be rapace.

I saw it Christmas Eve and left thinking "that was good but I don't like it better than the Swedish version." I felt like this one just kept moving without making me really care about what was going on in the murder mystery. I don't like the way they handled the sexual relationship between Lizbeth and the reporter either. It was better when she got her rocks off and bounced. Good try though, they stayed true to the grit of the film, but they didn't match the passion of the murders to make you wonder what was going on.

the shit moved SOOO fast

i liked that they didnt include the relationship between Mikel and Cecilia. that shit was just weird.

but they kinda skimmed what was going on between him and Erika which made the ending seem kind of sudden

i guess it was a lot of material to get in there and it was done better than the Swedish version imo.

i enjoyed the book much more and i fear that it colored my opinion of the movie having finished it a few days prior. the book was much to fresh in my mind

Fair warning: I haven't read the book (well, I started it...got maybe 50 pages in, and then got busy) or seen the original film(s).

But fucking Fincher.

That shit was good. Rooney Mara was incredible. Even if the killer was obvious, the Harriet stuff wasn't, and how they put it all together was dope. AMAZING score. The last act felt a bit rushed, but still - all around a good ass movie.

Se7en + Zodiac + Dexter = this movie.

Fincher is the man as usual.

I mean, I read like the first 50 pages or so to the book, and all the Wennerstrom stuff was in there (I didn't even get to the part where Mikael goes to the island for the first time), and in LOTS of detail. So when I saw how that stuff was crammed into the first 5-10 mins of the film, I was a little worried.

When it came to the last act, yeah it was rushed. But still I thought it didn't need the pacing of the first 2 hours. Not sure WHY. I mean, you sort of get wrapped up in the "Oh shit she's draining the accounts, now what?" of it all, forgetting that Mikael has this girlfriend (at least, I kinda did for whatever reason), all this doing stuff without thinking - and then, it all crumbles in one moment.

Credits.

Knowing NOTHING about the next installment, I'd have to think that sets it up perfectly.

Then again, this shit made $13 mil it's first week. Who knows if there WILL be a second installment.

(and they's about to get another 6 bucks matinee from me too! LOL!)

AND...Steven Zallian is hard at work adapting the second book right now and if i'm not mistaken should have a draft ready to be developed at some point next year.

So, I am assuming that once Sony got on board with this series, they intend to make all the books into movies...and keep the hard R ratings (because real talk, these books are ADULT BOOKS and should be made into ADULT films...no PG-13 at all)

And, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will most DEFINTELY make its money overseas since the books were received well internationally than they were in the states (i mean, hasn't the series been translated into like 10+ languages or something like that?)

I just hope Sony will fall BACK enough so that David can come back because i really don't see ANYONE ELSE directing these movies. I don't.

I'm pretty much betting Rooney may very well slip in for an oscar nomination for Best Actress for the Oscars...but she's NOT Noomi Rapace.

Rapace brought a SERIOUS amount of fire and strength to the role. I liked her Lisbeth because she came off way stronger and powerful than in the US version.

Though, I know Fincher wanted lisbeth for this movie to be more waifish, small, and a lot less noticeable (aka someone you wouldn't notice or acknowledge in a crowded room type deal..)

but yea, Rooney didn't have a shot which is unfortunate because her performance was good. I'm with Frank Longo, when she wasn't on the screen, i wasn't even caring. But, when she was, I cared.

And yes, NIN's was all OVER the place! yay for Trent!

agreed...like, i didn't want Mara to mimic Rapace at all...i wanted her to put her stamp on it and she did very well.

BUT, i don't know if it was Mara or if it was Fincher (i'm going with Fincher) but the choice to make her less powerful and kinda weak (i.e. playing up the her being emotionally damaged and not really speaking, etc.) was the wrong choice.

had Mara imbued (sp?) her Lisbeth with more strength, power and genuine feral ferociousness, i think we all as viewers would have GOTTEN the Lisbeth Salander we wanted....and i think folks main gripe with this movie is that we didn't get that. well, not all the way.

though i do have to wonder...fincher seems to have a weird relationship with women characters in his films...they aren't weak, but they aren't strong either. Odd...

Mara put herself out there and was convincing to me. I wasn't invested in Craig's character or his mumbling for two hours, although the secondary cast (Plummer, Skarsgard, Richardson) was very well-acted. the dark comedy was perfectly timed. and like all Fincher films, it's a great looking and sounding movie.

still, there was something hollow about it all. the first and last 25 minutes were laborious to watch -- too obtuse to start and too crammed to finish. at times, the amount of quick cuts was distracting. and while there are some engaging, great scenes, it's a scattered movie that feels flat.

a damn shame, because that 90-second trailer was one of the best I've seen in years.

Fincher's visual control and discipline is amazing, but narratively this film fell flat.

-It's really easy to guess the bad guy.

-Daniel Craig's actions make no sense. He's the dumb girl in the horror flick. The gender twist is nice, I guess, but it doesn't make him any less dumb.

-Evil dude's actions make no sense--even for a crazy person he has to serve something of a logical narrative function. The amount of exposition he spews in the basement is Bond villain-worthy.

-Mara's too much of a genius. It's not interesting if you know a character can do anything. "Hack into a major corporation with mob ties? Sure. Embezzle 2 billion euros? I got that."

-Why does no one in this movie call the cops? Do they even tell the police after Evil Martin meets his fiery end? Old Christopher Plummer rolls in and asks "what have you got?" like he hasn't been informed that his nephew's been mutilating young women for fifty years. Who cleans up the rape room?

Seriously, is it implied that Daniel Craig doesn't bother to tell anyone about the murders?

And if he does, why the weird consequence-less environment the rest of the movie exists in. How does this thing not become a huge media event, much bigger than some libel lawsuit? And yet Anita is totally unaware of anything when Craig visits here in London.

Do you really need to see a scene where Mikael runs to the cops and tells them that Martin has been murdered, and plus he has murdered other girls?

No, seriously, really?

The scene where he tells Harriet about Martin's death is enough. That's the only person who really needs to know about it.

Mikael was sent there to find out what happened to Harriet. Why do we need to see Chris Plummer learning that Martin is dead if it turns out Martin had nothing to do with Harriet's disappearance or possible death?

And even still, can we just assume that this conversation, if it had to happen, happened off-screen, maybe between Chris Plummer and Harriet?

This minor detail, the spreading of the news of Martin's death, and the lack of it being a "global media event," is largely irrelevant to this story.

I don't need that scene. I need some acknowledgment that that shit didn't happen in a vacuum. The rest of the movie--which is substantial--acts as if this completely insane stuff didn't even occur.

>Mikael was sent there to find out what happened to Harriet.
>Why do we need to see Chris Plummer learning that Martin is
>dead if it turns out Martin had nothing to do with Harriet's
>disappearance or possible death?

Again, I don't need to see that scene. But the implication that the revelation simply didn't occur is just strange. As if it's just this minor thing that happened that nobody cares about. Dude was killing hundreds of young girls, and he was the CEO of a major corporation that owned Craig's newspaper, and he was the sworn enemy of the mobbed up corporate guy.

>This minor detail, the spreading of the news of Martin's
>death, and the lack of it being a "global media event," is
>largely irrelevant to this story.

Irrelevant if the last 25 minutes of the movie weren't built around media coverage of shit directly related to Craig as well as Martin's company.

If the movie ends with Martin dying in that fire, none of this is an issue. That narrative information is not inherently necessary. But the fact that it seems as if no one in the world is aware of it except for Craig and Mara is very odd. Lose the elongated epilogue and it's not an issue.

Unless Martin was tied directly to Wennerstrom's company, then any talk about Martin and the media is irrelevant, not to mention inaccurate, because 99% of that media stuff in that section of the film (the last 25 minutes that you referenced) was about Wennerstrom's company and Wennerstrom himself...

The only time the Vangers were dealt with directly in the media was when it was announced that they took over Millennium, and we saw the press interview with Henrik and Martin, which happened in the first hour or so of the movie.

Martin's relevance to the story ends the moment we find out Harriet's true identity and more about her killing their father.

I just think the way dude phrased his critique was funny.

I do think that, outside of Lisbeth, I don't really recognize real human behavior in these characters. To me, Mikael is kind of a cold cypher. Martin is a one-note loony. Henrik is fine, but outside of delivering exposition, we don't see him again until the very end, and while it's well-acted, I didn't get to know Henrik enough to feel the moment between him and Harriet. We don't REALLY know Lisbeth either, but Mara's performance had enough warmth to draw me in to care about the mysteries her character holds and want to see more of her. I wish the other characters had that.

It's just a cold movie, which can be my bag if the humans are behaving in ways that I recognize and/or I feel the pulse of a human heart beneath the coldness. I felt it in Zodiac, The Social Network, and the scenes with Lisbeth in this film. I didn't really feel it any time she was off the screen.

You guys finding it impossible to believe/understand character motivations in this is really questionable since most of is spelled out for you in the film. And yet in the Tinker Tailor post praise is being giving about the ambiguous relationship between Firth and Strong.

It's the presentation of the gift of the violence.

Plus, I think Fincher has a very complex relationship with violence on the screen anyway, since he likes to sort of fetishize it, but that's a whole other post.

Lot of style but since the main actress/protagonist was weakened a lot if impact was lost and the stylistic aspect lost it's appeal pretty quickly since you now had to focus on the other characters whose two motives motives made very little sense

from her everything else pretty much sucked. i will say that if you haven't read the books and are coming into it with a clean slate those movies skate by on the strength of the story but they don't do the books justice...Fincher's film is a much better adaptation.

It ran a little long imo but overall it was pretty good. I don't remember Lisbeth being so funny in the original version.

Fincher did the book justice even though there was still a ton to cram in. i'm actually curious to know if he'll release a director's cut to flesh out a few scenes here and there because you could tell he had to rush a few things at the end.

good movie and i hope he returns for the sequel.

222. "Why Daniel Craig Is The Real 'Girl" in Dragon Tattoo (swipe)"
In response to Reply # 0
Wed Jan-04-12 11:35 AM by SankofaII

http://www.thewrap.com/movies/article/why-daniel-craig-not-rooney-mara-real-girl-dragon-tattoo-34047?page=0,0

account of why Daniel Craig really is "the girl" in this thriller and why he's quite, imho, very submissive and the whole nine (the part towards the end where he's in Martin's house, "looking for clues" was so classic "big breasted blonde girl investigating noises in the house ewhen she should be RUNNING out the front door" horror/thriller cliche I found myself laughing that entire sequence...

Why Daniel Craig, Not Rooney Mara, Is the Real 'Girl' in 'Dragon Tattoo'

By Brent Lang

What happened to 007?

In “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” the swaggering, lady-killing Daniel Craig is practically a damsel in distress.

As investigative reporter Mikael Blomkvist, Craig leaves the gun-slinging and bare-knuckle beating to his sleuthing partner, Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara).

In a pivotal scene, it is Craig who is tied up by a serial killer. The film implies that he would join a long list of victims were it not for a golf club wielded by Salander. Throughout the ordeal, he barely puts up a fight.

Also read: 'Dragon Tattoo' Isn't Slaying the Box Office -- But Its Sequel Is Moving Forward

It’s left to Salander to ask as the villain escapes from his torture chamber, “May I kill him?”

Over the course of the nearly three-hour mystery, Salander will also beat up a hapless mugger and exact gruesome revenge on a rapist.

In contrast, Craig’s Blomkvist is shot at, nearly vomits at the sight of a mutilated pet, and never lifts anything more dangerous than a pen -- which in David Fincher’s adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s crime novel is a lot less mighty than the sword or even Salander’s cursor.

In a refreshing change of pace, Craig's female cohort is physically and mentally superior. Too often, it seems, mainstream movies force actresses to twiddle their thumbs until their male costars can save or seduce them.

Not this time.

As David Denby notes in his New Yorker review of the film, “In this movie, is modest, quiet, even rather recessive. It’s Mara’s shot at stardom, and he lets her have it.”

It’s as if he’s playing, in sexist movie terms, "the girl." The frequently shirtless Craig almost seems to be doing penance for all of his chasing after women as James Bond. This time, the British actor allows himself to be the object of desire.

In a twist that would be unimaginable for say, Sean Connery, Craig lets Mara drive the love train when it comes to their between-the-sheets encounters.

It’s she who seduces him, while he raises a few mild objections about his age and the impact a hook up might have on their working relationship.

That differs from Larsson’s portrayal of Blomkvist. In the book, the journalist is much more sexually promiscuous. Although the movie retains Blomkvist's affair with his editor Erika Berger (Robin Wright), it jettisons his other sexual liaisons.

That was a deliberate choice, screenwriter Steven Zaillian said in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“I'm a fan of the book -- I like it very much -- but when I was reading it at a certain point I thought, am I reading 'Shampoo?'” Zaillian told the magazine. “Is this Warren Beatty or is this Mikael Blomkvist? I didn't drop those things in order to make him more sympathetic.

It was really just that they were unnecessary to the story."

Carnal relations aside, Craig does piece together some important clues early in the mystery, but his investigation is more or less at a dead-end until he enlists the computer hacking, motorcycle straddling Salander. In short order, Salander is able to link a series of apparently disconnected murders with a few clicks of the cursor and a couple of visits to Swedish police stations.

In one scene, a kindly police officer asks Salander if she’s had anything to eat before she looks at photos of a savage murder scene. He’s concerned, he says, that she might be sick.

As Mara’s butt-kicking Salander demonstrates throughout the Nordic thriller, there’s no reason to worry.

Craig’s Blomkvist, on the other hand, better look at those pictures on an empty stomach.

she seduces him in the book too. it pretty much plays out just like it does in the film. they're right about one thing though, he was baggin 'em left and right in the books but that was toned down a bit for the film. i dont blame them for that though.

i agree...

i mean, in the books it was a bit SHAMPOO-ish....

but i'm glad screenwriter Steve Zallian cut all that out and focused on the MAIN relationships in Blomkvist's list: Erika Berger and Lisbeth Salander.

imho, those to relationships were the strongest ones in the books...

save for his relationship with his daughter (though brief in the movie) and his sister Annika (i can't wait for the other two movies...Embeth Davidtz as Annika Blomkvist--casting perfection)...

the two relationships i named above were the only important ones in the story to me...

I read the book, so everything was pretty clear to me. And while it wasn't as exciting as most thrillers, it was more entertaining than I thought it would be. The book was very slow and the pacing was good for the most part. The rape scene was very painful to watch but necessary.

I started to watch the Swedish version, but I couldn't finish it. It was late when I tried to watch and I got tired of reading the subtitles lol it also seemed pretty "dry" and normally don't mind foreign language films but the Swedish language kinda turned me off. I'll give it another try for comparisons sake.

I haven't read the books but I've seen the Swedish trilogy quite a few times and enjoyed them.

The opening credits had some incredible visuals that immediately focused my attention. Unfortunately this movie lacked a lot of the thriller/suspense that is very well executed in the original. In the Swedish film, there is a better back and forth, a sort of cat and mouse game between Lisbeth and Blomkvist. And therefore the intimacy they share is wonderfully built up. Here, it seemed kind of forced.
I also didn't much care for the ending - felt tacked on at the end and not well connected to the meat of the film.
And - let's talk about the dragon tattoo. The tattoo in this version is much more tame than in the Swedish version where it nearly covers her entire back. Additionally, in some of her nude scenes in the Swedish version, when she moves her body the dragon appears to move too. I was waiting for a cool Fincher shot of her tattoo but didn't get it.
Anyways, this may be that type of film that gets better every time you see it. But for now, I think the Swedish film has an edge up on this version.

like the dude that made Ichi the Killer. It was obviously someone that just has no prob whatsover looking at shit like this.

So I put it back on and saw her... rape him in return. I mean it was better but like I'm thinking perhaps it was a young boy that was molested by a woman and then decided he'd grow up and rape her in return. IT'S STILL FN SICK!

I'll check out the rest when I get a free 100 minutes but I'm not running.

yeah i think i'm feeling the American version more
i hope they come out with the extended edition on the blu ray

Rooney just LOOKS right. i wish she spoke swedish.
Lisbeth is pale, skinny, and like 90lbs
Noomi looks like she fucking kickboxes

i also retract my earlier statement about the tattoo. when they reveal it in the Swedish version, its across her back and i then remembered that the tattoo is just a small one on her left shoulder.
